Vikings Discussion & Random Thoughts
Happy Tuesday! Today is my last day working until January, so I was busy doing work things and once again slacking off here. Not much going on with the Vikings other than we are probably getting Brosmer vs Goff as a present from the Grinch.
No matter what the last two games look like, the team needs another QB on the roster, and I would be all for them drafting one each season in perpetuity. Also, Kelly needs to retire. Enough with the concussions, you need your brain.
Today is the 23rd, so all you Swifties can finally watch the end of her latest money grab series on Disney. Have fun with that.

We signed Guard Henry Byrd to a two year deal…
Merry Christmas Eve to all of you. I hope you are safe and there is joy in your home.
Exactly…
Somehow I made the FF playoffs (different league) as the 6th seed. I’ve made it to the final.
My make or break dilemma this weekend is starting Josh Allen or Sam Darnold.
Opinions?
Isn’t Allen injured?
I saw a headline somewhere, didn’t click on it.
If it is bad enough it might make your decision easier.
He tweaked an ankle, but has been heard saying he will play vs the Iggles this weekend.
It bothered him enough that he only scored me 6.9 points vs Cleveland (Darnold scored 19.5 vs the Rams).
Alright, gonna call it. Mad Max gets his first NFL victory against FTP last game. Everything falls into place where beating them, keeps them out of playoffs. A guy can dream, right?
You must start drinking earlier in the day than I do.
Todays injury report…
Vikings have ZERO pro bowl players.
😂 😆 🤣
I assume alternates will be chosen.
Alternates count the same. They are still ‘Pro Bowlers’.
Honestly, Reichard should have made it, and he’s the only one.
True
Assuming Atlanta releases Kirko, the odds are increasing that KOC gets Kirko back…..
We’re saved!!!
Ty Chandler news…
Logical with Mason and Jones banged up.
Plus his ‘window’ closes tomorrow I believe.
SoCal shared that Joe Kapp video down below…..now I have a boner, hope the wife is ready when I get home…
Joe Kapp was a ‘real man’ and great football player.
I would comment about how that interacted with you ‘love life’ but No Kink Shaming as always.
Just read a brain MRI, said “feels like an ice pick in the right eye”. How would someone know what an icepick in the right eye would feel like? Have we reached Black Mirror style virtual reality?
We had an inmate take syringe and stab himself in the eye with it.
He didn’t react much from it and we figured it was due to ‘crazy’.
But the medical types said that there were no nerves in the actual eye so maybe an ‘icepick in the eye’ would not hurt all that much.
That is definitely not true – the cornea has the highest concentration of nerves in the body, if I recall correctly. Very sensitive. Even the conjunctiva on other parts of the eye is very sensitive. Now the retina does not have any pain receptors, so the back of the eye might not hurt (once you get there).
Maybe the ‘retina’ is what they meant but they did tell us eye.
Yeah, but again – you’d have to go through the front of the eye to get there, which you would definitely feel.
Again the inmate didn’t react very much but a syringe is pretty thin. Might have made the difference.
As an eye specialist, I can say that not too many people have the unfortune of having something like that actually happen to them. I will say that this a fairly common complaint from patients though, often determined to be a phantom pain of sorts or something of unknown cause.
As someone with eyes, I can say ouch that would hurt.
We couldn’t find someone who was willing to let us test it on them.
The inmate was moved to a psych unit so he was not available for further testing.
McFragile is out this week with a hairline fracture in his hand
I predicted he would go down with a hangnail.
Not that far off if you think about it…..
I see freezey already posted this. Oops
it’s ok my friend, if there is anyone i would want to parrot me, it’s you.
The real question is what is the betting line for him being out for the rest of the season?
2 will get you 1?
He’s out for the year.
He’s already planning his New Year’s celebration
How could they possibly play him with a fracture in his (presumptively) fifth metacarpal? One toss to the turf with a 250 pound lineman on top of him and that baby will snap like a twig.
Yup, no way he comes back this year. I fractured my wrist in 3 places one time.
It’s not like a QB can play with a cast or sugar tong splint on his throwing hand.
Wait…what if he starts throwing left handed and looks like Brady (if Brady were left handed)?
Was that from a bicycle ramp incident as well?
“and that was the last time Brad tried running a jack hammer one handed…”
Behind the back was the hardest.
Fell off the top of a truck-mounted sandblaster. It’s okay, my face helped break the fall. Teeth went through my bottom lip, was trying to drink a beer on the way home and beer kept running down my chin. Pushed my tongue against my lip and it came through. Didn’t know my wrist was fractured until four days later when I was getting my stitches out.
Pussy.
