Vikings Discussion & Random Thoughts
Decembers are boring when the team is not a contender. At least we get a few more games to see if JJ can possibly improve at least a little bit. Something to give us hope going into next season that JJ is not Ponder 2.0.
Not much to root for other than whomever is playing FTP each week.
This will also count as a game thread Sunday unless someone else is motivated to put up a new thread for in-game laughter and ranting.
Thread Guidelines
- Keep politics to a minimum. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
- Be respectful and civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument, not the poster.
- Keep the NSFW language/pictures to a minimum. We don’t want anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
- To summarize, behave like adults. Treat each other with respect, and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. If you want to reach out about something, please do. We want to have robust discussions, that’s why we’re here, just be civil.
- Twitter sized version: Be cool to one another.
Inactives today…
Not too bad.
Sorry I’ve been absent. I just wrapped up two evictions/cleanouts that hit at the same time while finishing up my November inspections, and now my December inspections are due. I’m trying to finish all of this prior to flying to Florida on Saturday. I’ve also been finishing the loft in my shop. The loft is up, but the shop is a chaotic mess, I’ll get it put together soon. I ordered some retractable stairs that will arrive tomorrow.
It’s all good, I think I’m almost caught up. I’d rather be busy than bored.
Loft
Stairs

Be careful with those…
I know. I learned the hard way. I broke a bone in my foot last year climbing down the ladder to the loft at my previous shop.
Well, I broke the bone when I fell off the ladder, not when I climbed down the ladder. I tried climbing down, but failed.
The tall folding ladder/stairs going into the attic above my garage is broken. It has a large crack in one of the side rails. Those are such a pain in the ass to replace. I just duct taped the shit out of the crack and only go very lightly up those steps. One of these days, it will collapse on me…so I’ve avoided going up there…
It shouldn’t be too hard to replace, I’m guessing it attaches via several bolts to the ceiling joists. They shouldn’t have used screws, screws have very little sheer strength, bolts are advised.
Time to relax… enjoy some football. Hopefully a win.
We’re going simple today for football lunch. The wife is making hamburgers, but with a little twist. We have some Bacon Jam we’ll be using instead of mustard and catsup.
Midwest Bacon Jam (savory, not spicy). Walmart carries it as well as other grocery stores. Amazon too. Delicious.
Sounds good!
Catsup or Ketchup? Which is the correct pronunciation? I’ve heard both used all my life.
Laughing… me too. Catsup was fewer letters to type… grin.
We have had some of that Bacon Jam sitting in the pantry for a couple of years now, had no idea on what to use it with. Was a gift or some such.
We discovered this at a restaurant we frequent. They have a Bacon Jam Burger. I tried it, and said “damn” right away. The wife got some the next day. We sue it on scrambled eggs too.
Game thread is scheduled to post at 11:00!
Thanks!
At least we managed to reached 100 comments first.
84th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Always remember.
So you’re sayin there’s a chance…
Good morning, SKOL!
FTP!
Will the Vikes play well, today? I dunno….
Think so. We’re playing a team at about the same level.
Laughing…
So many people are driving by his house and yelling ‘retard’ that the HOA has been getting complaints.
What goes around comes around Tim. You called him a Nazi, and Hitler… he just told the truth about you.
Exactly.
Laughing…
He’s played with that bad knee for a while now.
definitely has not been playing as well as expected. Sucks, but injuries are worse when the team has no depth.
Good morning Surly… we have been very banged up on our O-line all year. Never quite got the group healthy and playing consistently together.
Down goes The Ohio State to Indiana 13-10. Definitely a defensive game.
Duke win the ACC 27-20 in OT.
Looks like the last playoff spot will go either to 3 loss Alabama, Notre Dame or Miami which beat ND earlier this year but is currently ranked behind them and neither of them played this weekend.
Expect lots of crying and gnashing of teeth when the final spots are announced Sunday. I am looking forward to it.
That was a great game, both defenses are STOUT. I’d love to see Caleb Downs in purple next year.
I saw where they missed a 27 yard field goal. Let’s not go after that kicker.
