Week 3 injury report

This seems like torture.
They sucked
And swallowed
Why is there two open threads? One for the civilized and one for the riff raff?
Yep, the other thread is wide open, so any topic goes. This thread is open, but with rules similar to what we had back in the pre-Coral DN days. I think having two options was the only way to give everyone what they want. Plus, I think it’ll drive up traffic & be welcoming to a wider range of people. Not everyone likes the wide open debate, some do, it’s all good. In the end, we all want the Vikings to win (except Chim, he wants the Lions to win).
Sounds good. I’ll go check in and see what the degenerates are doing.
How is the open thread going to survive with such limitations!
😂
The DJIA dipped just under 30,000 briefly at 1005 am ET. Can we sustain the drive to the bottom?
It’ll continue, IMO.
What do you think about our President
pretty risky behavior there
well, I didn’t vote for him, and we ultimately have not had the successes I have hoped for, so
thumbs down
You voted for Mark Wilf? Quite the homer write in.
Dick
I meant GASkol for stirring the proverbial pot.
I’m not commenting on any political stuff.
by “president” he meant the president of the Minnesota Vikings organization, Mark Wilf
Spaulding?
I thought he was testing Robs moderating skills
My buddy said that from inside the 30 yard line on Monday, Kirk was 2/9 with 3 interceptions. I didn’t verify that, but I don’t doubt it’s true.
He got it all out of his system now he’ll go on an mvp level run and not be considered for anything because of his prime time stinker.
I hope so. He had 3 or 4 meltdown games like that last year, I was hoping that the new regime could at least cut back on that number, but here we are after week 2 with one meltdown already.
red zone, more like dead zone, amirite?
Ugly. Outside of the touchdown drive, there were three times when they actually moved the ball, and those drives all ended with an interception. Gave the ball to Cook 6 times. Kirk spazzing, yet we keep putting it all on him. I dunno, it just seemed like we were out-coached and our QB had a meltdown.
coaching was bad
way too cute, new guy outsmarted himself
Defense was atrocious, pass coverage was really really poor. Played too far off all night.
yeah, whichever commentator (probably Aikman) pointed out that the Vikings were running the shell all night to their detriment had a good point
Could be, I watch on mute, so I’m not much help.
It really reminded me of our 2011-2013 pass defense where we always allowed huge cushions, Rogers used to carve us up every damn game.
Troy was not impressed by our defense
Nobody was
Is that good?
For Philly? Yes.
That doesn’t seem to be a good thing.
No, that seems bad to me, too, but I’m no expert.
Pissed down his leg
Single-handedly killed every chance they had to come back.
Pete, what is that German car rental company who had that spokesgal with the pretty smile?
Sixt
Sixt
Sixt.
When I hear sixt I think of six but she is German so six is sechs…bottom line makes me think of sex.
she’s cute
Subliminal advertising there.
Sixt
I rented from them when I went to Breckenridge last Feb.
Go company. Got an all wheel drive BMW
Wow, they have a branch in Breckenridge? That’s crazy, I thought they were only in Europe. I don’t think they’re in Wahpeton, are they?
Denver. Right by airport
I didn’t know they were in the US. I’d rent from them just because of that spokesgal.
I signed up for their rewards stuff.
They’re in most major US cities now.
I’m pretty sure even Minneapolis
She’s sechsy.
I thought you meant Breckenridge Minnesota
Thanks everyone. Wow. What are the next winning lotto numbers? Oh man, I just realized I didn’t do a mock powerball drawing at all this past off-season. Dang it. I’ll have to make sure to remember that for after February.
I was told there was free beer here?
Welcome man!
just hat
You drive a hard bargain
free beer “tomorrow”
Because Stu pays…
Very sleeeeeepy.
You too?
so – will filbert return now?
I want to hear about how his truck payments are going
and whether he’s still tending bar
He’s a good dude. I met him at the dojo one time, him and kodiak were both there that day, and supa and cane, of course.
I met ol’ fil at the dojo once, too
and supa and cane, of course
cane wasn’t impressed with my beard
I’ve always had a good time at the dojo, both places. The place by TCF was REALLY cool, not sure if you got to that one. That’s where I spent the day leading up to that night-time Giants game toward the end of 2015. It was something like 25 below, we tailgated for something like 6 hours, maybe more. LOTS of beer, lots of bourbon, then we kicked the dogsnot out of the Giants. Such a fun game, most fun I’ve had at a game from a partying standpoint, the end of the game is foggy.
went to one game at TCF
it was an embarrassment at the hands of the Seahawks
I sat by a bunch of Seahawk fans
it was rainy the whole time
I paid for two tickets to take my dad to the game
(sigh)
Fitting that it rained when we played against Seattle.
