Question of the Day. Who is/are the starting D tackles week 1?
Bonus question, what is your favorite Star Wars movie?
Re-watching the Vikings vs the Bills game from 2022. Bills were dominating us and took the lead 27-10 with just under two minutes left in the 3rd quarter. It looked bad, bad, bad, for the Vikings. Then, after the kick-off, the Vikings had the ball at their own 24, with 1:46 left in the 3rd. Cousins takes the snap, turns to his left, and hands the ball off to Dalvin Cook, who runs 76 yards for a TD! Suddenly we’re only 10 points back, instead of 17, and the 4th quarter for the ages, and eventually an overtime win, unfolds. Maybe the most exciting finish to a game I’ve ever seen.
Don’t remember what I was doing but I started watching that game just as we went down 27-10. I didn’t pretty much figured that the game was over at that point.
Just another example of when I was glad to be wrong.
RE: the Cinco de Mayo discussion below.
We went out to eat today and as we were seated we were handed a menu that had 3 pages of alcoholic beverages. It was the Cinco de Mayo menu. So yes, it has just become another excuse to intake excessive amounts of alcohol as a “celebration.” I politely gave the waitress back the menu and ordered a lemonade.
We routinely refused the ‘drink menu’ although The Teacher will occasionally get a cocktail if she is in the mood.
FJB
Seconded
3rded.
I very much like the McCarthy and Turner picks in the first round of this years draft. Two players I think will be very good for years to come. I never did the math though, for everything the Vikings gave up to get those two players. Fortunately, someone else did:
The Vikings Got:
J.J. McCarthy
Dallas Turner
6th-Rounder (2024) K Will Reichard, Alabama
7th-Rounder (2024) DL Levi Drake Rodriguez, Texas A&M University Comm.
The Vikings Gave:
No. 11
2nd-Rounder (2024)
2nd-Rounder (2025)
3rd-Rounder (2025)
4th-Rounder (2024)
4th-Rounder (2025)
5th-Rounder (2024)
5th-Rounder (2024)
6th-Rounder (2024)
they gave 11 for 10
they gave 23 for 17
not sure why they gave 11 in this scenario. That’s wrong
Yeah. They gave up #11 and other picks to get #10, to get McCarthy. They gave up #23 and other picks to get to #17 for Turner. I don’t rememberize what we gave up to get #23, and I don’t know if those picks are included in the math either.
They are,
Totals cost for #23 then #17 and #10.
That ‘2nd Rounder 2024’ was our #42 we gave up for #23.
Don’t know enough to know it was good for the players we got but KAM supposedly considered taking Turner at #11 and then working out QBOTF later. Sounds like a ‘2 top 10 projected haul’ = quality not quantity.
Thanks SoCal!
I am thinking that if we were willing to give up 3 #1s plus extras for Maye 3 #1s for JJ and Turner is not unreasonable.
Are you asking if this is a good deal or not?
To.me, won’t know about two players until see them on an NFL field playing against quality competition.
Now what they gave up etc, if these guys to turn out to be really good, then it was a great deal. If they don’t pan out, that’s another matter.
Correct.
Rich Hill trade chart says Vikings got 674 and gave up 953.
Difference of 279 points which equates to the value of the #19th pick in round 1.
I wasn’t making a point or anything. I was just trying to figure out the math associated with the draft selections. DE made some good points on what was captured by the author of the data, and I don’t know if it’s a good tally or not. It looks to me like we “gave up” the equivalent of nine players to get four. Two of which could be long term starters, and two of which might never even play a snap for the Vikings. Is that how this looks to you?
I am the last to talk about GM type stuff. Just say, to me, if JJ turns out to be a second Mahomes he’d be worth three 1’s, maybe more. If he’s a Trey Lance, then he wasn’t even worth a first.
In short, in my idosyncrastic way, how the players perform on the field will determine whether the deal is good or not.
Also seem to me, 2 for 4, or 3 for 8, whatever, goes right out the door when dealing with ‘human’ commodities.
Also, recently read on hear some thought like a first round selection has a hit rate of 40% (whatever).
