One more day until Vikings football! The Vikings play Saturday football against the Bengals in Cincinnati this week. This is a huge game for the Vikings if they want to make a push for the NFC North. If they can come out of Cincinnati with a W, they’ll be 2 games behind the Lions (or one game, depending what the Lions do against the Broncos) with two head-to-head games remaining. With the way the Lions have been playing lately, it would be a great time for the Vikings offense to finally find a way to ‘click’, and get this team hot heading into the end of the regular season and into the playoffs.

Hey bow/ben/everyone, I have a weekend thread scheduled to post at 3am, and a game thread scheduled to post at 11 am.
Wow, this was the first day where I’ve had free time in quite a while. I finished up my monthly inspections today by lunch time. I actually had time to make calls and check on health insurance coverage, AND I got a chance to chill in the hot tub & enjoy an Ashton 8-9-8 before kiddo got home from school. It’s been a good day.

For the golfers out there, the PNC Champioship is being played just outside Orlando tomorrow and Sunday. This started off as a father and son duo team event many years ago, and the stipulation was one of the players (father or son) had to be a Major championship winner, or have won the Players championship.
Recently they are pushing to get more women involved so it’s not father and son anymore. Steve Stricker has never won the Players, or a Major, and he has two daughters so he was resigned to the fact he would never be able to play in the event. He got an invite this year though, and his 17 year old daughter is going to play. He laughed and said he got into the tournament on her coattails.
Coverage is on Peacock starting at 8:15 a.m. tomorrow, and Tiger tees off with his son Charlie at 8:22. Coincidence? I think not.
JR can tell you it’s supposed to be horrible tomorrow with cold, rainy, windy weather.

I think they were always willing to go past 2nd base, they just need less encouragement these days.

I coached girls basketball as well.
The biggest thing I saw was that girls just have to work at being aggressive. It just doesn’t come naturally. There were no trannies around when I coached.

5 o’clock is absolutely the worst time, Friday though are usually the best day of the week, seems its the most common day everyone takes off, before covid it was even worse and traffic started at like 6:30am but with so many people working remote now that’s been one benefit.
I loved that their solution was to reduce Main St from 4 lanes to 2 lanes with the suicide lane in the middle. Brilliant!
Yup! Removing lanes, and delaying the install of round abouts where necessary, changing one ways to two ways its a cluster. Washington needs to be a four lane but that will never happen with the housing on it.
I was on the crew when we poured the new concrete for Washington. The historical society people wouldn’t allow them to expand it to four lanes because we’d have had to cut trees down. Those old fucks were out there watching us when we set up the forms to pour the curb & gutter just to make sure we didn’t cut any tree roots. I wanted to pour concrete on their blue-haired heads.

Yep, totally serious. That was back in 2006-2007, I was pouring concrete for Knife River back then, we poured that entire street that year. Colored and stamped concrete on the road, which is another wasted expense.
Wow, yeah agreed. Man if that was a 4 lane, with turning lanes, traffic would cruise. My first apartment when I was in college was way up on 43rd and I went to Mary, so I took Washington to express way and out very often. I was always late for me 8 or 9am classes because of Traffic.
There’s no decent north-south route. The one-ways are okay, but State St is horrible, mainly because Bismarck drivers are some of the worst drivers on earth (2nd to Minnesota drivers, who are the worst on earth).
35 mph speed limit on State St., and it’s four lanes wide. You’ll get four mouth-breathing, inbred morans all driving side to side at 20 mph. They need to make it legal to do the PITT maneuver in situations like that, and I’m not joking.
Happens everywhere. The Capital Beltway is jammed 20 hours a day every day. Built an alternative route and residents petitioned to reduce from six to four lanes to save trees and land. They won and the traffic is some of the worst in the country.
From memory, the only time that traffic isn’t intolerable is between the hours of 1am and 4am.

Yeah, don’t worry, you’ll be walking like normal within a day. BULL. My wife had a big cat at the time and that bastard jumped off the back of the couch onto my stomach in the middle of the night a night or two after. By far the worst pain I’ve ever felt. Couldn’t even scream. Noises came out of my mouth but I don’t know what they were.
Puts fear merely into the thought of a cough or a sneeze. And then there’s the first bowel movement – we’ll let Ben just think about that.

