Happy hump day, everyone, and welcome to Skoloholics, your home for Minnesota Vikings Discussion. Everyday you can join us for Minnesota Vikings news, Minnesota Vikings talk, NFL news and updates, and all of those other things that you have on your mind. At Skoloholics, the real action is in the comments, so if you haven’t checked out the comments section yet, sign up and join the conversation. As always, remember to be cool to one another.
As you may have noticed, we have a new admin/author on board, as Ben has agreed to join the team & contribute however he wishes. Ben’s been contributing with his daily recap & in the comments dating way back to our days at the DN. I also took the long-overdue step of changing lifer’s status to admin. We started this so we’d have a place to hang out, and that’s kinda’ what we’ ve done. I like having the guys on board who have been with us for a while, I want the place to remain fun and I love the community we’re building Welcome aboard to both!
I’m sitting here watching the Braves. They got down 6-0 to the Cubs, but you can never count them out. Acuna just blasted an opposite field homer to make it 6-5, now Olson walked and moved to 2nd on a passed ball. Braves have the tying run in scoring position. Damn, I love baseball.
On the football front, kiddo made some amazing grabs in football practice last night. I really enjoy coaching the kiddos, they’re fun & help keep me young. If you want to talk about the Vikings (not sure why we’d want to, but I guess since this is a Vikings blog, we should), they travel to Carolina to take on the Panthers this weekend. On paper, this should be a win for the Vikings. We Viking fans laugh at this. The Minnesota Vikings EXCEL at playing poorly against weaker opponents, so I expect a close battle that will likely come down to the wire. I hope the Vikings can find a way to win this, because I’m not ready to check out on this season quite yet. At least tease me for a few more weeks.
Holy crap, Suzuki (the Cubs LF) just completely whiffed on a pop fly, and the Braves are up 7-6. I really love baseball, man.
Minnesota Vikings Discussion Topic of the Day
Week 4 is a bit early, but have you written the Vikings’ season off yet? In other words, have you given up all hope for the playoffs? I’m interested to see how many have. I’m not there yet, but I’m also not ignorant, I can see how close we are to the cliff.

Minnesota Vikings News:
Here’s the updated Braves-Cubs score, courtesy of ESPN.
As of this writing, the Twins were slaughtering the hapless A’s 11-3, here’s the final score, again from BSPN.
The Vikings cut RB Myles Gaskin, per Vikings.com.
UPDATE: The Braves have defeated the Cubs 7-6 for their MLB-leading 101st win of the season. The win also handed the Milwaukee Brewers the Central Division title, as it knocked the Cubs out of contention.
From SI.com, after leading the NFL in luck and good bounces in 2022, the Vikings are last in the luck category in 2023. It’s crazy how quickly something like that can do a 180. Last year, it’s like O’Connell had a 4 leaf clover up his behind. This year, he must be walking under a ladder on his way to the games or something. Maybe he’s stepping on the chalk line between 1st and home?
Media Selection
With all the bad luck the Vikings are having, I thought this was a good selection. Here’s Good Bye & Good Riddance To Bad Luck by none other than the immortal AC/DC. Enjoy!
Thread Guidelines
- Keep politics out. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down the rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
- Be cool to one another. Like it says above, just be civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone and that’s fine, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument not the poster.
- Keep the NSFW to a minimum. We don’t need anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
- All in all, be adults. Treat each other with respect and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. If you want to reach out about something feel free to ask. We want to have robust discussions, that’s why we’re here. Just be civil and cool to one another.
I have the book, but I need to add some of these classic movies to my collection.
OK,I was thinking Bryce Young is a rookie, and so far he’s hasn’t been great. I also thought, well Troy Aikman is a Hall of Famer, and if I recall correctly, he was the first overall pick in the 1989 draft. I also recall his first season wasn’t stellar. Aikman finished 1989 with a 0–11 record as a starter, completing 155 of 293 passes for 1,749 yards, 9 touchdowns, and 18 interceptions.
Then I thought, well let’s see when Aikman started balling out. Here are his career stats.
https://www.espn.com/nfl/player/stats/_/id/53/troy-aikman
Remember when you look at these stats Aikman is in the Hall of Fame.
I HATE Notre Dame