So “we” decided to gift ourselves a new coffee maker for Christmas. The old one was 5 years old, and we just wanted to get something new. It came today while the wife was at the gym. I decided to set up, and give it a test run. I actually read the instruction book for setting it up, and understanding how to operate it. I did everything the manual told me to, in order. Then I turned it on to do the first of two water brews running through it, before it was finally ready to go.
The water didn’t run through at all, it sort of dribbled, and steam was blowing out everywhere. I tried a second time, and the same thing happened. My wife came home and there was water everywhere on the counter that had apparently leaked out of the reservoir. I told her we needed to send it back.
I went back to the bedroom, to watch TV and read twitter. A few minutes later she came in with this little red plastic thing in her hand. She said “this is the stopper for the reservoir they ship the coffee maker with. You didn’t take it off.”
There was absolutely NOTHING in the manual that said anything about this.
Those bastards!
Rookie mistake. You have to check every part of a new machine these days to see if there’s anything else to remove. The bright red color should have tipped you off (unless colorblind….that’s actually unfair really).
I never took the reservoir off. I filled it with a water pitcher. Never even looked at it. The manual was about 20 pages long. Nothing in it about removing that plug. Apparently it’s there to protect the seal or something during shipping. I laughed when she showed it to me. I was all set to ship it back.
What brand is it? I had a heck of time with Keurig junk for a while. Not made like they used to be.
Gevi Single Serve Coffee Maker, Compatible with Pods & Ground Coffee, 40oz Removable Water Reservoir, 5 Brew Sizes (6-14oz). It was not a big expensive brand. I don’t think all that extra money makes coffee any better. It’s just boiled water going through grounds. I like that I can use grounds though rather than soley K cups.
For sure coffee is coffee. The extra bells and whistles are what make a better coffee maker worth it.
A couple years ago, I bought the wife a top of the line air fryer/convection oven. Cost me $400. That thing has been worth every penny. Love it. Can make anything in it, and when you order food in, and the fries or something aren’t crispy or hot, that thing does the trick. Pizza, cinnamon rolls, fish sticks, etc. It does everything to perfection.
Not true. Correct temp of water affects the quality immensely. Good/fresh beans also huge.
Never noticed the correct temp thing. Do some machines go too high for temp?
Or too low
That I could see more than too high
Get a Bunn. He watered exactly 210°, perfect for coffee. You have a pot of coffee in about three minutes.
Should have left her to set it up and get it started.
Rookie mistake IMHO.
I’m big enough to accept all criticism/ridicule at this point. Grin.
The Teacher upgrades our appliances and my contribution is helping to get into place and remove the packing.
You are my new hero. I may not be the most mechanically inept person on this thread.
Laughing
Get a Bunn.
i’m SHOCKED
This kind of hairline fracture?
Is that the black Justin Herbert?
The Army/Prison never gave me an appreciation for hair.
Not to mention was never, ever my thing.
I am so shocked. Shocked I tell you! This is like when I found out about Santa Claus.
Found out what about Santa Claus?
So if he was on meth, he would be stealing catalytic converters?
That he is gay – every notice he only wants the boys to sit on his knee??
I was a little older than some…my wife asked me to help put stuff in the kids’ stockings…I was like wth?
Speaking of stocking stuffers, well let me tell you on our wedding night…
If you were stuffing a stocking on your wedding night, you were doing it wrong.
This also bring up the whole “player went into the locker room and got x-rays. X-rays were negative” … x-rays were negative per who? Trainer? Team doc? Orthopedic surgeon? Who’s operating the x-ray? Do they know how to position the extremity?
McFragile™ is out for the season, does anyone have a running total of the number of games he played in vs he should have played in (last Sunday counts as 1/2)?
Given how they handled Wentz, you can’t believe what KOC says about it.
MT’s stance of drafting QB first has a lot of merit.
I would not pin next season’s hopes that a QB who has missed a full season, and (over) half of another season will stay healthy enough to make a difference.
Sign a competent vet, roll dice on another draftee to develop.
If JJMc could stay on the field, it would be worth it to suffer through his growing pains.
A ‘competent vet’ QB is pretty much a given.
Brosmer can/is as good as a draft choice would be.
Draft some trench guys and some DB types and lets see if JJ (QB) and Brosmer stays healthy and develops.
i don’t think i’d want to spend a 1st on a qb next year, but agree we need to draft a qb next year…
i think we need to find Darrisaw’s replacement or a stud DT, because while mccfragile is injury prone, so is darrisaw
Except that next years draft his historically dog shit for QBs. So, doesn’t hold as much merit as you think.
Well McFragile™ has been a historically bad pick so we got them right where we want them.
You can find competent vet QBs at 7-11 (Zim, probably).
Been off for the year since Friday.
