Minnesota Vikings Discussion Topic of the Day

Next up, the Vikings travel to Chicago to take on the Bears. This has always been a tough venue for the Vikings, so what do you put their chances at getting a W in the Windy City this coming weekend? 50/50? Higher? Lower?

Minnesota Vikings News:

SI.com comments on the improved play from the Minnesota Vikings’ O-line.

The Vikings are being cautious with JJ as he deals with a hamstring injury, per USA Today. I sure as hades hope they are.

NFL.com says that Justin Jefferson will seek ‘multiple options’ on how to deal with his hamstring. Just don’t use the option that Sharrif Floyd used, mmmmkay?

Travis Swifty is being called out for a punch and dirty block on Sunday, according to Sports Illustrated.

Thread Guidelines

  • Keep politics out. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down the rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
  • Be cool to one another. Like it says above, just be civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone and that’s fine, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument not the poster.
  • Keep the NSFW to a minimum. We don’t need anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
  • All in all, be adults. Treat each other with respect and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. If you want to reach out about something feel free to ask. We want to have robust discussions, that’s why we’re here. Just be civil and cool to one another.

The political discussions were pretty rational since there was no mental and emotional unstable people present.

Kirk discussion was a bit more tense but not personal as BSF and NLNVF were not here to insult.

They say some good comes from all things _ I hope so.
Things have not exactly gone the Vikings way this season, and now the JJ news.
But, in the off season we picked up a big TE and we carry a fullback. And perhaps more importantly, our line is blocking near the top of the league.
So, seems like a little Zimmerball might be a good receipt right now. We seem to have the horses and can’t think of a better time.

Updated Time to Throw vs. Intended Air Yards. Kirk is right at average for intended distance and still in the neighborhood of scrambling or just bad QBs for time to throw. Burrow, Dak and Lawrence occupy the yucky corner still. As a season average Burrow is not surprising with the injury.

Why are they “God’s chosen people”? Ever looked into that? From what I understand from talking with religion professors in college is the history of Yaweh from Polytheism to Henotheism. The Polytheistic ways went to Henotheistic ways of believing in many gods but only worshipping one. That’s where it says Abraham was the first to worship in 1 god. They believed in many but worshipped one. So the Jews chose Yahweh and Yahweh chose the Jews as their chosen people. After many generations that turned into the the one and only true god.

They are all a bunch of lying swindlers but one of the things Trump taught us is you can just flat out lie. I mean they have always lied but Trump on a Monday would be like, “Fuck squirrels, those furry little bastards should all be put in a cage and executed IMMEDIATLY!!!” Next day when questioned on the subject because he got blowback, he’d go, “No one loves squirrels more than me, I love squirrels.” They would ask about what he said the day before quoting him and he’d go, “I never said that, you are fake news!”

What we learned is two fold and is a big issue in America and it is only going to get worse

  1. Since identity politics is what runs this country. Either side can blatantly lie, cheat, and swindle because what’s the risk? There isn’t one. Dems will just support Biden in this. The same goes for Repubs when Trump blatantly lies. It doesn’t lose them votes because the ones who already dislike them are already not voting for them and Dems and Repubs are so indoctrinated to their side that their side is never wrong and the other side is never right.
  2. The media cycle will exhaust whatever thing you lied about this time especially if you just lie and have something come up again you just keep that cycle going. Man that was a brilliant move that all politicians have always done but Trump showed the way at mastering that. Seriously.

I am saying he learned to play the game at a higher level than anyone before him. He learned to beat the media at their own twisted game. Great for him and I applaud him for that… terrible for the country mainly because the first point I pointed out. Republicans turn a blind eye to Trumps lies and swindles just like Dems do to Biden… also Biden turns a blind eye to it… he might be blind… we don’t know just like he doesn’t know haha.

Edgecrusher71
Reply to  freezeyface
10 October 2023 12:56 pm

I just saw this coming, I saw the Dems getting worse about denying reality because while Dems and Repubs have always done this Trump really learned to just keep doing it because he has mastered how the media does things and people will forget about your last big blatant lie if you just keep doing having and doing things that pop up in the media because people will just keep forgetting about the last thing you did because the media will drop the last thing you did for the next thing. It is bad, it’s very bad. I wasn’t trying to single you out. But when I see people or in a place that is usually very one sided I always have to bring up the other side because so many think only the other side is guilty when really it’s two wings of the the same nut and divided we’re all screwed haha.

Now as far as the softening of child rearing in the 90s where everybody was special and got a trophy shit… that had nothing to do with the education system or liberals. That was a movement by soft ass child psychologists.

