Vikings Discussion & Random Thoughts
Random thought… Now that the NBA and NHL are over for Minnesota fans, and the Twins are useless, we can focus on the Vikings! I keep reading about the QB competition being an open and real competition, and while I hope that is the case, I am skeptical. I also think Murry will be QB1 in September. And my other thought on this matter is that we will see all three QBs currently on the roster at some point during the season. I still am rooting for JJ, but if Murray plays well or they both suck less than previous seasons, this could be fun. It could also be a train wreck.
Kirko still sucks, but has a very good sense of humor. https://www.reddit.com/r/nfl/comments/1tdfv9i/highlight_raiders_schedule_release_did_we_just/
I wish our favorite team would have more fun with the social media things, other than posting politically correct crap and showing they are afraid of offending some protected group….
Great weather around here today, so I hope everyone gets outside and does something fun. Golf this morning, and cooking outdoors later.

I guess the Vikings will be hosting the Ravens in preseason for practice on the 19th and 20th of Aug.

The greatest comeback in NFL history, to win the NFC North.
It was fun.
I was texting with my brother during the game and once it was over I told him that the outcome ‘was never in doubt’. #grin
I was so pissed at half time, but my grandson and i persevered. Fun game, that and the comeback against Bills
That Bills game was WILD!
I’ve often discussed how I feel about starting rookie QB’s in the NFL. Here is Tom Brady’s take on it.
I bet JR could pull this off…
I bet he got wet/filthy/muddy hitting that shot.
Probably figured it was worth it though.
JR does not put his feet in the water down here – too many reptiles for me.
Laughing… you have a point. There’s a lot of gators in the water around here, and water moccasins too.
Strange but neat thing happened on 9th hole last week.
Course I play is an Eagle sanctuary although I hadn’t seen many..
But last week I was going over to hit a shot by the lake. And standing maybe five feet from the ball was an Eagle holding an 18 inch fish in one of his claws. I could not believe how big he was – I had never been this close to one. He must have been two feet tall. Beautiful bird.
I had the pleasure of holding an Eagle for short period of time at an Air Force ceremony. Massive, and beautiful.
Finally got to golf 9 holes last week. Unfortunately it was super windy though so my score wasn’t great. I did hit my tee shot to 140 yards out on a par 5 though.
I hate your guts… just kidding. I could probably do that, if it was a 330 yard par 5.
Down wind from an elevated tee.
The card distance is 503. There was a tail wind, but no downhill.
I could easily drive a cart 363 yards, and have 140 out… grin.
I once hit a drive 405 yards. The ball had so little side spin on it, once it got on the cart path it rolled forever.
I was able to swing the club for the first time, since my surgery. Took a couple of swings while the wife and kids actually played a round. Felt good with no pain in the neck, so hoping in the next couple of weeks to try a 9 hole round.
Glad to hear you’re recovering JV. Hopefully it continues and you get back out there. Just don’t do more than you can. If you can only get through 6 holes, so be it. No need in retarding your progress by pushing too hard.
Good to hear recovery is going well.
My “pain in the neck” is usually a poor iron shot.
Pro tip for old golfers.
Take Motrin 30 to 60 min before you play.
Ive had, toe, foot, finger, knee and back aches and pains, but when I take it before, I haven’t had any discomfort in my rounds.
Having a solid, reliable, consistent QB throwing you the ball, matters.
‘the rare chemistry he built with Kirk Cousins‘
Is it Tuesday already?? I thought it was still Sunday.
It was rare for him in the fact he had the same guy throwing him the ball his first 3.5 years in the league. Thats about it.
Sunday…. Tuesday…… getting confusing around here.
I mean, timing and trust is everything at this level. It makes a difference.
It does. Takes two to Tango as they say. Justin has to play the politically correct role, stating “it doesn’t matter who’s throwing me the ball, my job is to catch it”, which is noble. The reality is as stated. A great receiver needs a QB who can get the ball to him on time, consistently and accurately.
Or just be on the field consistently to build the timing and trust. Is how I interpreted it.
Chemistry and who’s throwing the ball are neat things. But JJ was paid 40 Mil last year and caught 2 Td’s – those are really expensive TD’s.
