Regarding the Jayden Daniels chatter that ESPN started pushing last week, it’s a pretty well established fact that the Vikings would have to spend a king’s ransom on a trade that would land Daniels. Pundits are saying “nobody would care too much if Daniels morphs into a franchise quarterback.”

Pretty big “if” there though. Arians is fond of saying “no risk it, no biscuit”, but a miss puts the organization in a hole for many years to come.

I do think KAM will pull the trigger on a big trade. The question is, will he hit a homerun, or strike out?

Yeah. I’m not a fan of giving up the farm to move up.
I would rather draft one of the top 3 at #11 if they fall, or trade back into round #1 and take McCarthy, Nix or Penix. Might not even need to trade back into round#1 to get them.

Taking McCarthy at #11 might be a bit high, but I wouldn’t be too upset if that happens.

Concur. Reaching for a franchise QB doesn’t sit well with me. Getting someone early who looks the part, and fits what the OC is looking for is more to my liking.

It will be interesting to see if he can make the cut, and then actually finish the tournament if he does. I don’t think he plays four rounds.

Yes, it will be interesting to see if Tiger can compete in way at all. I hold to the opinion that Tiger will use this event as a sounding board for 2024. If he makes the cut, and finishes in the top 15, that is a good start.

I do think he can achieve those marks.

I guess. But a first time GM with little experience and not exactly a good batting average, doesn’t need to start from the 3 meter board.
If he is a numbers guy, you play the odds. And the lower your batting average, the less risk you take on.
But, guess we’ll just have to see.

So, Hockenson tore the ACL and MCL in his right knee on Dec. 24. In conjunction with the team’s medical staff, he delayed surgery for 36 days while the MCL healed. Hock had his ACL repaired on Jan. 29. Multiple sources reported there have been no complications from the surgery. Experts have said the typical recovery from the type of injury he suffered is nine months.

Hockenson’s schedule could either be accelerated or slowed based on the timing of various milestones. But the most relevant question is not whether he will be ready for Week 1, but instead, whether he will be placed on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list — making him ineligible to play until Week 5 at the earliest.

He will be ready when he is ready.
Oliver will probably pick up the TE#1 while he is out.
We may draft or pick another TE in FA fill the blocking role.
Someone mentioned Bradburry had been a TE in HS.
He maybe be able to block well enough when we upgrade the Center position.

Regarding JJ’s contract discussion, it wasn’t JJ that said anything about his contract being tied to whether Cousins stays or goes. Tom Pelissero said last weekend, “This is also complicated because Justin Jefferson is also in line for a monster contract extension. He thinks highly of Cousins and is gonna want answers at the quarterback position before he signs on for the long haul.”

While it makes sense that Jefferson would want to catch balls from Cousins, he’s never drawn a line in the sand to say Cousins’ return is a personal requirement.

As usual a pundit makes a statement, and the player is roundly criticized for something he never said.

No doubt true about the writer spinning this.
JJ for sure wants his money, deserves it. but he’s also a world class superior athlete – best at what he does. It’s not hard to realize he still wants to be recognized as the best at what he does. I’m not saying this has to be Cousins, but I’m sure he at minimum wants someone who can regularly get the ball to him..

The Valentine’s Day suckers I bought are too hard. A proper sucker should be at a level of hardness that makes it biteable the moment you put it in your mouth. You might have to work for it a little bit at that stage, but crunching it is possible.

The true enjoyment of a sucker is resisting biting it for as long as possible.

These suckers are rock hard and cannot be chomped until they are like 90 percent sucked, so whenever you give into temptation before that point, you are not rewarded. Your teeth get hurt.

This is Sucker 101. I looked up the sucker maker. It is Charms. They should know better.

I’ve been musing at the statistical improbability that one of 16 teams in the NFC has not appeared in the Super Bowl in 47 years…I mean that is just a sad state of affairs. SF has been in 8. I visited their SB Nation site and was amused to see some complaints that it could be years until they get back to the SB, and “this thirty year old is giving up on seeing another win in his lifetime”.

You’d think the players would be smarter and places like Florida would have a decided advantage but the players don’t care about the actual cash on the big deals. They are more concerned with being “the highest paid” than actually making the most. Every once in awhile a player will say it was part of their decision but not as often as I would expect.

If they like salad, it would likely bring more in. Ravens are actually pretty intelligent birds. The problem with that intelligence would then be if they became accustomed to the food and you stopped. They would likely come up with a plan and break in and attack you or swarm and carry you away when you walked outside.

Yes Very Smart Birds.

I have a fake owl and hawk outside to keep them away. Have to keep moving them around the yard so that the Ravens don’t get used to them.

I even have a ‘Dog-goyle’ that we got for Halloween one year. Put that out there as it has wings to see if that will help as a deterrent. The Ravens were actually strafing it to see how it would react.