At my dad’s acreage in Eastern Nebraska with the Goose.
He talked me into spiking my coffee…..
‘He talked me into spiking my coffee’
Is Goose possessed?
I know this opinion won’t be popular, but I think it’s correct.
I think the team is on the right track, but had a shitty year. Injuries at key positions hurt, as did KOC’s play calling early in the year.
KOC is fine, he’s going to be a top HC. I do wish he would have altered his approach earlier in the year this year.
McC is an unknown, but has given reason for optimism with his recent play. I’m concerned about durability, but not standing on the ledge. Football is a violent sport, there are injuries, especially now with more games and fewer rest days.
KAM is an unknown, IMO. He seems to have improved every year in drafting, and if that continues, I think we stick with him.
I’d target the trenches in the draft, secondary would be……secondary on my list of priorities.
Fire away.
I am on your side.
You both make a lot of sense. If we finish close to 500 with a rookie qb who had been making progress, i consider it a good year
I like what I’ve seen out of JJMc the past few outings – if he could stay on the field he will only get better.
Agree with your take on KOC – guy is his own worst enemy. If he can adapt quicker he will be fine.
KAM does appear to be making better selections each draft. He’s been a victim of circumstance, forced to trade off our future picks to acquire players when things come up. He needs to reverse that course and start amassing a few extra picks each year.
100% draft Oline/Dline first – get some big beefy nasties. Splash FA DB acquisition or 3.
And for God’s sake, hire a ST coach that can get us starting position beyond the 30, and limit opponents to under the 30.
I am closer to this than the ‘Doomer View’ or the ‘Hype View’ that we used to have around here.
Agreed. I’m also optimistic
I’d target QB in the first round, then trenches.
Which quarterback is worth spending on a first round draft pick? I don’t see that happening, I think it would be foolish.
Dante Moore baby.
I call him stu
Here’s my fire away and while I don’t disagree, it’s different.
Koc’s first year we win 13 games with very good QB play.
Next year, QB gets hurt, we play with poorer QB play and we have losing season.
Next year, we have very good QB play and we win 14 games.
This year, poorer QB play again and we are out of playoffs with a month left in the season.
So just looking at the KOC era, we seem to rise and fall with the level of QB play.
So next year could be our year! #trends
I’m still not convinced on KOC, but we have to keep him through next year because it’ll be one of his odd year jumps for record. Dump him after next year.
McC is progressing, which is good. But he cannot stay healthy, which is very bad. QBs need to be available, especially if they need reps to get better.
KAM needs to go. His drafts are the worst. His draft trades are dumb. I think he’s in over his head.
Trenches always in the draft. Control the line of scrimmage, and you control the game. Need a solid run-stuffing IDL and also a good C. Fries gets a pass coming back from injury.
I am fine with the team standing pat with the current regime.
Team will have a last place schedule next season, and could go from worst to first like the Bears did this season.
I still say draft a QB on day 1.
Draft a center that does not have a history of concussions.
Draft a run stopping NT that can also rush the passer. Pretty sure players like that exist.
Still a ton of holes to fill on the secondary, but if you cannot control the trenches you are going nowhere.
Drafting a QB in round 1 is a waste. Get a DT, center or secondary and bring in Murray, Tua, etc.
Agreed
Murray and Tua. Ish.
I am ok with waiting until round 2 or 3. Just keep drafting QBs.
With the injuries the Vikings have, you need 4 QBs available.
I think the team is basically screwed. They are fully into the “wheel-spinning” portion of the regime. They will dink around shuffling deck chairs on the Titanic for a few meaningless seasons and then changes will finally be made.
Five years…that is all a GM/coach tandem should get. If they aren’t doing major playoff damage within that timeframe, move on. They aren’t the guys.
Usually, the Vikes are competitive once a decade. I think they may actually miss the 2020s this time around because they won’t make any changes until like 2028.
Probably.
They have a QB carrousel.
Can’t win without a good QB.
I suppose they could promote Flores to HC and see what happens. That would maybe be the quickest thing to try if they were into brevity.
I don’t know enough about GM prospects. I reckon whatever GM assistant they can find on the teams that have been drafting the best the last couple of seasons are the people to look at.
That’s probably Flores best shot a head coaching job.
I’m probably n of 1 to be glad to see Flores go. If I played a drinking game with how many times the commentary gushes over his disguised blitzes pressure packages all players at the line etc etc etc I’d have end stage cirrhosis.
“exotic”
Yeah, I am not married to Flores.
Not one playoff win with this regime.
It is probably a Wilf problem at this stage. Three playoff wins in 20 years…
One thanks to Zombie Favre.
One thanks to Keenum playing off his rocker and throwing a miracle pass.
