Well between Toronto, Montreal, and Ottawa not much of a playoff presence any year in the Eastern side of things. Pretty much pre ordained that Vancouver and Edmonton would meet in the second round. I can only hope that Dallas and Colorado beat the piss out of each other and that the Oilers can steal one in Vancouver this week.

6 May 2024 2:11 pm

Pretty slow day today so I will share my weekend fun.

First I put together my new table saw and stand and spent a couple of hours making sure everything was “trued up” and practicing using it. Been a long time since I have used a table saw (shop class in HS) and I value my fingers. I’m thinking I’m going to buy a proprietary product called Grabrr–rrrs or some such thing, table saws are mean if you fall asleep on them.

Second I truly had fun beginning the process of piecing together a drip irrigation system. I already have a shallow well (about 30 feet deep) that we put in last fall, put a 25 foot culvert pipe on end into the well. There are two options for hardware stores in GDV, one is the somewhat cheaper version with more stuff (Runnings) but they have shitty help, the other (Ace) is the more expensive version with an amazing dude (Harold) who at age 82 still works full time + and knows more shit about shit than I’ll ever know. but with limited inventory.

I decided to go to Runnings. I had a penciled out sketch and parts list written down, figured it would take me about three hours in the store to find everything I needed, would probably have to order 10% of the stuff on Amazon. Last second my wife said, I’ll come with you! Crap. We get to the store and she of many years experience with me sez WTF is that piece of paper you have? You had better ask for help. Ack.

So I get the half baked potato with the sweet aroma of alcohol on his breath (wife – he probably just drank a lot last night uh huh). What a debacle. I will admit I found what I was looking for significantly faster with his help but he struggled with translating what I was telling him.

Spent about three hours each day slowing piecing together the jigsaw puzzle. It will be way easier at the irrigation side than the supply side because of the decreasing pipe diameter.

MT Viking
Reply to  SoCalMinnFan

100% correct.

I really needed to get a jump start on all the stuff I needed to get water out of a shallow (25 foot) well and transfer it to 3 700 foot runs of drip irrigation located 200 feet from the well. Working with 3/4 inch drip irrigation black poly pipe is easy. It is the 2 inch and 1 1/2 inch proximal piping that is a bear and takes a lot of patience on my part, since I am a novice.

Just like a doctor, I connected the 1 1/2″ foot valve to the riser pipe, the riser to a priming tee, the priming tee to a cam lock, the cam lock to the pump, the pump to a cam lock, the cam lock to a tee with hose bib, the tee to an elbow, the elbow to a drop, the drop to an elbow, the elbow to 200 feet of 2″ pipe. Now I can move to the distal end of the 2″ and start the easier stuff…until my 340 trees and shrubs.

The helper guy just couldn’t envision my dream. Plus they were out of things I wanted (like a bumblebee accordion pipe) that would have made the plumbing a lot easier. Instead I had to measure, measure, measure, cut, curse, measure again, cut another 1/4 inch, etc…

Almost as complicated as the Escrow paperwork I had to sign Friday.

I had to look up words so that I could try to parse sentences to determine if they even pertained to me or not.

I finally just drove an hour 1 way so that the ‘experts’ could tell me which questions I could ignore and which I had to initial and sign off on.

Legal paperwork is not something a moran like me should be left with unsupervised.

For those interested in such things.
Many days there is fun poked at Biden for his mental lapses, punky walk, whatever. Mostly all true.
But last night on Mark Levin’s Show – the monologue – Levin goes through Biden’s many remarks, decisions and activities of last 40 plus years.
This was Biden before the old age mental problems. At his best so to speak.
His decisions and statements are simply breathtaking.
Don’t know how to post the show, but it is well worth a view. This is the real Biden unvarnished.

But really it’s the Dems fucking it up not Joe right? Can’t have it both ways, either he’s an absent minded fool who can’t do anything for himself right? Because you watch, when he’s out of office they will say it wasn’t the Dems fault it was all Biden, not the Dems. Which is usually the case for things a president gets wrong their party will try and distance themselves at times but truly this time there is no excuse because Biden isn’t making any of the decisions.

JRobert
JRobert
Reply to  Edgecrusher71
6 May 2024 1:33 pm

That was not my point al all.
My overall point in starting this – it’s not that Biden is old and absent minded as most including you claim (true though).
Rather, Biden has been bad/poor his ENTIRE career. Just go back and look at his record and the things he has said.
And secondly, Biden has no original ideas – he’s a windsock. When the Dems are over here on an issue, so is Biden. When they turn 100 degrees, Biden follows right along. Contrast that with Obama, Reagan who actually led their parties.
And lastly, would suggest to you Dems can be fucking things up and Biden can be adding to it but simply not reigning things in.