Y0u won’t blow the stitches, but it will get your attention.
Yeah, I think the longest incision I had was maybe 1/2 an inch with 2 smaller ones but I still felt like I’d been gutted.
Oh and the year or so of randomly moving just right that you tear a little scar tissue. No pain but an odd sensation with immediate fear that you tore something bad.
I actually had two open surgeries. And, both came back about a year later. Now I have enough mesh in me for a fishing net. A lot of scar tissue from all the operations, but fairly pain free now.
I had both sides repaired at the same time. One they pinned the mesh in place and the other if I remember right was just put between 2 muscles and relied on scar tissue to form and hold it in place so I think that would break up a little once in awhile and cause a second or two of panic.
My last hopefully for good, was two on one side and one on the other.
And because it was done laprascopically (sp) my balls were the size of limes the next day. I had to walk around bent over holding my crotch.
Fun times.
So much fun. Don’t put anything funny on the TV. I think the first 24-48 hours for me was take pain pills, sleep for 5 hours, wake up and stare at the clock for an hour until I could take another one, rinse, repeat.

Yeah, even taking a leak is hard. You gotta let gravity do most of the work because your abs will tell you to fuck right off. You’ll learn how much extra pressure you really add going number 1.

I’ve always wondered when I’ve went to the clinic if the pain scale they have really means anything to the doctor or if they just ask because they have to. I mean, what I call a 5 some people are going to call an 8. Are the doctors good at reading somebody’s pain tolerance or is the question merely a formality?
More or less a formality. I mean if someone tells me after a biopsy they are at an 8 and they are writhing around with tachycardia and hypertension I’m going to take notice. But I lost count of how many people I did pain injections on that listened to my spiel “and 10 would be like someone was holding a blowtorch to your skin” that calmly sat there and said “oh it’s a 11”. Okey dokey fun times.
That’s kind of what I figured.
I’ve had hernia repairs, knee replacement, and by far the most pain was setting a broken collarbone (through the skin ) with no meds.

Do you know much from a medical standpoint about the neck collar things a lot of NFL players are wearing now? They seem kind of hoaxy to me from the little information I found online about em.
Something about squeezing the jugular veins to increase extra-axial fluid volume in the cranium, Monro-Kellie doctrine.
Yeah, just seems gimmicky to me. Especially when they repeatedly say on their website that they are meant for long term protection that can’t really be verified without massive long term case studies. If they work its a great idea, I’m just skeptical.

I work in NE MPLS and there are several homeless encampments in the neighborhood, I’ve seen all kinds of stuff, a camper that exploded overnight cause they were cooking meth in it, dude taking a dump in broad daylight, people living in their car by the coffee shop and used needles around it. Its not somewhere I’d ever go at night

Has anyone ever been in the situation where they came close to dropping trou in public? I remember (ironically) waiting in the Taco John drive through gonna take home lunch for my wife and I and I thought it was going to happen right there in the seat of her Celica…cold sweat and supreme sphincter control got me to the home toilet right when the dam broke.

Late to the party but I’m amazed over two years later my wife and I are still speaking to one another let alone sleeping together and fooling around from time to time given that we live in a one room studio STILL.
I like breakfast food but dont eat breakfast. For those of you who are looking to lose weight and trim up, I recommend it. The fasting period between your 6pm supper and your noon lunch is beneficial. You can go a few hours in the AM with out eating, youll be fine. Pig out at lunch because thats when you and your stomach are most active, have a light supper. You’ll shed the lbs. Work out on top of that and you will shed more weight on top of that. This has been your daily life hack tip, provided by im hungover and drinking coffee.

I know it man, everyone’s body and metabolism are different, im lucky I need a few hours for my body to warm up before my apatite comes, im never hungry when I get up. So its easier for me, probably harder for others. But if you make it habit, youd probably lose the appetite in the AM. To each their own!
What you suggest is really good stuff and works quite well for many people (like a 14 -18 fast period).
I’m an idiot and just like to eat too much – don’t snack, but go at it during meals. My solution was literally to run my ass off, just burn it off faster than I took in (some alcohol was part of the equation too).

