Vikings & NFL News

The Vikings now have the longest playoff series/game win drought among the 4 major sports teams in the Twin Cities. The Wild finally advance past the first round for the first time in over a decade after beating Dallas 5-2 in game 6 to win the series 4-2. I watched much of this series and the best player on the ice was Quinn Hughes, what a trade by Big Dick Bill Guerin to bring him in. They will now move on to play the Avalanche. The Timberwolves beat Denver tonight 110-98 in game 6 to win the series 4-2, despite being without two starters, Divincenzo and of course their best player Anthony Edwards, as well as Ayo Dosunmu and Kyle Anderson, or Schlomo as they call him, two key bench players. I expected the Wolves to lose, but they actually rose to the occasion and overcame significant adversity to advance in the playoffs, maybe someday the Vikings will do something like that. Anyway, the Wolves move on to play the Spurs in round 2, hopefully for them Anthony Edwards is back soon because they’ll definitely need him against a very good Spurs team.

After our food discussions the last couple days, my wife is making Shepard’s pie for me this morning. Cooking everything from scratch. The house is smelling so good right now.

We are still working on the Lasagna but The Teacher wants to go out to dinner tonight when we go see the Greg Gutfeld Show here in Nampa.
So we may freeze the rest of the Lasagna or just ‘pause’ it until Sunday. No bad options there.

Yep… as we discussed the other day, Lasagna is awesome food. The Shepard’s pie is fresh out of the oven now, and is “setting”.

Cool that you’re getting to see Gutfeld tonight. Have fun!

I don’t know about easy. The layout of ingredients and spices my wife had looked pretty involved. Peeled the potatoes and boiled them, then mashed them up with milk and butter, diced up all the veggies, etc. Took her a while.

There are a few NFL teams that began their rookie mini-camp yesterday. I’ve seen some snippets online of different players already getting hyped for just running around a little. Man, the ballyhoo machine gets going early.

If we’re talking about McCarthy, it strikes me odd that a guy in his 3rd year in the NFL is still working on technique. I had a few pointers from a coach when I was a Freshman in high school, but no one ever coached me on throwing a ball again after that.

Man, BJJ is so good for you!

I miss martial arts, but I am 62 so I will stick with Yoga and Tai Chi. No more combat for me.

As for rowing, I would suggest a Concept 2. Most commonly used, fewest repair issues, and you will find them at every college that has a rowing team.

I bought an Aviron, since it has a gaming interface that made rowing a bit less boring. I have had it for over 3 years, and it still works fine, but paying $25 per month to use something I bought is stupid. I could just watch TV or something while rowing on a Concept 2.

When my Aviron finally stops working, I am buying a concept 2.

THANKS! I have dong martial arts on and off my whole life. Did a Japanese version when done with college football. It was basically a hard style old school karate stand up and then BJJ ground game. The place I live has a very old school martial arts place and that just isn’t my cup of tea lol. Kata, kata, kata, no thank you! Tae Kwon Do in my youth killed Kata for me lol. But this BJJ school just opened in January and it’s under Grand Master Joe Moreira who fought in a few of the early UFCs. His system is geared for following basic principals at all time and reducing the constant full tension struggle, pretty neat. But I noted that Concept 2, THANKS!

I remember school fundraisers and they pretty much sucked. Both my kids were in sports and music/band so had to go door to door shilling, and I hated that. I would ask family if they wanted to buy, then I would fill in the rest of the “required” items myself and if it was candy bars, kids got full sized candy bars at my house for Halloween. When it was frozen pizzas or whatever, I would buy what the kids had for a target and throw them in my freezer and my kids had pizza night every week for the rest of the year.

This long rant is because I have coworkers now asking me for money for their kids fundraiser. Not buy a candy bar, not order some shit I do not need, but just log into their kids account and donate money….

I have no issues with displays in the office lunchroom selling stuff, but now they are just demanding money like politicians.

