Skoloholics Pick ‘Em League Update #3
Pick ‘Em League is stupid, and I hate it. I checked scores on Sunday and all looked good. I was on my way to nailing it. I already planned how I would spend all of my points on a Kirk Cousins jersey. Then I checked later, and all the games I had in the bag ended with the wrong team winning. Maybe next week I can ensconce myself in Kirkness…
The humble JacksonVike continues to hold the number one position. He’s gone from worst to first compared to last season. This kind of improvement is suspect. I don’t want to start rumors, but I’m also thinking performance enhancers. Once a guy gets that first taste of Viagra, they want more.
Mjolnir is only four points behind in second place. I think this is his first year, so we won’t chalk the performance up to “vitamins.” I think what we have here is a much more simple case of possible witchcraft.
Bowbunch and peterplaysbass are neck-and-neck in third and fourth place. Only two points separate them. Both of them erupted up from the bottom of the pack. Since they started out bad and got good, their performance is also suspicious. If it is not drugs or witchcraft, what else is left? We can only surmise they made a deal with the Green Bay Packers at a crossroad at midnight. The amount of cheese exchanged must have been astronomical. I hope it was worth it to them.
Me and PA are in a perfectly mediocre position. We are in striking distance of the bottom podium position, but we keep sucking too much.
Meanwhile, Surly is picking games correctly like a modern-day Nostradamus. Unfortunately, he is assigning confidence points like a drunken whore governor assigning taxpayer funds to honest organizations. Which is to say, poorly.

We only had one Iconoclast Pick, which also doubles as the only Traitor Pick. DE took the Bucs to beat the Vikes. I was very close to taking the Bucs myself. We traditionally have issues in Tampa Bay. Plus, it was 84 degrees. Plus, Vikes. But I abstained.
Biggest surprise of the week for me was the Bears murdering the Eagles. I guess the demise of the Bears is exaggerated. Oh well, it was fun to see Case Keenum again.

I figured since it was braggadocious week, I better get in on the brag.
When my son was a freshman, he played in a basketball tournament. It was called the great state tournament. You had to qualify by winning a regional and then be top two in the state tourny. Then the big tournament was the top two teams from Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin.
Every year on the night before the tournament, all of the teams and their coaches had a dinner to meet each other. There was a team from Waterloo IA, and when the coach went to introduce the team, he said we’re hear to beat Pelle IA, we’re kind of a big deal.
I dated a girl for a little bit who was a local news anchor for a short time. I also met Todd Baumann, Bob Lertsema, and one other Vikings player that I don’t remember. Oh, and I also work for somebody who owns a rocket company.
I coached my daughters softball team and got to go against Todd Baumann’s brother. He was a great high school softball coach. I believe he coaches at St Cloud State now.

When he told me that he was getting out of the Army to try Pro Bowling I tried to talk him out of it, he was a fine soldier and a good guy.

It took exactly one drive to see how much better Keenum is compared to Murray. Guy hadn’t played in a game since 2023 and came out slinging it.
You ever feel like in these situations the offense is a bit simplified for the backup to start BUT that just allows them to just play the game at a faster pace and just go out there an play the game? How many times have we seen a backup come in, they look great then the next week, not so much. I know the other side of that is the defense gets to scheme for that backup now.
Was reading a piece this morning that made some sense, to me anyway.
It was saying Johnson used his basic concepts, but altered plays and schemes to play to Keenum’s strengths and what he could do.
Watching last Sunday’s game, seems our offense is made for guys like Darnold,Cousins, even Wentz, but not so much for guys like JJ and Murray.
Murray just looks like a fish out of water standing in the pocket with all those huge guys around him. Damn, can’t KOC adjust some and get him moving around.
And to me that’s on the Coach. Quit trying to put a square peg in a round hole. Look what happens when you taylor it to who you have. Or if your system is so rigid it can’t work outside of that style of QB then make damn sure you have that style of QB or… adjust the system.

I really think mentality plays a big part. Guys like Keenum and Favre just see the field differently and have more of a “throw the ball downfield” attitude.

Kirko playing well for the Raiders. Some folks point out that Kyler’s bad, bad game on Sunday is a statistical anomaly compared to his historical performances and that he will certainly play better in the upcoming games.
I was at the game, I think he probably looked worse in person. HE IS SOO SHORT. He looked rattled and indecisive. I am skeptical that he will play better.

it’s funny, my kids, who have really gotten into football this year which is super fun, were complaining about “KYLER MURRAY IS TERRIBLE DAD WHAT ON EARTH” and i was like guys he has been playing in the NFL for like 7 years, so he isn’t a rookie. and they couldn’t believe it. and i was telling them that he actually has had decently good stats before and they just refused to believe me. they were like he basically has to jump to pass the ball hes tiny! he is so bad dad!

Pup had to have surgery yesterday and wasn’t waking up very good so had to spend the night at the vet. Just waiting on a phone call now to see if he made it through the night.

Older dogs have more trouble with the anesthesia and getting through it. Hope it’s just that and he will make a full recovery.
Not that I’m an expert, but my daughter is a Vet and she was just telling me Sunday her huskie had a procedure and it took him two days to get over the anesthesia.
He’s 5, but he ate something that got stuck (velcro). Puked some out and started getting better so the vet didn’t do x rays. Apparently the part left got stuck over the weekend so when they did surgery he was in pretty rough shape. I’ve been dreading this since I complained about him constantly eating my wife and kids’ socks and MT warned me about this. It’s been a long weekend and was a long night. Any minute now I either get a really good call or a really bad one.
I feel that. This is me when my dog(s) are sick and I take them to the vet

Understand. We actually had a lab that ate a women’s stocking that blocked his intestine and he had a similar operation. It was tough but he made it thru it.
And later, he still ate everything regardless.
I fully expect of he recovers nothing will change but I’m worried the weekend timing may have may it too bad. Doc said the intestines were irritated but not necrotic but he was pretty dehydrated I guess too. Hopefully the iv fluids helped him push the rest of the anesthesia drugs out over night. Not sure if it’s good or bad that they haven’t called yet and they opened 20 minutes ago.
Dumb Labs, they just eat shit. Bubba will get overzealous on a stick from time to time and can sense me sneaking up on him to wallop him (with the stick). Fortunately he has had zero GI issues. Our first choco, Tuck, ate rocks, broke two teeth, had so many episodes of emesis I felt like I was on call living with him, I got woke up so many times by his pleading eyes staring at me to go out. I think Tuck was a genetic nightmare. Bubba has had no health problems so far (knock on wood).

My lab ate the top of my leather work boot. Cowboy boot style, brand new, he shit leather for a couple of days, but had no issues with it. He ate from the top down to where the top of the foot is.

Indiana Bears have a better coach than we do, and Keenum and Bagent would both be huge upgrades to our QB room.
Instead, either in order to not hurt Murrays feelings, or just to be completely dishonest about JJ and his ability (and coaches inability to develop him) they dump him for nothing and now we will get to see Brosmer at some point this year.
