Minnesota Vikings Discussion – SkolAsylum: September 23, 2026

maxresdefault

Happy Humpday and welcome to Skoloholics. I heard Caleb Williams will not play this Sunday, turns out his leg is fine, the problem is he broke a nail. I see punter Brett Thorson pulled his hammy as well, and the Vikings Signed Johnny Hekker to the practice squad as an insurance policy. Soldier field is such a dump, I am surprised there weren’t more injuries, to be honest. I can’t wait until they move to Hammond Indiana. Everyone enjoy your day and remember the golden rule; be kind to each other and show everyone respect.

Hey guys, thought I’d pop in and just give my thoughts on the game this week. I had tickets, but had my wife sell them to one of her clients. I’m still in Myrtle Beach with my sister.

That Bears game was something. Bad weather, tough sledding for both teams, and yeah the Bears only mustering 3 points after scoring 59 in week 1. Some ugly football there, but I liked the outcome of course.

I think we’ll beat Tampa. I think Flo will get on Mayfield and force him out of the pocket. He’s not going to be great. KOC needs to get the ball to the playmakers, and I don’t mean Kyler. I want him to be a damn QB. I think we win 24-17.

Thank you PA. She’s bedridden, so there’s a lot of fundamental biological challenges with that. I try to keep her occupied, and her spirits up. She does like doing puzzles and Word games like Wordle. She likes board games too like Scrabble. She’s good at them too. She also hates to lose. I think that runs in the family. Grin.

Miss your takes – personally think the Bucs are past their prime and we should smoke them.
You need to “pop in” more frequently. I don’t [post much anymore but do look in here once in a while and often wonder how you are doing..
Perhaps, time permitting, you could again post more often. It’s a small community and every poster matters, and all contribute. And you were certainly one of the heavy lifters.

Hey JR, I have a lot going on, trying to care for my sister, while also trying to be a decent husband. I spend 5 or 6 days with my sister, go home to Tampa for a few days, then come back up to Myrtle Beach. My wife is getting a bit fed up with the arrangement I must say, so I told my brother we need to split the duties. Maybe 4 weeks on and 4 weeks off or something. His wife isn’t all that keen on that idea though, and my sister isn’t leaving her home. It’s a struggle.

I’ll try and pop in a little more frequently. I hope all is well with you and yours.

Trying maintain my ‘hope for the best but expect the worst’ mantra but 2-0 in the division is a fine way to start the season.

Bit of a wild story causing a stink here locally in Bismarck. I took the GF and her daughter shopping at Costco after work last night, it was later, and we figured we would eat at one of the better known Mexican restaurants since its great food and it was close. We had a great time, good food as always, some drinks, and the waiter was awesome and let us try one of his personal favorite house tequilas which was fantastic. Find out this morning via BoomerBook that this morning, ICE raided them and detained two of their staff. One being his nephew. I have no idea if that was our waiter or not but I hope not because he was a good dude, was kind and knowledgeable and seemed passionate about the business, food and the drinks and was super kind to us.

Of course the owner is claiming the two people detained have all the proper paper work and have worked here legally for years etc. I want to believe that’s true but there’s two sides to everything and I’m not going to form a strong opinion until I know more. Sucks either way. All good people that iv interacted with there.

I sort of had a strange thought thinking about this.
Where i live you can’t walk across the street without running into a probable illegal.
Now I have never been to Bismarck, but just didn’t think of it as a place to have many illegals. And as such, not much ICE action.

There’s a surprising amount of Latinos, specifically Mexicans in the “bigger” cities. And Bismarck and Mandan have an ABSURD amount of Mexican restaurants, like too many for the size of our area. ICE isnt normally here, I think they just swung through to do their thing.

Depends on if he is the cause of those losses.
Is he throwing Ints everywhere? Constantly fumbling? Scrambling and running into defenders vs executing the plays??
Or is the Defense getting run out of the stadium (not likely but possible)??
Are special teams giving up turnovers and long returns (always possible)??
Are RB and WRs fumbling over and over again (we have been there before)??

Obviously everything that occurs in a game does not fall squarely on the quarterback, kicker, etc. I can say definitively that I’m in the camp of SoCal.

If Murray is throwing interceptions, has wide open receivers, but decides to check down or throw it out of bounds, that is an issue. All of that compounded on each other is a catastrophe, but if it happens in multiple games then you have to think about going back to Wentz.

We saw 11 plays. Tough to base a decision off that right now.

But, I do remember seeing one of those 11 where a receiver (TE I believe) was crossing the middle, wide freaking open about 10 yards downfield, and Murray either chose to roll out to the R or was forced to roll out and evade the DE coming in, and threw incomplete because by then the receiver was covered.

Not sure if the play was designed for Murray to roll out, parallel the receiver and then throw it, but he was wide open before the rollout occurred and before he was pressured.

Made me question his ability to make good choices.

I remember when fans of your team told us that RB Eddie Lacy was going to eat our lunch (haha). It was incessant. Aaron Rodgers + Eddie Lacy = doom for the rest of the division. So obnoxious.

He played 60 games and got 6 TDs his whole career. In 2024 he was arrested for DUI with a BAC of .325

Also, I had to list my occupation and employer. I have two jobs, kind of (self-employed plus part time work at my church), and it was weird to think that either of them might still be relevant in 10 years.