Who ever is throwing the ball this year, we NEED to get him the ball!
True, but the merry-go-round of QB’s we’ve had recently (since Cousins injured his Achilles) has been significant. Dobbs, Mullens, Hall, Darnold, McCarthy, Wentz, and Brosmer. 7 guys throwing the ball in games. That’s a lot.
All I am saying is this. He’s paid a hell of a lot of money – we need to maximize that investment.
Cousins got him the ball, Darnold got him the ball. Hell, even Mullens got him the ball.
If you want the offense to shine, get him the ball.
I’d say QB’s that have some level of ability to see what the defense is doing, can get him the ball, while the inexperienced, and the ad libbers can’t. Murray better know how to read defenses, and get him the ball.
Then you better start Wentz.
Potentially
Murray doesn’t even know how to read a playbook.
if true he should be working at the air compressor repair plant with the illegal illiterates with lifer
I think he is the only player in the history of the NFL who a team felt the need to require a certain amount of playbook study for in their contract.
While I don’t disagree with what you’re saying… It’s such a small part of the story. Obviously we have seen JJ isn’t some diva who won’t give effort… and yes he had some drops last year that are unlike him but at the same time. Every TD that happened while he was on the field he was apart of the success of that play because when JJ is on the field the defense HAS to take note, adjust, etc…
You don’t pay a guy 40 Million to be a decoy.
He didn’t get the ball much last year because our QB’s were quite sub par.
Not sure who’s downvoting you or why, but it’s foolhardy.
Talking about quarterback play is a tender issue around here.
It’s a little like whack a mo and I can’t figure it out.
On the other hand, as we’ve indicated before, it reflects poorly on them, not us.
I don’t know, pretty mellow today.
If anyone doesn’t think we need to get the ball more to JJ and/or that our QB play was “par” last year, then either they or I are in la la land.
I’ve garnered some “illegitimate” distance a few times via the cart path assist method, but nothing like that.
He’s not JUST a decoy, that’s not what I said. Yes, 40 million for 2 TDs isn’t enough NO MATTER WHAT. If you are are WR getting paid that, you are getting paid to elevate your QB not the other way around… That said, every time he’s on the field he is impacting the game. It’s just true.
Of course he impacts the play just being there.
And yes he can help a QB.
But yes, it can also be true that he needs better QB play than we got last year.
And I do believe, whether true or not, if he catches 1800 yards and 18 TDs this year, it will make a hell of a difference in our offense.
Maybe I’m crazy.
Agreed.
@Which part? The first part, or the crazy part?@
Yes!
Depends on if he’s open and the QB just sucks, I’m not going to go back and watch the all 22 from last year but my guess is he was open but the QB couldn’t deliver, either way, 40 mil for a player dependent on someone else to be productive is crazy
FitBit is weird sometimes.
I am getting alerts that my HRV is high. HRV stands for Heart Variability Rate which is described as ‘fluctuations of time (milliseconds) between heartbeats’. This is caused by a ‘higher level of fitness or less alcohol use‘ per FitBit.
So TLDR version they are warning me that am getting fitter.
I love how its either one or the other, either you’re an alcoholic or you’re really in shape. We’ll let you decide.
Well since I don’t drink booze, never have, it is rather difficult to drink less alcohol to trigger the alerts.
I refuse to use these devices.
All they do is scare the shit out of you.
Just like your car today.
Alert!!! “ You should consider a coffee break” says my car on occasion.
It has it’s uses, the watch for example.
Plus it helps identify things that you can do better, issues that you might want to be aware of.
True one can focus and obsess over the data, but that is not required.
A few are freakin hilarious.😆

Yeah we can see that.
I’m not convinced he’s drunk or stoned.
Congrats to any and all that can attend.
And RIP while you are at it.

Yep.
Better be armed to have a chance at surviving.
