Congrats to the US Men’s hockey team. I’m still pretty pumped about that game and the memes and videos from it are awesome. The team getting Gaudreau’s kids from the stands to take a picture with the team holding their dad’s jersey made my house get pretty dusty. Jack Hughes’ interview after the game should be required viewing for any athlete representing the US in competition for the rest of time. Other than that, let’s have a great week. I’m starting it with a sick kid, but my wife got her email from her school and is now officially graduated and can be a real teacher. May God have mercy on her soul. I couldn’t do it. Dealing with stupid adults is bad enough.

Here’s the whole post for those not wanting to click the “Show more”

Here’s the truth about Team USA women’s hockey’s decision to not attend The State of the Union at The White House*

1. Team USA women’s hockey knew they were invited to The White House prior to Trump’s call with the men’s team. They weren’t an “afterthought” as many have reported.

2. Many team members found Trump saying “we have to invite the women too or I’ll get impeached”, humorous, didn’t take offense, and knew it was a joke.

3. Jack & Quinn Hughes mother, who is a player development consultant for the women’s team, was not offended by Trump’s call, nor was she offended by her sons/their team’s laughter after Trump’s comment.

4. A few players spoke against accepting Trump’s invitation to attend The State of the Union in the team chat. I don’t know exactly who, but based on past comments and actions, we can speculate Captain Hilary Knight was one of those players. So this decision does have a political element to it.

5. USA Hockey is actively trying to schedule a White House visit after the NCAA/PWHL seasons, because they want the publicity. My opinion, there’s no better publicity than now. They’re squandering a MASSIVE opportunity, while the men are capitalizing on it, and uniting America around their team.

6. The “academic and professional commitments” excuse has validity, but it doesn’t tell the whole story. Accommodations were offered to ensure players could get back to school and prepare for the second half of the PWHL season starting Thursday (NHL resumes Wednesday).

*Majority of this information was provided by an inside source connected to the team & has direct contact with many of it’s players

Overall, the women’s team could’ve made this work, but they declined, which means this will go down as the biggest missed opportunity to promote women’s hockey in the history of the sport…

For a league (PWHL) actively working to add expansion teams this offseason, and add “franchise level” contracts, this a incredibly poor PR decision.

They could do worse, and of course they could do better.
Thinking Mac is valuable to the 9ers as he kept them in the playoff hunt when Purdy went down for awhile last year. Purdy goes down frequently enough that Mac has real value in Frisco.
By the time the Vikings offer enough to pry him loose they could probably get a better option with those picks. Of course in typical fan fashion I have no idea who that ‘better option’ might be.

I’m going to put it right here in black and white and expect to be ridiculed when I am wrong.

-if the Vikings offer more than a ham sandwich/vet minimum for a QB2 I am going to be pissed.
-we are not winning the SB the 2026 season
-we are not winning the SB the 2027 season as we will be rebuilding the front office and presumptively starting over with another QB
-we are not winning the SB the 2028 season as the QB will be developing
-we could potentially win the SB the 2029 season
-therefore, I have gone into casual fan hibernation until February 2030 when I expect to wake up to a Minnesota-Jacksonville SB in Mexico City.

Makes me think of men playing women’s sports. How long until we start debating whether having bionic implants provides an unfair advantage? Some cybernetic arm wielding pitcher throwing 160 mph fastballs?

Also, why haven’t men invaded women’s tennis? The lowest ranked male tennis players could beat the top ranked women…plus three sets vs five…shoot that’s a no brainer.

Renee Richards was a trans tennis player in the 80s that played vs women.

I saw him/her/it compete vs women and lose.
My buddy was even more childish than I am, and was copying the “grunt like a man” Richards performed with each swing of the racket.

I was wrong about timing. late 70s is when I saw her/it

She has also realized that if she had transitioned in her 20s or teens, no woman would have been able to beat her, so she has actually changed her perspective of biological males ever competing vs women.

The only way to fix this, is blood tests required and only biological females compete vs each other.

Trans can start their own sports leagues, and they probably will.

KOC wants to keep his job.
We had Cousins in 22 and won division.
We had no QB in 23 and did poorly.
We had Sam in 24 and won 14 games.
We didn’t have much last year and were out of playoffs with a month to play.
Think KOC picked up on this?

LOL on Mexico City.

I think the team could compete in 2027 if McFragile plays like he did about 10% of the time last season. If that becomes the normal for him, and he improves on, well….everything QB related, he has the physical skills.

If he is not the guy long term, then I agree with you completely, and I am fine with the team going complete rebuild. but they will not.
8 wins still sells out the stadium, and that is all the owners care about.

I am still looking for the team to improve over last season in 2026, but I am not delusional enough to imagine a Super Bowl at the end of 2026 season.

I took it as just a dude talking to dudes saying “Yeah, we’re gonna have fun, but just so you know, the “Mrs.” is gonna get an invite, too.”

This is all with the understanding that many women’s sports are less appealing to the average viewer in terms of speed and skill, but I imagine how I would feel as the father of one of those players.

The liberal media consistently does everything in it’s power to denigrate Trump. That includes blatantly lying to the public. Trump continues to sue them (and win) over their lies, which I love. So here’s how I see the cap situation playing out for the Vikings:

1. Contract Restructures (Maximum Savings)

Justin Jefferson: As the highest 2026 cap hit ($38.9M), restructuring his deal could save over $19 million.

Christian Darrisaw: A full restructure of his deal can open up over $11 million.

Byron Murphy Jr.: Restructuring his deal can save roughly $10–$11 million.

Jonathan Greenard: A restructure or extension of his deal can create upwards of $12 million in space.

T.J. Hockenson: Restructuring his $21.3M cap hit could free up approximately $11 million.