Problem is. this isn’t dice – like chance of rolling a seven is like 17% if I remember correctly. And it is exactly 17 % every time you roll.
When deal with the ‘human’ variable, numbers become a really big swag.
Yep… that hit average is over a long time, so one would think it’s a somewhat solid rate to work with, but it boils down to the individual players selected. I think McCarthy and Turner could be really good, but McCarthy is no Mahomes and never will be. To me, he looks like a very good, not great QB in the making. That is just my opinion of course. Turner could be very good too. But we don’t know till they hit the field what we have. As an example of that, most people thought Cine would be a day one star in the NFL.
Sausage streak over.
Well, give me Wolves up 2-0 away from home.
I’ve been very surprised with the Wolves.
When they were up early yesterday, I figured they would blow the lead, and they did. Went to bed and they won.
Maybe they are good enough to get to the finals.
Twinks down. Botched 1st may cost them.
Grrr
Twinkies got the bases loaded with no one out.
Then managed two strikeouts and a groundout.
Guess it’s better than three up three down.
Pathetic.
Oh boy.

Going out for round #2 this year….20+ mph wind so I have a built in excuse if I suck.
I normally wouldn’t play in this but too much traveling so I kind of have to take what I can get.
Seems poetic to suck in 20+ mph wind.
Although 20 mph here is considered a light breeze.
Have fun, and just try to keep it play. Golf is a game… we “play” golf. Don’t take it too seriously. It’s recreation, not work.
Told my wife I wanted fried chicken for lunch. She ordered Popeyes…
Popeyes delivers?
Or did you do some Grubhub type service?
I don’t trust my food to those Tweaker Types that get upset if you don’t tip them enough.
I think she used GrubHub. I just laughed though, because when she asked what I wanted, and I told her, she was like “got it”. I thought that meant she would be making fried chicken. Next thing I know, she’s like, OK, I ordered for you.
She is a keeper!!
Totally agree.
Can’t top fried chicken but wife just make me six sunny side eggs with four strips of bacon. Little fruit on the side, feel like Rocky now.
That’s really awesome JR. I don’t think I could eat six eggs anymore, but love the menu. It’s great to be married to someone who can, and will, cook.
Love fried chicken!
Seemed like when growing up we had fried chicken every Sunday for like 10 years.
Actually, I don’t find eggs very filling at all. Now. a pound of fried potatoes with is another matter.
It is good to have a wife that loves to cook.
Told The Teacher about a grandfather giving his GS advice about women.
“A man needs a woman with a good job, a woman with a sense of humor, a woman who can cook. But most importantly is those 3 ladies should never meet each other.”
She said ‘well I have a sense of humor and a good job’. I replied, ‘you can cook you just choose not to’.
She has issues from growing up as the only daughter who was required to make the family meals on weekdays.
Laughing, I’ve heard that joke a few times. My wife likes being domestic, if you will. She has a Bachelor’s from Texas A&M in biology, a Masters in Marine Science from Texas, and was actually working for the University of South Florida doing cancer research when I met her. After all that, she ended up being a competitive bodybuilder and personal trainer.
Now, she’s “retired” and just takes care of me, the cats, and the house.
Sounds like an Accomplished Lady.
The Teacher got into the habit of fast food once her kids moved out. She has had her ‘family favorites she makes occasionally but she plans to get more adventurous with cooking once she has the time.
Not much of a Popeyes fan, kfc better
Saw an interesting stat….Neither the Twins nor the Timberwolves have lost a game since the Vikings drafted JJ…That’s some higher tier leadership right there. Even Kirk couldn’t affect the other sports teams…
Laughing… obviously JJ is a God, and he will set the record book on fire. He’ll throw for over 5,000 yards and 50 TD’s this year, at this rate.
Good thing we didn’t get that Loser Maye.
Timberwolves/Twinkies would have lost for sure if we had.
Then JJ needs to be getting some big checks from the Twins and Timberwolves.
For those interested in the country direction discussion below. A book you might find interesting.