When they change the stories to fit their narrative is where it starts. For example: In the Three Little Pigs, originally version, the first two pigs were eaten by the big bad wolf, which taught children to give there all in whatever task is placed before them, or suffer the consequences.

In the current version the first pig runs to the second pig’s house, when his gets blown down, by the wolf. Then both the first pig and second pig run to the third pigs house when the wolf blows the second pig’s house down. This teaches children that you don’t have to try your hardest, there will be somebody, who has tried hard, there to take care of you.

No way the first 2 pigs are outrunning the wolf. Somebody should write a version where one of the first pigs pulls out an AR and then they all go to the third pigs house for a BBQ because he has the nicest smoker and patio. Teach kids to stand up for themselves when attacked by a wolf.

Don’t get me wrong the Left Woke culture picked that torch up and turned it into a flame thrower but if we are going to say well the issue stems from way back when… it was the Moral Majority right that wanted everything in literature and the alike softened of outright banned because kids couldn’t handle it.

You can politicize if you want but you’d be wrong. It stemmed from a good place of trying to make kids feel good about themselves that it would develop their self worth and confidence etc… They were absolutely wrong, but I truly think there is no exact right way, it depends on the kid. There are some subjective things you can be outright too harsh or too soft but a lot of it depends on the kid.

I appreciate your time (funding) to start and keep this place going. With that in mind, a thought or so and they will probably not be popular to some.
I was reading yesterday where BSF stopped posting because every post turns into Kirk, Kirk, etc. (he said it better than me). So, he stopped and left. A loss because he provides good football content – rather impartial. I grow thru days like that also, every day the shit on Cousins stuff.
Where I live there is a group of people that are obsessed with dumping on Trump. In a similar way, there appears some of the same here – day in day out.
Now, I’m sure this is a lot of fun for the folks doing so, and you want folks to have fun, but there’s a downside to this. It turns some off and I would wonder what a potential new poster might think.
Sorry, didn’t express this very well. Just think as a football site, when most of the actual football discussions evolve into dump on the QB – that’s not good for growth. And I feel like a bit of an ass, pointing out a problem without any type of solution.

What I find interesting is the entire off-season it was talked about how the OL and defense needed to improve and we’d be legit contenders. Myself included.

well guess what? They have. By leaps and bounds. OL is top 10 by most metrics and top 10 by others.

defense is top 15.

the Vikings see 1-4.

Could they he 5-0? Sure, but they aren’t.

statistically Kirk is having a tremendous season, like I said he would, but you can also see where some things ARE his fault.

refusing to acknowledge it and trying to shift blame is a poor argument.

there is a lot of blame tk go around, but the two main knocks on what Kirk “needed” for this team to succeed have improved.

yet the team is worse.

kirk hasn’t commit every turnover, or penalty, or blown coverage. But when you’re the QB, you’re “that guy” You’re the team leader, you’re the one they follow.

just like 4&8 in the playoffs, the sack on the Hail Mary was on him.

hes a good QB, he’s just not it anymore. The excuses for “why he can’t” are getting less and less each week.

pretty soon you’re going to have to say it’s him.

Well, go back and read some of my threads about the OL and defense. The very morning after the Eagles game with everyone going ape, I was praising the line and the defense for their play. Have done so all year. We are a better team right now because our line and defense is better.
I maintain we are 1-4 versus 4-1 because we can’t hold on to and or catch the ball! You want to beat the champs – you have to catch that screen pass.
And to me, Kirk is not having a great year, regardless of stats. His accuracy is off. But I still expect NFL receivers to catch balls.
Now, my broader point stands. What do you have – 12 -15 regular posters. And 3-4 of them use every football thread to shit on the QB. If you think that is a formula for growth, OK. I do not. I don’t know who is right, but I see people leaving and clearly not posting as much.

“Statistically” he’s having a great year.

Analytically he is off.

he’s getting older and you can’t beat Father Time.

he’s a good QB, but as this year is showing, there are some things he can’t overcome that ARE in his control.

I can’t speak for others, just myself, but anywhere you go on social media or blogs has this happening. Some on larger and some on smaller scales.

They were close enough, had he NOT been sacked he could have put enough air under it to let the WRs get down there.

My 2c.

There’s an equal group saying positive things about him. You’re going to get that anywhere you go, and on whatever topic someone starts a conversation – scheme, defense, OL, etc.

Eliminating football talk from a football discussion site just because you don’t want to hear it is not only counterproductive it’s censorship.