Edgecrusher71
Reply to  JRobert

I know and agree on most too except saying he has no original ideas. Again, I get what you are saying but if you say that then you can’t give him full credit for shit head ideas he’s had. Ya know?

And the turning 180 degrees and following. Both parties and followers are guilty of that big time. So if you are a Dem or a Repub and want to shit on the other side for turning around on stances this is where I say people in glass houses stuff. But pointing out the obvious truth on those topics always get’s both sides undies in a bunch.

It was because KAM refused to give Cousins a long term deal. Stop misrepresenting the truth DE. I get it that you feel compelled to villainize Cousins at every turn. That said, KAM never wanted to keep Cousins long term, and strung him out as long as he could. Cousins simply moved on to a team that offered him a 4 year deal with a no trade clause. Period.

freezeyface

imo i think it’s a bit of both.

i think it’s obvious he went where the most money was BUT ALSO the most years.
i think it can be both.

the vikings, in their smartness, didn’t want to hitch him to a 4 year contract, or a 3 year contract, and cousins didn’t want to admit/see the writing on the wall that he would be around for this year and then possibly next year while we groomed the QBOTF with a 2 year contract here.

i have zero doubts the vikings offered him a contract. but i also have zero doubts if was for too little and too short for what he wanted.

He offered a much lower cost deal to KAM last year, that was rejected, because the Vikings didn’t want to guarantee anything to Cousins beyond 2024. That has been well documented. It wasn’t about the money then, it was about the years and the no trade clause.

Then, the Falcons swooped in and gave Cousins a deal he couldn’t refuse.

Yes and willing to give him more NTC years could be interpreted as ‘more long term dedication’. So could ‘not going to draft a QB early, or ‘offer more guaranteed money’.

Lots of possibilities for interpretation.

Well cutting a player with guaranteed money on a contract is a tough sell, especially if he’s one of the best QB’s in the league. That wouldn’t make any sense, now would it?

But the owner was happy with the pick. ATL has been in QB hell for a few years and it was the owner t that laid it on GM not to get in that position again. thus, a QB for present and one for the future.

I didn’t know that JR. I mean I knew the Falcons have been in QB hell for awhile now, just didn’t know the owner was pushing for the QB pick.

I mean the Packers did it, and had Rodgers replacement waiting in the queue.

The dude literally said in his press conference and/or a video after he agreed to sign with Atlanta that he chose the team he felt showed the most long term support of him, which coincidentally lines up with the reports that he didn’t like the Viking’s plan to draft a QB just to turn around and have the Falcons draft one before the Vikings did.

Yes there’s a little more context to this – he said many other things too.
He knew Vikings were going to draft another QB.
I once in a while get to talk to the man personally and some of his relatives – maybe not Albert Beer or whoever, but good sources.
Now NLV is off on some of his takes but so are the rest of you.

You said Cousins is only about the money, and that is a lie. You also stated he wasn’t happy that the Vikings planned to draft a QB, which is ridiculous in the extreme, and only some pundit pushed this out. Cousins was the first player on the Falcons to call Penix after he was drafted, and congratulated him. Penix said they had a great conversation. Yet pundits are writing Cousins is upset about it. Laughable.

I did not say anything about the money and I said there are reports from actual NFL people that he was unhappy about the Vikings drafting a QB, which you denied and I provided. You claim that the reports I have provided don’t exist and that you speak nothing but facts but you have no evidence to back up anything other than your feelings. I made no claim or judgement of Kirk. I simply provided reports from other people and you gotta go all white knight Kirk Crusader and deny what’s in front of you.

Since Kirk’s own comments don’t line up with the pie in the sky altar worship of Kirk, then his own comments didn’t happen? Everything lines up and there are numerous reports to back up what I have said. He thought Atlanta was committed long term and the Vikings weren’t since they were going to draft a QB high and were nice enough to tell him. He went to Atlanta and they drafted a QB higher than the Vikings and there is no way he thought that would happen or is happy about it. He may have a 4 year contract, but he’s not going to see all 4 years of it.

We got to see Zeph on Saturday as we did an early Mother’s Day get together with the kids. He was temporarily out of the hospital, so him and his mom joined us all for the day. That was fun. He was full of xxxx and vinegar. That was good to see. Mom was concerned he was over doing it.

Tomorrow morning he checks back into the hospital and then starts radiation twice a day for 3 days. Then he will do another round of chemo. My understanding is that they want to kill everything, including his immune system, so that it will be optimal for the bone marrow transplant to be successful. During parts of this he will be on a morphine drip, so that sounds like there is potential for a lot of pain. The next few weeks are going to be intense.