A management consultant, Lawrence Miller, wrote a book in mid eighties called “Barbarians to Bureacrats; Corporate life Cycles.”
The book talks about companies and the various phases they go through. But it is based on civilizations (countries) and their life cycles. For example, starting with strong phrophet like individuals, barbarians, and ultimately to the bureacratic stages and decline.
Interesting read both from a business perspective and a view of civilizations decline.
Variation of
“Hard times create strong men, strong men create good times, good times create weak men, and weak men create hard times.”
Sounds like. Especially if they don’t survive one of the ‘hard times’.
It’s really a lot more than that. There really is a need for admin/bureacrat types – you need roads, rules (laws) to make societies more livable.
The problems begin as bureacrats become more entrenched trying to keep making things better and better (while also entrenching themselves). Problem is as central business (government) becomes more powerful less power to the individual (bussines – stymies creativity).
It quickly gets too complicated for the likes of me.
I understand Atrophy and each iteration being less effective/robust then the last one.
I try not to complicate it with too many more facts or too much understanding than that.
I’m not expressing this well – it’s actually a simplification.
Maybe – as a government establishes a rule with good intentions that does make life in society better, there is more than not a long term consequence that is detrimental to such things as individualism or self reliance.
Agreed, that sounds like Atrophy to me.
For example Nampa (where we are moving) has been rated best run city in the US 7 years in a row now. Talking to the Mayor she was focused on continuing that trend as best she could.
Part of that was self preservation yes, but part was good people doing what they believed was best for the population as a whole. How long it can resist Atrophy remains to be seen.
Not sure if this is relevant to your point but I wanted to get that in there as I am a simple man.
Simple is always good.
Like the example.
Hopefully this stuff comes snd goes. Reagan came along and made a big difference.
One of the concluding points of the book – get the right leader to get the train back on the tracks.
Keeping the train on the track requires constant effort.
Going back to the ‘Strong Men’ quote, that effort will not always be there.
TLDR, I agree.
One must nourish and tend the garden everyday – relentlessly.
Great book JR. Should be required reading for our young.
I guess the next big news for the NFL as we move through the start of the 2024 season, is the posting of the official schedule. This always occurs in May, but no one knows exactly which day it will occur. For what it’s worth, the 2023 schedule was released on May 11 of last year. We know “who” we’re playing, and “where”, now we just need to know “when”.
Not a big deal for me, no games close to Idaho and will be too busy settling for any long trips.
Here I could manage a Rams or Charger game if I wanted easily, or a trip to Vegas or SF has been done before.
Heck even Arizona could be managed for a weekend.
I’m kind of wondering if the NFL will schedule the Vikings vs the Falcons game the first week.
Sunday or Monday night maybe?
Yeah, the first MNF game of the season!
Think we would do better if it were later in the year.
Figure Atlanta will adjust to quicker to their new QB faster than we will.
Unless Voldemort isn’t ready week one and Darnold surprises before the league adjusts to him.
Honestly the first four weeks of the season are a crapshoot. Teams don’t have film on other teams, so preparing for them, and game planning, is a nebulous task at best. No one knows what the Vikings will look like this year, and honestly, with a new head coach, new OC, and a new DC, no one has any idea what the Falcons will look like.
Well according to ‘The Narrative’ we know that Atlanta’s QB will crap his pants on MNF. It is nice to have that going for us.
#sarcasm
Oh yeah, if we face the Falcons on MNF we’ll beat them 38-0.
#sarcasm
’38 – 0′?
That would be bad enough to start calls for his little Penix to get some playing time.
The media’s negative narrative on Cousins will have that discussion start almost immediately. It’s a stupid thing to think Penix would be able to play the position in the NFL better than Cousins, but the pillocks will be calling for that from the start.
Fans are going to fan.
Nice of them to add so much fuel to that fire.
Just wait until Darnold throws a few INT’s.
Then they can put Mullins in then.
@He sure will fix that problem!!@
Just one slight but important difference. Atlanta has an established NFL calibre QB on their roster and we are yet to know if we have one or not.
KOC got Dobby to look serviceable for a couple of games, suspect he could do they same with Darnold given a full offseason to work with.
