Thread Guidelines

  • Keep politics out. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down the rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
  • Be cool to one another. Like it says above, just be civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone and that’s fine, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument not the poster.
  • Keep the NSFW to a minimum. We don’t need anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
  • All in all, be adults. Treat each other with respect and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. If you want to reach out about something feel free to ask. We want to have robust discussions, that’s why we’re here. Just be civil and cool to one another.

David Tepper’s statement after being fined $300,000 by the league:

“I am deeply passionate about this team and regret my behavior on Sunday. I should have let NFL stadium security handle any issues that arose. I respect the NFL’s code of conduct and accept the League’s discipline for my behavior.”

What’s odd to me is, not one media source reflected on what exactly transpired, to lead to this event. Did someone throw something into Tepper’s box… maybe at him personally? All you see is what he did. As if it was totally unprovoked. Was it though?

I assumed he was getting razzed about the pathetic team that he owns.

So as they say in Prison, ‘it was a respect issue’.

I truly hate those moments when I and I alone, no credit to any deity, am able to briefly and miraculously discern the cure for cancer and describe it in detail in a dictated note, followed by elucidation of the winning powerball numbers for tomorrow night, only to find out the stupid speech recognition microphone has stopped working and needs to be unplugged and plugged back in.

I am grateful, however, that this morning on the way to work I finally glimpsed a glimmer of sunshine reddening the eastern sky over the Makoshika badlands. My vampire tenure cometh to an end.

Same is true of alcohol. Time and time and time again I hear men tell me that they drink 10-15 beers five or six nights a week but for them 12 beers is like 2 to normal people. Uh huh. May as well swallow a bottle of acetaminophen. (please don’t).

15 bottles of Coke is bad. 15 bottles of water is bad. 15 bottles of beer is bad.

The speech program I use is called PowerScribe. Remission means a temporary reprieve. In oncology remission might be partial (ie partial treatment response canker gets smaller) or complete (ie canker is gone). Some docs say complete remission for 5 years or more is a cure.

My wife had grade 1 (ie minimally invasive) endometrial carcinoma. She had her lady bits removed. Just had her 1 year pelvic check and all looks good. I consider her cured by resection but there are rare cases of it coming back after 1 year of ned (no evidence of disease), usually locally, but sometimes metastatic.

The Vikings worked out six players today:

LB – Abraham Beauplan
QB – Jarrett Guarantano
DB – Tiawan Mullen
WR – Makai Polk
OT – Alex Taylor
WR – Malik Turner

They signed Beauplan to a contract after the workout.

So we got that going for us.

The Curse of Oak Island Season 11 Episode 8, titled “A Void at All Costs,” airs on History at 9:00 p.m. tonight. In this installment, the Oak Island team encounters a frustrating setback (this is my shocked face) that keeps them on their toes. But according to the promo, “little do they know that this setback might just be the precursor to a groundbreaking discovery.”

Spoiler… they don’t find the treasure.

I don’t know… scientists state “facts” about how old things are in billions of years, like there is really any legitimate way to know that, even to the accuracy of tens of thousands of years is IMO ridiculous. Carbon dating is not that accurate, as we have no controls from known time periods of that age, and we are at best extrapolating to exponential degrees.

TMI but you know MT, I was a late bloomer as I skipped a grade but I delayed having intercourse (or feeling a boob or any exciting stuff) until I was in my third year of college because I was concerned I would end up a teenage dad (I am also hideously ugly, have Tourette’s syndrome and eschew deodorant)…my “first” girlfriend there was a moment early on when the condom broke (I was aware and put on a new one but you never know about those swimmers). She was subsequently two weeks late and while I put on a brave face inside I was screaming. I somehow held in the loud cheer when she told me her period had started. All I could hear was my dad’s lecture For G..’s sake don’t marry the first girl you screw.

Can’t say why, happened at random times in random positions.

I am not offended my homosexual females, in fact I am friends with some. I don’t know any of my evangelical friends who are offended….we are offended by their demands that our church marry them, though, but that is a whole other topic.

That’s fair. But I do know more than a few evangelicals who are very judgmental towards any of the LGBTQIA+ ABCDEFG community. Churches should marry whomever they feel should be married in their church. But the flip side is the government is not afforded the same rights to ban marriages. Two consenting adults want to be get married… it’s America, you have the freedom to do so.

