Minnesota Vikings Discussion: Skoloholics – 9/28/2026 – Victory Monday.

Screenshot

Welcome to the third straight victory Monday. It’s a good thing we keep winning, Daunte Moore’s future isn’t looking to good. Hopefully, he will make a full recovery. I know I’m in the minority, but after watching Murray, I think it is time to put JJ in and see what he can do. Both Wentz and Murray have struggled with accuracy and have put our receivers in tough spots.

I am confused, if all teams suck once the Vikings beat them then why are the Bores beating undefeated Filthadelpia 20-7??

Flores is simply out coaching the opposing OC. They all know what he will do, they just dont know how he will do it. Our offense has the opposite issue. The opposing DC know exactly how we will operate.

Still 7-0 Bores, then both teams got inside the 5 and came up with nada.
Bores turned over on downs and Dalton threw an Int for Filthy.

The same Case Keenum that took the vikes to an NFC championship game. He went 11-3 that year, 2017, after Bradford went down. Minneapolis miracle. Fun year until the Philly beat us. He’s average, but a baller. Wonder what could have been if we’d stuck with him and built up our team a little more with the money that we gave kirky instead.

Nah, Murray is just gonna throw it low enough that Jets has to duck to catch it and go head to head with a defender, knock himself out and then he’ll get 2 extra weeks to heal the ankle.

MT Viking

I can get on board with that…I just don’t know if Murray can throw a low ball as even a shoe between him and the receiver is too high for him to throw a flat trajectory (“1” ball as Tom Brady calls it).

Seems to feel good about KOC’s rejects.

Somebody needs to inform this guy that those were KAM’s decisions. He didn’t want to pay the QB anything but minimum wage. JJM was also KAM’s decision. So he’s thinking wrong. KAM is 0-5 on QB decisions (Cousins, Darnold, Jones, McCarthy, and Sam Howell). He may be the single dumbest GM ever.

ppb, we came back from GJ, CO via the Rifle – Rawlins – Casper – Billings route. Much less scenic than the drive down but my wife was much happier.

On the way down to Moab we went through the Wind River and Big Horn ranges and south of Rock Springs took some very scenic and very twisty routes along the Green River and through Vernal. We were somewhere in the far western reaches of Colorado when my wife. lost. it. big. time. From battleship salvoes to (you guessed it) silent treatment. I kept pleading that it was Googly maps leading us on the route, to no avail. Where is a road atlas when you need it.

We were pulling into Billings after the 666 mile trip, and on the very last mile saw a spectacular road rage incident unfold behind, around, and in front of us. Road rager 1 escaped but road rager 2 slammed into the back of a minivan going about 80 in the left lane while the flow of traffic was about 60. Apparently I shrieked like a little girl but we were unscathed.

MT Viking

28 September 2026 2:41 pm

No, it would be too long a story, but suffice to say that traffic exiting at the King Ave exit was backed up to the prior exit because of a multiple vehicle accident on the overpass…which meant many more vehicles were proceeding to the Zoo exit. When I came over the I-94 overpass of King I could see traffic backed up at the Zoo exit two miles ahead, so I slowed down and slotted into the right lane. When the crash happened both the minivan and pickup pushed into the median, and both drivers were jawing away as I went by. There must have been 150 cars in that one mile stretch and I myself had gone halfway into the ditch as a semi was erk erk erking up behind me as traffic rapidly braked to a halt. I wasn’t going to stick around in that heavy traffic with people flying over the overpass at 70.

Was just funny that it happened right at (virtually) journey’s end. By comparison, the drive home to GDV the next day was a walk in the park. I was content to let the truck drive itself (it has that BlueCruise option) but when road rager #2 tried to overtake #1 by cutting into my lane I was sure he was going to slam into my bumper, his hood dropped and started bouncing as he locked up the brakes with them big ol’ off road tires, but he jerked back into the left lane just in the nick of time to slam into the minivan about ten car lengths ahead of me. Blue Cruise was chirping about him coming up fast behind me and I was thinking I dare not hit the gas (hitting the car in front of me) or hitting the brake, so I just sorta rested my foot on the brake pedal and veered into the shoulder, while screaming like a little girl I guess.

I’m not hateful or spiteful by nature. I’m stubborn though. Folks have talked a LOT of smack to me here about QB’s. I maintain I am right about Cousins and McCarthy. JJM can’t hold a candle to Cousins, and never will. The Achilles injury in 2023 was pretty sad. He was leading the league in passing TD’s with 18 through 8 games, and 2nd in passing yards. I think we could have won out, and made it to the Super Bowl that year.

