Minnesota Vikings Discussion Topic of the Day

The Vikings missed the playoffs, which sucks. They likely would have made them if not for the injury to Cousins, but in all likelihood would have just got curb stomped in the Wild Card Round anyway. What do the Vikings do moving forward at QB, RB, LG, DE, CB, CB, S, and QB?

  • Keep politics out. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down the rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
  • Be cool to one another. Like it says above, just be civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone and that’s fine, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument not the poster.
  • Keep the NSFW to a minimum. We don’t need anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
  • All in all, be adults. Treat each other with respect and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. Got the Michigan/Washington on. Streaming it on You Tube.
Have no idea who the bald freak is in the shiny outfit is but I had to turn off the sound until It’s inane takes/talking points were off air.

‘Which team/program do you think will get more from a Win, Mich or Wash??’
Really? That is The View Level Analysis there.

ESPN really has become a woke toilet.

Down go Huskies.
34 -13.

It was kind of close until Michigan scored 2 late 4th qtr TDs.
Wash had a 255 -140 advantage in passing yards.
Mich had a 305 -50 advantage in rushing yards.

Neither one of the QB’s was really impressive. Penix threw the ball 51 times though. Couldn’t break 300 yards and barely completed half his passes. He had a TD and 2 interceptions. McCarthy didn’t put any points up with his arm, and only threw 18 passes. These aren’t NFL QB’s in waiting.

Boats loads of discussion from national pundits about Saints running score up on Falcons from victory formation.
Made me wonder though, I thought Detroit had some pretty unusual play calls at the end of game – screen pass, one right another. no kneel downs or even run plays.
Was anything locally said about this?

No… but most folks just view it as typical Dan Campbell.

The Saints players apparently decided to score the last TD on their own.

I still hope Dalvin gets on the field for the Ravens in the play-offs, and does well. Hope the Ravens win the Super Bowl at this point, and Dalvin gets a ring.

Looks like a low turnover for HC this year.

Panthers
Raiders
Chargers
Falcons
Redskins

possible but likely imo…
Patriots
Titans
Bears

This is correct FloridaSKOL. NFL contracts are written to control the player, and are pretty much worthless from a players perspective. The only way to combat that is to have enough guaranteed money, and a no-trade clause, that a team can’t cut you or trade you at their whim.

Cousins has offered below market deals to his GM three times now in his career, and all three times he was rejected (twice by Bruce Allen and once by KAM).

Fair deal, guaranteed money, no trade clause. That’s what Cousins will play for.

i know the popular opinion by most the people here is that kirk is greedy and wants everything guaranteed etc….
and that’s fine, i’m not arguing that point.

the thing i want to say is, out of most of the qb’s in the nfl, kirk, to me, seems like the type that would entertain a team friendly deal if it’s for multiple years, if it ensures being able to spend the right money in the right places.

if he can be convinced that they are going to do everything in their power to draft offensive line, defensive line and get a team that can make a run, i do not see any reason to think, if he is convinced they are gonna do it, that he can take a very team friendly deal to help…

that being said, i come at it from the mind of a poor person who doesn’t understand why players demand such high amounts if it hamstrings the team from putting multiple quality players on the team to build a contender.

After 10 years he hasn’t done this yet.
Not sure I would expect it now.
But, maybe he’s changed.

And taking $2 million less per year isn’t a team friendly deal. What type of free agent help can you get for $2 million when the league minimum is like $1 million.

KAM is a finance guy, not a football guy. His first draft he got played badly, making moves on the board for no apparent reason, then picking the wrong guys. His second draft he was again, singularly unimpressive.

I don’t expect him to suddenly become a brilliant horse trader and talent evaluator this coming draft.

Like reading all the GM takes of what to do for next year – pretty new to me.
Was thinking though, being good st drafting has to be really important.
For example, we got JA with our number 1 last year for our WR2 . Pretty solid I think, he’s done well.
But was looking at Rams, they picked up Nacua as their WR2 with a 5th round pick. He has put up really impressive numbers.
Perhaps an even more solid pick.

Reply to  JRobert
8 January 2024 1:27 pm

Yes…if your point is you can find really good players past round 2 you are correct….

its just that the frequency of hits diminishes quite a bit.

That doesn’t take away from the notion that Addison was a solid pick.

It would be like saying Stroud wasn’t that great a pick because the 49ers found Purdy in the 7th.

JRobert
JRobert
Reply to  NoDakRube

No really. And Addison is for sure a solid pick
Was kind of thinking with all the holes we have, would be nice and helpful if KAM can hit some homeruns, even doubles, with later round picks. With all the top notch WR’s coming out of college very year, would think an “average GM” could find one with a first round pick. Given our situation, we need more.
My mention of Nacua was to just note that finding a “diamond in the rough” is a really big plus.

