Minnesota Vikings Discussion: Skoloholics 10/13/2026

fran

Happy Tuesday, and welcome to Skoloholics. Buffalo was able to outlast the Rams 37-34 last night. I watched the first half of the game and it was quite the back and forth. It looked like the last team to score was going to win it.

QOTD:
The Vikings have a bye this week, so who is everyone tuning in to watch?

The Bears travel to Atlanta to face the Falcons, and the Packers host Dallas.

Just checking in to take a break. Been a rough few days around here. Hurricane damage everywhere. Lots of people in serious situations. Thank god for organizations like Samaritan’s Purse and the Cajun Navy. Lots of great help from the State and numerous regional power companies. Incredible volunteers everywhere helping out. We have a few scammers and gougers taking advantage of people, but they are being handled.
This area is tough and has handled this situation many times over the years. These types of situations really bring out the best in communities.

SKOL Vikings!! 5-0 Baby! Makes me smile!

No. She visits more often than previous since my father passed a little over a year ago, I have worried about her often and how she may adjust to life without her husband of over 40 years. She has engaged more in the community, joining several boards and delivering meals on wheels. Despite not being my biological mother she chose to be my parent for 42 of my 44 years on this earth and I will forever be grateful. I know you meant that as a joke but I do not take kindly to it.

FTP certainly. I’d love that to be a win. Division games are so unpredictable, though.

Of the losses I listed, I think New England is a little more beatable than Carolina, but we get the Panthers at home, so I could see one of those flipping to a W for 12-5

SF will spank us (or the Vikings will beat the best team, give us hope, then lose to the hapless Falcons at home the following week) D’oh!

Never underestimate the ability of the Vikings to let us down. About the only time I’ll ever accept this could be our year is if we’re up by 17 past the two minute warning with the opponent having no time outs left and possession on their own 20 yard line in the Super Bowl. Not even the Vikings could lose at that point. PROVE ME WRONG GOD!!!

Since it is slow a thought on something I think is pretty screwed up. This is sort of a current event to me and do not mean it in any political way.
If there is one thing in this country we do well, it is how to kill people. We shoot them, hang them, stab them, electocute them, poison people, overdoses you name it.
So a couple of weeks back a state is going to execute someone. What happens, they blow it. But then after blowing it and realizing they failed, they rush the person to the hospital to save their life.
So we tried, failed, saved them, and from what I read we are going to try again.
What a mess.

From some dufus beat writer:

“Stock down: Jauan Jennings, WRIt was hard to find many weak spots in the Vikings’ dominant win, but after another goose egg from Jennings, it’s getting harder and harder to see what his future in Minnesota is. With just two catches on the season despite injuries to Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison, Jennings is starting to look like a very expensive WR3 who doesn’t add any value on special teams.”

Now I’m no football analyst, but last time I checked you can’t contribute much when they don’t throw the ball to you, or when they do, they overthrow you. The camera goes where the ball goes, so it’s hard to say if he’s getting any consistent separation, but Murray doesn’t have a problem throwing to other WRs who are covered……..

Since the NFL expanded to a 12-team playoff format in 1990 (and continuing through the modern era), only six teams have started 5-0 (or better) and failed to make the playoffs:

1993 Saints 5-0 finished 8-8
2003 Vikings 6-0 finished 9-7
2009 Giants 5-0 finished 8-8
2009 Broncos 6-0 finished 8-8
2015 Falcons 5-0 finished 8-8
2016 Vikings 5-0 finished 8-8

Skoloholics Pick ‘Em League Update #????

I don’t know what week it is. I don’t know what day it is. All I know is waking up, cornfields, work in between, more cornfields and going to bed. Things will look better in another week. I actually hope it rains Thursday, so I can get a break and only deal with regular work. It will feel like vacation!

Apparently, there were football games this week. I don’t even know what a TV is right now either. There is only corn, corn and more corn. Most corn I have ever seen in my life, and I’ve seen a lot of corn.

Bowbunch has taken the lead. Did he have the lead last week? I can’t remember. I think not. But we do not need to worry about this. Soon, Bow will take to the woods to hunt and forget all about pick ’em league as he battles elk and bear and mushroom-hunting hippies who demand he hugs animals rather than eat them. They will then show him the way by hugging a bear and dying hippy deaths. Mourne not for them, however. It’s how they wanted to go, one with nature as bear poop.

