Vikings Discussion & Random Thoughts
I hope everyone had a fun and enjoyable NFL draft week/weekend. We had a really good time, and we ate some really yummy food. I was actually pretty pleased with the Vikings’ draft this year. The Vikings went really heavy on defense, which I’m okay with. I feel like they added talent and/or depth at the positions where they were weakest, and built on a Flores defense that keeps getting better every year. It sucks to see Greenard go, but he was likely going to be gone anyway, and the Vikings are pretty stacked at his position, so they might as well get something for him. Two third round picks isn’t horrible, hopefully they parlay those picks into a couple of future studs. All the best to Greenard, it was a lot of fun to cheer for him and watch him play for the purple and gold.
First Round
They say that Banks was a reach in the first round, but if he’s a guy they really wanted, and he was there when they were on the clock, then get the guy. If the dude succeeds here, nobody on earth is going to care if you drafted him with the 18th pick or the 200th pick. They could have tried to trade back, and they may have tried, but sometimes that can backfire and you miss the guy you want (this seemed to happen to Kwesi quite often when he tried to outsmart everyone).
Day Two
I really liked the Golday and Orange picks, lots of potential for them to succeed under Flores. We definitely needed depth at tackle, especially with our run of bad luck with O-line injuries over the last couple years. They added some secondary depth at both corner and safety, and they found a fullback to take over after Ham’s retirement.
Day Three
I watched some footage of Claiborne, the running back they drafted, and I really like how he runs the ball. We definitely need talented depth in the backfield, we can’t count on Cam Akers being available every time we’re desperate. They waited until the 7th to add depth at the Center position, but hey, I think Bradbury and Elflein were 2nd and 3rd round picks, so drafting a center early in the draft was obviously not working.
Position
I think the team’s heading in a good direction, they seem to have consistent depth at most positions, so an unexpected injury or something doesn’t throw the season into chaos & force the team to bring someone in off the street to start. I like the quarterback room MUCH better this year than I did last year. There will be an actual competition for the starting spot, and we’ll have three guys on the team who can legitimitely win games for the team while under center. The team seems to have things much more in control this year, and it seems like the Vikings are in a much better position coming out of the draft than they were last year.
Vikings & NFL News
Yahoo Sports says that there’s reason to get excited about Brett Thorson, the punter out of Georgia that the Vikings signed after this year’s draft as an UDFA.
Vikings.com provides a list of every Minnesota Viking 2026 draft selection. The Vikings also agreed to terms with 2026 undrafted free agents, Vikings.com again with the details.
49ers GM John Lynch would still like to trade Brandon Aiyuk now that the draft is over, says he wants teams to call him, per NFL.com.
NFL.com hands out draft grades for all 32 NFL teams. About three years too early, but hey, it gives them something to write about.

Caleb Banks enjoys physically imposing his will on other players. It’s why he loves football. His whole life he’s been able to do that. What happens when he finds out that in the NFL everybody is just as big and strong as he is, and imposing his will doesn’t actually work anymore?
He will adapt just like every college player that ever moved to the NFL as was successful.
Maybe…
You know what happens when you punch a bully in the mouth? They tend to stop being a bully. Imposing your will on another player in the NFL is really hard to do. These are the biggest and strongest athletes in the world.
‘You know what happens when you punch a bully in the mouth? They tend to stop being a bully’
Or the Bully beats the shit out of you. I have had both happen to me.
Laughing. Well my point is, Banks is about to find out he’s no longer that big, bad man he’s always been on the field. We’ll see how he progresses, because he’ll get professional coaching to hone his game.
Any techy-types on here? My laptop is displaying the text on webpages as very grainy, as though the resolution is of a 80’s era Commodore 64. I checked the screen resolution and it is the same as always. Hmm.
Put your glasses on MT
Did you try turning it off and on again??
Whenever I am confronted by such issues, I go on to Google and type something like:
“Text on webpages appears grainy.”
Google knows everything!
Is it also super zoomed in? What web browser are you using? Make sure your Zoom level in the browser itself isnt on some ungodly high number. Keep it around 100%-125%

Sounds Jets-like.
I joined 2010 this weekend and bought a Roku.
Next, I might take up “texting.”
Laughing
What is a Roku?
The Teacher is coordinating with her DIL to use her ‘Cricket’. Had that one explained but still not sure I understand what it is.
Roku is a smart TV system.
A Cricket is a fancy little device that cuts things, usually for crafting or scrapbooking from what I remember. My son and I actually used my sister’s Cricket to make our sign for the Vikings game we went to a couple years ago.
Tech and I are not on speaking terms it seems.
Simply put, a Roku TV allows you to move off a cable provider, and just use your internet connection for your TV service.
Plus your streaming service fees…..
Yes, which you still need even if you have a cable TV provider.