Carolina Panthers quarterback Bryce Young is on track to return as the starter for Sunday’s home game against the Minnesota Vikings, barring a setback with his sprained right ankle over the next couple of days, coach Frank Reich said Wednesday.
Young, who missed Sunday’s 37-27 loss at Seattle on Sunday, participated fully in Wednesday’s practice. It was his first practice since suffering a mild ankle sprain in a Week 2 Monday night loss to the New Orleans Saints.
I would assume Flores is happy. I think he’d rather go after a rookie than Dalton.
I give them a much better chance with the Red Rider than Young. The question needing answered is, if Dalton gives you the experience to win a game, especially against a Flores defense that even seasoned vets struggle against, why are you fast tracking a rookie back in to action? I have a hard time believing they think Young gives them a better chance. Maybe they think the experience is more important than the win / loss result. I guess it’s possible Young is better than Dalton but I have a hard time believing that.
That’s my take as well… our defense will probably let Young throw the ball all over the lot, and run for over 100 yards though.
Yeah good news for the Vikings, the Red Rocket is definitively better than the rookie right now
Are you guys ready for this conversation?
Sure, love good OL news
You can steal $499 in Philly and not get arrested, if any of you dudes thinking of moving. Nice town i hear.

I mean…this agent zero Davenport situation is a level of embarrassment that I can’t imagine Kewsi doesn’t look like even more of a complete incompetent fool.
The list is getting longer on his misses.
If we cut him, how much cap do we save?
The Couch?
He gets $10 million guaranteed…..
So not much.
That sucks.
Old man Harry needs his rest.
Couch. 4 snaps. he is guaranteed 10 mil. If he is inactive this week roughly 4th of season. That’s about 2.5 mil for sitting on ass.
Yikes!
I think people who post crap like this have some issues to work on.
Fields is not the second coming of Joe Montana, but he doesn’t deserve this kind of treatment.
I am amazed at the number of people trying to defend him and say he’s good and it’s all on the coaches. Those same people then turn around and scream the Zach Wilson is trash and needs to go. Fields has had a lot more of an opportunity to learn, grow and improve that Wilson. What’s the difference here?
I noted last week I couldn’t believe the amount of cover Fields got from the national media – the playbook of excuses.
LOL
Excuses for the QB?
LOL
there is no way fields would be this accurate…..
I’m dying……
BURN!
Fields would have missed wide to the right
He usually misses low. Would have just crashed into the suburbs.
He kind of looks like the guy from Scrubs.

Lol….well the shoes just keep on dropping…now that hack PJ Fleck is crying that he can’t recruit or keep players with the NIL arrangement. The one thing he can do is recruit with his vacuum cleaner sales skills. Now he’s whining he can’t compete on the recruiting trail. I can’t stand him either. Heyyyy you’re doing what I often do on work road trips now too!
Have you guys done any more podcasts for Skoloholics?
This hits hard.
I miss it, bring it back. Again, no one is forcing these people to play the game. You can go to college and work in an office, be a layer, whatever you want. But if you want to play in the NFL, you’re gonna get rocked. #BRINGBACKBLINDESIDES

Brady was talking about this with Fitz on their Monday radio show. Even Brady said it’s going too far. He said throws across the middle, especially ones that leave a receiver defenseless should be punished. It’s the QBs fault for making a bad decision and they’re getting rewarded for bad decisions. He said when they played the Ravens he would go entire games without throwing across the middle because he didn’t want Ray Lewis to kill one of his receivers.
Ray could kill a man that is established.
To be fair Ray Lewis might kill one of his WRs after the game or even in the off season.
*Allegedly
Heard him say the same thing last year.
But noticing a lot of those hits are defenseless receivers or backs. I personally don’t think that is all that tough. Now, being a LB and dropping a 230 RB in his tracks, that’s toughness. Or, a safety taking on a ball carrier head on in the open field and dropping him,

At least someone has some common sense.
All is right with the world again.
Well here we go…Jefferson turning in to Diggs and who can blame him. This franchise is a joke.
I bet he posted that while watching Burrow and reminiscing about playing with a QB of his caliber.
It’s the same ole shit….our front office can’t quit stepping on their dicks to ever build a roster good enough. Here you have the best goddam player on the planet after Mahomes and you can’t get him signed so you open up all theses bad possibilities to come to fruition. Idiots….fucking idiots.
Breathe….
Lot of reading into things.
Could be reminiscing about playing with his BFF Chase.
Could be inferring that he’s balling out and knows it and the price is going up everyday for the Vikings FO
Could be he’s realizing how special last year was
Could be he posted from the can after pushing out last nights amazing Chipotle and the sense of loss was so strong he felt the need to wax philosophic
Could be the Vikings FO is stepping on their own dicks and he walks and the days of Devin Aromashodu rear it’s ugly head.
Shiiiiiiiit
Maybe someone died
He was watching his college buddies playing together and wondering what they could do in the NFL if they teamed up. Money won’t allow it though.
There’s no way you could pay Burrow, Chase, JJ and field a competitive team.
I’m seeing comments his GF broke up with him…I don’t know if it’s true and frankly I’m tired of worrying about these millionaires and the billionaire Wilfs and this stupid fucking team. Leave. Stay. Whatever.
That’s how I feel about all the players, this team was always “competitive” but couldn’t win a SB before you, with you, and will be the same without you.
I heard he posted that while watching leaves fall of his favorite tree, and got sad.
Then he jerked off and felt better.
So everything is ok now.
It might’ve been me who wrote that
Seems like this story is probably accurate except it needs a crackhead, and a cock, somewhere in the narrative.
This is some extreme overreaction. Some folks need to only pay attention to the team on game day man.
Last night I was making fun of the new admins. Brad’s response made me believe that he thought I was serious.
Good to know!