I did send him a message on tweeter to let him know we were starting this thread.
(steeples fingers)
excellent
I texted him yesterday, told him we were doing this if he was interested
Oh, so both threads can be busy at the same time? @Wow, I’m shocked@.
I thought that was impossible
Yep, zero-sum game. If one place gets comments, the other place HAS TO lose comments.
How is the ‘z’ button coming along?
Request made. It’s apparently not an easy thing to create. It’s numero uno on the priority list.
The whole thing makes me think of the IT department for my shop. There is a gal, I will call her “Lynn” (not her real name) that is apparently the lynchpin for the whole operation. Ever since I started working over 12 years ago any issues that were brought up from trying to create a new imaging order to flagging a patient on blood thinners scheduled for a biopsy were answered by “that’s a Lynn issue”. Six months later, any progress, “Lynn is working on it”. Eventually it just withers away. I am convinced Lynn doesn’t actually exist or if she does she spends her time working on her pinterest page and Fbook posts.
Nah, these guys have been pretty quick on a lot of things. This z key thing is just apparently hard to create, for some reason. I dunno. I remember it even took Vox, with all their billions of dollars, several months (maybe a year?) to get it on Coral. They’ll get it figured out at some point.
I didn’t know Coral ever got it.
IIRC, they got it not too long before I made my exit.
and Rob, I think we both left the same day.
Yep and the initial story at DN for everybody leaving was because they wanted a z key, didn’t get it quick enough then left after they got their precious z key. And then it wasn’t that anybody left, it was just the off season slow down.
LOL, that had literally zero to do with it.
Absolutely, that’s why it was hilarious and since there’s no z key here it makes even less sense.
uh oh
he’s onto me!
It’s kind of hard to keep up.
it’s a young man’s game
You will have to excuse me for a few minutes. I have to get off The Porch and go out into the Open as I have a few items that need to be discussed by the Wild Ones.
sorry, not allowed
oh, wait, of course it is
Mornin’ Skoloholics!
oh, good morning
I flagged one of Rob’s comments for fun
please ignore 🙂
I love fall.
Grass is still green, but there’s enough oak leaves on the lawn to make everything feel cozier. That nip in the air – so nice!
Definitely chilly in the evenings/mornings. Down into the lower 40s here already, they’re talking frost this weekend.
I had to move the lime tree inside!
I have a jasmine out front that comes into the garage during winter. I’ll be moving it in very soon.
yeah, I put mine under the sun light bulb last night
The coconut tree also?
that’s a myth
Nothing like the visible exhalations of the dog while he punches through tall grass. Makes my soul happy.
of course it does!
PS – I can see your 0.01% shining through
well, <1%
I suppose that could be any precise number greater than zero and less than 1 percent
It’s amazing how something as small as a tooth can derail life. Had one go bad, and it is kicking my buttocks. Finally getting on top of the pain. And it is like the tooth pain is only part of it. The headache that goes with it is next level. It’s not quite migraine bad, though, because there is no nausea with it.
Take care of your teeth, kids!
a sobering reminder
I do a pretty good job of brushing and flossing, but it seems like genetics are always the wild card. My dad had trouble with his teeth. I maybe inherited the tendency.
One problem is that when I was in grade school, they said, “Brush your gums!”
Now that is verboten because it causes gum recession.
In grade school I was told to eat lots of bread – foundation of the food pyramid
Just chew Grizzly Wintergreen long cut.
It’ll fix your gums right up.
I tried chew once.
Once…
Me and another guy who chewed were out working in a strawberry patch one summer. I asked him to give me a pinch.
“I better not,” he said. “You’re not used to it.”
“What’s the big deal?” I asked. “Give me some.”
“Okay, but don’t swallow it.”
“Yeah, yeah.” So I took some. I didn’t swallow it, just left it in my lip and spit occasionally. Started getting woozy.
“You feeling a buzz?” he asked.
“Yeah,” I laughed. “Good stuff!”
Ten minutes later I was bent over and heaving my guts out. Never again…
I chewed for quite a while, I quit that the same time I quit smoking. Been 21 years now since I quit, I think.
I wish my stepson would quit chewing. Between the chew and the beer he has the substance addictions bad. When we were on the boat on Sunday he was sitting behind me trying to act all sneaky but I could tell every 10-15 minutes he was putting a new pinch in his lip.
