Happy Victory Monday, and welcome to Skoloholics. Another victory for the good guys. This time it was an all around good game. The offense seems to have turned a corner and is firing on at least 6 cylinders. This week we are guaranteed not to lose, as it is our bye week. The bye week is coming at the right time, with Addison and Mason sidelined with injuries.
It sounds like Mason is scheduled to be back after the bye and ready to face the Colts. There is no timeline yet on Addison, but hopefully he will be back soon. Aaron Jones, Miles Price and Tai Felton have stepped up in their absence. But, Jones especially needs a lighter work load, if we want him to be available later in the season.

He’s not Mexican, his name isn’t Juan
RJ Mitte (Walt Jr on Breaking Bad) dead at 34
sadly by suicide
Was just watching replay of the game from yesterday
The backup TEs did a really good job, blocking and receiving
jones absolutely trucked that safety on his way to his TD
defense harassed shough all day, I think only one sack but they pressured him relentlessly, they gave up that one first down though so they suck
Vikings need a different backup LT, that guy is terrible
reichard is the best kicker in the nfl
did something happen to the TE Oliver? I was surprised to not see him when Hock went out
Out for the season, torn triceps or pec or something arm/shoulder related
The most stressful thing for me watching the Vikings offense is a KOC staple – huddle breaks at :09 or :10 on the playclock, Kyler has his arm cheat sheet flipped open studying the x’s as he moves behind center, then calls an audible with :06 on the clock. Shocking that we have a problem with false starts behind a patchwork OL. I’ve come to the conclusion KOC is calling Mensa level plays right up to the :15 second mark. Once again the reason I think we need a dedicated OC calling the plays.
100% this
I agree, KOC should get a real OC to call plays so he can focus on things like the clock and game management, I always thought the same of zim with the defense
I agree 100%. Was yelling at the TV multiple times yesterday to get the play in and snap the ball. Its a McVay tree thing for sure, there’s video of Stafford last week yelling at Sean to just stop talking because it takes too long. Has to be a way to shorten the play call depending on the situation.
Easy. Just take the last letters off every word.
I guess at least he has never been so stupid as to suck so bad at game management that he tried to call for a timeout when he didn’t have one, thereby helping extend a drive for the opponent and subsequently losing to something called cooper rush, so I guess it could be worser
I had forgotten about that…yikes Zimmer
Yeah that sucked
holy smokes, you are all dumb, ugly AND annoying.
that being said, Skol Vikes!!
i think my absolute favorite posts on here are when “i told you so i said this i said that remember when i said this i also added that i was right i said this…..”
and by absolute favorite, i mean insanely annoying and stupid
carry on, and always remember what my 7 year old said yesterday about kyler murray:
“wow, that little guy can really run fast”
Nice to see you too, freezey.
of course you are excused from this post, don’t worry
you got real condescending after lake-house-gate
mo money mo nose turning up
That’s funny, my 7 year old asked during the bears game why I watch the Vikings, I said it’s tradition since I can remember, your grandpa always did, she said but they never win that one game, I had no response
Thanks moron….
Just having fun with yuh freezy. That’s a very pretty mirror you got there. (excellent gif usage btw)
i’m the gif master, take notes and stay on the gif porch son
lol ok nvf
Maybe the fan told him he was getting the McCarthy name plate replaced with OBJ’s?
Makes sense.
I can’t really tell in the video if “McCarthy” is on the back.
Still hilarious.
Well, at this point they both suck at football so I guess it makes sense?
This is what I was hoping would happen with Murray as the QB.
A QB that can move and find space.
Great play here by the Midget.
Nice throw, but the escapabilty is what made it, either way, great play on 3st and long
Yeah. That’s my point.
Thank you
Was nice to see finally, had a nice scramble on another 3st and long
Yep.
It only took 5 games……
I wonder if his hesitancy to run or scramble is because of the injuries he’s had the last couple years, he slid fairly early a couple times where he probably could have made a move or gotten a little more before doing so
Shocker I know but I’m not a pro athlete. I’m significantly larger than Kyler and I would be sliding at least a yard before he does seeing these two ton tank LB’s closing on me.
Yeah, I’m 6’1 210 and I’d be sliding my ass down at least a couple yards before contact from a heat seeking safety coming in to crush me
“The Vikings officially activated a pair of players prior to the Week 5 Saints game. Check out the word from the team’s social media: “The #Vikings have elevated WRs Odell Beckham Jr. and Jeshaun Jones to the active roster for tomorrow’s game. C Michael Jurgens and TE Ben Yurosek have been activated from IR and will enter tomorrow’s game without an injury designation.”