Yes
Correct answer.
well i wouldn’t cheat on my wife so it would just be for conversation … I’d have to ask Lifer for advice on which one is the least Lib …
Not megan fox
correct
i fogot you love the trash.
you:
I do indeed. Which is a bit odd as I’m convinced there isn’t anyone more elegant and non-trashy than my wife.
halitosis?
I like ‘em trashy…. I’d never cheat on my wife, but if I were too, it’d be someone trashy so I could say:
’Didn’t mean anything honey… she was trash!’
and I wouldn’t be lying….
Scarlett, Hermione, Katniss, Megan Fox

Jennifer is the correct answer…you all lose and MT’s wife reads our comments.
Haha touché
My rank is Jennifer, Scarlett, Emma, Fox
I don’t see Alexandria Daddario in that photo….
As long as we aren’t talking politics, I don’t care which one.
Also the right answer…
That’s got to be an AI picture…
I gotta say, if anyone remembers “The Fappening” iv seen Jlaw naked, and she must have gotten a boob job because her naturals are NOT that big or full. So good for her I guess, same was Scarlet. This picture is sus. Almost all of their boobs are bigger than they have appeared before. I might be crazy though.
Scarlett had kids which could explain it. Or a boob job is quite plausible.
Probably both ha
It has to be AI. That picture of JL in a bathing suit that was going around awhile back was outed as AI.
Yeah, Scarlett is better looking in real life than that picture for sure.
Im inclined to agree, they all have weird abs too.
So nice that everything is fine and wonderful out there.
All Philly liquor stores are closed today after at least 18 were broken into overnight
https://www.inquirer.com/business/philadelphia-liquor-stores-closed-looting-20230927.html
Thought i read other stores involved. Mostly juveniles. Nice country, doing well.
Yep.
A lot of retail stores as well.
Yeah I did some research on this specific to golf retailers where this is happening and I saw it happen. Seems the cartels are shifting a focus to building crews of homeless or addicts to hit big box retailers who have a no approach no stop policy to shop lifters and send them in to steal 30+ clubs during broad daylight. Corps are too cheap to hire security for every store and it’s back firing on them big time.
I thought the police department were the ones responsible for keeping the peace? What’s a security guard going to do?
The police dept lol….with their response time? Useless.
A in store security guard is a deterrent if they know he will detain them until the police arrive.
How is a private security person going to detain anyone? With a gun?
Would any security team take on that challenge given the likely lawsuits that would be filed by prosecutors who would claim that private security doesn’t have the authority to hold private citizens hostage?
It’s incredibly difficult for a private security guard to detain anyone in a retail setting.
Casino’s/Racetracks can get away with it as many of them are operating under a different umbrella considering the amount of cash on hand – theft of whatever the defining amount constituting a felony and most guards at Casino’s/Tracks are armed. Not all, but most – which obviously makes it easier to detain someone. But I think even an armed guard in a retail setting wouldn’t have the same leeway.
Correct.
Totally unrealistic to think it’s the job of private security to detain criminals.
They target in groups now, what can you do? Sad statement on todays society.
The mob groups is impossible to stop even if you have 3 security guards with guns. Can’t shoot anyone so all you can do is nothing, close the store and deprive the local community of their service.
You see…if we lived in a socialist country you wouldn’t have this problem.
They should start installing wireless electric fences at the doors that can be activated. You try to go through you end up on the floor in piss covered pants.
You obviously have never been to a socialists country.
He could move to one…
Well what exactly is their job then, to give Cintas uniforms to launder?? They absolutely can detain and do that. They have video evidence to back them up it was a theft which is a crime and well within the rights of the business and the hired security firm to protect.
I don’t live in Philly.
I don’t drink.
Everything is fine where I live.
Liquor stores open and operational should I need one.
How would you feel about this outcome? Be honest.
I for sure don’t like the top choice and am notably lukewarm about the bottom…
I like the top better than the bottom, but am good with either.
To me it’s a choice between unprotected sex with someone with AIDS or a needlestick with someone with AIDS.
Seems an easy choice, at least with the sex you get to enjoy getting aids
Oh, to be clear, it’s a really obese and hairy guy with poor personal hygiene.
Give me the needle
too late. you had sex with an obese hairy guy. sucker
And he got AIDs!