#nojinx
Believe he actually got two good halves out of Dobby.
Still, I have high hopes for Darnold, but haven’t seen it yet.
I have High Hopes for him as well.
Low expectations but high hopes.
We’ve been told that a new OC and new coach is too hard for Kirko to adjust to.
Guess we will see.
As usual, you misstate the facts in regards to Cousins DE. No one has ever made that comment. The actual comment is, Cousins has been immensely successful despite having a different OC almost every year of his career. That is a true and accurate statement. Cousins may have the NFL record for serving under the most rookie OC’s in a career, as well.
Read he’s the 12th best QB in league. Didn’t click on it so don’t know how they figured.
Well, I’m a “the proof of the pudding is in the eating” kind of guy. Through his last full year (2022) of playing as a starter, only three QB’s threw more TD’s than Cousins. That’s the facts Jack. Cousins has produced at a higher level than all but three guys in the league, since he became a starter in 2015.
I’d consider him top 6 or 7 easy.
Really? Since 2015, Kirk Cousins has the most passing yards by an NFL quarterback, with 36,441 yards. Most in the league.
Also just checked, and now, since 2015, only Tom Brady and Russell Wilson have thrown more TD passes than Cousins. I’d call that prolific.
Think most people forget playing behind crap oline.
Thats been a running excuse for six years.
Only in your jaded mind DE. Cousins is the most prolific QB in Vikings history, so there are no excuses. None, zero, zip.
I believe the Vikings play in Seattle if you are interested.
Not this year and not Seattle.
Too woke for my blood.
Happy Cinco De Mayo! Cinco De Mayo’s deeply rooted history in the Franco-Mexican War influenced Mexican-Mexican American communities in the early years of the American Civil War. In the early 1860s, as the Civil War erupted, these communities took up the banner of the Cinco De Mayo celebration as a way to commemorate the cause of freedom and democracy. Today, in the United States, Americans celebrate Mexican-American heritage and pride annually on May 5th.
Perhaps from growing up in midwest and later decades in DC, neither. of which have (had) large Mexican communities, never heard about Cinco De Mayo for most all of my life.
Most people don’t realize that the Franco-Mexican War was about freedom and democracy. Americans today are being programmed to believe Socialism means equality, and it’s better than Capitalism. That’s balderdash. Socialism takes away freedom and gives all power to the Government. First thing a tyrannical Government needs to do is disarm the populace. Outlaw guns. Then the populace is powerless. It’s simple math of course, but too deep for the young people to grasp.
I agree with everything you say!
As an American I would rather celebrate VE or VJ day – both are really important and receive so little attention.
And for me, celebrating any date that demonstrates ‘American’s Greatness’ is much needed.
The liberals insist we celebrate “gender choice” and people who are confused about their sexuality. That’s ridiculous. You celebrate hero’s who fought for our Nation. You celebrate the people who established this country, and the events that were critical to making us great. You celebrate victories over tyranny.
One group of people (us) see American as a great country and are proud of that. Another group (liberals et all) see us as a flawed country that only got to its position in the world by ‘dishonest’ means.
Our great founding fathers are now merely ‘flawed men.’
Every person is flawed, every country is flawed because they are populated by flawed people.
Better question is are the better than they were and are they trying to be better? Some yes and some no.
Compared to history the world is a better place (cities sacked its entire population killed or enslaved used to be the norm), hope it keeps trending so.
Not sure what the debate is.
Of course all men are flawed as are all countries to varying degrees.
My thinking is simply are we are great country and build on that moving forward to make things even better versus a fundamentally flawed country that needs to proceed forward working from that base.
I have lived in a few countries while playing Army, read about quite a few more.
Some are ok, some less so, I wouldn’t want to life anywhere else than America given a choice.
I think the debate is partly a glass half full or empty type of thing. There are negatives if you want to concentrate on those but more positives as well.