OBJ didn’t log a snap, never even saw them zero in on him on the sidelines. Never saw Jurgens on the field either…..
Odell was activated but listed as OUT pre game so thats why you didnt see him on the field.
Yep.
He was put on the 53 MAN roster, but was “inactive” for the game.
Doubt he ever plays a snap for the Vikings
If he has to we are in trouble at WR. Like JA and JJ are both ded.
Did any one watch the SF Seattle game? I was watching it in the background and the play that was a fumble by Deebo, where he was touched by a Seattle player as he was going down and the ball hit the ground and came loose, was called a fumble. After review they said the call was confirmed. I did not think the ground could cause a fumble.
I didn’t see it, I was doing the same, washing dishes with the game on in the background and I heard but didn’t see that play, I did see a couple awesome plays by SF rookie DT though, that guy is good.
I think they said it was coming loose before it hit the ground. It seems really close to me.
I did watch it.
The ball was jarred lose prior to hitting the ground.
So the ground did not cause the fumble.
Based on the replay angle I saw, it was the correct call.
Thoughts on the game
offense came alive despite KOC, Murray looked decent, though he somehow didn’t see an open Jennings in the end zone, he did finally use his mobility to extend plays and run for a couple first downs
Jones was good, but the fumble in the red zone is killer
defense was was swarming as usual
Reichard is so good he gets to talk trash even though he’s a kicker
https://x.com/barstoolsports/status/2109402204478071175?s=46
Despite KOC? He called a good game that is adjusting to Kylers abilities. We’re seeing Kyler get better each week. KOC had the offense in the redzone multiple times. He didn’t fumble those 2 times. Could’ve scored 30. As far as I’m concerned, games 2,3, and 4 were like preseason for Kyler, getting used to the offense.
Yeah that trick play was a great playcall
It was one bad play call. Was it awful? Yes. Does it take away from the rest of the game, no.
His playcalling outside of that was ok, Murray made numerous plays off schedule and ran for a few first downs. He missed Jennings for that TD, honestly I think his height probably played into it but that’s the trade off with him, mobile and ability to make plays off script but also limited in what he can see from the pocket
Agreed. Thats the good and bad about him. Im just glad the good is starting to show up. There were times in the game I was leaning towards brining Wentz in but once he starte scrambling out of for sure sacks, I changed my tune pretty quick haha
Yeah, he can move for sure and make some plays outside of the playcall but fact is he’s limited by his height as a pocket passer, he played well yesterday but I think we all saw his limitations as well, I really hope they don’t sign him to a huge long term deal
I agree. Lets go as far as they can go this year, and have a plan A B and C from outside the org ready to go by the end of December, regardless of what happens in January.
Yeah, but just before this happened, Reichard pushed the Saints player and when the Saints player came at him he backed off like a scared little girl. But still, it’s nice to have a kicker with this level of confidence.
I was very pleased with the NFL instituting a 42 second game clock for the Jones TD.
it’s not uncommon that if the offense snaps it a second late they don’t call it, usually has to be blatant
I recall the Packers getting lots of delay of games ignored in years past
While the defense played well overall, can anybody tell me what they were doing on that 4th and 1 before the Saints scored their first TD? The CB’s were back about 7+ yards from the receivers and they needed 1 yard…. and they passed and got it easily. Stupidity like that (which I’ve seen many times in the past) is why I don’t trust the defense against the good teams we have coming up on the schedule. I still think the Lions are going to score 30+ on the Vikings.
Dude you are the king of nit picks. No NFL defense plays perfect every game week in and week out, none, not even the 85 bears. And you know what? I agree with you for that one play, myself and the entire group I was watching with said the same thing. But thats it, its one play, one down. We will see how we match up against a legit offense soon enough but my man you are hard to please.
So you agree with me and then thumbs down. Sounds reasonable.
So for context, I don’t think you’re get very far by giving teams free first downs by playing off the ball 7 yards on a short yardage situation. Good teams see that and take advantage, and they’ve been doing it for years. It won’t help us beat really good teams (which I maintain we haven’t played very good teams yet).