We had an old bachelor farmer come in – had 3 T-shirt collars around his neck, a 4th one still attached to a tattered shirt.
“I wear’em until they fall off, then I put another on.”
You’re only lukewarm about sharing a needle with somebody with AIDS? At least having sex with somebody with AIDS there’s the sex part.
name of your sex tape
Lol…beat me to it.
First outcome is never happening.
2nd outcome is plausible, and I don’t like it.
Depends on the contract terms. I don’t see the Jets giving up a #1 though.
Ben, there is no chance of a trade anywhere… why do you entertain this frivolity?
Honestly I don’t know, you and I and everyone else knows he’s not getting traded but I still get sucked in.
It could be because this is a Vikings blog, Cousins is a Vikings player and dealing in the frivolous is kind of what we do here. This whole blog is frivolous. What else are we to do other than engage in hypothetical discussion?
Yeah that too
Laughing… I get it…
Bens middle name is frivolity.
Ben Frivolity Buttjammin.
I’ll take a 2024 first, but signing him as a free agent would be a horrible idea. Lets say he signs a one year deal worth $40 mil. His cap hit next year would be almost $70 mill.
(It’s a 2025 first)
Yep, that’s why I said I’d take a 2024. I don’t think they can trade that one yet though. Unless the league gives them the ok, that pick is still in limbo because Rodgers hasn’t not played 65% (or whatever the number was) of their total snaps this year.
Its 28 mil no matter what
Unless a new contract with the Vikings is signed.
Then its the dead cap of $28 million plus the amount of the new deal in 2024.
So around $70 million. Of course, it would all get pushed to future years. Again. Stupid is as stupid does.
Thus I have said, KAM isn’t signing Cousins to a contract of any sort next year. It’s fiscally too much of a burden, that he won’t be able to pan off on another team because of a no trade clause, or simply cut Cousins because of guaranteed money.
I get the situation here. It’s business.
A 2 year deal for the right price would actually make sense and keep the void year hits to $10 mill and $18 mill I believe in 2024 and 2025 respectively. With an extension, those numbers could also be moved around a bit. 12.5 of it is signing bonus so would stay spread across 2 years. Spotrac is showing $4 mill per year through 2027 so that could stay that way. A two year extension would mean a cap hit in 2024 of $10.25 mill plus new extension money and in 2025 it would be the same, leaving another $8 mill in dead money come 2026.
What’s the right money again?
Yeah… I think at the moment he’s gonna be worth at least $48M a year after this season. If he signed for $35M a year for two years, (don’t see that happening) he’d be a cap hit of over $98M for 24 and 25. Then if you take say half that and convert it to a signing bonus and spread that out over two void years, that’s $49M. Basically a cap hit of $24.5M annually.
But we aren’t getting Cousins for $35M a year.
A simple 2 year, $80 million deal with no void years, would result in cap hits of (I think):
2024 – $50.25 mill
2025 – $50.25
2026 – $8 mill (this is the one I don’t understand. It is restructured salary that shows $4 mill in each 2026 and 2027. I believe that accelerates when he is no longer under contract and the hit becomes due with the NFL.)
I think I would try for a 2 year deal, one void year. Let’s say $21 million in signing bonus, $59 million in salary. Guarantee it at signing if you have to, but there’s not a No Trade Clause. I think this would leave the hits something like (if the salary was split evenly between the two years):
2024 – $46.75 million
2025 – $46.75 million
2026 – $11 million (possibly $15 million if 2027 accelerates)
2027 – $4 million (or 0, see above)
Assuming he wouldn’t be cut or traded until after the 2024 season, the dead hits would be
2025 – $22 million
2026 (contract just expires) – either $11 million or $15 million
Go ahead and add some escalators such as a SB appearance, season MVP, SB MVP, lead the league in passing, etc. These would not affect the 2024 hit as they would be deemed “Not Likely to be Earned” so if earned in 2025, they would go towards the 2026 cap. Same with 2026/2027.
I’ll give you this, you’re a lot better at cipherin than I am.
If they extend him (prior to the start of the league year I believe?) that gets spread over 2 years. If they trade him and then re-sign him they have that hit plus whatever additional hit from the new contract.
And two void years right?
There are 2 void years, 2024 and 2025 with a total of $28.5 mill in cap hit. If they extend him, that $28.5 is spread across both years. If they don’t it all hits next year. Letting him get to free agency and then re-signing him would still make the entire $28.5 hit next year.
OK, I thought the $28.5M was for 2024, and there were three more void years after that. Maybe someone else can explain this:
https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/minnesota-vikings/kirk-cousins-9915/
yeah, 28 mil for the void years
Ridiculous… neither is going to happen. Who comes up with this? Pretty foolish.
Obvioiusly Dustin Baker, but I agree its a foolish waste of time.
Yeah…. Obvioiusly….
Enraged. Depressed. Would consider leaving the team behind for good and jumping ship.