Here is my prognostication/thoughts/hopes on what KAM will do this offseason.

QB, given the reports about how hard he went after Richardson in the last draft I expect him to identify ‘his guy’ and go get him. Then play him behind Mullins/Hall until he is deemed ready.
Sign JJ/HunterDarrisaw to a team friendly (cap wise) contracts that holds off the majority of the Cap Hits until KCs hit is off the books.
Then use the remaining draft and free agency to plug holes and bring in quality players (no couches please). Given enough $$/cap space he may well find some gems and improve the Def and the trenches.

Can it be done? Possibly. Can KAM ‘get it right’? Fingers crossed.
But it is a way forward.

Since there is no way to know at this point how much draft capital it will cost to move up for their guy (#1/2? #4-6?) hard to know how the rest of the draft will go. Heck ‘their guy’ might fall to #11 for all we know.

I would turn the rest of the draft over to Flores if that keep him here and then fill the holes on the OL/RB in Free Agency.

To move to #1? Maybe, especially as Chicago will ask for a premium for an Intra Divisional trade.
To move to #4 thru #6 from #11, I doubt we have to give up any future picks.
Again it all depends on who KAMs guy is. Richardson went 4th last year.

Heard this last week – so it is plagarised. And numbers may be slightly off due memory, but close enough.
Before this week’s game, Field’s number’s 4 previous games and this is the high water mark for his career.
Four games – 4 TD’s, 200 yards a game passing, high 50’s completion percentage, and a QB rating 20 points below most all NFL starters.
After 3 years that’s the summit of where’s he’s at. Didn’t see yesterday, but heard slightly worse.
So the team that passed on Mahomes for Trebinski, is going to pass on Williams for this – after three years of experience.

And a second analyst, Cosell from PFF as I remember, noted he’s improved but still doesn’t see the field well and go thru progressions. And still misses dunks and layup passes. And this is after 3 years of playing.

Someone would have to trade for Fields for da Bears to draft a QB #1 IMO.

Theres no way in hell there are 5 or 6 QBs going in the first 10 picks, thats rarely if ever happened, people thought QBs were going to fly off the shelf last draft too and it didnt happen. This is a poor take and I disagree with it 1000%. Down vote.

OK – I have some thoughts on this season and where the team must go.

I had heard from a number of mouthbreathers that KOC was the DUDE and an offensive genius. Exciting! HOWEVA!! We’ve seen what happens to his offense the second his overpaid QB goes down. Not a good look for KOC in my humble opinion – but since I don’t believe we move on from him we must;

Ask Kurt to sign an extremely team friendly deal. he’s made his money and even though some junk team would pay him 35 million/year he could stay here for $30M or less and WIN! Try to ink him for two years and;

Draft QB. Draft one in first or second round – don’t care. If this one isn’t immediately looking like the man than you draft one the next year. Always draft.

Use all other picks on defense in 2024. Line and backfield. All of them outside of the QB pick.

Use all other picks on RB and OL in 2025 draft outside of the QB pick if necessary.

Teach Kwesi how to draft – dude missed on everyone but Addison and give credit to whomever it was in the org that asked to bring in Pace undrafted. Probably Flores. Speaking of;

Sign Flores to whatever he wants

Sign JJ to whatever he wants – lifetime contract idgaf

Big Stu for GM and move Kwes to VGM and I’ll teach him.

3 lb chicken, can go right from Freezer to crock pot
1 stick butter
1 can chicken broth
1 pepper(green, red, whatever)
1 chopped onion.

Cook for 6 hours, then add 8 oz cream cheese and about a 1/2 cup of cream

Soup. or Stew, or whatever you feel like calling it.

If you just want shredded chicken, skip the chicken broth and cream and cream cheese and add some spices and you will have shredded chicken.

Another variation you can add rice (1 cup rice, two cups chicken broth) and it is a tasty chicken rice dish.

Beef time.
Chuck roast (3-5 pounds)
1 can beef broth.
Potatoes and carrots (as much as you feel like eating with the meat)
Add SPG (salt, pepper, garlic)
Place the roast on top of the veggies, add SPG, then add broth

6 hours on high. shred roast with forks(should be pull apart tender), eat.

Fun movie factoid while waiting for my PC to chew on updates:

I just found out that the exorcist who did the exorcism that the movie The Exorcist was based on was born right down the road from me.

Before he died, he reported that he didn’t like the movie. While words in blood appeared and furniture did levitate, he said there was no pea-soup vomit, etc…

I don’t know what to think of the Catholic rite of exorcism really. It doesn’t seem to follow the Biblical model. Biblical model was basically, “Go away, in Jesus’ name” and that was about it.