I think we’re finally set at kicker, so we won’t have to worry.
Someone who understands college football please explain something to me.
Indiana has sucked at football for as long as I can remember. Last year they were good, this season they are better. Just coach? Or did they open up the $ with NIL?
Makes me think PJ needs to go if this is just coaching.
I am thinking that they had to make a ‘talent gap’ as well as had a coach who could bring it all together.
Texas Tech went all in with NIL as they have lots of donors with big oil money. They have made that work this year but I had not heard the same about Indiana. They started the year ranked about 22nd or so.
NDSU managed to give 15 pts in the final 3m and lose to unseeded Illinois St?
https://sports.yahoo.com/college-football/breaking-news/article/no-1-north-dakota-state-gives-up-15-points-in-final-3-minutes-in-shocking-fcs-playoff-loss-to-illinois-state-213244921.html
and SDSU loses to Montana? WTF?
Montana makes at least some sense, but Illinois St???
The ‘Event’ we attended was held at a ‘driving range/bar/resturant/mini-golf/etc’ facility.
The driving range had a goalpost in the middle and lots of ‘targets’ painted on it.
Made me think of you golfing types although no one there seemed to be a serous golfer.
https://topgolf.com/us/boise/
Oh, we’re not vert serious, just yap a lot about it.
Top Golf are pretty neat places and a lot of fun. Even folks who don’t play golf like them.
The food was good, the SEC game was on the TV and the people at our table were interesting. Everyone was a ‘political refugee’ from Commifornia.
Yeah… we’re definitely causing climate change…
The way I had it explain was if you took a football field as the atmosphere then 1 blade of grass length at the goal line was the amount mankind caused.
It never passed the ‘logic test’, just a scam to make money.
Don’t worry… Mahomes is the greatest QB ever… he will win the game all by himself.
‘he will win the game all by himself’
@As all good QBs should.@
Yeah, fans don’t realize the QB is really the only actual player on the field. All the other players are CGI.
We call those RPCs (Role Playing Characters) in on-line/video games.
KC is having a tuff year, lost lots of close games. Tons of WR injuries and problems, even at running back some.
Now 60% of the line.
The guy is great but the hill is getting pretty steep.
Yep… a QB isn’t gonna be very successful without the whole rest of the team…
That was interesting play. Texas Tech RB fumbled the ball running downfield but a WR recovered it stride and got another 15-20 yards out of it.
13-7 Tech at the half.
BYU just had it’s 4th turnover and already down 31-7.
Looks like this one is going Techs way.
Yeah… not much of a game…
About as good as Georgia-Bama, 28-7.
This was a great scene…
I have committed this scene – and several others from movies over the years – to memory:
Jack Nicholson’s ‘You want me on that wall’ speech from ‘A Few Good Men’
The ‘just walk away’ speech by Lord Humungus in ‘The Road Warrior’
The ‘Original Greaser Bob’s’ line from Bear Man in the remake of True Grit….
The above quote from GWH is fantastic, but I think the one where he interviews with the NSA is even better….
Amazing you can commit these to memory…
Lot of years working graveyard shifts. Lots of free time. Would look up clips on YouTube and watch on repeat.
Ahhh soooooo
Lol. Every time I see this response….
I think you’re calling me (or whoever) an asshole in a mocking Chinese fashion.
I know you’re not. Or at least I think you’re not.
It makes me laugh every time.
And I’ve definitely resembled the remark if so…..
Laughing… definitely not, and this is actually the first time I’ve ever had that viewpoint presented to me.
Betting is a complicated thing…
Hey everyone its my Birthday today! Happy Birthday to me!
All I want for a present is competent QB play from the Vikings. Is that too much to ask?
Happy Birthday!
As I recall on your last birthday I ‘wished’ for you 20,000 more miles out of the Subaru. Not sure how that worked out, nor this year’s request – seems like a big ask.
The Subaru has put on 16,000 miles since it spent that horrific 5 months in the shop. It currently has 141,000 on it. Now I am afraid it may last another 5 years and I am getting tired of it…but I am too frugal to stop driving a car that is working. Everyone else at my office is now driving a much newer vehicle. I am driving a 2011 subaru….I definitely have new car envy.