Nice work benjamom. Where you find the time?
He probably has some co worker write it while he is buttjammin….
Here’s a stat the surprised me from another website (fantasypros.com). The 6 QBs with the most “poor” passes this year are (I’m not sure how they come about this, was looking for something else and it stood out. Also, I was going to go with the top 5, but I couldn’t leave #6 off because FTP):
Stafford has looked like his old self and they (Rams staff) say he is dialed in this year. He looked good the other night.
Thought he had 2 picks and sacked 6 times.
not his fault
Yeah, that’s why I’m not sure who or how they define a poor pass. I just came across it looking for something else and it caught my eye.
what are poor passes?
do they have a stat for piss poor passes?
ones that aren’t good. Duh

It doesn’t say.
Poor passes are passes that don’t work.
Clearly they are passes that fall below the poverty line.
I think a percentage based stat would be more accurate, like Stroud and Love throw 21% poor passes, Kirk and Stafford are like 17%.
Yeah, I didn’t feel like doing that math but I agree. I thought about it, got hungry and ate second lunch.

Listened to a good Harvard class professor interview a lady who was discussing finding ones moral narrative in life. She had 3 keys to finding it and being more productive and successful.
Thought these were worth sharing. Sometimes we get to caught up in adapting to our environments and lose our true selves and become unhappy or unfulfilled and don’t deal well with challenging obstacles in life because we don’t have a solid moral self narrative to follow.
But I is illiterate.
I’ve got a purpose for you, a special one in fact.
You got that from Father Nelson didn’t you?
People who are not self-aware are afraid to be vulnerable. They are worried that they will be judged or rejected by others, which causes them to remain unaware of their feelings, thoughts, motives, and behaviors.

Says who? That’s just a bunch of psycho mumbo jumbo. Every person I have ever known in my life that has pursued this crap is an emotional wreck. I sure want to follow their lead. Not.
Must be why the military is so horribly bad and addressing the psychological and mental issues and needs of soldiers returning from service. Just let them sit and stew with their issues and eventually blow their brains out because we’re men and men don’t, how do you say it, listen to that bunch of psycho mumbo jumbo. Sad.
It is sad. And imo a lot of that has to do with watering down the language to make it more palatable for the general public.

i didnt win the contest for a suite to the game and a chance to meet Adam and after Sunday…kinda glad
Why not? You could go root for this poverty franchise to lose in person!
And watch an exciting young rookie and see what that feels like.
He’ll be watching Andy Daulton
I think Lifer is going to the game.
Might still…plenty of cheap tickets and weather is going to be excellent
Yeah, with two loser teams you should be able to get a good deal on tix.
I do too.
He earned his way up the depth chart but was paid damn handsomely for it by the only team that gave him a shot.
Couldn’t beat man coverage to save his life last year. Can’t shell out 20 milly for that.
I’m sure he wants to play well, but no cause for revenge.
He grew up a Vikings fan so he will accidentally fumble, giving the Vikings the ball in the Red Zone and Kirk will subsequently throw a pick.
Book it !!
28 turnovers
0-17 record
MVP for sure. The Vikings couldn’t lose without him.
Also on this play the refs must not have been looking at Cleveland, he gets beat and holds but dude still gets pressure.
All I’ve read today is how much better Cleveland is. K looks like the old Ezra to me.
Same here, though I’ll say this, Schlottman has not looked any better or worse than Bradbury.
Just be happy you got me to show you all the errors you are making.
I’ve thought he’s looked ok. So I went looking for the stats. Once I realized the stats fit my narrative, I proudly displayed them.
Don’t worry though. Plenty of chances for Cleveland to pull a steamer though.
Mordor
that was about 30 seconds longer than it needed to be
noyst
‘that was about 30 seconds longer than it needed to be…’
Name of your sex tape…
Well, its better to be a bit to long than short right?
👍
from her perspective not if she was over it 30 sec ago…
damnet
How to pronounce Niger correctly…lol…yeah don’t wanna whiff on that one.
hard pass
I hear it’s ok as long as you don’t do a hard R