Then he goes home, eats a steak, and goes right to bed. Weekends are sleep til 10, get up and feed cows or some such, back in easy chair for a two hour nap in the afternoon, then farting around, drinking beer, chewing tobacco, eat late, straight to bed.
It’s catching up to him. Hate to see him hit bottom but he will.
how old is he?
42 in a month.
how’s his weight? (or BMI or whatever – how’s his strength & conditioning)
does he have kids?
I know my kids help keep me healthy. I’m up by 8 on weekends to help w/ breakfast and family stuff. Saturday is to-do list time from breakfast until a late lunch around 2, usually followed by a bonus beer and a quick 45 minute nap. Then it’s to-do list time until the kids have dinner, and the wife and I eat Chipotle late and watch something fun.
Church makes sure I have something to do on Sunday mornings, so that’s helpful for me. Then it’s usually hours of yardwork.
I stay away from tobacco, but I do like my beer. My doctor keeps telling me to cut back.
how old are the kiddos?
I’m very glad to hear that the kids have multiple options – lots of time being outside and in shops / around horses.
it’s weird how alcoholism can sometimes run in a family. there’s certainly a genetic component, but I’m hoping these kids will rebel against their father’s habit for obvious reasons. I wonder what your stepson’s childhood was like. I wonder what his dad’s childhood was like.
Well it is therapy session for me today. Glad to share.
Boy 13, girl 10.
My stepson is doing exactly what his dad did to him. This has been pointed out. He doesn’t see it because “not mean” and “six beers for me is like one of those dark beers you drink”.
Interestingly, the father of my wife’s ex was a very kind and gentle man. He drank, sure, but never to excess, He spoiled their only boy, really. He and the mother of my wife’s ex never turned their back on her during or after the divorce, while many in her family did as “he’s a good provider for you and the kids”.
I imagine the temptation to resist that truth is even stronger than the temptation to drink another beer.
That’s a lot for a 42 month old to be doing in a day.
That’s not a recipe for good health, hopefully he finds a way out of that funk.
I quit all nicotine about 10 years ago.
Chewing usually happened when hunting or fishing for me.
Happy I quit.
First time I tried Copenhagen, I was probably around 10-12 years of age. I was with an older “cooler” kid fishing on the shore of a Texas bluegill pond. I asked to try it after I saw him put one in. He didn’t give a shit. So, I put one in and everything was fine until I got dizzy and took a header into that water moccasin filled mudhole. I learned my less…at least for a while.
hey Rob, Skolly
I flagged a comment (one of Rob’s, LOL) for testing purposes and haven’t been able to find any indication of the flag in the admin stuff here. Any idea if anything happens other than B-Rad getting an email?
I got the email, it sends me a link to the comment, then I go take a look. Pretty good process. I think I can set it so that it sends emails to others as well. Hopefully it’s not an issue, we’ve had no need for moderation, I’m hoping it stays that way.
Glad to hear that
I suppose the front porch elevates the risk for needing moderation – let’s see how it goes
Since there’s another option that is wide open, I highly doubt we’ll have to do much here. I like the setup, I think it’s going to work out really well.
it certainly has good potential to be self-moderating
Bucs DT Akiem Hicks Out With Plantar Fascia Tear
First Evans is suspended, now this. If Brady stays healthy, pukers gonna have the easiest games against the Bucs this year.
holy crap – that’s some font
Could you make the heading a bit bigger?
I tried to make it smaller without success
gotta be careful copying and pasting directly from other articles it seems – lesson learned!
Question
Is Kirk still a pansy?
duh
Is water still wet?
Rob, thank you for not using the phrase “gender hatred” in the rules. That drove me up a wall at the other place.
I’ll update them, thank you for the suggestion 😂
NO!
I got the notification for the flag.
ha! Ok. I was wondering if I would see anything.
Love the name of this place. Not nearly as many porches these days as 60/70 years ago
I wasn’t sure anyone would comment here,
had a whole bit ready to go for the 1st ten comments
Now what will you do?
Use it in the next one? Toss em? Post em in the open thread? Cross stitch?
Knit
solid plan
Nice break once in awhile
At first glance I thought you said the 1st ten commandments and I was going to have to reprimand you.
Hello Porch people.
Good morning!
Hi Rob!
Hi PPB 😃

Long night?
Not really. Did not sleep well, and that post was prior to coffee.
I am better now.

Haha dangit rob.
Also hi!
Hi Freezy 😃
And not just first, you are the first first.
Be careful!
Driving to Georgia?
Hey Rob! Your parents not using the guns any more?
They have their own, I was storing them with them during the move and house showing.
time for daddy to get all his guns and ammunition back
(I hope that creeped you out)