Driving a 2016 kia.
I like not having car payments more than I like driving a new car…..
First, happy birthday NoDak! Hopefully you get a nice cake, and some good lovin.
Second, sadly your present is on order, and I think it may take a while to get here.
Sadly I think you are correct.
Happy Birthday!
And yes, you are asking for too much…..
Happy birthday!
And yes.
So I wonder how the field standards and criteria were developed? I do hope whatever they came up with is the best solution for joint injuries.
Bears are screwed.
I figured that they would have to pony up for a new field.
City of Chicago with all their money laying around.
Maybe they can get all of those ‘criminal illegal aliens’ to pay their ‘fair share’.
So my wife sent me a text yesterday with a picture of her cat from 3 years ago. He was hugely obese at 31 lbs. Looked like a beach ball with feet.
Today he is at 22 lbs. He’s not completely svelte, but he is way more mobile, can hop up on things, etc. Three years of dieting, finally got him to a healthy weight. Happy that she knuckled down on his feeding regimen, and stuck with it. He has been hungry pretty routinely for 3 years, but he’s in good shape now.
Trying to up your ‘Liberal Game’ and Virtue signal with cats??
cat people are good people – except for the crazy ones, there are some of those.
My wife is the cat lover. Something I married into, and accepted. She is a good person with a big heart, and that extends to her cats. They are well cared for at all times. They’re good cats, social, and friendly. She lost her cat of 16 years to colon cancer about 5 years ago, and we went to the shelter, where there was a very sickly cat, with almost no fur. The shelter guy said he was scheduled for euthanasia that afternoon. Of course she took him home. He was immediately a very loving cat, and I could not understand why he had been discarded. They found him wandering around on the streets. He was malnourished, and in terrible shape. He had been neutered though, and clearly was not born in the wild. Someone dumped him. She nursed him back to health, and then some. She left food out for him 24 hours a day, and he ate it. Over a period of two and half years he put on weight, and his fur grew back. Unfortunately, the weight gain was excessive. I still wonder why he was just dumped on the streets though. He is really a very good cat. Gentle soul, and loving.
People that dump their pets irritate the shit of me. Usually its because they are moving and for whatever reason they don’t want to or can’t take them along. Sometimes its because an elderly person dies and no family wants to take their pet, so rather than have them put down – which costs money – they just dump them somewhere.
I think it’s criminal.
Gruden… love this with Dart
I don’t know if y’all action movie fans but I’m currently watching ‘Nobody 2’
Goddamn if I’m not enjoying it.
Saw the first one – I love a good action flick. Gonna watch my favorite Christmas movie later (yes, it’s ’Die Hard’ and yes, it’s a Christmas movie) so this is right up my alley. I was a sucker for every piece of action trash Van Damme, Segal, Stallone, etc ever made when I was a kid.
Bob Odenkirk doesn’t immediately grab you as an action star but he’s solid imo. Good fight scenes. Far fetched but still good. Snappy one-liners.
And Christopher. F******. Lloyd.
Would recommend.
The scripts made Van Damme tougher than he was but his movies could be enjoyed if ‘suspended disbelief’. Segal was ok except for that prancing, gay, run he had.
Jet Li and Bobo Yeung were favorites. Bruce Lee was at his best in the Green Hornet as Kato IMHO.
Agree on all of the above.
I really, really enjoyed the Ip Man series with Donnie Yen.
I loved the first one, and will watch that.
And I agree on Die Hard. Wife and I argue about that, but she can be wrong.
It is on my Christmas watch list every year. It is a Christmas movie.
I’ve not seen those “Nobody” movies, I’ll have to check them out, thanks.
I haven’t either but I’ve heard good things. I may have to give them a watch.
I started my Christmas movie watching last night. I didn’t start out with action however. I watched White Christmas and Scrooge (1970 version).
The best Scrooge movie is Scrooged….