Thor’s Hammer!
Not sure what to make of it, but here’s the Average Time to Throw (I looked it up and it is from the snap to the throw with sacks taken out) vs. Average Intended Air Yards. Cousins plots in right next to Mahomes and Allen who like to run around which Kirk does not. Oh, and Bryce Young, woof. Based on this he holds on to the ball and throws short. Maybe the Vikings can get home this weekend if he plays. Richardson is throwing the ball quick but for the shortest average yards (just shorter than black Kirk).
Thanks for providing factual data and analysis and not just opinions and saying “Thems the facts”. Much appreciated.
So my eyes do not deceive. Kirk is getting time, he holds the ball for far too long / we call way too many long forming routes for our wide receivers. So our issues are a combo of Kirks and KOCs brains having farts in them. Adds up.
They should stop holding their farts in. This is what happens. If you hold in a fart, it travels up your spine and gives you shitty ideas.
I think this is accurate.
Good summary.
Correct
Holy shit Richardson, must just throw to the primary target or immediately check it down.
Has. Since. High. School.
I watched a few of his college games leading up to the draft and he would rarely make it to a second read downfield, pretty much always primary, take off and run, or straight to checkdown. His accuracy is also horrible. Why a guy who completed 53% of his passes as a starter went 4th overall is a mystery to me. If he ever does develop it’ll be multiple years before he is a viable QB capable of consistently throwing accurately, that is if he doesn’t continue getting injured while running.
I think it had a lot to do with Steichen – who ‘unlocked’ Jalen Hurts and Irsay (who’s a complete loose cannon) believing he could do the same with AR. They have a few solid pieces on Offense with Pittman & Pierce as well as a decent young TE. Makes sense thru that lens. Was definitely a reach – but they weren’t the only team that had him higher on the board than he should’ve been.
That’s interesting, but Hurts also played a ton in college compared to Rich, started about 3x as many games and his completion percentage was never below 60. Hurts went in the second round, which I think is where Richardson probably should have.
2nd round for sure – but his combine numbers were enough to drive up his stock. If Indy passed at 4 I think he still probably goes top 15.
Koc loves them long developing pass plays. So I’m not surprised he’s holding the ball.
Good thing Cleveland is an elite, future HOfer guard now.
KOC learned from McVay correct? Heard non-stop how awesome of a HC he was going to be because he was bringing the McVay system. If the TT is because of the system, how is it that Stafford, in substantially the same system, is significantly quicker to throw AND averages almost 1.5 yards further?
Good question.
I’ve been complaining about the long ass developing pass plays enough on here already, but that obviously can’t explain it all.
The missing piece most likely involves a certain QB the Vikes have.
Is it possible he ready the defense and processes quicker?
That’s kind of where I was going with it. If it is the offensive scheme you would expect them to have similar numbers. Either Kirk holds the ball longer on average or KOC has significantly strayed from his McVay teachings. Cousins is in the scrambling QB zone of time to throw. That’s not good for somebody who barely moves in the pocket.
Interesting stats of note:
Rogers is know for scrambling and extending plays time to throw:
2022 2.70
2021 2.63
2020 2.72
2019. 2.88
Kirk
2023. 2.89
2022. 2.83
2021. 2.76
2020. 2.88.
2019. 3.01
Hmmm. Scheme? Incompetence?
Yeah, and Kirk is right between Allen and Mahomes so far this year and they both scramble quite a bit. With Stafford being the only close comparison for offensive scheme I can think of I vote it’s Kirk.
So I looked up Stafford and kirks Time to throw on next gen stats.
Tua fastest 2.34
Wilson slowest 3.22
Stafford 2.68 ranks 21st longest.
Kirk 2.89 ranks 12th longest
So assuming all other variables are equal, Stafford processes and throws 0.21 seconds faster.
However, this might just be a sample size thingy.
2022
Time to throw pretty similar:
Kirk 2.83 vs Stafford 2.72.
Air yards in 2022 favored Kirk
Stafford 6.7
Kirk. 7.7.
I’m not sure what to make of this , but I’m sick of Kirk so fuck him.
He’s doing it.
Next Gen Stats is where I pulled the data to create the chart. I posted the entire list below for TT and IAY. I didn’t include the numbers though because it was easy to copy that column when I posted it and I wasn’t finished with my coffee yet.
I’ll probably get bored enough to save the spreadsheet I started and keep this running throughout the year. If nothing else because I’m curious now and am interested to see if any changes in these numbers lines up with what I think I’m watching.
If you get bored, do 2022.
Should give us an idea of where this is heading for 2023.
Interesting data.
I’m sure it’s not his fault though so everything you put together was just a big waste of time.
Well yeah, it’s because the Vikings don’t have good enough WRs so they’re not getting open. Kwesi should really look at upgrading the WR core and getting Kirk a decent target.
Lifer you were so on point yesterday and seeing the light, now you are back to blaming the O-line..what gives?