At the Prison one yard had some feral cats around. One hunted gophers, it would leave the head/offal laying out. The Ravens got used to it and they would strafe the cat to get it to hunt more gofers so they could get the leftovers.

I talked to some biologists years ago that were trying to study the patterns of ravens and magpies and see if they were going after sage grouse leks or nesting grounds. Years ago I had a dog get ahold of a raven on the ground, I believe it was injured. It let out a shrill sound, next thing I know the sky is full of ravens, and I had to put my dog in his kennel for his protection.

He can’t be tagged.

Per a source with knowledge of the deal, the contract voids after the deadline for applying the franchise tag.

In other words, Cousins won’t be on track to be a free agent when the Vikings have the ability to tag him. Only after the window for using the tag closes will Cousins contract expire.

I don’t know the legalities of it.
Because the contract has void years, the contract has to expire before he is technically a FA. Since it doesn’t expire until March 13th, the franchise tag window has passed. Something like that.

That discussion is from PFT.

Kirko’s HoF agent wrote things in a way that prohibits the Franchise tag this year for him

That said, it would be a decent price if they could do that.

This way, Kirko gets to shop around for buyers of his service, and he prices himself out of the Vikings.

Kirko’s HoF agent

So if the agent is responsible for all of Kirko’s deals, why hasn’t other NFL players with the same agent gotten HofF deals?

Or, why aren’t other NFL players flocking to him to get these deals?

Personally, I think Kirk is driving most of these contracts.

My loudest fart was while working in Prison evening shift.
The housing unit had a concrete ‘exercise yard’ big enough to play handball on.
It was summer and the inmates were all locked up so they door to the yard was open. I didn’t want to fart in the office with co-workers so I walked down the hall and out into the yard and let a massive one loose. The fart actually echoed.
I walked back inside, down the hallway, back into the office and my co-workers asked me what that sound had been.
Epic!!

I never really liked Tango and Cash. This is not to say, it is bad. It is fine for that type of film. It just didn’t seem to have that organic feel of a truly great action/buddy movie. It felt like it was made by feeding numbers into an Apple IIe, and a script was spit out in Excel.

It is kind of in the mold of Clint Eastwood’s The Rookie a year later. It just doesn’t ring true.

Even Lethal Weapon 2 kind of sucks to my mind, although some people really like it. LW2 also came out during that time frame. Seemed action movies lost it a bit there.

I recently rewatched LW2 after not seeing it for awhile and hated it. All the yelling at each other, which is supposed to be funny, got grating. I hated what they did with the Riggs character. He was so hyper the whole movie, just way over the top in his reaction to everything.

No argument here. Just wife, kids and me with a normal dinner and watched the game. We’ve had bigger at home parties for a Vikings regular season game with Mullens playing QB.

Mom showed me an article the other day correlating state income taxes vs. the success of NFL teams. The article never actually showed any data. It just said it is one of the reasons the Vikings will continue to flounder.

Fortunately, with the power of Google, I see there is data out there on this subject if one cares to explore it. It’s kind of interesting and does lean toward lower-tax states winning and making playoffs slightly more.

Regardless, I think the Vikings have bigger issues at the team building level than taxes that they could try to solve first.

Kirk.

He will have 2-3 options, at most. the SF idea is a joke imo. SF did not lose because of Purdy, and Purdy ran a couple times for first downs that would have been ez sacks if Kirk was back there.

I am not sure where he will end up, and he is not worth the “market value” to this team and never has been. I understand that the going price is what it is.

For what he has been paid, he should have the ability to carry a team to victory.

Vikings as a team/organization have failed to provide the perfect O Line and system for Kirk to thrive (other than stats that are not wins) and Kirk does not have the ability to carry a sub par team anywhere.

This team is sub par.

He can go away.

Now

It is Tuesday. SKOL

I read that JJ wants input/clarification on the QB the Vikings roll with next year prior to signing any extension. If that is true, he can GTFO. He is not the owner of the team, he is an employee. He may be the best WR, and the best draw for ticket sales, but they still sold out all the home game where he was injured.

Trade him, let Kirko test the free market, say bye to Hunter, and accumulate draft picks that will turn out to be busts.

That is on the GM, and if he fails, fire him just like Rick.
That is the job of the GM, build a roster that can compete for a championship.

Maybe kwesi is just told to sell out the stadium.

Well, lets look at this as player evaluations for our top guys.
Kirk – very good.
JJ – outstanding
Hunter – very good.
KOC – good
KAM – average ( that’s kind at this point).
So with that lineup, you want to put the future of the team in the hands of the weakest player. Frankly, I’m not sure he’s hit enough singles and doubles yet to take that big of a swing yet. Sometimes it’s best to grow into your position.

Let’s look at this as a fan with your player evaluations….

No consistent playoff appearances with said “very good” talent.
If the “talent” can’t get you into the playoffs and winning playoff games, can they be considered good talent?