One thanks to the law of averages.
So having the best facilities, free food and free child care for families doesn’t translate to playoff wins?
Imagine how bad they’d be without all that fancy stuff.
KOC is like what many here think of Kirk Cousins – good to very good, but not good enough to take the team to the next level. Move on from him IMO.
McCarthy is a bust at this point, so you keep him as a backup and draft or sign someone else to be the starter. Can’t rely on someone with poor play and who is hurt all the time. I didn’t want him drafted (for a couple reasons – injury wasn’t one), and I think it extremely unlikely he turns into a good or better QB.
KAM is not great – I’d cut bait. Sure, he’s had some hits on free agents, but his drafts have been some big busts in the first couple rounds, where things are needed (and easier) to be hits. Problem is, the Wilfs could hire someone worse. You just don’t know what you’re going to get there – better or worse. The QB situation can’t get much worse IMO, so you roll the dice there for sure. This is more of a gamble IMO.
I had an interaction that made me think of you NoDak.
Went to the base commissary Friday. Pulled up to the front gate to show ID and it was raining, cold and windy. Asked the SP if it was cold enough for him, he replied that the wind made it pretty chilly. I smiled and said ‘it could be worse, you could be in Minot.’ He chuckled and said ‘I have been colder I was stationed in Greenland’.
See you NoDaks it can alway be worse/colder.
Yeah, just for fun I looked up what the average January Temp was where that individual was stationed. The average was -9, by contrast Minot’s average is +9. That is a big difference.
This SoCal boy would freeze to death spending too much time in either place.
A little football curiosity.
Have read here and many other places, the ticket is to get a rookie QB (cheap), then use all the saved money to build a roster and win the SB. Sounds great.
But also hear, and believe, you aren’t going very far without “good” QB play.
There seems to be a bit of a gap between these two thoughts.
So, just wondering, if you do build this sound roster, just how good must the QB play to win the SB?
25 rated, 20, 15, or just what?
If you look at the Poop-Eating Eagles, and the Chiefs, and Bills, they all built a solid roster while the QB was on a rookie deal.
Chiefs are paying for that this season, and will have to rebuild completely.
Bills have traded away some players, but are paying Josh Allen a lot.
Teams like the Bengals just suck on defense, so there is no help for Joe Cool.
I am pretty sure the Vikings could draft the next Mahomes/Burrow/Allen and still fail.
I do like the strategy. Hurts is not really a top 10 QB in my mind, but philly won with a very good team and some cheating.
But if you look around the league, most all the good teams have very good QB’s. And the teams sort of out of it, have QB issues.
You mention the Eagles, they won a SB with Wentz/Foles and then switched to Hurts, And when they won SB Hurts was under a big contract. Reid and the Chiefs had been winning forever and Mahomes was the crowning piece.
Look at SB winners – Brady, Stafford, Mahomes, Hurts, all were making big money and at least three of these guys are really good.
But back to the theory, build the team. You still need a QB to play at “some” level to win it.
How good must the QB be?
Is there really an established criteria (that everyone can agree on and understand)?
Good enough to get the ball to his playmakers, good enough to not turn it over more than once in a while.
No. But a good example. of build a great roster and get a QB is the Niners. Yet neither Jimmy G and Purdy were good enough to get it done.
Purdy looks more and more capable each season. They are not far off from the promised land.
He is now that he’s making 55 mil a year.
Better than any QBs the Vikings have ever had on a consistent basis.
Gannon and Brad Johnson left here and won championships elsewhere.
With both of those instances, I cite better overall team and better coaching. Neither of those guys would ever be seen as top 10 QBs.
The teams that win by drafting a rookie QB and building a solid roster, need to get top 15(Average) talent out of the QB in my opinion.
In other words, with the right fit, Kirko winz and gets his trophy. I do not think that will ever happen, but it could. Just not here.
And when they won SB Hurts was under a big contract
Yes, he was getting paid, but the core of the roster was built while he was on his rookie deal. Same with the Chiefs. Roster was build while Mahomes was on his rookie deal, and they traded a few high priced players for draft picks as well.
KAM needs to take advantage of the salary situation and draft better to build a roster that can compete for years, not just one season. He also misses often on the free agent signings. Gotta give him credit for several of those as well. Some have worked out.
Kirk will never, and would never, win a SB, IMO.
I agree. Kirko will not get that championship trophy.
But when I say that, I am told he is the bestest QB ever to wear a Vikings uniform.
Still not top 5 for me.
Greatness is undeniable. You can deny facets of his game during his time here and point to it not being good enough. This fact alone should be reason. Not raw numbers or stats from a QB rating system that wasnt a thing a decade ago. Thats not something to hang a legacy or a hat on. Just a superficial banner.