PA is in second place. Again, my memory is fuzzy, and I’m not going to actually to research to confirm, but I think PA has steadily been moving up in the rankings, as well. Do we need to worry about him? If PA stands for Pennsylvania, I honestly don’t know. Does anyone know anything about Pennsylvania? What even is it? It is one of those states that has no identity. It is never mentioned by anyone. Is there any state that is more bland? Maybe New Hampshire?

Mjolnir remains steady in third, and he is only five points out of first place. Five points is easy to make up. All he needs is one coin-flip game to flip in his favor while the people ahead of him took the other team. Like that Jax/Eagles game. I heard that game flipped in the final seconds. Speaking of flipping, I think I finally figured out how to avoid the failure of that first pancake. I must let the pan heat up more to an even medium temperature. It is difficult to display that amount of patience, however. The need for pancakes overrides all rationale.

Peterplaysbass is in fourth place. He can see the podium on the right and the abyss on the left. He is lukewarm, biblically speaking. Will he be spit out or pick a temperature? He’ll know that reference…

JacksonVike slips to fifth…or did he return to fifth? These are questions for stat nerds. All I remember is that he used to be in first. I wonder what it is like to taste those dizzying heights of success and then be mediocre? We could probably ask Nelly Furtado about that…

I am in sixth place. I can live with that. I was in the bottom of the standings at one point Sunday, but I clawed my way back up a smidgen.

Surly and DE are tied for the bottom spots. They are not in a hopeless position, however. One decent week and they could be back up in fifth or thereabouts. Plenty of weeks left for that.

Everyone got the Bears and Cowboys games wrong. Honestly, the Cowboys should just disband at this stage. How do you lose to the Bucs with Mayfield out? The Bucs were running a rookie QB according to Google. What team would get beat by a rookie QB or backup that handily?

…

Don’t answer that…

Everyone got Houston and Cinci right and that is it. It looks like it was a tough week on everyone. Very few gimmie games. Then Giants and Redskins tied, so all those points were negated. I only had three points on that game, so not a huge loss for me.

We had two Iconoclast Picks. DE was the only one to take the Eagles over Jax and he was almost a genius for it! Surly was the only one to take the Chargers over Denver. Man, what happened to the Chargers? They were supposed to take the leap with Harbaugh, and they are going backwards.

We didn’t really have an Genius Picks. The closest we get is the Ravens/Falcons game. Me, Jacksonvike and Peterplaysbass took the Ravens. I honestly have no idea how that game went in my favor. It appears Lamar Jackson was out. I had no idea that was the case. Like I said, all I know is corn right now.

We had two Traitor Picks. Me and DE were the only ones to take the Saints over the Vikings. I just figured our luck was going to run out sooner or later. We know the Vikes aren’t going undefeated. The percentages will nick them at some point.

No one has to worry about being a traitor this week. Bye week, baby! Which Viking will embarrass the organization this time?

I’m going with Reichard. He’s going to get arrested for soliciting a hooker while tripping on LSD. He seems the type…

I really wanted to pick the Bucs, but I wussed out when I saw that Mayfield’s backup is not only a rookie, but an undrafted one at that. I saw one place allude to that and didn’t fact-check. I just switched my pick to the cowgirls.

I might stay lukewarm. Once I got out of the back of the pack I went conservative, picking mostly favorites. We’ll see. I might get whacky one of these weeks and plummet to the bottom.

A.) I’ve been making my picks from the woods so they’ll probably go downhill when I have nothing left to chase for the year. Lucky for me that’ll probably be in January when the last session closes.

B.) Start the pan before mixing your ingredients on your pancakes. Unless you’re cheating and using boxed mix (YUCK) that gets the pan about right. Side note, if you want the second side to look as nice as the first side, move your spatula around underneath the pancake until the bubbles are all gone before flipping it.

Then since we will be close to my cousins house, we are going to go out to eat lunch with her. I don’t expect to get home until the late games start. I haven’t looked at the schedule, but I suppose since the Packers are playing Dallas that will be a late game. Yuck. If that is the only game on, I will watch it but I won’t enjoy it. This is where we need NLNVF to bring up a topic unrelated to football to stir us up. I just hope he is doing ok after the passing of his sister.

Looking at NFL standings, is the NFCN the strongest division in football? Or does the NFCW take the crown? I dont think the Vikes are better than SF…..yet. but i dont see any North team as bad as the Cardinals. Bears might be better than the Seachickens, once Williams is back.