It’s really simple. You cannot take over a country everyone feels is rock solid, and emphasizes the qualities and tenets the populace wants. No, you must villainize that country’s history to create dissent in the masses, as well as discord. The masses have to hate a country, to support change. Politicians know that they can only garner more power, by taking it away from the people. To do that they have to get the people to reject the tenets the forefathers (who lived under true tyranny) established and everything we have fought for over the course of our history. The liberals trying to destroy this country, are only motivated by growing their power, and lessening our’s by all the dissent they are sowing.
There are some like Soros and Obama that believe their version of American is better, mostly because it gives them and their friends more power.
Problem is they don’t see the harm in running over the majority of the people to get what they want, i.e. EV push, open borders, etc.
I kinda disagree with that SoCal. They know exactly the harm they’re doing. It’s called “the ends justifying the means”.
Don’t see the difference to what I said.
They want what they want, think it is ok to go after it, doesn’t matter who it hurts along the way.
OK SoCal, the way you phrased it sounded like they were unaware of the harm they are doing to others.
“Problem is they don’t see the harm in running over the majority of the people to get what they want, i.e. EV push, open borders, etc”
‘Problem is they don’t see the harm in running over the majority of the people to get what they want’
I meant that they didn’t see the problem with harming people, not that they were unaware that they were harming people.
Could have phrased it better I suppose.
Got it… agree with you.
You agree that I could have phrased it better?
How thoughtful of you.
#grin
Laughing… no I agree they don’t see the harm in hurting others to get their way.
Guess I could have phrased it better…
‘Guess I could have phrased it better…’
Copycat.
The Karl Marx playbook.
Indeed
Anti-semitics occupying and vandalizing property asking for food and water. Unlike Jan 6 nothing will happen to these people. Country is quickly becoming a joke.
When the Democrats were able to successfully stuff ballot boxes around the country to elect Joe Biden (no way he got 81 million votes) we turned a corner in this country. We are in danger of becoming a “Banana Republic” for sure.
The Protesters from ASU sued saying that being suspended was ‘cruel and unusual punishment’ and it violated their 1st Amendment Rights,
Judge told them to ‘pound sand’, there are still good places in this country away from the Media Centers along the coasts.
Thank God the judge wasn’t from New York
Or LA/SF.
Actually either left or right coast.
South seems more immune to it.
My mothers maiden name was Villa, lots of Mexican-American/Chicano/Californianos family. Cico De Mayo growing up was not a big deal, some parties, some drinking. It has gotten bigger the last few decades. Or I have just gotten more aware of it since I came back from playing Army.
Just got home from church where a lady I know grew up in Mexico.
She said they don’t celebrate May 5th but Sept 16th down there.
Yep, pretty much started in SoCal and spread east and north mostly as a reason to have a party.
Heritage played a part but it’s kind of like St Patricks Day, Pretend to be Irish for a day and get drunk.
My wife is of Mexican descent and says the same thing.
Yay! Go Bruins! 🍾
Wolves win again, 12 in a row for the twins and vikes get their QB of the future (hopefully). I’ll take it!
yeah, this just feels strange.
T’puppies are 5-0 in playoffs.
It doesn’t last long but you gotta love those 2 minutes when the ponies run.
What a finish!
watched the race. Kind of surprised that the horse that finished second was not dinged for bumping the horse that came in third. the entire stretch run.
If 11 and 2 hadn’t been banging around so much down the strech one of them might well have won.
12 in a row baby!!
You only give up 1 run you are going to win a hell of a lot of games.
7-13 to 19-13. Very odd.
But if you add them all together you are all evened out.
Numbers can be fun.
Twins hanging. Lopez on mound. Go Timber Puppies. Inject some sports positivity in this state of few champions.
Pablo is done, 99 pitches after 6 innings.
Lets see if they can hold/expand on the 2-1 lead.
At least for the weekend!
QotD: I honestly don’t know
Currently 4 NT/DT’s listed on the roster, 3 of which are rookies – 2 of which went undrafted.
To start I’d guess our base front 7 would look like:
DE: Bullard
NT: Phillips
DE: Tillery
OLB: Greenard
ILB: Cashman
ILB: Pace
OLB: Van Ginkel
I think we see lots of Dallas Turner – but I don’t think he starts week 1.