Not at this point – not too many QB’s at that age do/will.
Makes sense. No matter what you do and how you do it, you need at least top 15 talent at QB to win it all. And in my opinion, that’s why niners didn’t do it with Jimmy G and Purdy.
Doug Williams had a career rating of 69.4.
Drent Dilfer had a 70.2
Jim Plunkett had a 67.5
Even Jeff Hostetler had a 80.5, all others SB winners were 85 or better.
NFL is a little different nowadays.
Yup, Terry Bradshaw would not make it todays NFL.
He was more a Tim Tebow type of QB.
the key is drafting…
if the teams misses on almost all it’s draft picks, it doesn’t matter if you have a cheap or expensive qb, the team is screwed……
KAM, you reading this?!?!?!
Don’t worry, next offseason we’re going to see just how much the Vikings are willing to pay for their QB coming off his third season.
Hmmmm… read this…
1876: John Harvey Kellogg runs a sanitarium in Battle Creek, Michigan. Devout Seventh-day Adventist with very specific ideas about sin and digestion.
Kellogg believes meat causes sexual desire, which he considers morally corrupt. His solution: indigestible plant material to scrub out the sinful meat from your intestines.
He invents corn flakes specifically to reduce libido. Not a metaphor. This was the actual stated purpose.
Problem: nobody wants to eat cardboard to become celibate. His brother Will suggests adding sugar. John refuses on moral grounds. Will does it anyway, becomes phenomenally wealthy.
By the 1920s, Kellogg needs a new angle. Sexual purity isn’t selling. So he pivots to health claims: “roughage” sweeps through your intestines like a broom, cleaning out toxins.
Medical establishment: “That’s not how digestion works.”
Kellogg: “I run a sanitarium. I’m basically a doctor.”
Here’s what fiber actually is: indigestible plant cell walls. Your body cannot break down cellulose. It passes through unchanged. It’s literally the definition of waste.
But Kellogg convinced millions that if something causes gas, bloating, and violent bowel movements, it’s “cleansing” you. Pain meant healing.
Roughage does keep you regular.
Interesting historical tidbit, makes me glad I was never into Cornflakes.
I loved Raison Brand growing up, then pivoted to Life Cereal.
Grew out of ‘flavored sugar’ cereals pretty early, one of the smarter things I have done.
If you really want to dig into this, the FDA and their beginnings are very interesting.
Follow the money.
Always.
Nothing to do with helping people. Everything the governments and corporations of the world do is about power and control, and money.
Amen
There was a dude who had a very interesting theory that Seventh Day Adventists basically f’ed up the entire food industry by getting into key positions and fudging the results to promote the whole sparse-vegetarian movement over normal food.
I should see if I can find it again.
In our fantasy football league, kiddo and I are battling in the championship again this year. I got lucky again.
DE and Ben are fighting for 3rd, Derby is playing for 5th. Everyone else is in the toilet bowl (lower bracket).
It was a really fun year, we hope to improve on it again for next year. We’ll get prizes sent out right away this year instead of waiting till next year.
Have everyone either have a keeper, or nobody does. None of this letting 1/2 the teams start with basically two first rounders.
That said, my crappy record is my own fault for drafting several Vikings.
I thought everybody knew that we had a keeper.
I knew.
It was stated to all.
People just forgot about it.
I placed my keeper a couple of weeks before the draft.
I knew we were doing keepers, then it became, “lets vote on it”, then it was too late since I did not select Aman Ra the sun god as my keeper and lost him.
so other teams had two players to my one, and my team sucked. again.
Of course, my team being terrible has way more reasons than that, since if I had two first rounders, they would both just die.
I’ll turn on the keeper selector as soon as the season ends, that way people have the entire off season to think about it.
I also want to make it so that returners get points for a kick and punt returns. I’ll run it by the group to see what they think, but it would be nice to have that, more strategy in selecting receivers.
Not a bad option there.
This is just ridiculous, that Muslims can rule us…
Oh I thank God I live in Florida! People up North have gone flippin crazy.
‘People up North have gone flippin crazy’
Not all of them.
In fact we had to go north to Idaho for sanity and get away from ‘SoCal Crazy’.
We have our butcher sacrifice our cow for us. Then we eat it.
We used to butcher our deer in the basement… but these folks want to force us to accept animal sacrifice as a norm. Nope. That shit is totally unacceptable. Go back to wherever you came from if this is what you want.
What about human sacrifice?
So they’re saying you can’t butcher your own chickens in your own backyard?
