Vikings News: Not much to report. Training camp should be interesting, and preseason games could be more important. I expect Darnold to be starting for at least half of this season
NFL News: FTP
Other News: Timberwolves suck. Thankfully it will be over in 4 games, and we can look forward to preseason football instead. I am angry with myself for watching part of these last two games.
Media Selection: for Memorial Day Weekend
Down goes the Twinkies streak, 6-2.

Sunday Salutations Super-Skolsters!
Poured the wife into bed around 11 last night – one too many Manhattans – this was after she serenaded me with a rousing car-rendition of Salt N Peppa’s ‘Shoop’ on the way home. How’d I get so lucky?
Today’s project is going through my card inventory and ready a batch for grading. I’ve collected baseball and football cards for years – started buying individual packs as a kid and eventually got into buying year sets and graded cards. I’d attend shows, set up a booth and buy, barter and trade for cards. In my late teens it got insanely expensive as the per pack price skyrocketed and my interest waned considerably.
Enter the pandemic – lots of free time and stuck at home – so I started sorting my old cards. Hit paydirt when I found two large boxes (that I’d forgotten about) of 1960’s-1970’s baseball & football cards – my dad’s and his brother’s cards. Bought a few unopened pack boxes online (Pro Set 1989-1991 and 1987 Topps and one Topps ‘Mystery Box’ that had a hodgepodge of baseball, football, basketball and NHL cards) and got together a batch to send to PSA (the grading service I use) cost me $3 per card, minimum of 100 cards – so I searched and found 100 cards I wanted graded and sent them away. Most came back with PSA grades of 8/9 (not worth much) but a few of them came back Gem Mint 10 – the highest grade available – one of those cards was the infamous 1989 Fleer Billy Ripken ‘Fuckface’ card (I have 2) sold one for $400. I also scored an Adrian Peterson Gem Mint 10 rookie card (that one now sits in my office at work)
I’ve not gotten wealthy off of this – basically broke even considering the price for grading cards has also jumped since 2020. I have a few cards I have saved for a rainy day – A Derek Jeter Gem Mint 10 Rookie card (bought it for $1600, turned down 6k for it last year, currently priced on EBay @ 25k – which I don’t believe, but I bet it’s worth over 10) and an autographed 1967 Topps Rod Carew Rookie card (with a 9 grade) that I keep in my gun safe.
TL:DR
I’m a nerd.

‘TL:DR’
Will have to start calling you ‘MT Jr’.
TY for sharing.
I’ll take it – any group with the good doctor is good company in my book.
Agreed,
I was putting you two on a pedestal to be admired.
Inflation I guess. As a kid use to. buy a pack of five with bubble gum for a nickel. One time traded Bob Gibson (plus a buck) for Mickey Mantle. I didn’t like the Cards as a Cub fan.
Have no idea what happened to those cards. Guess should have paid closer attention.
The Topps cards I bought as a kid also came with bubble gum – $.50 per pack or 3 for a buck at the SportsCenter, local sporting goods store. The same place I was first in line to get the autograph of Broderick ‘Sandman’ Thomas (NU All American LB and Mike Singletary’s nephew)
All of the unopened Topps pack-boxes that I bought online in 2020 also had gum still in them – which damaged the majority of cards that the gum rested on – one notable one was a Bo Jackson rookie card – first card in the pack and one I had been searching for – completely defaced. Fortunately I found 3 more, one of which received a PSA Perfect 10 grade.
For you baseball fans.
Centerfielder tagging the runner out at home.
Spend a lot of time on a baseball field and have never seen anything like that in my life.
Same. I played a lot into my 20’s, and softball up to around 50, and I haven’t seen a play like this before.
Smart aggressive base running trumped by smart aggressive defense by the centerfielder. Fun.
Good morning all. Thought maybe someone would be up early, but maybe a good day to sleep in. Carwash day here. FTP and SKOL on this Memorial Day weekend!
A neat line from Red Skelton – “All men make mistakes, married men just hear about it sooner,”
“married men just hear about it sooner,”
And for far, far longer.
Bette Nash, world’s longest-serving flight attendant, dies at 88
Nash began her career in Washington, D.C., in 1957 with Eastern Airlines, which later became American Airlines. Despite being able to choose any route in the world, Nash primarily worked the DC-NY-Boston Shuttle so she could be home every night to care for her son who has Down syndrome.
In 2022, she was honored with the Guinness World Record title for longest-serving flight attendant.
Nice round from Scheffler, he ain’t out.
Expect the leader to fold like a lawn chair tomorrow.
He’s the best in the world. He and Trump are my heroes – let’s keep them out of jail.
I guess sniffer looked stupid again in front of West Point. Keep talking joe, i like it.
Joe is embarrassingly and dangerously, bad.
It appears old Joe didn’t want to go to Annapolis but turned it down because Staubach was there. What pure ass bullshit.