Total 2026 cap savings: $64M

2. Strategic Cuts/Releases

Javon Hargrave: Releasing or trading Hargrave is a primary option, saving roughly $11 million.

Aaron Jones: Cutting Jones can save approximately $7–$8 million.

Ryan Kelly: Moving on from the veteran center could save over $8 million.

Jonathan Allen: Releasing him can free up over $4 million.

Brian O’Neill: While a key player, cutting him could save over $14 million, though an extension is more likely.

3. Potential for $100M+ in Total Relief

In the end, depending on what they do with O’Neill, the Vikings have the flexibility to create between $95M and $110M in total cap expansion if they use a combination of simple and advanced restructures, along with cutting high-priced veterans.

I think Ryan Kelly will be cut first.

You’re welcome.

I never said there was a problem. I stated the reality that the Vikings are second worst in the league in cap space, and $42M in the hole.

In the end, kicking $110M in cap space down the road doesn’t “fix” the problem, it resolves it for 2026.

New Atlanta Falcons general manager Ian Cunningham informed Kirk Cousins recently that the team would release him on the first day of the league year, Cunningham said Tuesday morning on 92.9 The Game.

Cunningham said in the radio interview that he spoke with Cousins and his agent Mike McCartney about the decision, which does not come as a big surprise considering Cousins’ contract restructure several months ago. The first day of the league year is March 11.

I don’t see any situation in the league where Cousins fits. My expectation is he’ll be in a broadcast booth, or on some TV show for this year. Sure, there are some teams out there that could use him, but he would only take a job that gives him some chance at winning. He’s not going to the Browns or the Raiders, or the Jets. He’ll move on.

I have my doubts NoDak. It just doesn’t feel like that is really in the cards. In many ways, Cousins has simply priced himself out of the market. Teams are looking for that fiscal balance at the QB position in the NFL. There are guys who are costing teams over $50M a year. Finding a “cheap” QB who can still produce is tricky.

Projected Highest-Paid QBs (2026 Annualized Value/Cap Hits):

Dak Prescott (DAL): ~$60M+ APY (Top contract extension)
Lamar Jackson (BAL): ~$74.5M cap hit
Josh Allen (BUF): ~$55M+ APY
Tua Tagovailoa (MIA): ~$55M-$56.4M+
Jared Goff (DET): ~$55M
Jordan Love (GB): ~$51M
Patrick Mahomes (KC): ~$56.8M (Restructured/Active contract)
Brock Purdy (SF): ~$47M
Deshaun Watson (CLE): ~$46M
Matthew Stafford (LAR): ~$40M

That is some list.
I think Stafford and Mahomes are worth the pay they are getting. I think the rest are overpaid, some by a lot.
Not sure how you move on from Lamar and Allen, but that is too much money going to one role. Yes, the QB is critical, but that is too large a % of the cap in my useless opinion.

Dak is the funniest.

I agree… NFL teams get cap increases every year, but that just means players want to be paid more. Cap goes up, salaries go up. Nature of the business. No one is going to pay Cousins a top shelf contract anymore at this point though, and he isn’t interested in being the next Joe Flacco.

Not sure what a list of the priciest QBs in the league has to do with our situation. We are looking for the best QB vet that we can afford. That could be KC if he is willing, probably not, or some other FA QB who hopes KOC can ‘Sam Darnold’ their career.

The point is, Cousins remains a top shelf QB. His brain and arm are as good as ever. Teams know he’s not signing some BS lowball contract. They know he isn’t coming in as a backup, and they know he isn’t signing with a loser team.

Now, he can decide that $10 million is not worth getting beat up on a football field, but if that is what somebody is willing to pay him, that is what he is worth.

I expect that he will get offered more than that by someone.

I believe he signs for the most guaranteed money available.

He has publically said he wants to play another year.

If the Jets offer $15 million but the Vikings offer $12 million, he probably takes the Vikings offer.

Short of a reasonable competitive offer, he takes the most money. Always has. Always will.
Even though he claims it’s not about the money.
It’s always about the money.

I get it.
You’re correct.

His value will be whatever team wants to pay him. And I predict he takes anything over $15 million guaranteed, regardless of the team.

The $10 million versus pain and suffering on your body, is likely his threshold.
Just my absolute WAG.

That may well be true, but he is coming off two rather lackluster seasons with the Falcons. Some (many) think he is over the hill.
If he goes to some shit team for more money, the final stages of his career will be crap, and he knows that.
Better to go to a better place for him (like us) at less money, and resurrect his image and career.

As you would expect, the majority of posters on the Oilers fan site are Canadian, so they were naturally a little down after the hockey result. I tried to salve the wounds with a little “just a bunch of millionaires playing a game” and “much more important to me to end the drought of Stanley Cups” and the comment was made how seeing Patel guzzling champagne with the boys and Trump calling and making a somewhat sexist remark about women’s hockey (women’s hockey holds no love for me) really grinded their gears followed by my comment…well DJT says a lot of things that are offensive, it’s in his business DNA…they pointed out the eagle stomping on the goose was unbecoming of the office which I have to agree with so I decided it was best to get while the getting was good. The talk about Newsom is interesting and speaks a little to qualifications and performance.
I’m a little older but earlier in my time a candidates qualifications were a solid consideration for considering election ( to varying degrees). For example, prior to Bill Clinton service in the military was a big deal for Presidential candidate. Even later, Senators were thought less of compared to Governors as they lacked executive experience.
Was listening to DeSantis talk yesterday. He is not a very polished politician (a la Newsom) but is an extremely capable Senior Executive and it shows as he executes the duties of his position.
No company worth two cents would hire a CEO without extensive executive experience. Yet voters will select a President or Governor with virtually none and then everyone wonders why everything gets so f’d up.
Substance and experience always matters.