No, but they’ll let you choke your chicken
It’s been awhile now since I lived in the city but people were allowed to keep chickens (our neighbor had five). I don’t see how they could pass or enforce a bylaw prohibiting people from butchering a chicken in their own backyard. Now depending on the size of the backyard and local bylaws I could see a pig being a bit messy, but butchering a chicken is child’s play. For example, I have frequently sat out at the rollout garbage can cleaning pheasants. Is that some moral crisis in Michigan?
I have had enough.
Muslims can assimilate or GTFO.
Tired of this bullshit.
I think we all figured this…
Meh, fart noise, Pro Bowl is a joke.
It is, with the circus they’ve turned it into now. But being selected used to mean something. Meant you were one of the best in the league at your position.
It is just with all the injuries and players opting out the replacements are still Pro Bowlers but well down the list of good players.
In fact if enough players opt out then a Viking could still sneak in.
It’s a joke, but I thought Will the Thrill would’ve made it.
Yeah, no kidding. I don’t know how much better you can get.
I have no idea how selections are even made, but don’t understand how Jefferson could be left off something like this.
‘how Jefferson could be left off’
Lower numbers, losing team, other WRs with more production…..
Jefferson has not looked good this year.
Lots of drops…had a good game Sunday though.
Losing teams get less post season honors. This is not a shock.
The comical part is Travis Kelce is the biggest vote getter.
Swifties running the league now…
The Vikings players are back in the building today. Obviously, we’ll get some clarity on McCarthy’s injury, but I sincerely doubt he plays this week on such a short turnaround to Thursday afternoon’s game.
Team is going to look terrible ……
As long as the Loins look worse.
Their injury report from yesterday.
They have a 10X better QB and a 2X better coach, so they’ll beat the Vikings by 14+ points IMO, especially if Brosmer starts. Then it’ll be 18+ points likely.
‘They have a 10X better QB and a 2X better coach’
Then how did we beat them last time? In Detroit even.
An excellent question.
I was waiting for JRo_42’s excellent answer.
I know the answer.
We scored more points than they did.
What do I win?
Prime ‘Expert Answer’ right there.
You get 100 Internet Bucks and an ‘Atta Boy’.
Fluke. We have a decent defense, which helped. Now, with playoffs out of the question, and JJ being hurt and trying to play or not playing (Brosmer), nobody is going to by trying hard, while Detroit is technically still alive. It will be a large victory for them.
#jinx
Never thought I’d see the day where Campbell was rated above KOC.
Well, look at what they’ve done over the past few years and what we’ve done. I don’t particularly love Campbell, but KOC has shown me he isn’t the guy to hit the next level.
A guy can hope…any guesses what I’m hoping…play or nay?
You’re a doomer now. You’re probably hoping the team isn’t able to the stadium.
As Bow said – you are basically anti-Viking now – you are hoping JJ doesn’t play (or any other starters for that matter) and the Vikes get beat 51 zip.
That’s the easy out. As you recall I was down on sitting the QB1 in the preseason, we saw how that played out. Then the interminable high ankle sprain. Then the concussion. Now (I’m hoping) he misses another game for the right hand injury. Sooner or later it is going to become so obvious even the eternal homers and McCarthy lovers will see it.
All I want is the Vikings to build a team that can make the playoffs and win playoff games. That will not happen in 2026 if the coaches do what we did in 2025.
You were absolutely correct about the preseason.
we look like dog shit coming out of the gates, but then again, maybe that was just the overcomplicated system. They were trying to run with a rookie quarterback.
I see the Christmas Day games are on Netflix, does that mean only rich, gouger, types can watch them??
Asking for a friend.
I have Netflix (or rather the wife does) but didn’t realize all the Christmas games are on that app.
2 games on Netflix. The night game is on Prime.
It does mean that you need Netflix to watch them, except the local teams. They should be on a local broadcast. Fox 9
So says SoCal with his Paramount Plus and HBO max subscriptions…(joking)
Do they still have Skinamax?
Trying to watch Skinamax’s scrambled screen view ruined my eyes as a teen.
It was that not the ‘other thing’ that made me blind.
That just means us ordinary folks down in Florida will have no football.
Yep
I have an easy solution for you if you aren’t afraid to dabble.
I think KAM and KOC agreed to a concept where the team would be led by a young QB on a rookie deal, on day one. That was the plan, and KAM wanted to be free of Cousins and his contract as soon as practical. String him along on a series of one year extensions, until they found their guy. Cousins sort of upended their plans by signing with Atlanta, because we weren’t really ready to transition to a new guy yet when he left. Still, that Achilles injury was pretty much the end of the story here in Minnesota for Cousins. Since Cousins left, we have had Josh Dobbs, Nick Mullens, Jaren Hall, Sam Darnold, JJ McCarthy, Carson Wentz, and Max Brosmer under center. Seven QB’s in less than two seasons. We also had Daniel Jones on the roster, so eight if you throw him in the mix. We will settle down in 2026, and McCarthy will be the guy. Brosmer will likely be #2, unless they keep Wentz under contract.