You guys are the cutest bunch of fear mongering believers. Why is that such a staple of conservatives? Like obviously there are cringe worthy things both sides have tendencies towards but this one is a right thing. Like my wife’s parents were genuinely scared for our lives this past summer when went to NYC for a week. It’s so sad to watch people live their lives based in fear and fear mongering and worry. I’ve been to NYC a few times, been to St. Paul and Minneapolis, Chicago, Milwaukee, Denver over the past few years… never one issue. Are there violent crimes in those big cities? Sure, but I live in a town of fewer than 15,000 with surrounding smaller towns in the hundreds and every one of those towns also have violent crimes.
I’ve never been to Minneapolis, Milwaukee or Denver, but lived in DC for nearly 50 years. Didn’t live in fear but few people in their right mind would walk around 14th Street or Anacosta after dark.
There are certain areas you don’t go after dark, North Minneapolis, Lake street/Broadway area, generally things are perfectly safe immediately around the stadiums though
Was gonna say this. I went last December and we ate at Matt’s bar for Juicy Lucy’s then went to a couple hole in the wall dive bars that were in that neighborhood were ill say, us being white we were in the minority and we had a fun time and had zero issues and didnt feel in danger. Same with walking around down town to bars after the game. There’s certain parts of any city that are dangerous for anyone, but the fear hype of people that never leave the small home town or say ” im never going there again because of the *insert your least favorite political policy/member*” is exhausting.
Correct, and Matt’s has the best juicy Lucy in the cities
Dude they are SO good, Its still the best burger I have ever had flavor wise. Its simple, but checks every damn box.
Yep, and it’s a hole in the wall bar with great service, my favorite place in the cities, only thing that sucks is sometimes there’s a line down the block to get in
I have yet to have one from Matt’s, every time I try (which is like 2 or 3 lol) it’s always so damn packed I’m like naw.
My friend swears by 5/8 burgers.
I never tried them
Matts I have had, and they are very good.
Now I am hungry and want a Juicy Lucy…..
5-8 is solid, not Matt’s though
THHAAAAANK YOU! I went on a whim to Minneapolis a few years back and went to a concert at the Cabooze (shit hole place haha). Concert got over at like 10:30/11ish. I was driving back to my cousins house and right in that same area I passed an African restaurant that was PACKED at like 11:30 at night. I was like, this is a good sign. So I turned around, parked, walked in. Stuck out like a sore thumb, only white person in the place, and I did not care. To this day, still the best African food I’ve ever had. SO GOOD! The jalapeno beef dish was so crazy good.
I’ve been to the cabooze several times, it was always at the end of the zombie pub crawl, which used to be cool but now sucks because it’s all corporate sponsored and regulated
I mean, it’s not a bad place but for some of the concerts I have seen it’s just an odd set up.
Folks around here think the moment you step out of your car anywhere in the Minneapolis metro area you are insta-killed or some shit.
Meh.
I grew up in South Minneapolis. Property crime was shit back then, and our garage was broken into 3 times one summer. Early 80s. Things have just gotten more violent since then. So, I moved to suburbia.
If/when I go see the Vikings, I always park near the MOA and take the train. I never feel unsafe, just annoyed with the disrespect of other humans. Twice I have seen idiots causing trouble on the rail. No fun.
Right, I have seen plenty of dumb asses and some legit crazy folks yelling at walls in cities lol. The ONLY time in all my travels I ever felt I might have had to take action was some weird ass homeless guy came up to me and wife (girlfriend at the time) in Vegas and started getting a little odd with me, and her. He might have read me right because it was about to get confrontational and fucked off. lol.
Yeah, the light rail is annoying. Saw one ass harassing two women, and two decent and large Vikings fans stepped between him and the ladies, and at the next stop, politely removed him from the train.
Most issues on the train could have been prevented by forcing people to pay for a ride.
But then how can all the criminals and addicts get from spot to spot to get their FIX?!
Try using the train in Chicago late at night, I saw a guy taking a shit on the platform once
This fuckin guy talking about himself.
It is still the weekend? Nice.
More weekend is more better.
*Moar…
Isn’t it the weekend all the time for you retired old gezzers?
Mostly.
The Teacher has a Dr appointment today and then some much needed ‘shopping therapy’.
Not retired yet. That happens in Sep.
LOL at the PTSD comments
(Pretty Tired of Stupid Democrats)
I’ve never heard that before
The KOC Murray combo feels like a possible flash in the pan offense (can it generate a special season?).