It is interesting putting aside all the other things that are banned in Leviticus we don’t seem to give a shit about and Jesus never said anything about homosexuality which is interesting since it’s such a big topic for many… even putting that aside. Notice the bible never said shit about lesbians… just man lie with a man? Why? Because as with most things it’s about the context in the time it was written. Back in those times, women weren’t worth much, and for a male to be the receiver of the sex would be making himself into a woman, which again, means degrading yourself to the status of lowly woman. Who should remain quiet and not talk in the church etc… But girl on girl… no issues there, never mentioned literally anywhere. Because in the writers of the Bible’s eyes, woman not named Marry aren’t worth a hill of beans. A very wise preacher explained this and it made a lot of sense to me. He explained it better.

Yeah, watched “The Case for Christ” this past week.
True story of a big skeptic who turned evangelical.
He was a reporter for the Chicago Tribune.

Anyway, one of his “ahah” moments was about women in the bible. Why were the first witnesses of the resurrected Christ females? He said if you were fabricating the story that wouldn’t make any sense since women’s opinions/testimonies were not worth much in Biblical times.

Well, I am nothing if not honest on here…I guess I don’t see the parallel between some male slut who leaves the debris of broken female hearts behind him like so much road dust and a loving monogamous lesbian couple. As a married guy I could hang out with the latter but the former would inevitably lead to conflict as the values are so disparate from my own.

I probably won’t be around much again this week. For those of you that were not around on Sunday, here is a copy/paste of my comment from then.

I know not everyone is around on a Sunday, but I may not have much chance to be on the rest of the week. For the medical types, my grandson’s diagnosis is MPAL (mixed-phenotype acute leukemia). It is rather rare as it is comprises less than 5% of the acute leukemia cases. They treat it like ALL (acute lymphoblastic leukemia) with chemotherapy and steroids. While there is some improvement, they would like it to be faster so they are going to add an additional medicine. With the fever under control, he has reverted to a typical 3 year old boy as he is playing, fussing with his sister and shoving copious amounts of food into his face. The steroids are making him plump out and are apparently giving him moments of ‘roid rage. The little dude got tons of Christmas presents because in addition to family presents he got presents from volunteer groups that give to kids in the hospital, plus his oncology doctor brought him a big pile of presents. In those presents where a plastic sword and shield, plus a light saber. After Grammie had to take the sword away from him for hitting people, he pouted and then learned to only hit things. After that me and him had a few sword/light saber fights. That was fun.
I appreciate all of your thoughts and prayers.

The Vikes were already way behind, I think it was early 3rd qtr.

We had like a 2nd and 6. We had a pass play called and Mullens diagnosed the Packers Blitz pre-snap, moved Chandler slightly to pick up the blitzer. Chandler promptly whiffed badly resulting in a big loss.

So frustrating, if Chandler picks up that blitz we likely have a big play.
Chandler is a much better runner than Mattison, but he blows chunks as a pass blocker.

Chandler wasn’t in the game for quite a while after that.

Since it is QB Tuesday:

Personally I think (low standard I know) that due to KOCs long, convoluted, complex, passing scheme we need a QB that is cerebral enough to understand/run it, able to stand in and allow routes to develop, tough enough to take the inevitable hits, and with the arm strength to make the throws.
Oh and a better than average pass blocking line would certainly help.

My worry is that they will draft The Crybaby once he ‘inexplicably’ falls in the draft.

Even though it’s Tuesday, I’m tryin g hard to lay off that one issue.
But will say this – the cerebral thing is really hard to evaluate and how very important it really is. I’m going to use OB1 to illustrate the point.
Last year going into the Patriots game KOC put a play in just for a Pats particular defense. He called the play 4 times during the game, and QB1 audibled out of it as the defense wasn’t right. Later in game, right defense popped up and QB1 audibled into the play and threw what would be winning TD pass.
Tough to evaluate this kind of stuff.

The S2 Cognitive Test is supposed to measure the QB’s ability to make decisions quickly and accurately and rate it as a metric against the norm. Cousins scored very high, even though he said he was nervous about taking it. I’m thinking teams will eventually want college QB’s to take the test as a standard, just like running the 40, or the three cone, or whatever.

