Training camp is still around 6 weeks away. I am pretty sure the team will announce a starting QB prior to the second preseason game, maybe sooner. Get the pitchforks out. Whomever is picked will be closely watched , and the other guy will be called for every time the starter messes up. Maybe the defense will improve? I am ready for football….

B-52 crashes at Edwards AFB right next to the SoCal house.
No word on the crew, normally of 5.

It looks like it had 8 onboard when it crashed, no survivors.
RIP to the heroes and prayers for their families.

Very very sad. Heroes and prayers is indeed appropriate.
Murray will start the season as the starter.
The End.
The prolific commentor at a Kirk Cousins BBQ.
Hey that prolific commenter is very kind to us by drip feeding us all his classified information to get around his Government mandated NDA’s. His word is LAW to us plebs.
Wow, she can put a lot of sausage in her mouth.
Almost like she has done something similar in the past.
I agree with you. If they start JJ, the second he makes a bad play (which he will), fans will be clamoring for Murray. If Murray starts, he’ll be given a much longer leash and there will be less risk and heat for the coaching staff for various reasons, especially after what we saw from JJ last season. Less questioning/risk, better chance the staff keeps their jobs.
Yep.
Just don’t see signing Murray and having him ride the bench.
Once he starts sucking, it’s easy to bench him.
I disagree with this take. If they signed him and paid him $20 million, i would agree with you. But they basically got him for free, so they would be foolish not to sign him
Vet with proven success to an extent and some decent completion numbers, or drafted QB who has never really shown much consistency in games…. that is the decision. It will be Murray IMO, and it seems fairly obvious.
But can you bench a $20 million dollar QB?
I don’t think so. Not easily.
Vikings have nothing to lose playing the Midget.
And they are going to start him to see if it works.
My point was that they signed him because it was a “no risk’ situation. He did not cost anything. They will not play him because they signed him. They will play him if he shows he is the better QB. I think that is what Surly and i are saying
He’s already had more success than JJ, so it’s a no brainer when he signed that he is the starter.
I don’t think there is any real competition out of the gate. Its just to push JJ.
For 1.1 million he was a bargain more than anything else.
No risk at all. Pure value signing IMO.
Yep.
And a former first overall pick with a “QB guru”
Hes starting.
Likely.
Wrenage, is Kirchner the Fulda guy?
Just got back from a 4 days in the Tetons (and Yellowstone area for a day). Just wonderful views and weather. The drive out and back wasn’t particularly enjoyable, but better than flying for us anyway, especially with all the stuff to bring. Had a close call with a couple grizzlies being about 20 ft away, but didn’t actually have to use the bear spray (glad we had it though).
The only time I want to be within 20 ft of a grizzly would be if there are very solid metal bars between him and me.
They appeared to have been adolescents, but yes, we didn’t love being in that situation.
‘adolescents’ are often more dangerous as Mom is usually nearby.
Well they certainly weren’t cubs but weren’t fully-grown adults is what I meant. Perhaps a bit beyond the age of being monitored by mom anymore.
bears win.
I remember hiking cloud peak in the late 80s, and we set up a base camp close enough so we could make the hike up and back in a short day. We were the only group that was not armed. Every other party had at least 1 guy carrying. Locals were incredulous that we would be so stupid as to hike in bear country with no way to ward them off.
Love that part of Wyoming, I skied Jackson Hole back in…2015 or 2016? And then did a family trip through Yellowstone back around 2016 as well. Beautiful.
It really is. Wanted to see it before more forest fires or something else destroys any more of our national parks. The tram ride to the top of one of the mountains was pretty cool.
The Black Keys were playing in Jackson when we were there. Had to ride a gondola to the top of a small mountain to watch the concert – looked like a pretty cool venue. Snow King Mountain I think. Thought you might appreciate it.
I absolutely would. I know they have a winter concert series there every year, they advertise for it on their socials all the time. Did you make it up to the little hut on top of the gondola that make waffles and sells beer?! I went up there and had to ski down in a small scale blizzard, was a pretty cool memory.