930 days of build back better?
Nothing is built,
Nothing is back,
Nothing is better.
Tell that to the 81 million people who supposedly voted for him.
Sure he’ll get a 100 mil easy this year.
Gillis, cop who arrested Scheffler has a interesting past. Looks like a bit of a loser.
Sit down, take a look at yourself
Don’t you want to be somebody
Someday somebody’s gonna see inside
You have to face up, you can’t run and hide
Have you heard about the lonesome loser

Top 5 are all in the NFC interestingly enough. And 8 of the top 10.
This is interesting but I have no idea how to interpret the data.
And, I’m obviously slow today, even more slow than usual.
Yeah, my point was, we hear all the time that “all the good QB’s are in the AFC”. I was trying to show some data that might have people rethink a little.
Professional golfer dies at age 30.
Professional golfer Grayson Murray, who won the Sony Open earlier this year in Hawaii, has died, the PGA Tour announced on Saturday.
Murray, 30, withdrew from the Charles Schwab Challenge on Friday citing an illness.
“We were devastated to learn — and are heartbroken to share — that PGA TOUR player Grayson Murray passed away this morning. I am at a loss for words,” PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan said in a statement. “The PGA TOUR is a family, and when you lose a member of your family, you are never the same. We mourn Grayson and pray for comfort for his loved ones.”
WOW – sad, just 30 years old.
Guess he battled alcohol and depression. Although sober for about a year. life is short as is. 30?!
For Eggslusher
Thanks? Again, I’d vote for Trump over Byedumb anytime… This in NYC?
Read this:
From 2011 to 2023, 34 of 41 first-round quarterbacks (83%) took over as the starter prior to Week 10. Twenty (49%) started in Week 1 — and that list includes all three QBs selected in the 2023 first round (Bryce Young, C.J. Stroud and Anthony Richardson). Of the 18 QBs picked in the top three, 13 started in Week 1 and three others took over by Week 5, leaving Jared Goff (Week 11) and Trey Lance (Jimmy Garoppolo’s backup) as the exceptions.
There have been 24 quarterbacks who appeared in at least 14 games as a rookie since 2011, and that group averaged 3,433 passing yards and 18.4 touchdown passes as rookies.
That is a bit of a ‘wall of numbers’ to me. What does it mean?
Thank you for putting it into works better than I could.
*That rookie QB’s are a crapshoot and often underwhelming statistically earlier in their careers.
Except this guy….
This guy hits the ground running: 4800 yds, 44 TD’s, 6 int – completing 78% of passes while adding another 500 yds and 11 scores on the ground.
ROY, MVP, OPOY
then we win this:
and then all of us will do this:

This post made my day.
Thanks Mjolnir!
Hey JR, it means you have about a 50/50 chance of getting an average QB in the first round.
Aaron Rodgers is 40 years old and coming off an Achilles tear, but there’s a lot of positive news coming out of the Jets organization. Word is he’s practicing with no limitations. Will he be one of those guys contending for “comeback player of the year”?
If he doesn’t get hurt again it’s guaranteed
Maybe even MVP.
As much as I dislike him personally, I hope so – it’ll mean good things for my dynasty squad.
I’ve won 3 of the last 4 titles thanks to an inaugural draft that I absolutely nailed. Was 25 rounds (we cut back to 15 keepers at the end of the year) and in that draft I landed:
Jonathon Taylor
Austin Ekeler
JJ
CeeDee Lamb
Josh Allen
JK Dobbins
Justin Herbert
Gus Edwards
DK Metcalf
Terry McLaurin
Darren Waller
I also drafted Rodgers and Cousins late.
After that draft I won 3 straight titles and posted a 64-8 record (including median scores)
You can trade draft picks up to 3 years in advance in this league (Sleeper for the win) so I’ve made several moves:
First rookie draft I drafted Justin Fields – traded him for Davante Adams and a future 2nd.
Traded that 2nd rounder along with JK Dobbins and Justin Herbert for CMC and Stefon Diggs.
Traded CMC away before last year for 2 1st’s in this year’s draft including 1.3 and 1.8 – then traded 1.8 and Waller for Hock and 2 early 2nd rounders this year (2.2 & 2.4)
Traded Josh Allen last week for 2 1sts (1.2 this year, ‘25 1st) and 2 2nd’s in ‘25
Traded Jonathan Taylor for a 1st & 2nd after year 2
Traded CeeDee Lamb for a 1st and 3rd after year 1
Traded 2 1sts and 2 2nds for Derrick Henry in year 2.
Traded a 1st and a 2nd for Travis Kelce in year 3.
My Current Roster (2QB SuperFlex)
QB1: Rodgers
RB1: Devon Achane
RB2: Gus Edwards
WR1: Justin Jefferson
WR2: Davante Adams
WR3: Puka Nacua
TE1: Travis Kelce
Flex: Jameson Williams
QB2: Kirko Chainz
Bench:
Brock Purdy
Austin Ekeler
Brian Robinson Jr
Hock
Stefon Diggs
Zach Charbonnet
Quentin Johnston
Rookie drafts are 10 rounds long with 10 picks per round. So far this year’s draft capital looks like this:
1.2
1.3
2.2
2.4
2.5
2.9
3.4
3.6
4.8
5.8
7.8
9.8
10.8
We’ve added 2 IDP (Individual Defensive Player) spots for a total of 3 IDP’s on the roster (DL/LB/DB)
I also have an offer on the table for Justin Jefferson for future picks – the deal would include 1st rounders in ‘25, ‘26 and ‘27 as well as 2nd rounder this year (2.3) and next – I’ll likely take this deal contingent upon my trade partner taking my picks in rounds 5-10 this year as I don’t want them – I’ll have 10 of the first 38 picks this year in a loaded draft.
I have every intention of taking JJ McCarthy @ 1.2 and making him the first QB off the board – I’ll take a rash of shit for this and when that happens I’ll point to the 5 championship rings in front of me (got them ordered last week)
TL;DR
I’m a fantasy football champion and legendary horse trader and KAM could learn a thing or two from me.
Expecting his call any moment now….
‘I’m a fantasy football champion and legendary horse trader and KAM could learn a thing or two from me.’
You forgot to add ‘Modest’.
#grin
Not once have I ever ‘gavotted’ ….
Great tune though. I’ve heard it’s about Warren Beatty or Mick Jagger. Or both.
Carly Simon rec.
That’s the impression that I get after reading your slightly tl;dr post, mate 😄
I have no clue about FF, but as a fellow connoisseur of fine herbs I am wishing you good luck for the season and a happy weekend!
What happened to my post?
That was odd. I came in and my Memorial Day post was gone. I left and came back and now it is here again. Weird.
Odd, what happened, but great post.
Maybe an all time great media selection today.
Red Skelton was a great artist and a great man.
He ended every one of his shows with – “God Bless.”
When I went to school we said the pledge first thing every morning, AND it had UNDER GOD.
Things don’t always change for the better.
I also said the PoA in grade school. On Fridays during football season we’d also sing ‘There Is No Place Like Nebraska’:
”There is no place like Nebraska,
Dear old Nebraska U.
Where the girls are the fairest,
The boys are the squarest,
Of any old school that I knew.
There is no place like Nebraska,
Where they’re all true blue.
We’ll all stick together,
In all kinds of weather,
For dear old Nebraska U….”
I’m also familiar with Red Skelton but seeing him up top reminds me of another Skelton – Skeeter – Charles Allen Skelton. Former Marine and Texas Lawman that wrote for Shooting Times magazine. His book, ‘Good Friends, Good Guns, Good Whiskey’ is my father’s all time favorite and he’d keep a copy in his travel bag when on the road.
I remember seeing that a LONG time ago. It rings true with me. Not sure these days, how true it rings with others anymore.