Lifer reserves the option to change his mind at any point in time.
Dont we all
It’s not black or white or the oline or Kirk only. The oline is not suddenly improved to the 5th best unit in the game. What’s more likely is the mean quality of oline play has dropped across the league, defenses have gotten better and tend to win early in the year while offenses get their timing down and the vikings oline has slightly improved.
I’ve never felt this level of time to move on from Kirk than I do now. Partly its the losses but its him being actually worse yr 2 in this offense and with KOC than yr 1.
I just want to get back to building a contender and it seems the Kirk narrative and effect drags this team down. Thats not his fault but its who he is.
Thats…resaonable and fair. I did read some where the league is experiencing the worst O line play since 1997 so, that adds up.
Well said.
Welcome.
I have felt this way about Kirk since December 2018. And every year he gives me more evidence that he just cannot handle things as well as the elite QBs do.
I would prefer a shit team that keeps drafting QBs chasing a unicorn vs more of this
100% agree.
It’s like the still going Kirk debate on Twitter about spiking the ball. It’s a perfect example of people wanting Kirk to be something he’s not.
KOC wanted to run a play. So Kirk did.
He ain’t deviating from the plan.
Would 9/10 vet QBs know to spike it there when they can’t hear the play? Yes.
But that’s not Kirk.
Coach wants a play, he’s gonna run one.
When a play breaks down or shit goes sideways, he’s not going to magically transform into Rogers or Wilson.
He’s gonna be Kirk, and in order to win shit has to happen in sequence.
Or shit ain’t gonna be pretty.
Remember when he played for the Redskins and right before half he went full on pants shitting beaker and took a knee instead of spiking the ball with no timeouts? LOL kinda similar to Sunday.
I posted a video of that play earlier today, so thought I’d copy/paste it here too. It’s like watching the football version of the Kirk car washing gif.
Yeah. I don’t even hate him. But there’s always something that gets fucked up when he’s around.
Not his fault though.
So there is that.
Whatever. They should have fired Zimmer and drafted Hurts like a wanted and we would not be having this conversation.
Anyone seen the line on the game?
Panthers +3.5
Viking rubes on twitter woofing it up that the Vikings have a good oline now lol…..
@Superbowl Baby!@
Fumbled Turnovers:
2022 Vikings – 8 in 17 games
2023 Vikings – 7 in 3 games
Team was due for a major correction, one of the most fortuitous teams ever last year so of course we were going to see the opposite this year.
Turnovers weren’t really a major part of that story though. The Vikings fumbled the ball 18 times last season and recovered 10 of them, slightly over 50% which is the typical norm over time (i.e. not really “luck” based). There were 6 teams that had less than 8 fumbles last year and 7 teams that were tied with the Vikings at 8…the mean was 9 fumbles lost in 2022, putting the Vikings essentially “on par” with the league average.
I get the “regression” theme (aka “major correction”) to an extent when it comes to our one possession game record in 2022, but that had less to do with turnovers and more to do with other variables.
I mean, last year Allen fumbled in the EZ, directly leading to the Vikings win, this year JJ fumbles out of the end zone, two direct 7 point swings, both kinda fluky.
I agree with those 2 plays being rare. I’m just saying, on the whole, turnovers weren’t a main factor in Vikings success. They finished +2 in TO differential, which tied them for 12th with the Packers.
They also had 2 obvious takeaways against the Colts, one of which was a sure scoop & score, that were both incorrectly blown dead based on forward progress.
Oline, Defense, KOC, KAM, Blair Walsh, Gary Anderson’s fault in that order.
gary bleepin anderson.
you chump
Hmmmm…..not sure how I feel about the ND girls signing the national anthem in Green Bay.
N.D.’s Tigirlily Gold set to make national TV appearance this week – InForum | Fargo, Moorhead and West Fargo news, weather and sports (thedickinsonpress.com)
what in tarnation is a tgirlily gold?
You know “Tigirily Gold”…..the famous country signing sister duo from North Dakota. Their “Shoot Tequilia” song is actually pretty decent.
I don’t intentionally listen to any music made since like the 90’s unless I stumble upon something. I must have never stumbled upon them cause I am clueless to their existence.
I’ve never heard of them either but I do know they wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for the Beatles.
Yeah, if you go back through history, beetles the insect did not exist until the beatles were formed
Great minds, right? 🍻
Of course they would be nothing without the influence of the Beatles.
I was looking for this play.
KOC loves these long developing pass plays on 3rd and medium.
Why not try a few quick outs or a slant?
Our priority should be getting a first down. Often here Kirks first read is a 15+ yard play.
Looks to me like Addison would have been the better target.
Yeah. I don’t get that either. I’m all for dialing up a shot play on 1st down, but 3rd and 6 calls for some sort of slant or ‘sticks’ route to move the chains. I’m not saying to not have the deep shot in the progression, but it shouldn’t be first read on 3rd and manageable.