Expecting Coach Flo to think ‘outside the box’ and come up with lots of interesting combinations.
Not sure ‘starter’ will mean very much with the Defense.
At least with the front 7.
But I’d bet there are 3 or 4 of those who play and start on a regular basis.
Guessing he’ll blitz a ton. He may have people to do it.
Good job Surly, thanks for the thread.
Best Star Wars movie? Revenge of the Sith, followed by Empire strikes back.
Jets have 52 million in dead cap space. About 20% total space. Holy shit.
They could trade for Voldemort so that Atlanta can start Penix.
Kirk trade rumors hilarious.
Vegas missed out on a QB.
Yeah I could see him hanging out in a Casino, maybe passing out Bibles to sinners.
Going to be a interesting year in NFCN. I don’t think we compete at all with Lions, they seem all i. Spending money like a drunken sailor. Lots of variables with the Purple. Rookie camp Friday.
all in.
More worried about Packers. Young and have no idea how they do it, but seem to have another QB
True. Wonder if i should cheer for him to have a great year. Rookie contract getting low. Put pukers in cap hell.
Seems the Packers even when their young QB’s grow up and get paid, they still manage to put a solid team on the field.
This QB/WR contract stuff pisses me off. Always something with pro sports. Hell, can’t even watch baseball.
I sort of never think much of any of the contract stuff.
And the other teams, let them be good – want to beat them at their best.
Pro sports – it certainly has changed over the years. who’d of thought a guy hitting 240 can make 8 or so mil a year.
Baseball is insane.
And it is all guaranteed.
Utility player makes millions. Maybe empty stadiums and no tv contracts will change it.
Can remember when a get who hit in low 200’s, unless he fielded like Ozzie Smith, was on the bench (utility) and if didn’t pick it up, back to minors.
Big salary for a top notch guy in early 70’s about a $100,000.
Price of gas and eggs have gone up, however.
Remember watching an all star game AL had outfield Mantle,Maris and Kaline, and NL had Aaron, Mays, and Clemente – not one guy made six figures. And six great players.
Saw Mantle once at old Met stadium. Hit a pinch hit double.
People talk about strong/good hitters today. Believe one year Mantle won triple crown hitting like 330, 52 HR’s and over 130 RBI’s . And he was hardly the best hitter of his generation.
You look at Buxton contract. Beyond stupid. Can’t even stay on the field.
Just saw out for 10 days again.
I’d really love more of pro athletes salary be performance driven – low base with big incentives. You hit 300 with 60 HR – pay you a fortune.
You throw 40 TD’s – big money. You bum out – you don’t get much.
So Vegas is the only place with sinners?
Of course not, my comment didn’t say anything like that.
But if he is traded to Vegas he needs a hobby and gambling/bars/shows are not it for him.
I’m just having some fun.
Not trying to be argumentative.
It won’t happen this year. If Kirk is mad/upset/miffed or whatever Kirk gets, it could happen in 2025.
Vikings have $57 million in dead cap.
Really? Thought much lower.
Currently Over the Cap says we have $16.67M.
In 2025 we are projected to be at $85.45M.
I don’t know enough to understand all of the details.
I’m lost. Where/whom does 85 mil come from?
I assume the Base Salary Cap Limit minus what we have committed. We have several 1 year contracts that drop off of ’25s totals.
Voldemort and Hunters void years being done will certainly help.
If you mean where did I get that number click on the link.
SoCal in Idaho is correct.
Its basically the amount available in 2025 after taking into account all of the players under contract in 2025.
‘SoCal In Idaho’ I like it.
Might choose that one over NLSCMF once I move.
How about just ‘IVF.’
That $16 million doesn’t include all of the udfa’s yet. Available cap will drop over the summer, then after roster cuts, increase.
Realistically, I think the Vikings will have about $10 million after cuts to maybe sign a free agent(s)
Only the top 53 salaries count correct?
Doubt any of the UDFAs will qualify.
Just JJ and D. Turner should be a concern.