What is REALLY driving people away is not the disagreement, it’s the way people disagree. Devolving to insults is grade school mentality, and it’s sad that people have to let it get that far. We’re all Vikings fans, we all want the same result, we just have differing opinions on what needs to be accomplished to effect that result.

There are relatively few things that come up for new subject matter, so naturally topics will be revisited often, but yeah, I see how scripted every day can be.

I like reading your contributions. You have good observations. You are well-spoken, and you don’t resort to calling names because someone has a different opinion. Hang in there.

1-4 is a result of several things. In no particular order:

  • Strength of schedule – we’re playing GOOD teams – 4/5 were in the playoffs or won the SB
  • Fumbles/INTs – turning the ball over takes points away from you and gives them to the opponent
  • Kirk is a little off on his throws this season – some outright bad, some on the very edge of catch radius making it difficult
  • Drops – the players are either having trouble with coming down with the challenging catches, or a lack of focus causes an outright drop of an easy catch
  • Widely varying OL play – stats say they are doing better, but Kirk still getting planted too often, especially in do-or-die situations
  • Substandard time management by KOC, questionable passing scheme, and ill-advised challenges
  • Penalties – 22 penalties thus far – mostly spread out to one per player, but O’niell has 5 of his own (2 false starts, 3 holding)

4 of 7 of those are things that have little to do with Kirk. 3 of them (INTs, poor throwing accuracy, and drops of challenging throws) are influenced by his play.

What’s the easiest thing to correct? Fumbles and drops.
Strength of schedule cannot be controlled.
We may be starting to see Father Time catch up to Kirk.
KOC is gonna KOC.
OL is improving, but how much would they improve immediately with Risner on the field?

Fans will complain unless the team wins.

I say Kirk sucks all the time.
Truth is, Kirk is a very good pocket passer QB with an excellent arm when things go according to script.
Since December 2018 I have called for a change because of Kirk’s inability to improvise.

I am a fan, and I am frustrated. No big deal. I do not personally attack people that disagree with me. I do not rage quit a site because people pile on the kirk love, I just ignore it and move on.

Moving on is what this team will finally do. 12 more games with Kirk at QB, then I can have hope again.

Being the Vikings, the hope will be short lived.

i can already see it now…

vikings move on from kirk, draft a qb, we somehow draft the worst one, we suck forever again…

meanwhile kirk signs with green bay, wins the superbowl in his first season there, has a special on netflix to show everyone how his lombardi shelf finally has a trophy in it, and it pans to his bathroom and the toilet paper is purple and gold.

Vikings will move on from Kirk, but unless he goes to a team as stacked as the 49rs, the only way he gets a lombardi trophy is as a backup QB on a great team.

I still think Cousins signs with Vikings because he won’t have $40 million fully guaranteed offers from anybody. I hope he does and is gone. He had 6 years to make it happen.

I just do not think that they want him around.
He is not playing as well as he has in the past, and will be 36.
Time to move on, but I am not the GM

After 6 years and one playoff win, it really is time to move on and rebuild.
Even the Wilf’s gotta see that.

Because it was a back handed way to get at Cousins supporters to say you can’t use OL play as an excuse.
Your question – will probably be Cousins holds the ball to long.
Now, the Oline has improved as well as the defense.
But, if you can’t hold on to or catch the ball well these stats take a back seat.

I’m not a fan of any of our rivals, however, I would be more likely to cheer for the Lions as they have been such a horrible team for so long. Plus it would be nice to hear about someone else than to listen to the non-stop slobber fest over the Eagles and the 49ers by the national media.

I think the 49rs are the best team currently, and there is a big drop off after them. Eagles included.
I have no issues rooting for the Lions and Bears when they are not playing the Vikings.

I enjoy any time the Packers lose. I enjoyed the game, would have checked out if the Packers were winning. Makes it even better that the Raiders aren’t very good. I am definitely rooting for the Lions and I enjoy watching the 49ers. Those studs in the trenches and that defense are my kind of football. Really wish someone would beat the Eagles, though, I hate them.

QB – holds ball too long
KOC – designs plays that take too long to develop
IOL – sucks still, so we have to keep TEs in to help block leaving 2 passing routes to throw to
Composite line grade – Our tackles are so good there numbers make up for Ingram

I will say, our Oline does look much improved over the last few years, but there are several factors as to why Kirk gets hit so much.

I will say Kirk did have a few plays on Sunday that he normally does not make. The shuttle pass that was called back for holding, and the pocket escape to the right where he threw for the first down, are a couple.

We have been doing much better at moving the line on short yardage plays, than the last few years. It just seems like we are letting the stunt/blitz through, when everyone in the country knows it is coming.