Dad finally showed up at our house at 3am Sunday. That was a long drive for him, plus he had to stop and do homework and take a test along the way. It was nice for him to get to spend the day with his daughter. He is heading down to Madison shortly.

We appreciate all of your thoughts and prayers.

Part of you sharing is excitement and part is commiserating.

From a guy (n of 1) that met, dated and married a mother with two elementary age kids, and observing both my stepdaughter remarrying with her having a young daughter and my stepson divorcing and dating with kids I’ll just point out that dating a mother is a different experience than you may be used to…if she is flirting with you while dating another guy, let alone a guy that is (per your description) not a good guy…as previously mentioned that is a red flag as a mother and potentially your future wife should be very focused on the kid and their future and not getting involved with a (my words) POS nor flirting with someone else after dating boyfriend #1 for more than oh two weeks or so.

The other advice I would give you is that if your dream becomes a reality you will very quickly become a figure in the life of the child, in my case within a month I was dealing with generalized snarkiness, discipline and mild paternal care (ie helping with vomiting, scraped knees, etc), I assume you are prepared to be a “bonus dad”, and that the father of the child will always be a part of your life with your beloved.

KFEY93
Reply to  MT Viking

Very sobering comment. And I mean, the flirting was light hearted. As iv stated before (you may have missed it) is I made a pass at her one night when she took me home because she was DD, we talked for hours and I tried to kiss her goodbye and she rejected it. That to me is a green flag in hind sight. At the end of the day I think she’s confused, and she needs time to get her shit figured out. She is very much focused on her child as far as being in her life but I agree I have some hesitation with her ability to choose good men to put around that child, I’ve straight up called her stupid for it, I hope the reality check she needs isn’t a major detriment. Iv known her since February she’s been seeing this guy since December. Obviously me meeting her kid is something thats not even a factor yet but I am well aware of how that changes things and my life, my sister married into a situation like that so iv grown up observing its stresses. Her kid looks awesome and has her moms personality and humor, I would be ready for that, or at least ready to start adapting. I have a lot of love to share. And if her Dad is a good man, thats all I need, I can get a long with damn near anyone.

I believe he loved being a dad, or at least appeared that way in the movie, so being a naval navigator in an F16 is one of the things he loved to do.

I would bet he would rather be alive and not flying in a jet than being dead. But this is merely my opinion.

Didn’t watch the movie so I am speaking in the abstract.

I can’t think of any Job/career I am willing to die for, unless you think being a father/uncle/family member is a Job.

And I say that as a former member of the military. I was there to defend the country and therefore the family.

Looks like I was right…. Senator Nicole Mitchell will be protected after committing a felony and nothing will happen. D’s voted (including her own vote!) to give her back her voting rights (or protect, rather) so they can maintain their 1-vote majority. Crooked government officials… God knows this would not be the case had it been an R.

“Mitchell’s presence is critical at the legislature because the Democrats have only a one-vote majority. As a temporary punishment, Mitchell has been removed from committee assignments and can’t attend caucus meetings. But she has been voting and says she won’t resign.”

Slap on the wrist for show.

Absolute bullshit, and it just keeps getting proven OVER AND OVER, that Dems care about the prosperity of their party, not the country or their constituents… Pubs, same thing. But anyone who calls themselves a Dem and votes only Dem or Pub and always votes Pub are complicit in this issue.

Because it’s an action both sides are very guilty of that allows this to happen. And it frustrates me to no end. And I can point out over and over to a Republican that shit like this happens with Dems and they are all like, YEAH THEY ARE SO CORRUPT! But then you point out that it happens on their side (which it does) and they are like BOOO, MY SIDE DOESN’T DO THAT! So any time I see someone post anything from either side doing corrupt shit that stems from corruption bread by party loyalty I point it out. It’s amazing how each side reacts exactly how you are reacting and refuses to see the underlying issue as the root issue. Party loyalty is why Dems have no hesitation in this situation.

I think the worst part in all these situation is you know there is an under the table hand shake or understanding of, “Hey we’ll still let you vote but you are now my lapdog and you do whatever I say.” Just disgusting.

Sorry I see where the confusion came in. The Dems in this situation probably feel real comfy with no worries this move will not hurt them politically. Because people who identify as Dem will vote for them no matter what… and they know that. So what I was getting across is this is what breeds and allows this kind of corruption to exist. And it’s rampant on both sides. I see how my wording made you guys think I was blaming shit on one side, that was not my intention.