Kind of. In the off-season, it’s only the top 51. So they don’t count for the cap rule. This allows teams to field 90 players without dealing with the cap constraints. But OTC will still track cap space even though only the top 51 is the official rule.
Once final roster cuts are official, team can only have 53 on the roster. And must be under the cap.
The point stands.
UDFAs will not effect our Salary Cap.
Yes and no. Available cap space will change on every roster move. But the league doesn’t enforce all 90 players for cap compliance.
Rogue One is the best Star Wars movie.
The original trilogy, the Empire Strikes Back is the best
Rogue one sucks
Heretic.
The Reign of the Homer Sausage may soon end as Buxton goes on the IL.
https://puckettspond.com/posts/byron-buxton-injury-update-10-day-il-knee-inflammation-austin-martin-recalled
OK, anybody think Cine, now in his third year, will amount to anything? Could he be cut? Or is he a “favored son” as KAM’s first ever draft pick?
I had heard/read that he was pretty moody and keeps himself apart from the team pretty much. Not sure how much of that is true.
I think they keep him around as a ‘break glass in case of emergency’ type of player as his salary is basicly ‘sunk cost’ at this point. Hopefully the call is Flores’ to make.
Yeah, I hadn’t heard anything like that but it wouldn’t surprise me. He was hyped very hard by the media coming in, and everybody was talking about him. Now, he’s a nobody, and a potential bust.
Think his main problem is between the ears, he has/had all the tools physically but couldn’t get playing time, After the injury he struggled there as well, despite all the hype about how well he recovered.
He had a pretty major knee injury. That will affect anyone’s growth as a player.
Really have no idea. Had read his is gifted athletically and that allowed him to shine in college. Mental aspects of game another matter- you can take a bad angle in college and get away with it if you’re gifted but not so much in pros.
Believe mental aspects of game are still problem for him.
The NFL is chock full of “gifted athletes”. Like you said, it’s what’s between the ears that counts.
I am thinking that UDFA EDGE Gabriel Murphy is one of those.
Pre draft he was low rated in spite of a very high RAS playing in a power 5 conference.
Now he is being hyped as Dallas Turners back up, I have my doubts.
Hope I am wrong.
I think this the lesson we learn over and over. The sports entertainment industry’s engine is at full throttle when it comes to the draft. The hype machine runs on and on. In the end, we are usually blinded by the light, and convinced everyone is a budding Hall of Famer.
Most of our 6th and 7th round picks and UDFAs were pretty low rated. But they all seemed to be smart, hard working, quality people who also played decent football. Maybe those ‘between the ears’ qualities will prove out and we will get some gems.
Anyone else watching the Vikings you tube channel just for the hype train?
Didn’t even know such a thing existed.

Thanks Surly!
What’s the hype?
Yes.
I have never seen a full Star Wars movie….
Just wasn’t my thing.
I did watch old reruns of Star Trek as a kid (was always on late-night) and enjoyed them.
Slacker!!
I had nephews so I didn’t have much choice.
It actually helped because I had one who had trouble reading, so I got him a Star Wars book (not comics) and gave it to him.
He wanted to ‘Star Wars’ so badly that he says he read it 3 times, 1st time was a struggle for him then each time got easier.
Star Trek is terrible
I’m fine with it.
They had good episodes. They had budget issues which inhibited some of the more interesting shows.
Disagree.
So does the Gorn
People posting “Amish 500” the last couple of days.
Is that the Kentucky Derby?????
Thought is was the Amish Gran Prix.
Or is that the Formula One version??
There is the Miami Formula One race this weekend. I’m not sure what Amish 500 is either?
Hint,
It happens in Kentucky.
Really a pretty spectacular event.
Kentucky – basketball, horses and bourban
More a spectacular tradition than a sporting event IMHO.
The sport of Kings – so they say.
Thought that was Falconry?
My fathers family used to live in ”Paint Lick Kentucky’ when we used to visit them back in the late 60/early 70s.
Learned all about outhouses and other cool stuff.
Had never been to Kentucky and then twice in last six months – two weddings, one my son.