So not only did the Vikings trade the #10 overall draft pick for a 5th rounder but they had traded up to #10 to get him in 2024. So he cost us a 1st rounder, #11, but also the #129, 4th round, and #159, a 5th round pick to get JJ (QB).
I get trading him if you are sure he won’t work out, I do. But given our current QB situation now and in 2027 they had to be damn sure.
Seems like more than a KAM screwup, it seems an entire organization worth of screw ups.

This will take awhile to get my head around. “Hope for the best but expect the worst’ indeed.

I never saw NFL caliber play from JJM. Ever. He made some plays once in a while. But he’s a slow processor and he can’t make all the pro throws. KOC told him last year what he needed to improve on in the offseason. He came back this year still unable to make the required NFL level throws. You can’t make him better than what he is. Harbaugh wants a run heavy offense. If the QB can run, he’s good with it. We’ll see if JJM ever starts again though.

I imagine Kubiak wants to win as many games as possible in his first year, even if that’s only 5 or 6. Mendoza can’t run an NFL offense the way Cousins can. He doesn’t know NFL defenses the way Cousins does either. In short, Kubiak knows who the best QB on the team is and it isn’t Mendoza by a wide margin. Do you seriously believe Kubiak is going to trade away the team leader, and the one guy who knows what he’s doing in his offense, if they lose their next two games? That “what if” supposition is Mularkey. Just Bow being ridiculous in the extreme. Then of course saying he was joking after I pointed out how absurd his comment was.

I have to say, it seems like Kirk wasn’t the answer here, primarily due to contract/price constraints. That being said, I much more enjoyed watching him play than what we’ve seen over the past couple years. And I felt like the offense had the potential to at least keep up with the higher scoring teams, whereas I’m not so sure this offense really could.

Per an article I read on CBS, they gave the Vikings a B+ for the trade. Their take is that we got something for him was a plus as they figured he had no trade value. Plus it cleans out the tension in the qb room.

Someone recently said to me, “weird how everyone on that 2023 Michigan national championship team is terrible in the nfl (jj, harbaugh, etc), with the exception of blake corum”. To be fair, there is a small sample size with the michigan players in the nfl, but something tells me that the cheating that Michigan did that year did gain quite the advantage.

I think the jj trade works out for both camps in the long run. JJ gets a fresh start, and the Vikings don’t have to waste time pretending he’s the qbotf.

With that said, Murray has 2 weeks to show he can run the offense efficiently and at the very least get in the red zone. If he can’t do it against the Dolphins or Saints, KOC should switch to Wentz.

Vikes only get 17 guaranteed games a year. Only 17 times a year I’m guaranteed to watch my favorite team play my favorite sport. Football, in all forms (no, not soccer) is life in my house. No kids, no outside commitments. Nothing but football. It’s my favorite thing.

Have no idea as Miami does. no exactly have the Vikings defense.
But I really wonder about this QB situation.
Thinking back, both Cousins/Darnold could run this offense, And this gives me pause – so could Nick Mullins. He may have has a weaker arm which caused some INT’s, but he could run KOC’s offense. And, he could get the ball to Jefferson.
What is wrong with these guys. If Mullins could do it, why can ‘t they?

One of the biggest knocks on Murray has been his inability to learn even an average offense, mostly because of his work ethic. He’s the only player that I know of in the history of the NFL to have his team write a minimum hours per week of studying the playbook into his contract.

JJ hasn’t even played a full season and there seems to be higher expectations for him than guys with 10 years experience. Look how bad Drake Maye looks this year. JJ is only 23. He needs a chance. He could very well fail, and I fully expect him not to get that chance here, but there is potential there at least. It’s going to suck even more when they just move on from JJ, over pay a mediocre Murray and then we get to watch JJ succeed somewhere else while Murray continues to be the player he’s always been.

I agree with what you say BowB. But, as much as I have always disliked Murray as a QB, we do have to give him more than one game, But what we saw in that one game was bad. My question is: If the Murray we saw Sunday is the Murray we get, when do we pull the trigger on the change?

Doesn’t matter anymore. The Vikings will be just good enough to get into the playoffs and lose and then they will give Murray $50 mill plus and mire in mediocrity for another 5+ years minimum.

Good question. I am going to stay away from numbers and focus more on his approach. He has to show some confidence. He looked afraid all of Sunday. He was jittery in the pocket and indecisive. The great scrambling was almost non-existent. So I would like to see:

  1. Move in the pocket, rollout, a QB draw, something to use the legs
  2. Quicker decisions. Drop back, look, throw. Sounds easier to write than do, but he is making the big bucks to do that
  3. Accuracy. JJM over threw most balls, KM is under throwing
  4. Sustained drives. I dont care if it is on the ground with Jones, KM scrambling, passes to WR or quick outs to TEs. We need to give the Defense a bit of a breather sometime this season. Lets start this weekend

I can be a patient man (ask my wife, well ok, dont ask HER), but one more outing like yesterday and I will be calling KOC and telling him to play JJM

I wouldn’t consider him starter from whatever here on out is until he’s demonstrated he can run the offense, right now he still seems hesitant and unsure. Might be a bit premature for benching unless he actually looks worse.