They will get a different backup. I don’t think Brosmer is a good enough backup, and I don’t think they do either.
SKOLOHOLICS PICK EM AND SURVIVAL UPDATES #16
What an exciting week of excitement! JacksonVike claimed his spot at the top of the weekly scoresheet with an absolutely devastating margin of victory. He actually beat the top overall leader, ManlyPurple by 23 points!
Surly came in second. Me and Let’s Fish tied for third.
Overall, JacksonVike’s mammoth scoring week puts him over the 1200 point barrier and enables him to see Kirko’s buttocks in the distance. Then you got PA, DE, Lasalle and me in a fairly close clump. Only 13 points separate us from top to bottom. I still believe I can get into the top 5. I just have to not suck. It’s not that hard.
Let’s Fish is only 17 points behind Surly for third place. Then ManlyPurple and NoDak are still battling. NoDak lost a bit of ground this week. He is now 26 points back.
This week was pretty standard. Everyone got a lot of the same game right and wrong. Success really depended on how one divvied up their confidence points. For example, Denver and Rams really screwed me. I lost 24 points on those two games. I should have expected the Seahawks to win on a screw two-point conversion. How dumb of me…
Everyone got the Eagles, Bills, Bengals, NO, MIN, Houston and SF games right. That might be the most everyone got right all season. Everyone only got one game wrong: the Lions game. Crafty Rodgers strikes again! Lions are really DED. It appears Ben Johnson was their secret sauce all along because the Bears keep on trucking.
We had one outright Genuis Pick. NoDak is the only one who got the Seahawks right. I guess everyone expected Darnold to maybe cave. That was kind of my thinking. We will give Surly and DE Genius Pick Awards, as well. They were the only ones who picked Jax over the Broncos. Jax are a nonentity to me. I have no idea what they are doing. I don’t know if I have even seen a highlight with a Jax player in it.
As for Iconoclast Picks, DE was the only one to take the Cardinals over the Falcons. Pick against Kirk to your peril! We will throw out a couple more Iconoclast Picks: NoDak and JacksonVike for picking Dallas over the Chargers and NoDak and Kirko for picking the Ravens over the Patriots. I watched a couple minutes of that game. That is the first time I watched Maye. He is pretty good. It is always shocking to me to watch other QBs play because they are so much better than hours, frankly.
No Traitor Picks this week. We all took the Vikes. I figured Giants are 2-12 and going for that Number 1 pick. Why would they want to win?
Still no change in Survival League. PA and ManlyPurple remain in a sudden death situation. First one that makes a wrong pick is done! They have to be running out of good teams by now. Soon, they will be picking the Raiders.
GET YOUR PICKS IN BEFORE THE BIRTH OF OUR LORD AND SAVIOR!
I’m coming for you
Kirk Cousins Is Complicating the Falcons’ 2026 Quarterback Decision
Happy KirkTuesday!
Watching old man Rivers play last night made me wonder, Does Kirk still have 7 years left in him??
Kirk gonna Rich Gannon it up in his second coming.
I was thinking something slightly different watching Rivers last night – namely, if we had had just that level of QB play this year, what would our record be.
Rivers did OK, but I wouldn’t want a full season of him.
He’s even less mobile than Cousins, and is good for, at most, a 25-30 yard toss. Beyond that and it’s INT city.
I could live with OK.
Rivers sees it, knows it, and throws it as quickly as ever. The fact that he could walk into a franchise after five years of being a high school football coach in Fairhope Alabama, and actually move the offense effectively and score points with his arm, is remarkable. It’s his brain that makes him capable of getting the job done. He can still throw the ball pretty darn well too.
I don’t think I saw a single spiral come off his hand last night.
“Shot put” comes to mind……
He was really Joe Kapp like last night.
Rec for Joe Kapp reference.
Loved Joe Kapp.
Joe Kapp was ‘all that’.
A 16.5 m documentary on him.
That is awesome! Thanks for sharing.
Yeah, if he played against a defense who gets pressure, he would be toast
Cousins might retire at the end of this season. He likely will have a lot of opportunities doing broadcasting, working with Peyton Manning Productions, etc. He’s smart, articulate, and can even sing. The sports entertainment industry will want him on air. Terry Bradshaw is way past his prime, and I could see Cousins replacing him.
I think he wanted his sons to be able to see him play a little more though, so he may hang in there another year or two.
If he sings during a broadcast, I’m going to sue.