We did indeed! Everybody told us we needed to do it. That was the tram ride I was referring to – I get kinda motion sick but I did okay on that even though it was 30+ MPH winds (nearly 45 at the top of the mountain).
Those things are an engineering marvel btw. 1,000 HP engines and the whole mechanism is cool and well-designed (Swiss and German engineering and parts it sounds like).
Awesome! That is an absolute must. Yeah I have a feeling its always windy like that up there just because of the elevation and jet stream. It was right around those wind speeds too when I was up there, just 50 degrees colder and snowing ha.
Ironically enough they had a different ski lift legitimate break down the weekend we were there and part of our crew got stuck on it and had to be roped down off the chair after being stuck up there for hours. The part to fix it was indeed in Switzerland from what we were told, had an older gentlemen working ski patrol tell us he’d been working there for almost 40 years and this has never happened to his knowledge. Also cool memory, I have Go Pro footage of it buried somewhere.
Yeah, whole different climate up there. I was so nervous I was gonna drop my phone off the edge when taking photos due to cold hands/gloves and lose all my photos, etc.
Sucks to be stuck on one of those things, but they seem remarkably reliable. We got to see a moose and babies walking through town a few times as well (they must nest in Teton Village somewhere).
Probably. Did you check out the Elk Refuge? I spose there wouldn’t be Elk there at the moment with it being Summer and all. Moose are mean, especially with young ones around, they WILL kill you with out hesitating. Monster animals.
No Elk refuge, but we did see a herd near the Grand Canyon of Yellowstone.
I think the moose in Teton Village were well accustomed to having people around. The mother one was 10 ft away from our van, eating leaves from trees/bushes in the morning we were loading up to leave. It looked at me for a bit while eating, but didn’t seem worked up. I pulled the van away a few spots to continue loading it up though haha. The babies were running around the parking lot the prior night and one ran right by me while I was grabbing some things out of the van. The mother was watching from the road about 30 ft away. Didn’t even seem annoyed about my presence (maybe worn out from watching her kids lol).
Now I wanna try waffles and beer…
There’s a 0% chance you wont enjoy it. Get darker Boch beer, or Shiner, or a darker ale with a Buttery Waffle with some peanut butter and syrup…oooo baby
My wife got the butter and brown sugar one… I had some of hers. It was good.
Sitting by the lake in Annandale while kiddo is at baseball camp. Even driving over 800 miles away and taking vacation I can’t get away from work. Younger kiddo got to go to a football camp on Saturday with Montana State Bobcats players. It was pretty cool. Not as cool as Justin Jefferson football camp, but the Dowler brothers are right up there for my kiddo so he was pretty pumped to get to meet them and get their autographs. He was too shy to get a picture with Caden though because Caden might be his favorite football player of any right now.
Work sucks.
the football camp/baseball camp is something your kids will remember long after you’re gone. And fondly. Good stuff.
welcome to the thunderdomeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
You should see if Freezy would let you visit one of his lake houses.
in news that almost none of you, but in reality ALL of you care about….
i had my first “Whatnot” Vintage baseball card stream on Friday Night.
Mrs Freeze was like hey so you’ve been buying alot of cards lately, when are you going to sell some. So i did that on Friday night. I did really well. Made a really good amount of dollar bucks.
You didn’t have it at your lake house?
Cheap bastard.
too humid by the water, don’t want it to ruin my vintage cards
Good answer.
Not really.
Lake house money. Vintage card money. But not vintage card protector money?
amateur.
A man has to draw the line somewhere.
i’m having the in-lakehome humidor installed this week
In the meantime
Vikings QB1 “Competition”
I think this is how the QB Competition should go:
*this ‘competition’ is between KM1 & NEIN – not ruling out Wentz as a starter at some point. More on that below.
50/50 split in reps with the 1’s in camp. Each rep graded.