Thanks! I think we all like to eat, its part of the American lifestyle haha. Yup, end of the day, burning more calories than you take in will always lead to weight loss. How you do that is up to you. Iv been calorie counting for about a year, try to keep it under 2000 if possible, but I could be eating 2500-3000 and be fine, I think my daily sedentary burn is around 1900 then if I work out that day its at least 500 more burned. Iv maintained my healthy weight 145-150 for half a year. Im 5’9 and lanky.
i did a 23:1 fast for about 2 months and now i’m on a 18:6 (no eating 6pm to noon the next day and that has really been a help at dropping some good weight and controlling my snacking

The meeting leader is obligated to control those kinds of issues though. Just saying, “Tina, this isn’t something the group needs to be held up on. Let’s talk later. Come by my office and we can go over it together.” will move things forward sufficiently.
I always liked meetings, because it gave me a chance to connect with folks. Yes, we have to get the business at hand addressed, but I liked the ability to just interact with the team and provide my perspective. People like to be noticed too. Just a couple words on something they recently worked on let’s them know you see them, and they are valuable to you.
Yeah, if I’m leading the meeting I’ll do just that. I’m more tolerant of people sharing perspectives and stuff during the meeting, when its the end its time to ask a valid question end the meeting.

I kind of suck at running meetings…thankfully an individual on my leadership team is very good at it, so I let her run most meetings…55 minute scheduled meetings, never go over, always leave with action items, track stuff from the last meetings…She is very good.
We have a lot of afternoon meetings but the end of the day is a gray area and not a hard time. I’ve been here till 6 or 7 before and I normally come in about the same in the morning.

Meeting was awful though, Literally could have been a 5 minute phone conversation with one guy to clarify a couple things on a grant we were awarded, but since these are city of MPLS bureaucrats we have to do a zoom meeting with 4 people. They literally had 3 questions I could have answered in 5 minutes, but because these are people who just love to hear themselves talk, we had to spend 15 minutes introducing ourselves and backgrounds, etc at the beginning. Then I had to listen to them explain the grant to me in detail, which I didn’t need, I read the damn thing when it was released, I wrote our damn application for the grant and its a grant we’d had recently and it hasn’t changed. They then ask me the three questions, that quite frankly were stupid to begin with as they were in the grant application, not only do they ask the questions but before doing so one guy especially goes into great detail and long windedness about why they are asking the question. A five minute conversation turned into over an hour long video call just so a gov’t employee can feel important and justify his employment. Also, this was at the end of the day but some people don’t care/respect that.

Dog is a delicacy in Korea, it is served at holidays like their version of Thanksgiving aka ‘Chuseok’.
Soldiers were concerned about accidentally getting served it when eating a a Korean restaurant/food stand. But as it is more expensive they are not going to randomly serve it to anyone who doesn’t order it.
I saw a video of dogs penned and then dragged out by a lasso only to be conked on the head and burnt with a flame to prepare them for street market, think it was in Indonesia. One of those things I cannot unsee, especially the part where the conking doesn’t work.
Went jogging in Korea one autumn and dogs barking as I ran by.
Ran again a couple of days after Chuseok and no dogs.

My concern with our defense is our offense. Even a great defense can make mistakes when it has been on the field for so long because our offense can’t do anything. Hopefully with a full week of practice, Mullens can get a rhythm going.
Anything will be an improvement over Dobbs’ last three games.
In general, running QB’s are running QB’s for one reason. They aren’t all that great throwing the ball. Whether it’s processing the defensive alignments and determining where best to go with the ball. or having the arm talent to deliver the ball (or both), running QB’s run because they aren’t good at passing.
The offense has carried this team for 5 seasons. In all those years the one thing that was consistently good about the Vikings was the passing game. That’s it. Nothing else was consistently good.
Somehow we need to get that passing game working again so we can compliment the defense. Mullens can throw the ball. Given a clean pocket he can get the job done.
Hopefully that is what they are working on all this week in practice. And you will notice I finally spelled Mullens’ name correctly (I think).

I would agree. However, Flores last year in Miami was impressive imo. Finished 9-8 after starting 1-7 and just missed the playoffs – all while dealing with the alleged ‘get paid to lose’ scheme cooked up by ownership (who knows if that’s true, but a distraction regardless) I’m guessing he gets another HC shot sooner rather than later.