100% agree here. Send one guy on a shot play. It also can clear out a safety for hock or someone else underneath.
But put the priority and first reads towards a quicker hitting route with a higher probability of getting the first down.
Longer developing plays also get Kirk hit more often.
I like running a hi-lo combo in that situation. Defense looking to protect the sticks so I’d run hitches with some sort of slip/wheel to keep the safety honest. If pass pro is adequate and you draw coverage up to protect the sticks you should have your shot play with the slip/wheel – but on 3rd and 6 the priority has got to be moving the chains.
I don’t think that’s their philosophy – you get a shot, take it Not sure they are necessarily trying to move the sticks
I think you’re right. They tend to take the shot plays.
I would just like to move the chains here. JJ was in double coverage, and that’s a tough throw 30+ yards down field
Just me but I think there is sort of a reason.
In side the red zone, things get tough for an offense.
Look at our offense – not a strong line, not a mobile QB, not a power runner and our WR’s are small. Those really make it tough for an offense.
But from farther out, take the shot
Just a thought
Good point. I’m not sure what KOCs rational is here, but there’s definitely a pattern.
This is what he likes to do, and when it works you get a big ass play.
So you might be onto something
Look at our bread and butter play. Run two vertical routes and then have JJ run a deep crossing drag route. That is really a time consuming play.
Usually have to pay extra for that
He had the RB on a protection release, wide open just before he threw the ball.
Saw that too – looked like a ‘chip n slip’ – with a lot of space for YAC
Also an option. But Kirk is looking at JJ who technically is open, but that is a difficult throw to make.
In this scenario I think Kirk is supposed to take the shot play if it’s there.
Better had he just checked it down.
Cue the boos for a check down.
I’d never boo a 1st down…
Don’t much like play design either. Even the 4th and 6 they hit for a TD later was slow developing.
It was. Difference was Cousins had adequate time to find KJ.
Yep. In person I was really struck by how fast the chargers were getting the ball out compared to the Vikings.
Seemed like they could hit a 7 yard slant in under 2 seconds over and over. No time for the blitz to get home.
As soon as Hebert hit his spot on the drop back, the ball was out.
Then Kirk is just standing there waiting for the routes to develop. By design.
This is probably why we have a decently graded line in pass pro but also Kirk getting hit a lot.
You could argue a few plays that Kirk holds the ball a bit too long, but there’s also a lot of plays like this as well.
I think our defensive plan was flawed. If you are rushing 6, you need to play tight man to take a way the quick throws. We rushed 6, played soft and gave up the quick throws all day.
For us, KOC likes to throw it down the field.
You’re right about our D plan.
Should have thrown it to KJ, the DB was 5+ yards downfield when KJ got to the sticks, or Addison had a step.
I think it’s KOCs philosophy to take a shot here.
Maybe it was all the years watching Zimmer play it safe, but I’d prefer not throwing 30ish yards down field ond 3rd and 6 when there’s much easier passes to make.
Or maybe they’re implementing the JJ ratio?
The randy ratio was ridiculous
I mean Tice is a complete goober so of course he’d do something like that
Addison had his guy beat pretty clean.
In person it looked like Addison was open.
I was pissed we pushed the ball down field here and the replay pretty much confirmed what I thought.
Maybe dial the aggression back one notch?
Cousins had 3.5 seconds to throw the ball there.
Yep. Thats part of why I don’t really like these play calls in this down and distance. Those deep routes need that time to develop. Puts a lot of stress on the O line.
TOUCHDOWNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN ADDISONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNN
Incorrect – Safety was covering high until the ball left Cousins’ hand towards JJ. He would have made things very difficult for JA to catch it.
I don’t think so. Addison had better outside leverage on the safety than JJ does because he had more field to work with between him and the sideline.
Hiring admins
You need a job? I can set up an interview with an Admin although I don’t like your chances.
No thanks. I’m retired and happily divorced. Carry on.
I’d make a great Admin. Just like I’d make a great juror…. I can spot guilty people from a mile away.
Yup. Trustworthiness.
It’s Kirktober soon. Stackin’ dubbs here we come.
Wonder if Julie picks out his knife for him?
I buy that mask if it was for sale BTW.
Absolutely. About a million uses year round with that thing.
Please no…getting .500 would derail the next 10 years for this team. Just…sliiiide into that top 10 pick
Yay!!!! Let’s actively pursue being losers!!!
Do you trust Queasy to get that pick right? I don’t.
Our line is actually decent?
Eye test says something quite different…
That’s on Kurt tbh
I’m guessing the raw numbers of how many pressures or hits the oline has given up is also high considering they throw the ball 80% of the time.
Where’s NVF?
This doesn’t support his usual take
He’s out there…. Cutting and pasting.
Screw that stat.
I want to blame the OL for the problems.