Perhaps we are talking degrees here then.
When Nixon was in trouble, 25 Repub Senators went to Nixon and said resign or be impeached.
When Boehner was Speaker, he made a Repub resign over exposing himself in a bathroom.
As late as the 2020 election, when the Hunter laptop was a big election issue, despite the lies saying there was no truth to the story, AG Barr who knew the story was true, said nothing as a matter of principal.
I agree both sides do it to some degree, but not sure there is an equality here.

BS to this. How many Pubs were vehemently disgusted with Trump when he first ran. Trump bashed them personally not just politically, said terrible things about their families etc… and then had to sit and stroke his ego once he was the candidate and be good little lap dogs. Watch, as you read this I know your immediate reaction is, BOTH SIDES do this every campaign! As if I don’t totally agree with your argument because you know I think both sides suck. But what matters in the end for both is what? The party’s prosperity.

What’s funny is I’ve had this conversation with Dems and they have the same exact stance as you guys in the end they are like, sure some corruption or cronyism exists but it’s worse on the other side. Hook, line and sinker… THEY GOT YA ALL! lol

that was not my reaction at all – BOTH Sides.
I was actually thinking when Trump got to Washington he actually had half the Republicans there against him. Some for sure about crap he said, but more for his intend to ‘drain the swamp’ – the swamp is both Repubs and Democrats.
I really don’t think you know how I feel.
I spent nearly 50 years living in Washington and it’s very political envirement. So I really don’t think like most folks. Bit shaped by actual experience and knowledge.

Some interesting family drama. I have an uncle who’s 3 or more strokes in. He’s the oldest kid of my dad’s generation and living at my grandma’s house as she basically takes care of him. They live right up a gravel road from my parents. My family is very worried about what a threat he is on the road and he’s always driving. My mom (use to be a mechanic) took his keys and pulled something off his car so he couldn’t drive. Dude is not all there, will complain about the bird in the corner (there is no bird). He threated to call the cops about the car and keys, so my parents called and the sheriff was like, yup, I understand he’s a danger but legally if he calls us you’ll have to give his keys back. So they did. He packed his wagon (his vehicle, he’s truly about an 8 year old mentally right now), and left. Headed to Rapid/Sturgis as one of his brother’s lives in Sturgis. Just terrifying he is probably not the only one on the road like this. BUT working with his son, we got a doctor’s note into the state saying he shouldn’t drive. So once that is processed (who knows how long that will take), they send him a letter and he has 15 days to respond with proving documents he is suitable to drive and when he can’t his license is revoked and we can just give cops his vehicles plate and description and get him off the road… fuck I hope he doesn’t kill anyone in that meantime but what else do you do? He said he was only visiting his brother in Sturgis, so who knows where he heads form there.

I remember when they took my grandmas keys away. For a woman that is only 4′ tall she put up one hell of a fight.

Also had a boss who told me his dad, they thought had dementia, had several minor strokes and would forget where he was and where he was going. One fall during harvest, he was taking a load of grain to the elevator, and when he didn’t return they notified authorities. The state patrol found him almost to Blue Earth, nearly 45 miles from his home, in a tractor going down I90.

My Mother In Law came home one time with her rear bumper dragging along the ground behind her. She could not explain/remember what happened to cause that.

The family started the process to take her keys but she fell and broke her hip soon afterwards and then spend years in facilities. She went downhill fast.

It can be quite the ordeal to “take the keys” if the parent won’t agree. After my mom drove her Explorer through the side of the senior center, with no recollection of what happened, I said over my dead body would I let her drive again. About six month’s later she told me she wished she had the Ranger (my dad’s old pickup that I brought to the US a couple of years earlier with her blessing, and that I use as my daily driver) and I said oh no you can’t drive call a farking taxi. She told me her doctor said she could drive, I called the doctor and he said “there is no medical reason she can’t drive and I said yeah the medical reason is that since she still doesn’t know why she was going 40 into the side of a building I’m not planning on giving a deposition in the death of a young child where I tell them you felt she was competent to drive again when I felt quite the opposite, with several more years of advanced medical training than you have as my qualifier.” That put an end to that malarkey.

I love the bonus that YT TV has a “key plays” option for recorded games. When the Oilers are playing on the west coast, no way I’m staying up during the opening rounds of the playoffs until 11:30 or later if game goes into OT. I’ll watch the highlights of the first period, go to bed, and first thing when I wake up in the morning run the key plays. Ten minutes later I’ve seen the highlights. Later I can watch some of those moments in more detail.

Now if they make it all the way to the SCF, I’ll be watching live.

I’m not sure he possessed a leading-man spark anyway. He’s a bit boyish and lacks the sort of stoicism displayed by someone like Chuck Norris, which can cover a lack of acting skills.

How dare you besmirch Chuck’s great acting skills.