Thankfully, the two that hit me up this week both require facebook for identity confirmation, and I dropped that years ago.

I don’t mind buying overpriced junk/junkfood from Co-workers for a dollar or two for their kids.
I can usually stand ‘donating’ to Nieces/Nephews and the like.
No way am I going to donate to a co-workers kid or some charity event that even family members advocate for since I have no knowledge of where the money is actually going.

I have steadfastly refused to donate to anything #1 if the kids themselves don’t ask, and #2 if it is some online thing.

I also had a parent(!) ask me if their 19 year old son could shadow me, I said have him come and talk to me and ask, and the parent told me they were too shy. Yeah that is gonna happen, not.

Yeah, we have the baseball/soccer/football/basketball teams all show up selling annual coupons for $20. I will buy those, even though it is usually no better deal vs the junk mailers we get every week for the same places.

That is still better than just asking for money.

Not sure if there would be any interest on here but I received my two packages of bees yesterday. I think they came from either Minnesota or North Dakota hives, the business address is Fargo. I’ve been really excited to install the packages in my hives, watched a dozen YT videos on the package install process, talked to veteran beeks in the area, read the instructions in the Idiots book a half dozen times yesterday.

Unfortunately, when I went to install the packages both queens were dead. Bummer. I felt like the typical end of a Vikings season, all sorts of hype only to have a wet fart.

They will ship me two new queens as soon as they can round up cages for them. Hopefully just a bump in the road with extremely bad luck. I bet those ladies will be very sad when they show up in the little shipping envelope, thirsty and hungry and lonesome with no attendants.

So Queens are interchangeable?
So all the workers won’t just head out looking for a different colony to join??

MT Viking
Reply to  SoCalMinnFan

Hives can queen/requeen in a variety of ways. However, with a new hive, they have no way to raise a new queen as there is no brood for them to create a queen from (by feeding an exclusive diet of royal jelly). A new queen is introduced gradually to allow them to get familiar with her pheromones. If they don’t recognize her they may kill her.

A lot of beekeepers introduce a new queen every spring. Keeps the hive vigorous as the workers try to keep up with her prodigious egg laying.

That’s funny. I tried to talk my wife into coming with me to the truck stop to pick up the bees (and take a picture of me) but she said she didn’t want to get stung. Every video I’ve seen the package bees are all inside the package (which is a screened box) and the advice is to transport them in the car with you so they don’t get wind stress or cold.

I also thought I would be the only person picking up bees. Oh no there were a dozen people there picking up as many as twenty packages. There were bees everywhere around the trailer.

My two packages had a couple of hundred bees, easy, clinging to and humming around the outside of the screens. I thought well hope those girls just keep hanging on, gave them a little spritz of water for the brief trip to the hives. Put them in the back of the Bronco, you should have heard how loud the hum was. Within seconds they were crawling all over the vehicle, all over me, I was singing please don’t sting my eyes ears or nose oh no please don’t sting …

The trailer was delayed by road construction so I picked up at 8:15 which meant it was deep dusk by the time I was installing them, which also meant I would have been blind wearing a veil. So I just went bareback with them buzzing all over the place, only got one sting under my pant leg when a girl got squeezed as I was squatting down.

This is what a package of bees look like. About 3000 (mostly workers a few drones) honeybees, a can of sugar syrup, and a newly mated queen in a cage suspended by the little metal hanger. As you can see in this pic (unlike my expectations) there are bees outside as well as inside. My wife would have FREAKED.

NFL legend Cris Carter is pulling back the curtain on the Mike Vrabel and Dianna Russini scandal. Speaking on the ‘Fully Loaded Podcast’, Carter revealed he has “inside info” via his wife’s history as an industry makeup artist—explaining that the makeup chair is where all the real NFL secrets are spilled. Carter didn’t hold back on the “unfair” fallout, questioning why Dianna Russini was forced to resign while Mike Vrabel continues to lead the Patriots: “I do know people who have talked to Dianna, and this has been a horrific situation for her. And it shouldn’t be that way, but it is because she’s a female.”