Fortunately, I abandoned hope long ago.
Hey Peter, I wonder about the long term plan too. The Vikings sort of put all their eggs in the McCarthy basket, and it’s not worked out very well thus far. Could McCarthy come out this year and show everyone he has what it takes to be an exceptionally good NFL QB? He could. The team has kept Wentz and brought in Murray though. That seems to indicate they are uncertain what McCarthy is going to become and whether he is the QBOTF. This training camp and preseason will be full of drama in that regard IMO. At least we have that going for us.
Im hoping they can be a more balanced offense that shows it can hang around with any one and doesn’t thrive by picking up wins against sub par comp and lucky 4th quarter come backs for 75% of their wins (Kirk era) and isn’t just an inept dumpster fire with 0 run game and no adjustment or tailoring to the current QB or offense ( last year). Score often and early and let the defense do its thing, thats how you get there. If we can have that for a season and actually win a play off game, ill call that a win and something that might be the ground works for sustainability.
I’d love to see a balanced attack too BUT… It’s tough when you have one of if not the best WR trio in the league, plus Hock for your passing game weapons. Then for running you have one of the least threatening RB backfields in the league. We all know about running game to open up the pass but maybe the Vikes pass to open up the run? Unless that rookie has a breakout year there’s not one RB on the roster the defense needs to worry about. Not to mention any year now is going to be the year Jones looks a step slower because of age, seemed to have just enough juice last year when healthy but who knows if that’s still going to be a think this year.
Good comment and post.
Balance on offense is always desirable. But some offenses run to open up the passing game and some vice versa. Either will work and have done so.
Was listening to some analyst last week ( don’t recall who) and he made the point “where does a team put its money.” Believe for us it is clearly in the receivers and thus the passing game. Nothing wrong with this but it does drive direction. Moreover, I’m not sure KOC despite all his talk every season, is all that committed to the running game.
One big plus this season is that Murray is an elite scrambler and defenses have to be mindful of that.
I really believe the NFL is circular in how it’s been trending for offenses and defenses the past 20 years (or so). Remember when the NFL was really moving to a VERY pass happy, spread offense look. I think that was partly because defenses were built to having thumping linebackers to stop the run, so spreading out and having more WR weapons made matchup problems… so then you see the emergence of ultra athletic LBs who can cover side to side, and get after the QB, smaller linebackers who can cover… then in the last few years you’ve saw running make a resurgence and I think that’s partly because defenses have been building to stop the pass some what more than the run.
This is true.
Im praying that rookie RB is a diamond in the rough and surprises. I know, wish in one hand, shit in the other. But the reality is the run game comes down to personnel on the line and blocking scheme. I can run through holes if the O line opens them up. Agreed theres no RB threat on the roster that is good enough to be good on his own. Again, tailor the offense to your players strengths and not your “Im the smartest guy in the room” pass game that CAN get figured out.
And the coach needs to be really committed to the run game.
Your other point is spot on – good scheme with a line opening up holes and even a lesser back will make good yardage.
I also agree with other points that passing will have to open up the run game, I like our starting 3 WRs, hoping a promising 4 steps up that could also be a good WR3. Its going to be interesting and im looking forward to it.
I have no hope for a superb owl, it’s not gonna happen
also don’t you have a Skinflute to play?
This happened today at Mountain Home AFB near us and the base where we visit their commissary. Two U.S. Navy EA-18G Growler jets (F/A-18 Super Hornet family design) collided and crashed during a airshow.
4 parachutes were seen to deploy so hopefully everyone got out ok.
https://www.foxnews.com/us/two-jets-crash-during-idaho-air-show-emergency-crews-rush-scene
Definitely hope everyone survived. Ejecting from a jet isn’t easy. Usually the aircrew members suffer some significant injuries just from that event.
Looks like all for ejected safely, no mention of serious injuries.
Just the cost of two very expensive aircraft. If that had happened in the Middle East the Fake News would be all over it. Currently they don’t care.
https://thehill.com/homenews/state-watch/5882748-mid-air-collision-idaho-airshow/
Good to know the aircrew didn’t suffer any significant injuries. I had to work an F-15 crash many, many years ago where the pilot survived the ejection, but was badly injured.
