Thread Guidelines

  • Keep politics out. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down the rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
  • Be cool to one another. Like it says above, just be civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone and that’s fine, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument not the poster.
  • Keep the NSFW to a minimum. We don’t need anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
  • All in all, be adults. Treat each other with respect and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. If you want to reach out about something feel free to ask. We want to have robust discussions, that’s why we’re here. Just be civil and cool to one another.

A movie is like an outline of a book. It might hit the high points but it will miss a lot of context/detail.
That is why all of the ‘Dune’ movies fail, visually interesting but story is lost in translation.
My Niece still complains how the ‘Lord of the Rings’ movie cut out her favorite character from the book ‘Tom Bombadil’.

I will agree that reading a book after seeing the movie is usually a fail. And if I watch a movie of a book I read I will have to temper my expectations.

I get it. Books add up fast. I’ve already got a pretty huge collection. Wife does as well. I’ve got several 6ft bookshelves full and our den has a bunch of built ins – all full. I keep a short shelf in my living room for stuff we’re reading currently and another 3 or 4 mid-sized shelves in our spare bedroom – all full. Same with my office. I’ve got OCD so I’m constantly aligning book spines and dusting shelves. I try and keep all academic and DIY books in my office and all my ‘leisure’ books in the den and spare bedroom. We moved into this place 18 months ago and at that time there were over 1200 books between my wife and I. And my collection is small compared to others I’ve seen. It’s a lot.

I converted the ‘dining room’ into a Library and have half dozen 6ft bookcases in there, plus The Teacher has one in the bedroom while I have a short 3 shelf one next to the nightstand for mine.

Have not many actual books since I retired as Kindle is cheaper/easier now. Not sure how much of them to take with us, like the idea of my Library of ‘actually read’ books in the new house.

Last of the Breed by L’Amour is one of my favorite books. I should reread it again. If you haven’t read it, it is one of his non-western books. It is about an American pilot that gets shot down and captured in Siberia. He is an Indian and then proceeds to use all his Indian powers to evade the Russians hunting him.

That’s a shitload of miles. My dad traveled across the states of Nebraska, Kansas, Iowa, The Dakotas and Minnesota – majority of his clients located in Nebraska the last 15 years of his career. All of it traveled by company car and later they moved all salesmen to pickups. In 35+ years he drove something like 1.5 million miles total for work – his estimation. I can remember the stack of maps and guide books showing small-town pay phones that he could stop to call supervisors, parts departments or clients. Way before the days of a cell phone.

Cowherd is high….no way we trade JJ AND picks for the #3.

Possibly just JJ for the #3.

I hear that statement, but don’t see any evidence of it…

Just like the “Trump is a racist” crowd..when you ask them to point to examples they don’t come up with much.

She seems like ‘old school’ established Republican to me.
So the Never Trumpers are donating so she will stay in the race.

Better than Brandon, duh, but Maga will never vote for her, they will write in a convicted/jailed Trump first.

She flip flops and blatantly lies depending on the room she is in. Show her a video of her saying something and she will call you a liar (ie raising the minimum retirement age).

I watched it some time ago, it’s not bad and the new girl is an adequate Wednesday, but she’s no Christina Ricci.

Sign Gardner Minshew?

I’m not sure about that, is he any better than Mullens?

The Vikings have a history of going after the old cagey high priced veteran.
So that would be Russell Wilson in 2024.

I like Minshew more than Mullens though.

Minshew certainly does seem more capable than Mullens. Could be an OK (and not too expensive) bridge QB.

If KAM decides that the CryBaby is the ‘best QB’ and pays bank to move up to get him I will have to find a new team I think.

I get enough of that woke/snowflake stuff here in Calif, don’t need it on my football team.