Highest graded guy starts preseason week 1 – both get game reps (whether it’s with the 1’s really shouldn’t matter imo – both of these guys need work in the system for different reasons). Figure each one plays about a quarter or so – maybe just a few series each. Wentz/Brosmer finish up the game with Wentz getting the ball to start the 3rd quarter and a series or two. Then Brosmer the rest of the way.
Preseason week 2 the other guy operates as the starter with both getting game reps – again, both need reps in the offense so it shouldn’t matter who they’re throwing to, just get the reps. Same thing. Ideally, each guy plays about a quarter or so. Wentz with the ball starting the 3rd. Brosmer cleanup.
Preseason week 3: Based on the previous 2 weeks and seeing how each guy operates as the starter (command of the offense, command of the locker room, actual play on the field) KOC names a starter (*cough* Murray *cough*) and that guy starts and plays a series or two and sits. Then the 2nd guy (*cough* McCarthy *cough*) plays a series or two. Then Wentz until until halftime and let Brosmer cleanup.
Wentz is not a long term option in Minny – but he might prove to be the best option this year based on a number of factors (availability of the other two guys being the biggest one) He’s a veteran, plenty of game experience and won’t need the same reps as Murray or McCarthy – kind of proved this by coming off the couch last year and playing pretty well under the circumstances.
I think this is a ‘competition’ for the QB1 job with KOC’s thumb pressed pretty heavily on the scale. It’ll be fascinating to watch.
QB1: KM1
QB2: NEIN
QB3: Wentz
Brosmer:
I’m certain most of this will be wrong.
Skol!
TLDR; check out my comment earlier. It says pretty much the same thing, without the MT style writing. JK
You did not address Wentz.
You did not address Brosmer.
You did not feature a hilarious John Wayne gif.
I’m blaming your recent recovery for these obvious errors.
Brosmer’s name should never be uttered in connection to the NFL again IMO. VERY slow processor, had plenty of time to make a play/pass on many occasions last year, just couldn’t find an open man or pull the trigger.
He played like an UDFA rookie QB. About what we expected when we thru him out there.
Will he improve? Likely, enough to make him good? Doubtful.
I mean, I wasn’t expecting much, but I don’t see a path to greatness there.
That all checks out in my head. I would be shocked if thats how the pre season games go but I firmly believe that will be the QB depth chart to start the year. All signs point to that.
So what happened to NVF? He used to be around all the time.
He headed north to clean out a storage shed. He will be back soon.
I heard he had to head up to DC to get reprimanded for sharing national secrets on a shady Vikings fan website.
The DN?
He will be back tomorrow to stir the pot.
Meanwhile, enjoy the less toxic Skoloholics comment section
Clearly you are wrong and have no understanding of how comment sections work.
Getting debriefed by Uncle Donny and Krik about the war in Iran. He will be back on holiest of no work Tuesdays and im certain he will make a twitter post about the fights at the White House last night and how Trump is the greatest human being to breath air.
i miss stu
They are all recovering from an Epic Weekend??
If I were KOC I would start Murray in game 1 of the preseason and McCarthy in game 2 of the preseason and make an evaluation then. I would not announce the starter until after both have ran the offense in a game, even if it is just preseason.
I still don’t think KM will be ready to run the offense by then, but I could be wrong.
Smart plan. I agree that both should get to play with the first team offense for a half prior to making a decision. I feel it should also be JJ first, to give Mighty Mouse more time to learn the offense.
I am ready to watch some football. On the other hand, that means things are really busy and then really cold. So…I guess I will be content in the moment…
I love Mondays!!!
Had the granddaughter all weekend, as her parents were in a friends wedding. It’s good to get back to work and take it easy.

Granddaughters are great, but they are so full of energy.
My granddaughter is only 5 months old, so no chasing her around, but she does need constant attention. Or at least she gets constant attention.
We have our Grandson, who is only 2 months old next weekend, and then the granddaughter again the following weekend.
All of our kids friends decided to get married this year, so they are very busy.
Our granddaughter is 8 and grandson is 5, so there is a lot of energy there. However, they are almost 2000 miles away, so we don’t get any sudden weekends with them unfortunately.