Catholic exorcism rite is a long, drawn-out thing.

one of my favorite “exorcisms” was when Jesus told the the demon, legion, to get out and they were like well where the heck are we supposed to go? so he cast them into a bunch of pigs and they just ran off a cliff and died.

Computers are against me, man. Got a time-sensitive, huge Excel project that needs to be done this week. Got here bright and early to get going, and low and behold, my Excel program decides to randomly dumb the add-on tools that I need. It just disappeared the entire tab. Freakin’ machines…

Did you see Taylor Swift getting all butt hurt about the joke on the Golden Globes last night? I thought the joke was funny, Taylor needs to lighten up, maybe it was her time of the month….

“As you know, we came on after a football double-header,” Koy told the audience in Beverly Hills. “The big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL – on the Golden Globes fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift.”

I’m good with Kirk for 2 more years, and use our 1st to draft his replacement and groom him.

The whole Mullens/Dobbs fiasco shows we need a solid QB1 AND a QB2 who doesn’t hand out TOs like Halloween candy.

After that, add to the DLine and CB room, maybe another flashy RB to pair with Chandler.

With only 9 picks, that will be all we can accomplish this coming draft, unless Quesi can pull a couple more rabbits out of his @$$ with UDFAs.

Given the shit line play yesterday, remarkable Mullens threw for almost 400 yards yesterday.

The O-line was definitely a problem, but there were some plays where they did a great job as well. This has been Cousins experience basically his whole career as a starter. The ability to produce TD’s and yards consistently, and keep your team in games, behind O-lines like that, is a trait Cousins gets no credit for.

Mullens can do the job in this offense, and be very good, with just a little better protection. He doesn’t process as fast as Cousins, nor does he possess Cousins arm talent, but he can be competent enough (IMO) with a little better line play.

yes, just because he isn’t “asked” to carry the team by throwing 40 times a game doesn’t mean he can’t.

I have been impressed with him the few games I have seen him play. Good poise, good reads, strong enough arm, good accuracy, good maturity for a 20 year old.

We know Kwesi will select the wrong QB.
I like he WA qb, , but I also did not realize McCarthy is about 4 years younger. Makes sense that he did not look as polished.
Also he does not have the injury history.

I will enjoy watching the game tonight knowing the Vikings will choose incorrectly again in April

If we can learn anything from the Bucs and Rams, once you have a team ready, you can get the QB -Brady and Stafford. Why go the crap shoot way on hoping for selecting the right one.

You might – select wrong and you’re screwed.
How about build a team that is ready to compete, and then go get your QB – far less risky and you get to the same spot. And if you do screw wit up, you can correct very quickly.

That’s a lot of question Ben’s asking.
At first blush, think the premise is a little off – don’t buy we would have likely gotten curb stomped first round.
Looking at top of NFC – Niners, Cowboys, Lions. Think Lions/Cowboys really close and Lions probably beat Cowboys but got screwed. Regardless, that’s the NFC
We just played Lions twice. Our QB threw for over 800 yards but threw SIX interceptions. Last time Cousins played Lions he threw foe 425 with zero interceptions (Cook’s jump pass game). Think it’s reasonable to conclude with Kirk we could have won at least one of those games.
We might have lost a playoff game either way, but at the same time we could have played with anyone this year with Kirk, JJ and Hock on the field.
Going forward selecting players – depends on what type of team you want to be. QB dependent like the Ravens, or QB independent like the Niners?

Wrenage
8 January 2024 6:36 am

Vikes come in at 7-10. I figured around 9-8, so they were a little worse, but that is the Kirk injury at play, I reckon.

They can get to 9-8 next year when Kirk comes back.

Kwesi really needs to nail this draft.

Tough draw for the Lions getting the Rams. They basically have Vikings luck. They finally win the division and get to the playoffs after years of futility, then they might get knocked out by their former QB. That’s going to sting if that happens.

But the Lions should be back unless Green Bay challenges them. Green Bay should be in an upward trajectory, as well.

Vikes are basically screwed for a couple of seasons if Kwesi is not on point.

Apologize for being short, the OC he had left and they renunited in Oregon.

He rates highly per PFF, doesnt throw many INT’s and has a good arm.

Problems is they say that Oregon’s offense is really simplified. He can make big time throws but most of his passes are short screens. VIkings really don’t have a screen game.

looking forward to the college game tonight. Two QBs that would be nice to have, even though I prefer the WA qb to the Michigan qb. I have been told I am wrong often, so just seeing what Kwesi does will be entertaining if you enjoy tragicomedies.

Team needs a ton of help (mostly interior O and D line) in order to compete with the best. Defense needs more help that Offense.

Lack of depth and injuries and stupidity ruined this season.