As long as some of KOCs routes take and considering blitzes O-line whiffs I believe even with ‘a better than average pass blocking line’ the QB will still ‘need to be able to stand in and allow the routes to develop’.

One is Vital but both are needed.

Think it’s just basic football. There’s a lot of defensive bodies near the line and some of them are LB’s who bring it – like a 7 yard slant.
18 yard routes to the outside much safer. And even coming in. you’re beyond a lot of the congestion and have space to move.

With a nod to Wrenage, Harry is old and really needs to retire, don’t know his PFF ranking but watching him live he seems like a shell of his former self.

Like the Pace kid, but he will be an average Linebacker. Jordan Hicks is a decent player with a lot of heart but he is on the wrong side of 30.

Hunter is an expensive stud, everybody else is meh….

I think Flores was able to fool people with smoke and mirrors for a while, but eventually the lack of talent surfaces and the defense was exposed. In the GB, if we rushed 4 or fewer we got no pressure, if we rushed 5 or more we would get a little pressure but then our secondary was exposed. It didn’t matter what Flores did or didn’t do.

I don’t know about who they should get, but they need to get rid of Evans and Murphy. Evans in particular can’t play a ball in the air, can’t tackle, and just generally sucks. Murphy just gets burnt a lot. Harry is old and has lost a step. I think keep Hunter but everyone else besides Bynum, Pace, and maybe Harrison Phillips is expendable.

It is Tuesday, we can talk about Kirk.

I have heard many times we can’t win with Kirk because he isn’t mobile.

In the last 20 years 11 QBs have won the Super Bowl.
Using their combine 40 times, Kirk is only faster than 2 of them – Flacco and Brady, and His 4.93 is just a tish slower than Eli’s 4.92. The average time of the 11 was 4.84.

My takeaway is that while its not impossible to win with a QB as slow as Kirk, it certainly hurts your chances. I know “captain obvious”….. but I like to see the numbers.

Kirk problem isnt his 40 time ( I think you were trying to be funny). Its between his ears and his inability to be cool under legit possible season ending pressure. As well as escape a collapsing pocket.

Mobile as in, quick space mobility, stronger lower body to shed tackles if the pocket collapses and get out of trouble on their own. New QB has to be able to do that, being able to be fast and run would be a cherry on top.

Yeah, it’s not like Kirk often delivers dimes downfield when getting or knowing he’s going to be destroyed by a defender…. oh wait, he does that all the time. He is fairly cool under pressure I would say, and the stats back that up (at least as much as any other QB performs “under pressure”).

It means we would be throwing away the next 2 years by signing Russell, who will be cheaper than Cousins, drafting a Rookie QB in the 1st 2 rounds and hope he pans out all while giving fans the illusion we are trying to be competitive.

Star trib reporter says Vikings going to go big on QB in this years draft.

Vikings Expected to Push for Exciting Young QB, Insider Reveals

They were thinking about Caleb Williams and Drake Maye even at this point last year. There’s been a lot of work done in this building through the course of the fall on these rookie QBs,” Goessling said. “If they were to say, ‘We have to be in the top five to get one of these guys, or the top two or three to get one of these guys, I don’t think they’re going to let that hold them back.

“I really think, based on the way they operated last year and the things I’ve heard, if they see there is an opportunity to get the guy of the next 20 years, they are not going to let something stop them from doing it,” Goessling added. “I really believe, based on how they think about this position and some of the things I’ve heard about the ways they may approach this draft, I just don’t think they’re going to be pennywise and tomfoolish. They’re not going to be spendthrift about it.”

Ben DumDum, Yes they have some nice talent in the skill positions, BUT their defense ranks in the bottom 5 and their Offensive line ranks 20th overall.

So despite a talented QB and some talent at the skill positions you have a losing team.

You okay with trotting out a degraded roster next year and crossing our fingers that the drubbing we receive will pay off in 2025 when our #1 overall pick traded to Washington means we are picking in the middle rounds again, but oh boy our QBOTF will start getting some playing time behind a porous OL while the defense allows sustained 10 minute drives? The Hunter question is a bit loaded. Like all things in life there’s a value/cost proposition. ..
Now, we have very little talent on defense. We want and need a much better defense. Seems to me Hunter is our most talented defensive talent.
I’m no GM, but don’t understand getting rid of best player when there is such a void of talent on that side of the ball. I’m also one not to believe in the theory you have to go suck for a while so you can get better.

not to believe in the theory you have to go suck for a while so you can get better.