I admit, the defense is looking good, but I still don’t think we’ve played a great offensive team and been challenged all that much (Chicago in the rain doesn’t count IMO). A win is a win and leading the division is darn good.
No doubt defense is carrying team which is a little strange for an offensive minded HC.
Now I’m no expert, and everyone can see the offense is struggling, but at the most basic level it just looks out of sync or the timing is off.
Realize Murray is short, but the way our oline is getting knocked back into the pocket, Wilt Chamberlain would be getting passes knocked down. Maybe roll him ot some, but that’s why KOC gets paid the big bcks to figure out.
Still, 3-0 and playing rather poorly on one side of ball is quite good.

We are supposed to have elite receivers with an excellent offensive scheme for passing and the Bucs secondary is not all that good – so, were the receivers open and Murray didn’t see them. or were they well covered?
Second question – timing? Most all passing plays are designed. with 3, 5. 7 step drops and are designed with according routes. At least to me, the timing looks way off most of the time. What do you think?

Mayhaps Murray didn’t do his homework/is still figuring out KOCs offense/passing scheme. It is notoriously difficult and Murray is a notoriously bad student.
That could explain him sitting in the pocket, watching the receivers and defense and trying to figure it all out on the fly.

peterplaysbass

Justin Jefferson’s absence probably threw a lot off. Suddenly Addison is playing Jefferson’s role, and Jennings is doing Addison’s thing, and Price is the WR3.

Still though. Murray needs to be able to punish other teams with the receivers and tight ends we have.

According to Ben Leber, that wasn’t how they played it. He says they left Addison playing his own position, and Felton took over Jefferson’s routes.

With a full week of practice they will move Addison to JJ’s role.

A, Murray is too short to see over the line.
B. The timing of a 3 step drop for a midget is different than the timing of a normal height person. Just like how my 5 foot tall wife has to take more steps when we go hiking than I do at 6’5″.

There’s also the fact that Arizona, a crappy team, decided that Murray was not good enough and they would rather take a massive cap hit than have him on their team. That should have been hint #1.

Isn’t being a crappy team partly the result of making crappy decisions? LOL.

I get that this was his first FULL game in the system, a game where he suddenly lost his primary WR, but that excuse only goes so far.

There have been comments that Murray is living on the sidelines because he can’t see targets between the hash marks unless they’re 15+ yards down the field. That makes him more predictable and our WRs easier to cover.

I would rather see Wentz or JJ than Murray again.

Wentz is probably our best QB. I think we would have done a little better with him yesterday. You loose mobility, but I think he would have been a little more accurate and not had so many batted balls.

The offense looks awful. I keep saying it, but I feel like other Vikes fans call me crazy for it: KOC is the most overrated offensive mind in the game. He could be a good HC, but he needs to get over himself and get a good OC to run the offense.

And everyone else gives him so many excuses. Yesterday’s excuses I’ve heard already:

–Jets was injured. (You still have Addison and Jennings and Hock. You gotta figure it out.)

–Murray is still getting the rust off. (He had all of camp to get up to speed. And if there was rust, then play him in the pre-season….that’s literally what it’s for.)

–Murray was still foggy in his mind recovering from the concussion. (Then he shouldn’t be playing QB in the NFL yet.)

–Murray was just indecisive. (Same issue with Sam Darnold, JJM, Wentz, Brosmer….seems like an offensive system problem. Maybe make it less fluid and reactive and more decisive.)

–We won. Be happy about it. (We barely escaped……again. The offense looked terrible…..again. It needs to be fixed.)

I think KOC needs to let somebody else run the offense. I think he is a good motivator and can be a good HC, but trying to run the team and the offense might just be too much. And for all the clamoring for Flores to take over, I have a wonder in my gut if he might be the opposite.

I know I’m in the minority, but KOC sucks. That game was won by a combo of two coaches who had their respective parts of the team ready to go, and I think we all know who those coaches were. Meanwhile, the “QB whisperer” has whispered a ton of sweet nothings into their ears. Murray looked like the proverbial college QB throwing up a wing and a prayer, almost universally far off target.

The last two games go down as one of the worst 1-2 punches I have ever seen the Vikings put on the field. More penalties than rushing yards. Puke.