I just renewed my passport too even though I don’t travel. I legitimately hate traveling, but my wife said I needed to renew it for various reasons.

The post office then lost it. It remained lost in the mail system for about two months. I never checked tracking because I didn’t care that much, but then I realized I should have gotten my new passport by that point, so I finally checked tracking.

It made it to St. Paul and no further. I started a lost mail claim. Wonder of wonder, they did eventually find it after looking for about two more weeks.

I have heard other people complaining about lost mail, too. The USPS is failing us.

I’m surprised the USPS is still around, frankly. They have the backing of the federal government (which is why, I suppose), but that allows them to be terribly inefficient, operate at a net loss, and still survive.

UPS/FedEx/etc would all do just fine without the tax drain competition.

USPS is not supported by your tax dollars.

The U.S. Postal Service (USPS) does not receive tax dollars for its normal day-to-day operations. [1]

How USPS Gets Its Funding

  • Self-funded: The agency relies entirely on revenue earned from selling stamps, shipping packages, and providing postal products and services. [1, 2]
  • No operating budget: Congress does not give the USPS an annual budget or tax-funded check to pay workers, maintain facilities, or fuel trucks. [1]

Minor Exceptions

  • Free mail services: Congress provides a very small, specific appropriation (around $50 million a year) to reimburse the USPS for legally mandated free mailing services, such as materials for the blind and overseas voters. [1]
  • Government loans: The USPS has the authority to borrow money from the U.S. Treasury, though it must pay back these loans with interest using its own operational revenue

Their instructions for taking a picture reveal that they get a lot of stupid selfies submitted that could never work.

I took a perfect picture in front of a light gray wall. They auto-rejected it, and a prompt reminded me to take my picture in front of a white wall.

There were many warnings to not alter the picture at all.

So I painted my wall and took another picture. I would never dream of opening the file in photo editing software and making the wall lighter artificially.

Glad it was a good one!

I drove through Grand Junction twice. I saw a band in Denver and drove to Salt Lake City to see their show again the next night. We were booking it on the way through GJ the first time, but on the way back to Denver we stopped and stretched our legs. The scenery was beautiful.

Another day, another party…

I overslept today. I have some sort of weird illness. It started off as an intestinal thing Thursday, a general malaise until Monday and then turned into a very sore throat last night. So far only slight sniffles.

Maybe I got a COVID variant.

Of course I came to work so I can get everyone else sick.

Naw, they should be fine. I am off in my own little corner and can avoid everyone.

I take pride in being a trustworthy “sick” person at work when it comes to calling in sick. When I call in sick, I just say, “I won’t be in today. I’m sick.”

You can tell the fake sick people because they are always like, “I don’t think I can make it in today. I got a bad headache last night around 9 PM. Then I couldn’t sleep at all. I didn’t fall asleep until around three in the morning and then I kept waking up. I tried to get up around five, and then something in my back popped, so now I have a headache and a sore back and I haven’t slept, and I feel a bit nauseous, too. I took my temperature and it is around 102, and now I started coughing. My throat is a bit sore. I think I even blacked out once or twice while showering. Hopefully, I can make it in tomorrow…”

The fake sick people always sell it too hard. If you know the person well enough, you can usually figure it out, too. You can say, “Okay, they are sick. What day is it? It’s Tuesday. Monday Night Football went into overtime last night. That person spent the whole game drinking beer and eating a gallon of cheese dip, so now they don’t feel like getting out of bed…”

back in the day, I was usually sick on Mondays if the Vikings played the late afternoon or evening Sunday game. It was pretty consistent, imagine that.

And for sure Tuesday if they played the Monday night game.

But other than that, I was an extremely loyal and dependable employee.

I generally don’t care how much time people at work waste or how much they goof around as long as they do their work efficiently, accurately and dependably for the customers.

Very few folks put in a perfect 40 hour week. Got to let them blow off some steam somehow, or they can burnout.

But I do get annoyed when the people who can’t work efficiently, accurately and dependably screw around.

Back in the day when we did billing amongst our related companies, we devised a formula for the billing and a portion of that formula factored in an inefficiency %. I think it was close to 20%.

What really woke me up was I worked “part-time” for awhile and realized I was actually doing more work that the “full-time” people.

Funny thing I have never called in sick. I haven’t missed a day of school or work since I was 12, never skipped a class. Yes, I am odd. Now I would sooner drag myself in to work with my extremities gangrenous than call in sick.

PS I am actually very healthy. Although I’m known to exaggerate, the above paragraph is true.

I kind of like getting sick nowadays because it gives me a guilt-free reason to do nothing.

It doesn’t happen enough!

If I am sick I usually am enjoying my sick day by lying in bed with either an upset stomach, headache, or, most likely, both.

We’ve been chuckling about KOC’s “commitment to the run”, but so far the Vikings have 62 rushing plays vs 44 passes. We can attribute some of that to the weather in Chicago last Sunday, but still.

Let’s see what the ration looks like in Tampa this week.

I heard Caleb Williams will not play this Sunday, turns out his leg is fine, the problem is he broke a nail.