Good football teams and good GMs do not. We had Rick, and a very bad defense. I am willing to see what Kwesi does over the next three seasons before getting out my pitchfork, but he has not impressed me so far.

I do think that a tear-down /rebuild can make the improvement faster. Sucking for 1, or even two seasons is much better than 8-9 or first round playoff exits. I understand the win now mentality, but this team will not and cannot.

Roster needs a pretty big overhaul to compete with the best.

Hunter has been an injury prone malcontent, and looks to have vanished once he hit his last bonus. He can go away. Let someone else overpay.

I understand that, but don’t think that course is necessary.
If not for all the injuries (Kirk and JJ), and given the state of the NFC – Eagles, Cowboys and even Niners. somewhat, I feel this team “Might” have won a game or two in the playoffs.
Given that, find a stud IOL and a stud upfront seven guy for the defense, and our think we would field a really tough team next year.

Well, we’ll just disagree on this. Defense, with little talent, did improve some. Offensive line did improve at pass blocking – not so much run blocking.
Team turned the ball over early and gave away some games, but were playing best teams in the league. After 49ers and Packers games, we seemed to have our act together, and if not for Kirk’s injury, were in great position to win a lot of games.
Every team has holes.
Just take the Lions game – they are one of best in NFC. With 4 interceptions, we are ONE play away from a win.

Logic… fallacy. Vikings are 16-0 under KOC when we win turnover battle. Kinda affected beginning of season.
!2 – don’t know where that came from.

And its still an issue now. Kirk was and would have continued to produce turn overs as well.

Although it’s Tuesday, I’ve sworn off talking about the said QB. Seems a lot of folks, well maybe it’s just a few, have rather closed minds on the issue. Does make it tough to talk football sometimes. but it’ll work out.

“no SEC teams in the finals”

FINALLY

very happy for a Michigan/Washington matchup. Great Offense vs Great Defense. Should be good

If the Vikings draft him, you are correct, he will suck or get murdered by our shit O line.

If the Falcons draft him, he will win 2 SuperBowls.

i know it’s not, but washington has a great offense.

michigan has an above average offense though so i think they will prevail. I’m definitely rooting for the wolverines and my hope for the vikings trade back into the first round draft pick Mccarthy

yes i had to laugh at all the people mad at the committee for leaving FSU out, the people “suing” the committee etc….they looked like IDIOTS after the first quarter. FSU looked like the vikings out there

Happy Tuesday!
We get to talk about Kirko since it is a Tuesday.
I am glad Hall got the start, since he has proven what the coaches knew all along. Dude is not ready. Sad to say, out of the shit backups we have, Mullens is the best QB not injured that is on the roster.

Out of all the current Vikings, Kirko is my favorite. Yes, the QB room is that bad.

Next years preferred QB room for me.

Penix/Someone better than Mullens/ Mullens

What I expect to be the QB room next year

Kirko/Mullens/Future draft bust since Kwesi is so SMRT

Penix has the arm, but i tend to think he is more a “system qb”…. he sucked at indiana…

so is he a product of washingtons system or did he just need better coaching. IDK

He was running the ball at Indiana, so coaching and shit system imo.

He used to be ‘Run first’, and that is a recipe for dying in the NFL.

His arm talent is very good, and he can make all the throws needed, and has a quick release, and pocket awareness.

IMO he is a good fit for what KoC has been trying to do.

i agree he has the arm talent and sems to have the pocket awareness.
a couple of his throws last night were on the money as the pocket broke down…

No gummies. I was basing that “running QB” take on pre game announcer saying he was expected to do more with his legs at Indiana vs WA

I normally only watch college football during bowl games, so I will admit I did not watch any Indiana games he played .

I like how he looks now. I know that

I don’t watch much college football so I am fairly ignorant. I did watch last nights games and what I did not like about Pentix is he gets his reads from the sideline..hate that. the whole get everybody set so the O coordinator can choose your read based on the defense and then signal it into you. It doesn’t give me much confidence in Pentix.

Yeah, from what I see, while he did run once in the game (that I saw) his strength is the ability to move around in the backfield and extend plays that way. Always looking to throw, and had a quick enough release and a cannon arm.