Terrifying wow! Tells you how well trained they are though to stay cognizant enough to eject in all that chaos.
Yeah, those two jets were attached somehow. Good thing it was the undercarriage/landing gear so that the canopies were clear for them to eject.
To be the best, you have to beat the best.
Considering that four of those games are against FTP and the Bores I am not overly concerned. There are always a few other tough games on the schedule, this year does not seem worse that normal.
Agreed, I think its a favorable schedule aside from the early Bye week. 10+ Ws should be accomplishable imo.
Yeah and every year they do these things of strength of schedule pre-season and then you look after the season and it’s never the same as it’s all a guess right now.
The Teacher just saw a post online that said:
‘If you are not comfortable with a woman having a penis then maybe you are not mature enough to be dating’.
We are now discussing if that post was serious or trolling, she thinks serious while I am leaning towards trolling.
I’m pretty sick of being called homophobic, Islamophobic, or any other kind of phobic. There are things I find distasteful, and things that are actual threats to our Nation and culture. So people can stick that phobic stuff where the sun don’t shine.
‘Sticks and Stones…..’
Just like Racist and Nazi, they are just words used now days to silence disagreement.
‘Oh, you don’t like people stealing, killing, raping, etc, etc then you are a [fill in the blank]’.
Those words don’t mean very much anymore.
I agree, folks are done with the leftist labeling smear campaign BS.
Calling “phobic”, “sexist”, “racist” etc is often ised when the person cannot logically defend their position
Yep. Smearing your opponent is the norm, when you cannot intellectually challenge their position or commentary.
Parsons may very well go on the PUP list to start the season meaning we won’t have to face him week #1.
Gives our OL a bit of extra time to jell at the beginning of the season.
https://thevikingage.com/minnesota-vikings-may-benefit-disastrous-green-bay-packers-timing-week-1
That might just give us enough of an edge to win at home to start the season off on the right foot.
They should be down tight end Tucker Kraft as well as he recovers.
#nojinx
I hate the early bye week (week 6) but I think we can honestly start the season 5-0.
#nojinx
Does it really give the Vikings an edge?
Or does it equalize the matchup since a new QB needs to figure out the playbook and chemistry?
IMHO Parsons not chasing the Midget around the field while trying to murder him the first game of the season is a good thing.
I do think KOC can probably scheme up some things that he wouldn’t normally be able to with Parsons in the mix. The Vikings offense should be potent this year IMO. I think we put up 27 and the Packers put up 20 in this game. How’s that for a crystal ball?
I think the Vikes are going to torch that secondary week one.
Oline shouldn’t need any time to gel, they’ve played together enough, the dline is different story with the amputee and the fat fruit replacing Hargrave and Allen
Everyone on the OL dealt with injuries last year so they did not have many games together, if any.
Yes, time to jell under game conditions would be a good thing.
Kyler doesn’t need much of a line. He’s not going to stay in the pocket anyway.
And besides, KOC is going to modify the passing game – “sandlot right” and “sandlot left.”
Packers won’t know what hit them.
Only if those are Madden schemes.
It’s a beautiful sunny day here. Got the cars washed this morning, and went to breakfast with my wife. I had a very traditional, bacon, eggs, and pancakes order, and of course the wife had the egg white omllette with spinach, mushrooms, onions, and peppers. We were surprised to see so many folks there at 8:30 in the morning. Car wash had a few people there too.
I had a muffin and coffee, been surfing the inter web thingie since I got up.
Practically the same thing.
Almost exactly the same thing.
Too hot here – already 85 on way to low 90’s this afternoon.
Need to wash car but feel too lazy today, there’s always tomorrow.
Scottie Scheffler needs to get a serious putting lesson!
Wow… I was so worried about this…
Another 9-8 season with a one and done postseason?
Wow, can you imagine being .500 on the regular and losing in the first round of the play offs and not having a play off win in almost a decade, we wouldnt know what thats like right….right?!
I have come to the conclusion I am suffering from PTSD.