Would say beautiful country, nice people – pretty conservative, and and kind of rural feel to it.
We visited the family twice growing up, then in the Army I stopped by a few times as Ft McClellan was close.
Then they became strong Jehovah Witnesses and we grew apart. They would’t even go to my brothers funeral because it was in a church.
He had spent a lot of time with them when he was stationed at Ft Campbell.
Never got into Star Wars.
Smoking dope was my thing during that time period.
Was a guard at a Nuke site at the time.
Lots of time on our hands and drugs were not an option.
Sounds like you are even older than me.
Yeah!
My secret to long life is ‘The more birthdays you have the longer you live so have as many of them as you can’.
Deep thoughts by SoCal… nice!
My head if full of worthless knowledge.
Luckily if I share it makes more room in there for more worthless information.
The first one, to this day the only movie I went to by myself I wanted to see it so bad. Just saw the original again (Han shot first!) a couple years ago, still got shivers at the opening crawl of the setup for the movie, although the movie was definitely showing it’s age it still is my favorite.
1st as in when it came out or First as in the movie sequence?
“A New Hope” in 1977.
So the 1st one that came out but the 4th in the series.
I saw that one with a couple of Army buddies in Reno Nevada.
We had heard it was pretty epic at the time, definitely interesting.
I’m with you Surly. Rogue One is the best.
It has been too long since I’ve watched the rest to come up with a second best. Maybe I need to do a Star Wars marathon in the near future.
Anyone watching the Amish 500 today?
Watching the Timberwolves while expecting failure.
Maybe watch some golf if I want a nap.
I never watch racing. That probably makes me a racist.
Wouldn’t watching racing make you a racist?
Today is Amish Grand Prix so that would make you racist against Amish?
Just trying to figure out all of this ‘Social Justice’ stuff.
Good luck with that.
Don’t want to actually figure it just want to pretend I am trying to figure it out.
‘Virtue Signaling is easier and cheaper than being Virtuous’
Don’t tell anyone.
Secret is safe with me SoCal…
Watching Twins. Oh wait…………….

Empire Strikes Back is tough to beat. The first Star Wars is also up there.
ESB for sure. The Darth is dad reveal is one of the best storylines in movie history.
Nice work Surly. Thread just needs consistency, not sure mythical words up top do much. I don’t read them often.
I’ll figure out the editing things to make the next post I do look pretty, or at least better.
Too much going on today with the “Honey do” list to learn new things.
I’ll try to help.
Once you go to “posts”, you can clone posts, stuff like that.
I see no clone option. I can edit my own post, and view others, but no clone option.

Best Star Wars movie, Rogue One.
Second best – Empire Strikes Back
Good morning Surly, thanks for posting the thread!
I watched the first two Star Wars movies, and I liked them, but I was never a Star Wars fanatic. Same with Star Trek. I grew up with the show on TV, then watched the movies, but I was never a Trekker. Maybe science fiction isn’t my thing. I like mysteries mostly.
Had one nephew who was crazy for Star Wars, when he was little he tried to write that he was Star Wars Guy.
Only he misspelled it and it turned out to be Star Wars Gay. Yeah we still tease him about now 20 years later.
Family is Great!!
Laughing… that’s one of those family things you love. I wrecked a car when I was 14, and my brother has told my children this story many times.
Nothing embarrassing is ever forgotten.
The retelling over and over again becomes a family tradition.
Rogue one is merely ok, this is the best Star Wars
That was awesome
Return of the Jedi
I loved that movie until it turned into “The Muppets save the world”.
Ewoks were brilliant marketing, but Wookies would have been better.
Nor sure of the name, can’t remember, of the one where Obewon defeats Anikan by that pit of fire forming him into Darth Vader – thought was very good.
Revenge of the Sith.
Oh yeah, Annakin was a whiny prick in that one.
He always was a creepy shit once he grew up.
Princess Amadala (sp?) proving once again that women have terrible taste in men.
Like father, like son. Luke is a whiney bitch in “A new hope”.
‘Luke is a whiney bitch’
He had his moments but otherwise yeah, pretty much.