Fun series to watch. Hopefully they take the intensity into Colorado.

Watched the game, it was fun. I am sucked back into NHL fandom I guess. So much more entertaining than most other sports, including NFL football.

Love the Vikings, and the NFL games mean more since only 16 17 18 regular season games, but playoff hockey is fun to watch with much less annoying announcer talk.

Still,

Spoiler
FUCK the NHL for letting the North Stars leave.

Question as I don’t know how it happened at all… is it really the NHLs fault they left?

I think so.
The league could prevent relocation, but it is all about money.
NHL leaving made me become less of a fan of all pro sports.

Lakers left. For LA. They still have the championship banners that were won here. Eff that.

NHL, team wanted a new arena, Bloomington said no, so they moved the team. Norm Green was evil.

When Red owned the Vikings, he wanted a new stadium and threatened to move the team. Used car salesman and the worst of the worst. At the time I was fine with the team moving when he was threatening to head to LA.

I realize that all pro sports are just entertainment, and if I am not entertained, I can watch Cheers reruns or stream something I like or play video games or read a book.

I still root for home teams, but prefer football to other sports because the regular season games mean more.

Hockey is now second.

Golf is great to watch when I want a nap.

That was his first choice, when that did not happen, they touted LA as an option

I was considering getting a Season Ticket if they moved to SoCal.
Thankfully it never happened.

Right but is it the NHLs fault when all they did is not stop it vs why prompted the owner or whoever to move in the first place? IS that more of a Norm Green deal. Like you said with Red, if Red moved the Vikings I wouldn’t be saying fuck the NFL I’d be saying like still do now, FUCK RED! lol. I just didn’t know if the NHL actually played a hand in like trying to move them but they just let it happen is all it sounds like.

that’s fair.
NHL and MLB were the two sports I attended most as a kid, because I could afford my own tickets. All the NFL games I went to were because parents or grandparents had an extra ticket.

Still, I was a bigger NHL fan through school than NFL, and took it as a personal attack when the team left.

Same reasoning applies for Kirk still sucking. He did suck when I paid to see him, so therefore he sucks forever.

Back in the late 80’s, I could score tix to either the NHL Oilers (non divisional rival games) or the CFL Eskimos for $5 at Safeway. They were nosebleeds but eminently affordable.

The NHL it’s definitely more fun to watch than the NFL at this point for me. The NFL refs and sports betting clearly affecting games and calls is ruining the experience. It can’t be a coincidence that there are so many close games now and no lead is ever safe.

Baseball and modern NBA are way way lower.

It’s been fun to get into NHL games again, and fun to have a Minnesota team that is playing well.

If they are going to salvage a Cup win with the McDavid team friendly deal, they are going to need to trade away some older bodies such as Nurse, pick up an $8M goalie, and focus on defensive fundamentals. I don’t think just an offseason of rest is going to do it.

I for one am happy to have hockey off the table for May Day. Last two years they went to game 7 and game 6 of the SCF. Four Nations hockey. Olympics this year.

Over on the Oilers site I posted that they won their first cup on May 19, 1984. Some of the young ‘uns said May 19, no way. The SCF will drag on past the summer solstice, mark my words. Totally f’ing ridiculous.

I actually just looked that up earlier this morning. The SCF will run from June 3rd-21st. So yeah, the NHL really drags it out.

‘The Weekend is here!’

I thought it was Friday Morning? I have been wrong several times this week about what day it was. The struggle is real for retirees.

Friday afternoon is the start of the weekend for me. Early post, but I stand by my excitement for the weekend.

I agree with Friday Afternoon.
Except when I worked at the prison and few schedules got the traditional weekends off. We even worked a more traditional schedule in the Army except for when we didn’t of course.