Here’s a ‘fan’ perspective and I am going to ‘eat some words’ I said during the season – a win is a win.
Then I watched our 3-0 win over Raiders, just after our 12-10 loss to Bears. To me as a fan, that was pure dog shit football and hardly watchable.

DE Viking

Sure.
My broader point is that if the talent you have isn’t getting you to the playoffs and can’t win playoff games, then something needs to change and the current talent isn’t working.

That’s not even a fan’s perspective. That should be the GM’s perspective.

Winning playoff games is my measuring stick.

Sure too – but two points. My first was maybe our GM isn’t quite ready for this big a jump yet – i.e.,dump Kirk, JJ, and Hunter.
Second – winning playoff games is indeed the goal. But just maybe Kirk, JJ and Hunter aren’t the problem as to why we are not winning those games. Maybe there are a few other problems screwing things up – drafting, coaching, other players not playing well, for example.

GM has to be ready.
Make the moves needed to field a competitive team that can contend.

The players you mention, (Kirk, JJ and Hunter) are NOT able to carry this team to the desired goal of a championship. No reason to keep throwing away money for 1 playoff win in 6 years.

The entire roster needs to be built up.

Rebuild is here, today.

Not the way the real world works. Any new executive with limited experience, and not the best batting record so far, is going to be on a bit of a ‘training wheels’ period. As Surley presented – getting rid of Kirk, JJ and Hunter – is way, way beyond this.

What are you talking about? Thats literally how it works lol. “Who do you trust to make those moves / draft?” The fucking GM, Scouting department and head coach. If you as a fan dont trust them, thats too damn bad lol. If you as an owner no longer trust who you hired to make those moves, then you fire them. This has always been Kirk Stans take is ” I dont trust us to draft well or pick the right QB” Again…welp…you cant change whose making those decisions so im not sure what your point is. Its not about whose making the picks its where are you in time when those picks are presented to you. You take them, regardless of GM or HC.

Must you make every discussion about ‘Kirk Stans.”
I am talking “real world” the way it is done. And football is a very big time business.
You say ‘if as an owner you don’t trust who you hired.’ Real world – been of both sides of this – depends on experience and record hereto fore. Nobody in the real world gets carte blanc. Now, getting rid of your 6 year starting QB, best WR in football, is a big deal. Hunter, maybe less so, but he’s the best defensive player.
Trust is earned, it doesn’t just come with position.

Because I cant think of a better name for the group of people that profoundly dont want us to move on at QB. Its a label not an insult. And I agree with you in that part as far as firing and hiring but you are ignoring my point about drafting and “trusting” someone to make a decision. The owners HAVE to trust these guys, thats why they hired them, if they dont, then this whole organization is off the rails more than we think and we have bigger problems than a .500 record having 6 year starting QB.

Im not pounding the table to get rid of all 3 of those players, I agree that would be stupid. Keep two. And you know which two.

I agree, he has a right to know who his teammate will be that tries to deliver the ball to him.

However, if he is not willing to negotiate and sign a contract until that is done, he can go away imo.

The team should let him know what the intend or want to do, but Kirko’s HoF agent is going to try and hold the team hostage again.

So, if JJ is not willing to roll with Mullens/Rookie/Hall next year if that is all the team can afford, trade him.

Paying JJ will dictate how much $ they have for a QB.

Sure is a lot of Kirk talk.
Was reading something yesterday. Chiefs with Reid and Mahomes are noted for offense. But their defense shut down the Dolphins, Bills, Ravens, and Niners in the playoffs – believe all of these teams are like top 5 or 6 offenses in the league.
The Chiefs seem to not only be well coached, but are really good at drafting.
Like Flores, but that DC in KC is pretty darn good.

Maybe a small point – they started 8 rookies on defense last year and over the course of the year they got better, and even better this year. Not disputing the Mahomes items, talent and contract if you will, but Chiefs draft and develop talent well too.
Contracts and money get the buzz, but drafting the right players and good coaching are equally big deals too.

Take your shoes and socks off. Put your feet on the dash and trap the socks in the window to air-out. Aggressively plant your elbow deep into the other side of the armrest, bumping the driver – then look at him, cock your sunglasses down and say ‘This gonna be a problem?!?’ Eat pistachios along the way using your shoe to crack them on the dash.

From Will Ragatz: It’s sounding more and more like the Vikings are bracing for life without Kirk Cousins.

This is NOTHING to brace for. It’s not going to matter much in terms of wins and losses IMO. Unless you think that going 9-8 or 10-7 and losing in the first round is the goal.

I’m optimistically looking ahead to a new direction.
I still say Kirk will only have 2 or 3 options, tops.
And I hope some team is dumb enough to pay him the $45 million number.
But I think that is just PR, for when he signs for less, he can say he took less and shows it’s “not about the money”.
