Twinkies bullpen gives up 7 runs today vs Colorado.
They still win 17-9 despite only two HRs.

Had an interesting conversation yesterday with a couple of Plentywood (MT) residents. I repeated my oft said comment that I see a LOT of cancer in the Sheridan county region, more than I would reasonably expect, although I don’t have epidemiologic data. Now, I could ascribe the increased incidence to proximity to North Dakota and Saskatchewan, but they mentioned that in their youth they were sprayed multiple times by crop dusting planes and mosquito foggers, were told when they got home to make sure and wash their hands after getting coated in spray but never bathed or showered. Makes one wonder.

Could be. I went to high school with three guys. All three of them got cancer in their mid-twenties. One died.

They figure it was because one summer they all worked at the same nursery and had to go around and rubber band plants after they had been coated with some chemical. They said they went home that night covered in white powder.

I found the conversation particularly interesting considering my recent inaugural exposure to the AI process in cows. There’s a certain peer pressure to not look like a total dweeb. As a background, if I’m spraying weeds from the 25 gallon sprayer on my side by side, I wear gloves and long sleeves but usually no mask or eye protection. If, on the other hand, I am going to get out and into the weeds or use a back pack sprayer I put on a respirator mask and goggles. In any case I strip down my clothes and leave them outside until ready to wash and hop in the shower when done.

Now, one can see that showing up at a branding or AI wearing a hazmat suit will engender great respect among the cowboys. So I contented myself by showing up for the first go round in boots, jeans, long sleeve shirt, and hat. I was assigned to sprinkle insecticide powder on the cows, the vet tech offered me a pair of vinyl gloves to wear under my leather gloves “as that stuff will soak through sweat covered leather gloves”, so I did so. After I was done I was a little freaked out that the powder gets in your face periodically if the wind shifts.

For the second go round, I made sure to bring along a surgical mask. However, I was assigned to wrangle the cows into the chute, so unnecessary.

The funny part, though, is the hormones. The first go round they were given IM GnRH and a perimenopausal female was assigned to give the injections “wear gloves, be careful”. The second time, with an injection of equineCG, same crew, the owner did the injections, “if women get exposed to this it’s really bad”.

Now, I don’t think getting a big dose of GnRH or eCG is desired in any case, but I don’t know that a single dose of it would be “really bad”. I do think getting dusted with insecticide chronically COULD be “really bad”. However, the familiarity of a product that looks like baby powder evidently leads your average cowboy to not be concerned but those weird hormones in a syringe are a bird of another feather.

Sounds like it could have been a factor. My father and three of his brothers all got cancer . Dad and one of his brothers died from it. When they were young they use to play where a toy company once was but the building got torn down. There was talk that they might have all got cancer because of the paint chemicals etc. Another reason they thought this might have played a part is because none of his sisters have ever had cancer. They didn’t play where the boys did. Does make one wonder.

I saw this theory about Joe NOT being replaced on the ticket.
After reading it, I believe Jill Biden will NOT allow Joe to be replaced.

Jill Biden is undoubtedly the iron fist that directs the cabal that runs her husband’s head and administration. Woe be unto anyone who attempts to thwart her ambition to enjoy the perks of being first lady until January 2029, even her beloved Joe and his diminishing mental capacity.

Joe Biden spent almost half of a century in Washington before he got to the White House. We know that he was an accomplished influence peddler. The number of markers he has to call in could probably fill several warehouses. His wife no doubt has a mental database of them all.

Jill Biden knows where the bodies are buried and who to lean on to get her way. The nervous desire among Democratic operatives to have a complete do-over on this ticket may very well be building to unstoppable force levels. Sooner or later, however, it will hit the immovable object that is DOCTOR Mama Jill Biden.

When I was a wee ‘un, Canadian medical school applications were typed by hand. Was a PITA obviously but probably cut down on the # of applications sent out, unless you knew a secretary who could throw down 120 wpm.

While laboring as a lab tech, I became aware of an innovation called MCAS that many American medical schools had moved towards, a centralized application that you then paid to play depending on how many places you sent applications to. IIRC I didn’t even use the system when applying because UND still used a typewritten application, and UW a Montana resident goes through the WWAMI application system. I think I used the DO school version of MCAS, I believe I applied to three places.

I’m sure it’s even more user friendly now.

It would be nice if job applications for specific fields were that way.

Hey MT, how damn long does it take for the average gouger to read an XRAY? I had my hip xrayd at noon yesterday. They said the results should appear in my patient portal today. Nothing yet.

FYI the DR thought it was likely a bad case of hip bursitis along with a sciatic issue…this sounds reasonable to me.

The ‘New and Improved’ reporting system the FJB admin uses now is so complicated that many cities/states just SWAG the info.

Their internal numbers are more accurate then what they report to the FBI. In 2021 40% of Law enforcement agencies did not report to the FBI up from 24% in 2020.

Does the reporting system even matter? They are going to post the ‘numbers’ that best serve them. We are well beyond honesty and integrity of figures.

When the NYPD is one of the agencies not reporting their crime stats to the FBI I think that is pretty significant.

It’s all manipulated. Want to make a bet – let’s pick the last unemployment number that gets posted right before the election?
And I’d bet even if inflation starts to rise, Fed won’t raise rates in the fall.

Actually, rates will likely be cut twice before the election.

So yes, it’s all manipulated.

If you like econ type of stuff, just about every GDP, Unemployment, or other report released by the Administration has had a significant downward revision the following month that is never reported.

Some econ folks actually think a recession has started.

Yes rates will get cut and probably twice whether the second is merited or not.
You’ll probably recall the unemployment rate drop just before 2012 election helping Obama (later reversed).

What’s the BS?

If you say masks are BS, I’m with you.

If you say the vaccine is worthless, I am not with you.

If you say the disease was nothing more than a mild cold, then I’m backing away gingerly.

It depends on your comparison point. If you compare current crime to say, the summer of crimes in 2021, There may be less crime.

I love Diamond X. The problem with an up and back 450 mile round trip is I don’t like to linger at a sit down place, plus I couldn’t enjoy an adult beverage before jumping back in the pickup for a 225 mile jaunt.

I’ve been trying to get a read on the Vikings line quality since the draft. Just really trying to break it down to fourths. Top 25% (1-8), second 25% (9-16), third 25% (17-24), and bottom 25% (25-32).

Right now I think the O-line will be better, and rank in the 9-16 range, and I feel the same way about the D-line.

Thoughts?

Ooffda, that’s a tough one. My initial thought was your ranking was appropriate…but our internal positions on both offensive and defensive line scare me – I will go with 13 to 16 on both sides of the ball.

‘I feel the same way about the D-line’.

I think you are high on the O-line and too pessimistic on the D-line.
D-line I think will be better with all of the additions even with the loss of Hunter (if you consider OLB a part of the D-line in a 3-4).
O-line (actually IOL) will same with last year and one injury away from counting on ‘scrubs’ stepping up.

Tough question. Think oline is OK at pass blocking but not so much at run blocking. Dline – when we can generate pressure from ‘just’ the line regularly, then they will be OK.