We currently have YouTube TV so not sure how that ranks in the strata of Streaming Options.
Same, but I have several other streaming app’s as well. Some out there stream old TV shows like “The Wild Wild West” etc.
Seems kind of UnManly of you to be doing crafty stuff…..
I’m with you…”fire stick” and “roku” are confusing to me…all of my TV’s are smart TV’s and we stream all our content (ain’t no cable out in the boonies) and one of my TV’s is actually a Roku TV so I just shrug when people say they bought a Roku, assuming it is not a TV but rather some stick you plug in the back.
You can do either. Roku makes Roku tvs with the Roku function built in, or you can buy a stick and plug it into the tv.
Our smart TV is not that smart anymore. We got it 10 years ago. Streaming through the Roku is a lot more fluid.
Plus, we are going to dump Amazon Prime, I think. If I’m going to watch ads, I’m going to watch Tubi or something.
Otherwise, we don’t use any streaming services at this time.
Jim Brown in a 2008 interview with Esquire, said: “A liberal will cut off your leg so he can hand you a crutch,” critiquing approaches that foster dependency.
The man knew the truth.
Still the RB GOAT imo….
Definitely, followed by Barry Sanders.
No argument there.
I’d put Sweetness at #3….
That dog will hunt.
As an Illinois boy, and despite the injuries, I thought Sayers was better.
Sayers absolutely worth the nod. Amazing production in a short time
18 inches of daylight. Great player.
You’re old enough to recall, the Bears had a total shit offense – it was all Sayers. He ran back kickoffs, punts. They would throw him screen passes 10 yards behind the LOC with no blocking just to get him the ball in space.
’Kansas Comet’
Graduate of Omaha Central High School.
Same school that graduated Henry Fonda and Ahman Green.
Sayers youngest inductee to Pro Football HOF
List gets a little murky after that as far as rankings.
Emmitt is up there somewhere. Great offensive lines and all but the numbers are still impressive. Not saying he’s #4, but he’s up there.
Dickerson, Tomlinson, Faulk….
AP is top 10 – and I’ve been critical of his ball security and pass pro, but the pure ability and production are top 10 easy.
Hard to keep Frank Gore off the list too – just based on longevity.
certainly missing someone.
Easy to keep Frank gore off the list, he wasn’t great at anything other than playing forever
Love me some Frank Gore
that might be due to the multiple fantasy title his consistency brought me.
Frank Gore stays
I remove OJ for Gore.
OJ was maybe the best cutback runner ever, he could read blocks and slice right though even the slightest opportunities
Definitely a slasher….
Did you know OJ was originally favored to be cast as The Terminator but ultimately was found not to be believable as a “killing machine”?
Reality is often stranger than fiction.
And the Browns had another guy, LeRoy Kelly, that took over after Brown left and he turned out pretty good too.
Yeah, browns also later had Leroy hoard who would get you three no matter how many you needed.
lol…
so now that the draft is over, the vikings are allegedy looking at filling our vacant GM role….
i heard the 49ers have a younger personnel exec that is all about inclusivity and thinking outside the box, i wonder if we’ll take a look at him
LOL i LOVED odenkirk’s cameo on the office
‘We are one…. FUNKY BUNCH….’
he was in the original pool to play Michael Scott. Seth Rogen too.
yeah there were a few interesting actors in the casting pool for some of those characters, i think they got the characters/actors perfectly.
steve carrell was perfection
Agreed. Perfectly cast in that role.
the same way Spader was perfectly cast as Bobby California. Perfect.
Any role that is a creepy, outcast, or otherwise oddball type person is perfect for spader
I could see Bob in that role, Rogen would have sucked.
I agree. Rogen would’ve been awful.
I’m not a big fan of his, though quite a few people have said I sound like him but with a deeper voice, I don’t really hear it though.
I think Rogen has his moments. My ex wife bought me one of his weed ashtrays a few years back – molded with a joint holder.
Goose knocked it off the table and broke it less than a month after I’d owned it.
Goose not a Rogen fan
Hazel doesn’t need weed to look high.
What a great dog!
I’m with goose
Minnesota could make history with the first Tranny GM.
It’s all right there for the HR department to execute.
i love this gif so much
Yeah, miss stu
nostrafreezemos….
Banks won’t have any issues with his foot moving forward. he won’t miss any time and he will be an all pro within 2 years.
That would be awesome.
of course he might have to have his foot amputated in the next 2 years as well.
nostrafreezemos has spoken
No.
No bet hedging.
You were right the first time.
trust thyself freeze
Either fully recovered and all pro or foot amputated
I like the way you think ff
inclined to believe this as well.
i hope the medical staff for the vikings isn’t as incompetent as matt daniel’s special teams coverage schemes.