I agree it was odd they played that way on that particular down and I am curious if Flores addresses that decision. I dont agree that you cant trust this defense and that we should expect teams to drop 30+ on them easily. And comparing a team of 3 years ago to this roster does not make sense to me. I find it nit picky and just looking for a reason to complain about a 5-0 team. Who, granted Im not 100% bought in yet, but I am having fun, because winning is fun. I have PTSD from the 2016 5-0 so we shall see.
I just know the Vikings history, so until they win a game in the playoffs, I will naturally be skeptical.
That’s a fair take.
That’s the cross KOC’s gotta bare..
As you should. But, if they dont win one, it wont be because the defense was awful.
They might, but we’ll put 45 on their defense.
Yeah, the #1 defense in the nfl is the problem with this undefeated team
I was singling out the strategy on that play, which if you have common sense, you’ll admit was dumb.
You’re right, Flores is a moron
I don’t know if that was a Flores call, or the Mike made the wrong call, or the CB’s didn’t know the situation, but it was dumb. Because of that conversion, the Vikings ended up being behind in score at that point in the game. Not a good decision, regardless of where it was coming from.
Yeah, Flores, the Mike, and the cbs all suck lol, defense gave up 7 points and held a qb averaging over 300 yards a game to 96, but yeah they had that one play where they gave up a first down so let’s get rid of them all
Fire them !!
They suck, cut them
-five
Yep, that’s not actually at all what I said, just that it was a dumb decision on that play. Also, harder competition is coming, so forgive me if I don’t crown the Vikings the SB champions quite yet.
That’s the real point. We have been very good but haven’t exactly played the Rams, Niners, Bills level offenses yet. Not anyone’s fault, you can only beat the guys you play.
But we are going to see some better offenses down the road that will be good tests.
Exactly – you play who you play. But that doesn’t mean I can’t be skeptical about how good our defense actually is until they play who I think is actually a top 10 offense.
Can’t lie. I’m starting to get that whisper of hope in my ear. Murray looks like he’s either catching on, or KOC is dialing it down for him. Either way, the offense is starting to show signs of life.
I’d like to see Murray take the easy exit route when the pocket collapses instead of turning back into the melee and taking the sack.
Take away the 2 fumbles and we would likely have scored 33 or 37 yesterday.
Fingers crossed Darrisaw is able to return in 2 weeks. Huber has performed OK in pass pro, but Van Demark is a liability…maybe another couple years of maturation…..
Yup, he needs to know when the play is over and throw it away. That and missing some wide open WRs are my gripes with him at this point in time. He is looking more comfortable every week which is nice.
Huber has been ok, 72 absolutely sucks, when he’s not giving up sacks he’s getting called for holding or false starts
but yeah, take away the bad plays and the Vikings were perfect
Dear Santa,
It’s been a while since I wrote to you. You’ve done a great job selecting presents over the years.
I have one gift request this year. Please please please please stop KOC from calling trick plays again this season.
Thank you. Northwoods
PS, I’ll leave the milk in the fridge again this year, because warm milk – blech.
Pro tip, leave Santa beef jerky an beer.
I honestly can’t remember the last KOC trick play that worked.
Last year. Pitch to Cam Akers, who then threw a TD pass to Joe Oliver
Since it involved Cam Akers, I give all credit to Cam the Immortal.
it was about 1 foot from working earlier in the game yesterday
KOC will still call stupid plays and Santa isn’t real, hope this helps
Way to crush the poor guys hopes, no Santa and stupid plays will continue. Next you will tell us the Easter bunny isn’t real!
Hey now, let’s not get crazy I know the Easter bunny is real, hangs out with the tooth fairy all the time
Whew! I thought my whole belief systems was going to be upended today.
What’s the tooth fairy’s going rate these days? When I was a kid it was $1 but my daughter said her friends are getting fives these days
When I was a kid, it was a quarter. Inflation is a beast.
Dang, what was that 70 years ago?
Some days it feels like 70 years ago.
And KOC will still make stupid play calls
I didn’t get to see a good angle, but I’m wondering if linemen were blocking Murray’s view of Jennings wide freaking open in the end zone. How else could you explain it, other than maybe he and Jennings have a personality conflict?
I mean, he threw to JJ who was triple-covered…….
He was looking right at him, but that camera angle was from the end zone so it was hard to tell. Yeah Jennings broke wide open.
Yeah, Jennings was open a couple plays in a row (and clearly pissed about it) when Kyler missed him. And then Price fumbled, which amplified the mistakes by Kyler.
No, man….they just had their hands up!