So I figured out today what’s wrong with me… it took a while, but here’s my problem:
I’m
– White
– Straight
– Christian
– Traditional
– Conservative
– Patriotic
– Hard-working
– Anti-woke
– Pro-veterans
– Pro-life
– Pro-family
– Gun owner
– Believer in merit
– Gender realist
– Pro‑common sense
– Proud capitalist
– Defender of free speech
– Supporter of only legal immigration and secure borders
I’m a mess
Well you do like golf, so the libs like that about you at least.
Oh yeah… that rich, white, old man sport? Libs love that.
Seems a ‘Liberal Elite’ activity to me.
Can’t call it a sport.
You need to take one of those “Walks of Shame” and cleanse yourself. If you weren’t white, you’d be a total wreck!
Shame, shame!
Looks like my New Years resolution list is gonna be a long one this year JR.
You truly are the exact profile of the what the libs believe are the most dangerous people in America (so am I).
Yes, and my self-image is suffering badly. I can barely live with myself at this point.
@Shame on you, for being such a mess@
Thanks a lot. Now I’m depressed about my life.
There are many, many pass plays we can run that are simple reads, and simple throws for McCarthy. He could rack up 10 completions in a row, easy, in my opinion. The Redskins pass defense is weak, especially with Lattimore and Amos on IR. I just think Jefferson should be able to get open, and McCarthy should be able to get him the ball.
Some excellent college football today.
First off we have BYU- Texas Tech, both11-1 at 10am.
Then Georgia 11-1 vs 10-2 Alabama at 2pm.
And then the ‘Big One’ #1 Ohio St and #2 Indiana, both 12-0 at 6pm.
Boise St already beat UNLV in the Mountain West championship game so we off to a good start.
I’m not normally into college ball, but given the state of our team, plan to watch couple of these games. People down here are big time into Georgia Bama game with big followers for both teams.
That should be a good game – I got my eye on Bucky & Indiana. Kind of a fan of Cignetti and how he’s brought that Hoosier program to life…..
How’s Goose doing? Looks pretty good in the picture.
He is quite well. I get my Goose time every few days, most weekends I take him back to my dad’s acreage to run around and get into trouble.
YUP…..
Great games. Been up this morning doing chores so I can immerse myself in college football all day.
Been so damn productive I decided to make my coffee a wee Irish this morning….
We have an ‘event’ to go to between 2-5 so I will miss the SEC game but I am ok with that. Not a SEC fan at all.
Yep, lots of rain here, today. A good day to settle in and watch College Football.
First!
FTP!
SKOL!
🔨🔨🔨
Good morning Mjolnir. Rec for first and FTP.
SKOL!
Cold here in Alphabet Town.
Pretty good college foosballs matchups on today.
Made a chicken pot pie last night – quite the process for this renewed bachelor but it came out pretty good. Crust was easier than I thought (thank you, YouTube) Bought and deboned a rotisserie chicken (total cheat compared to how my mother did it) threw in a veggie medley bag and a couple cans of cream of mushroom/cream of chicken and 4 huge cut & peeled russets and boom – Chicky Pot Pie resting in the fridge to be tossed in the oven later.
Making cookies later today.
I’ll make fine wife someday…..
We finished off Turkey Enchiladas last night, TD turkey about gone now.
I cheat with store bought crust, those little tubes of dough make it easy. We take about a week to use a Rotisserie Chicken up, 3 days of leftovers and then debone and 3-4 days of chicken pasta or some such.
Glad you are experimenting in the kitchen, it can be fun.
Out of boredom. Necessity.
I’m great on the grill. Good experience on the smoker. With winter arriving I want to focus my efforts on good comfort food. Gonna attempt meatloaf next week.
Meatloaf, lasagna and enchiladas are my ‘go to’ favorites.
I experiment/play around with others to break up the monotony, crockpot is great for that.
I need to up my smoker game, need more good-er gear for that. Some day soon.
It’s cloudy here, and 72 degrees. Expecting some rain today. High is expected to be around 81 degrees. Gonna be raining the next 3 days though.
Love the cooking you’re doing. We’re doing chili here today. Wife is also making homemade cornbread, with some jalapeno in it.
FTP Auto Rec.
Good morning, SKOL!