Daniels coaching special teams and special teams included the best kicker in the league.
agree coverage was terrible all year, cost us the Chicago game and a playoff spot.
but Will The Thrill is what saved his job. Only thing that makes sense.
the only thing that makes sense that daniels still has a job is that he is the sole person who was begging to draft will the thrill.
the ONLY thing that makes sense LOL
Or he has pictures of one of the owners voting for Trump.
It’s a joke. Thanks for the thumbs down. Street cred, baby! And the fact that I have to explain that it is a joke because of all the political stuff that is on here makes either you or me an idiot.
Joke was good, obvious even.
Downvoter was/is an idiot.
Maybe he will give me some Street Cred next.
Yeah the kicker is elite, which hasn’t happened since before the 2015 playoffs when their kicker who will remain nameless was really good before completely soiling his pants on a 27 yard fg attempt. Fat boy was a decent punter as well but got paid a lot in FA. The coverage units sucked last year.
Maybe he thinks he’s coaching the special needs team?
My bet is that he will be in for a “second opinion” before training camp even starts.
#nojinx
I would say
Hell No.
Just No.
Maybe Yes.
Probably Yes.

I’ve seen some comments online that we didn’t get a top WR in the draft. Lots of folks think we’ll bring in another guy. I think we might, and reuniting DeAndre Hopkins with Murray would make sense.
Of all those choices Jennings is the most appealing to me. Penchant for moving the chains, capable and willing run blocker, talks trash and brings a ‘bully’ mentality to the offense imo.
but I think he wants paid more than what we’re willing to give up.
Hopkins makes a ton of sense if he’s cheap enough – good vet presence in the locker room, rapport with Kyler.
I like Jennings, especially the bully part, JJ is elite and Addison good, but they are both kind of pansies. I do believe he wants more than a WR3 role though.
I think so too. But it sounds like SF doesn’t want to pay him either. Just remember him being pretty clutch for the 49ers in the playoffs a few times. Think they call him ‘3rd & Juan’ in SF due to his ability to move the chains.
Yeah he made some pretty clutch catches and is a gritty player, I’d take him in a heartbeat as WR3
If we wait long enough, his demands will drop.
Agree.
Jennings out of that bunch.
Welp, the draft happened. I have no idea how the Vikes did. I read some very angry takes. I read some positive takes.
Seems the general consensus is Banks might have been a reach, and they should have taken the safety the Bears took and got Banks later. Sounds cool in theory, but I don’t know if it was possible. Other teams were also taking DEs.
The angry folks didn’t like Banks’ injury, it seems, and it is not unreasonable to be wary of big-man foot injuries.
Otherwise, I don’t really care if they went defensive heavy. That is fine with me.
If the team totally sucks this year, the house will be cleaned anyway, so I don’t think the current triangle of authority has a lot of time to compound mistakes.
People grading the test, before the players take it, is a fool’s errand. Our front office did their thing, and now we’ll see if any of our picks pan out. It looked to me like the team covered the team needs. Now we have to see if those selections pay off. Have to say I love the Bredeson pick. He just looks the part, and is an old school hitter IMO.
What? You mean fans disagree on things?!?!?!
I liked the Golday pick the best, Banks is potentially a great pick if he doesn’t have chronic foot problems, but complete bust if he does. All I know is nobody can really evaluate anything until these guys actually get on the field.
They still need a WR3, and some depth at edge but otherwise would seem to be ok.
as far as the upcoming season they’ll be their usual slightly above average team that goes one and done in the playoffs if they make it, which will satisfy the wilfs.
I also liked the Golday pick.
He’s rangy and versatile. Can play off ball or edge. I think he’s got a huge upside.
My favorite pick is Bredeson. Love me a FB. And he’s named Max. So obviously…. MAD MAX!
Also like the Claiborne pick – he’s diminutive in size but his running style reminds me of both Devon Achane and Warrick Dunn. Both smaller guys who had speed to get the edge and ability to run between the tackles.
So you’re saying the Vikings drafted a version of Alstott and Dunn?
Basically.
Also, that scene is my absolute favorite from that movie.
best part is when he kicks that random lady’s cart when walking away…..
Welcome to MN Caleb !
It’s Monday morning, it took me awhile to get that gif.
I still don’t get it, someone is going to kick him in the shin?
It’s a foot thing I am thinking.
Yes.
LOL.
I thought it was obvious.
The shin is part of the foot? I did not know that.
You’re looking too much into it Ben.
And someone might in fact just step on his foot in practice and his season is over.
Apparently someone might kick him in the shin and end his season as well lol
Banks has a broken shin now, too???
The Vikings just cannot catch a break…
lol, but banks sure can
3 of them so far.
Caleb. Hurt Foot.
Thank you for getting it.
I thought it was a no brainer…..but I guess not.
Good morning, SKOL!