Laughing
Yet another reason to watch the NFL on mute.
LOL, no.
what defines someone being “injury prone”? is it….always being injured?
or is it only injuries that are “not ordinary, or brought on by themselves”?
i’m in a discussion with a friend and he thinks ALL of mcfragiles injuries are “Freak” and thus doesn’t label him as injury prone.
i can’t get on board with that line of thinking. A sprained ankle isn’t really a “freak” injury. a torn MCL or whatever he had isn’t really a “freak” injury. injuries that occur in the field of play are generally not freak injuries (non contact sometimes maybe?) but all of mcfragiles injuries i wouldn’t label “freak” injuries.
I have seen those folks, too. To me an injury is an injury, and if a player regularly has injuries, they are “injury-prone.”
i would concur and agree with this statement.
this same person would say that Darrisaw is injury prone while Mcfragile is not.
I would say they BOTH are
I even ran into a guy who claimed JJM’s was not to blame for the fumble that he fumbled on because his hand was hurt.
That was a new one to me. Apparently, if a player is injured, they are absolved of turnover blame.
I wouldn’t say Darrisaw is injury prone. He’s a big man coming back from acl tear. I expect him to be fully healthy and back to being one of the best left tackles in the league next year.
I am not willing to label the injuries as ‘freak’ but they are constant and frustrating. Not sure if they will stop and as always I will ‘hope for the best but expect the worst’.
‘The most important ability is availability’.
Good question. I was wondering about something similar on my way to work this morning – what makes certain players more susceptible to concussions than others?
I mean, EVERY player out there is getting knocked in the head, whether it’s a collision on the O/D line, or bounced off the ground while getting tackled – but some people, like Kelly, acquire concussions like my kid acquires Pokemon cards and 3D printed animals.
He has missed more games than he has started.
2 years of this.
He is injury prone and it is time to move on.
Keep him next season, throw him out there if he is the best qb on the roster, but expect him to be on IR again by week 3.
I was a Huge JJ proponent, but this is now silly. And the team having Wentz/Brosmer as the backup plan is crap. That is on Kwesi.
I still do not like Kirko (it is Tues, after all) but have to agree with NLNVF that this roster would be winning more games with competent QB play. There is just no way to keep paying QBs the salary that Kirko/Sam/Jones are getting with their new teams and still try to fill the holes on this roster. If they had kept any of those players, the free agent signings that mostly failed would not have happened. Time to build through the draft. If only the team could draft as well as the Pukers, we would have a good team.
Vikings are in full rebuild mode. They can keep calling it a “competitive rebuild” or whatever. This season is a failure. I only expected 2-3 more wins, and was hoping for 1 playoff win. Injuries matter, and JJ is injured enough that he has proven he is not reliable.
I harken back to the old “can’t make the club from the tub” quote – was that Zim? Remember Percy Harvin? I think of the McFragile™ debacle like seeing a surgeon to have a portion of your colon removed…in the clinic their hands are shaking, suspicious boozy smell on breath, bloodshot eyes…but you think yeah I’m hitching my wagon to this star I’m sure he’ll be fine come gametime (surgery). Nope nope nope. If we’re being honest he did not play very well against the Giants for the limited time he was on the field. Draft another QB, draft one every year like the words up top say, and coach them up together.
JJ can be the backup if he wants, but they need someone new next year. He isn’t that good, and on top of it, injuries galore. Can’t run a team like that.
I can almost guarantee that Cousins, and Favre, with soft tissue injury to the medial aspect of their hand, would have told the training staff after negative x-rays that they were going back out there.
@I heard nein really got the injury doing his flip – he is made of glass@
He got injured when his hand hit a helmet. The same injury that took out Russell Wilson and Stafford a couple of years ago.
I wouldn’t call any “freak” injuries, but there is a difference between somebody who gets hurt from contact and somebody who continually pulls hammies, tears ACLs (Penix), etc. Contact induced injuries I could see how somebody would call them “freak” injuries. Need to look at was it the player putting themselves in a bad situation or truly just a random play. I’m more worried about guys who are always pulling something than somebody with a bad string of luck. The short term outcome is the same, but there is a chance you stop taking weird hits, but if you constantly pull muscles, that is more concerning long term.
How the heck did Rivers get the ball more than 10 yards down field throwing like Brucie?
He was channeling an older Sonny Jurgensen. A very good passer who developed the original Dad Bod back in the early 70s.
Our initial injury report from yesterday.
It is quite a bit long but De-Riots is longer, 12 players on theirs. So in comparison ours looks short. So two extremely beat up teams going after each other on a very short week.

And as always FTP.
Good morning SoCal… and yes, FTP!
Merry Christmas week!
