I will say…it was nice to see agent 0 Davenport step up today. He was a force had a lot of pressures and could have easily had 3 or 4 sacks today. He has a wiggle to him to get back in there. I see what they saw in him.

Shanahan runs a great offense. He’s been the OC since he got there in 2017. That continuity in offensive leadership is really important. This is the 7th season with the same offense. It’s supremely mature, and easily changed/manipulated from game to game. It’s predicated on a strong O-line and power rushing attack. It is a QB friendly offense for sure.

Purdy runs the offense as designed, and as called. Shanahan likes QB’s that do that.

Seems to work pretty well when it is well executed.
To me, it only works well when Cousins makes spectacular throws and JJ makes spectacular catches. There is no rhythm to it. No timing throws, no slants. It’s herky-jerky. Fits and starts. Cousins has to wait for receivers too much. He needs to hit that back foot and get the ball out. KOC gives him such little chance in that regard. Running game is looking better, but the passing game has a lot of work to do.
As I mentioned to Lifer last week, go back and look at the Rams SB run year before last. In the middle of season, they had same problems we have, maybe worse. Sacks and interceptions everywhere – Believe Stafford set a record for Pic 6’s and they lost several in a row.
But, they didn’t back off and eventually worked thru it. Don’t think KOC will change, but strife for better execution and more use of run game.

There were a few plays with pressure in Kirks face where I didn’t see a hot route.
I could be wrong, and have to see some of the plays. But I’m pretty damn sure Kirks only option is to throw fast down field. Or take a sack.

Just me – i I had 2nd and 1, I’d go full heavy two TE and FB with JJ split wide. If they are heavy in box, audible to JJ with a lot of protection. If light, run it at them.
PA off this formation would be real good too.

I like run game today, despite the longest run of the game being 17 they averaged 6 ypc, both Mattison and Akers were efficient.
For sure the last two games we’re seeing the running game starting to get going, but on 3rd and short the O-line gets trucked and we get tackled for a loss.
The passing game is what I am not happy with. No timing routes or slants at all. None. We drop back to pass and have to wait until receivers make their moves or chuck the ball up for grabs. Their is no precision there.
But still our passing game is pretty stout. We went to Phily with no run game against that defense and put 28 on them – would have been 35 but for the JJ end zone thing.
Admit this style will appear a bit hit or miss.

I watched that. Then they were driving for the tying FG late Fields throws the ball away on 3rd down in the pocket, intentional grounding took them out of FG range they lose.

Fields had a spectacular game.
Until the end when he did what he typically does, turn the ball over with a pick and then a game sealing sack fumble.
That pick was a tough one. The TE wasn’t looking back for the ball at all until Fields let it go. He sort of stopped his route at the end, like it was a zone beater, but he was being covered in man. It looked like Fields was leading him with the ball, thinking he was going to continue the route or sit down a step later. Maybe Fields just flat missed him though.

The Panthers offense played dink and dunk offense, with tons of zero read short throws for Bryce Young that he completed in the first half. In the second half the defense came out and shut that down, and the Panthers tried some intermediate throws, but had far less success moving the ball. Then we started sacking Bryce, and also doing a better job of stuffing the run. The D was good at the end of the game when the Panthers were threatening to score, sealing the victory.
The Defense was good today.

I liked the reskins QB coming out of North Carolina a lot, wanted the Vikings to draft and develop him, I didn’t think he’d be as good as he is this soon, he’s not perfect but there’s a lot to like there.

They did. Flores is a breath of fresh air, his defense is visibly starting to click. Wish I could say the same about the offense, but KOC has a lot of work to do with that unit. They pretty much sucked all day, frankly.

Totally agree. It’s a combination of issues but they have not done their part, overall. I expected the defense to be a work in process early in the season given new DC, scheme and player turnover, including a bunch of new young starters. But the offense is mostly intact with a group of proven vets in year 2 of KOC’s scheme. They are not doing their part and are putting the D in a lot of tough situations.