Well, putting aside the MASSIVE difference in talent between JJ and Jennings, my guess is Murray didn’t see how open he was
After the bye, our next two games are against the Colts 29th ranked defense and the Lions 32nd ranked defense. Should be a chance for the offense to improve even more.
Especially with some injuries healing up:
Yes sir. Saints were ranked pretty poorly too, especially run Defense but we dont really have a healthy starting RB.
5-0. I like the sound of that. I didn’t get to see the game yesterday (stupid Packers – I spit on you), but as I was listening, it sounds like we may finally be getting some rhythm on offense. Now we just need to clean up the mistakes. Hopefully the bye week gets our offense a little healthier.
Yep, the pre-snap penalties are killing us. I think i read the other day that we lead the league in them. Gotta get that cleaned up.
I will say that I predicted 4-1 at worst when the bye week came around, happy with the 5-0 but I did not think it would happen the way it did. Bye week is earlier then most like but I also think its coming at the right time, teams is banged up and still figuring out how to get the offense to gel. We need a young, healthy RB very badly. Will the thrill is MVP, he will be my next Jersey. SKOL. Oh and also ol Kwerky is lookin like his old self for the Raiders and that prediction I made is also coming true against poorer competition. Strip sack? Check. Two TDs in the past two games, both only in the first quarter? Check. 0-2 against good teams? Check. Happy Monday!
Great optimism and insights. I am guessing we go into November undefeated, you heard it here first
Should be able to handle the Colts at home. The stretch after that is brutal, all the way through December. We will know what this team is capable of and what its not by time Thanksgiving rolls around. Even Atlanta looks competent. And GB will have Micah back by time we play them again I believe.
Jesus you people are deranged with your obsession about Kirk
I wish I could give this 100 thumbs up.
Wow, you have 100 thumbs.
Yes I do. I’m special that way.
Im just checking in on my predictions for the Raiders.
Then go to the raiders comment section, this is a Vikings website last I checked
I don’t mean offense, I’m just really sick of the talk about him, from everyone, I know the next good game he plays NVF will be on here talking about how great he is and I’ll have the same reaction, go post it in the raiders site. Nodiklib does the same, Kirk has a good game, comes here to compare him to the Vikings QB, I just honestly don’t understand the obsession either way, like why hate or love him so much?
My main problem is his grilling skills.
now that is a respectable stance, and I agree, I don’t think I’ve ever seen someone use foil on a grill until him
I hate him a lot because he cost 84 MILLION DOLLARS, and coincided with the end of Bridgewater/Bradford/Keenum, and threw short of the sticks on 4th down at the end of a playoff game.
He set the team back YEARS. Just because he’s been gone for a while doesn’t mean the consequences aren’t still echoing.
I hardly ever bring him up on my own, but if someone else does and I feel the desire to express my distaste, I’m not going to deny myself that for your precious feelings.
Put THAT in your recap! 🙂
Neither you or freezey must have had a good day at church yesterday.
I was way too busy. Number 1 and Number 2 were both out.
Too busy for church?
too busy AT church
ran meetings, did announcements, played guitar, and hosted a table in the lobby
That makes more sense
lol, teddy never developed like he may have after the knee explosion (still love that guy), Bradford was on his last legs when he got here, but my god could he sling it, of course knees though , and horseshoe fell out of keenums ass, I don’t blame Kirk for his contract or how much money he’s made, it’s not his fault GMs dumb
Also, there aren’t enough comments anymore to do a recap, especially with MT not posting much
I had a shit shit weekend. I enjoyed seeing the offense start to gel. Still waiting for that game in Mexico City to see what we really have.
Why a shit weekend? Because the Vikings won or is that Oregon QB still hurt?
A bad thing happened at work. Which is not to say I harmed a patient, rather I was professionally attacked and those who should have taken action looked away. This exacerbated the workplace stress that has been eating away at me the last two weeks.
I was putting my girls in their winter pajamas (foamboard insulation) on Saturday without smoke or veil and four of them stung me for the offense of pulling the top brood chamber off. Meanies. I suited up and smoked them.
My phone was blowing up while I was suited up. The coworker that I was closest to inside and outside the hospital in Billings committed suicide that morning. I’m still in shock, so many questions that will never be answered. He let his wife find him. Delightful.
Wow, that IS a shit weekend. Sorry about all of that, MT.
I’m sorry I asked, that is terrible and condolences
He did set our favorite team way, way back
Not sure how his or the Raiders play this year has much to do with anything.
Do you think our current cap and roster situations have nothing to do with past spending and personnel choices?