Pretty Tired of Stupid Democrats
Living in Commifornia I reached that point a long time ago.
Enough that I moved out of the state that my family has been living in since 1781.
That’s actually a very sad thing SoCal. So terrible.
Sad but better than staying in place and dealing with the PTSD.
It’s weird, I ended up moving into commisota after my family had lived in South Dakota since the 1800s
Seems like you got it backwards.
Unless of course you moved before the Somali Invasion.
Nope, I’m backwards, left the black hills and ended up in the twin cities
Condolences.
It’s Murray’s job to lose.
Total crapshoot on the season for the Vikings, as usual.
First nice day here in two months.
played golf. 48 on the front 43 on the back.
I suck but it was a nice day.
FTP.
Agreed, Murray to QB1 unless injured/lazy/stupid.
And of course FTP.
That’s not a terrible round, especially the 43 on the back. If you didn’t kill or maim anyone in your group, it was a good day.
I don’t think Fries was a ‘nightmare’ last year. Much like Darrisaw he struggled to come back from injury and should be fully healthy in 2026.
I also think that Tiernan (our 3rd rd OT) is a backup/insurance policy for both of them.
“He is a big, tall guy, but… an unusual body shape. You don’t see a [6-foot-7] guy with 32-inch arms very often.
…And some people I thought maybe he was best inside, and the fact that he was drafted [97th overall]…I thought this was a guy who had a chance to go in the first or second round just because of the shallow tackle market.
So the fact that he lasted about another round after that tells me that more teams projected him inside.
https://thevikingage.com/minnesota-vikings-biggest-offensive-line-nightmare-refuses-disappear
Good Saturday morning and FTP.
Not much going on at the moment, other than the Murray versus McCarthy discussion. I think Murray’s the starter when the dust settles.
I agree Murray has the edge, but we do not know how/if JJM has developed. Nor do we know who the real JJM is. 9 starts, many very ugly. A few were pretty good.
Also in question, is whether KOC can adjust his game planning to better fit 2 very different qbs. We may have to watch preseason games this year
FTP Auto Rec.
Marketing fluff. They didn’t bring Murray in, and he didn’t chose to come here, to be a clipboard holder.
If KOC adjusts his offense to take advantage of Murray’s skill set, we can be a top three offense in the league.
I think JJ (QB) will battle Wentz for #2 and the right to be first up if/when Murray gets hurt. I think he wins that job mostly due to his draft position.
I hope he is able to take the job and run with it once he get the chance but with the Vikings luck he will just get injured again and it will be Wentz time again.
I agree with this take. If Wentz ends up being QB2 to Murray, I’d say McCarthy’s 5th year option is in trouble, and the Vikings likely draft another QBOTF next year.
As I’ve said before, lots of folks think the only problem McCarthy had was his mechanics throwing the ball. There was a lot more to it than that. He didn’t operate the offense efficiently. Wentz came in and with very little time on task, ran the offense much better. I think KOC knows McCarthy is a long way from being a bona fide starting QB in the NFL. We’ll see if in the off season he made some sort of quantum leap in his passing ability, and his ability to run an NFL offense.
‘lots of folks
thinkhope the only problem McCarthy had was his mechanics throwing the ball’FIFY
They hope that whatever else ail JJ (QB) can be fixed with experience, only 10 starts make that a reasonable hope.
‘Hope for the best but expect the worst’ Always with this team.
Here’s why KOC was not happy with McCarthy last year. It was his second year in the offense. He had a whole year to study it, and watch Darnold run it. He sat through all the meetings and game plan discussions. KOC had a one on one with him every week. Yet he came out last year and didn’t run the offense as expected. Worse, he was woefully inaccurate. KOC clearly saw Wentz could run the offense far better than McCarthy, with just a couple weeks on the team, and no reps with the starters before being thrust into the starting role. McCarthy should have been much better at executing the offense than Wentz at that point, but he wasn’t. KOC went out and got Murray because McCarthy is way behind on the development curve. He worked on his throwing mechanics all off season, but the bigger problem is between his ears.
Its the hope that kills you
Which is why some here abandon it.
FTP autorec