Those choices were made by the GM, he chose to pay Kirk what his agent asked for, despite a fair amount fans and zim not wanting to, but ultimately it was the GM and ownerships decisions, I mean of you ask for 84 mil and your employer says yes are you going to say no?
I don’t blame Kirk for taking what he was offered. I’m mad at the GM about Kirk, but I project it onto Cousins.
lol I’m similar, I will however hate Rick, but not project that onto Kirk, he took the money he was offered and I don’t blame him, never will. Rick made some really deft moves, drafting Harry, Kendricks, Hunter, Diggs, JJ, etc. but he also made some seriously dumb moves like ponder, Patterson, Treadwell, Hughes, Bradbury, and overpaying for a good not great QB, it’s like for every good move Rick made he completely offset it with something stupid
Fair enough, but I do take issue with some of the decisions KC made on the field.
Treadwell is still playing. We must just not have used him correctly.
Again, this started with someone out of the blue bringing up Cousins play and the Raiders this season.
He hasn’t played here in years, hell he doesn’t even play for the team he left Minnesota to play for, I just don’t understand why he lives so rent free in all your heads, nvf included, I mean once in a while someone might mention Fran or Daunte, even TK, but every day someone has to bring up Kirk for no damn reason
Consequences have echoes
there’s no dead cap related to the QB position other than JJ
We’d be in a better place right now if we’d had a different player and/or a better contract.
Be in a lot better place if the last GM didn’t suck at his job too
I mean would you rather have Kyle Hamilton or cine, booth, Ingram, and assmoah, I know my answer
Your prediction was verifiably and unquestionably wrong, and you doubled down on it and never admitted you were wrong, so congrats on that.
It was wrong, but only off by a week. *shrugs*
Yep, “I was wrong, but if you change the parameters of what I said, I wasn’t wrong”. Oh well…
You also can’t count. 3 TD’s (he had two the prior game, which I pointed out since you can’t read the box score).
Oh right the garbage time TD pass, correct, I did forget about that one.
Yep, garbage time where they had a chance to win the game and lost by 3…. You are delusional.
5-0!
I am very pleasantly surprised by this. Feels good.
I’ve been critical of KOC big time, so when he does well I have to acknowledge that too. I thought he called a much better game yesterday for Kyler’s skillset. I know the Saints defense sucks, but if Kyler and KOC keep that up I will happily eat crow.
Yeah, that dumbass trick backwards pass was a real great playcall, especially when the Vikings were running the ball down their throat, sheer genius
Yep, super dumb. Classic KOC. Thankfully that and the WR screen to Price on 3rd and long (the one he fumbled) were the only two plays yesterday where I thought to myself, “Wow, what a dumb play call.” That usually happens multiple times per quarter for me watching KOC.
As stated in the “This Pretty Much Sums It Up” link, the Juan Jennings signing looks like a complete failure. Might be the most overhyped FA move in a long time. Dude isn’t even targeted.
Oh well.
UNDEFEATED !!
Happy Columbus Day !!!
I’m honestly surprised at how bad Jennings has been. Granted, I think alot of it falls on Kyler since it looked like he was looking right at Jennings for an open touchdown, then decided to throw a different way…
But jennings was VERY productive for the 49ers. All around great WR in both the run block game and catching big 3rd downs and alot of passes.
It’s pretty shocking to see how he hasnt made as single impact the entire season
I am hoping, once we have our full array of receivers, Jennings will be used the way he was in SF. He could be the one who fills Oliver’s spot on the offense.
he’s very frustrated, punching the ground on one occasion on the sideline (smart move for a wr)….
it will be interesting to see how things look after the bye week.
I thpught that “punching the ground was after he was targeted and did not make the difficult catch
could have been?
That’s my recollection as well
“Christopher Columbus didn’t have a compass…….”
I enjoyed watching yesterday’s game, I did have to go outside and do some yard work at the end of the first half. We need to clean up the penalties and the turnovers. But, other than that it looks like we are not the frauds a lot of the “experts” were saying we were.
Yard work during a Viking game! Scandalous. You gotta fix those priorities.
4 penalties,30 yards. That isnt too bad. Better than prior games
Red zone turnovers were this weeks problem.
I was frustrated with how the first half went. Otherwise I would have not done the yardwork.
It wasn’t the amount of penalties it was the type of penalties and the timing of the penalties themselves.
SKOL on ANOTHER Victory Monday. I could get used to this
FTP
