QUESTION OF THE DAY
Outside of QB and Hunter, what is the most pressing position to address in FA or the draft?

Thread Guidelines
- Keep politics out. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down the rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
- Be cool to one another. Like it says above, just be civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone and that’s fine, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument not the poster.
- Keep the NSFW to a minimum. We don’t need anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
- All in all, be adults. Treat each other with respect and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. If you want to reach out about something feel free to ask. We want to have robust discussions, that’s why we’re here. Just be civil and cool to one another.
Following up on my earlier post concerning the end of mankind.
Per Fox News.
The threat appears to be related to the Ruskies and space…so I am assuming it has something to do with them having the capabilities to shoot down our satellites, but don’t know for sure…
“The Threat is not immanent”
This mass shooting stuff is. …….. certainly more than outrageous. And I. don’t think gun control and mental health programs are going to stop it.
A remedy – and this is probably hard ass and even cruel.
People who perform these acts should be killed (executed) publicllly in very harsh ways – you name it. But anyone else watching that wants to try something like this, fully knows what they can expect to get. No 15 years court cases and appeals, Quick, painful, and public executions.
Oh well, but evil needs to be harshly confronted.
Most people that do these shootings end up getting ended by the responding police force or themselves, at least recently. I agree with your solution, dont waste the jail space and tax dollars but, I also dont think killing them is going to scare others, seeing as the often end up dead or wanting to be dead in the first place. Suicide by cop is pretty common.
You make a lot of sense and I was just going off. We’ve had guns forever, we’ve had crazy people forever. But there seems to be a huge escalation of these crimes (thinking back 20 years or so). Something is causing this?
There must be a remedy – any ideas?
The removal of gun/gun safety from children at a young age, social media drastically affecting mental health of people adults and children alike starting from 2007ish until now and the willingness of friends or family of these individuals to report said individuals behavior before time. Its shocking the amount of things people find on social media that the suspect posted weeks or months before they do something. They dont always outright say they are going to do said act (some times they do) but you can tell somethings off. Authorities should be contacted and should be able to do a wellness check/ search of that persons home. You think these shooters just decided on a whim that morning to go shooting and had zero planning? Idk, im going off subject. A full remedy? No. But What i posted above to me, comes off as the major causes, declining mental health and the willingness to CALL OUT that poor mental health at face value.
Good stuff – perhaps some type of mental health check, friends or whatever, would be a big step in right direction.
The Romans believed in a very public punishment. ie, crucifixion.
Yes indeed and earlier in our history we had public hangings. We’re a better society today in many ways, but these mass type shootings seem so needless.

Don’t judge.
So, when Justin Jefferson said โI want to break the bank, and I want to be a part of an organization that wants me, and to really give me what I deserve.โ did it make him a bad guy?
Nah, cuz he has shown he is one of the best, if not THE best at his position. Whether the Vikings should give him that kind of money is a different question.
JJ averages 6.7 catches per game. Is it worth paying $30M a year to a player who is great at his position, but really only has an effect on about 11% of the plays? This what a team must weigh and decide.
This pay stuff is tough to evaluate. A lot of money – but how many guys can make that 4th and 18n against Buffallo and I think a 3rd and forever he made against Lions.
Now, 30 mil is a lot – but how much will it seem like 2 years from now. Look at QB pay. Something that looked outrageous few years back, seems cheap now.
Salient points
Well, hard to live on 30 mil and endorsements. I’m having ahard time
True, the economy is such that a million dollars ain’t what it used to be.
Not a bad guy, but for sure a player I am fine with leaving.
Trade him for whatever draft capital you can get.
I do not want to overpay (%of the cap) to any one player.
Sensible
Uhh, anything to do with the threat posted about earlier? That’s a lot of guns going in drawn.
Someone accost Swift? Or stole the Lombardi?
All I’ve seen so far is a shooting. No way that many people, including military, are responding to a simple one on one shooting.
Multiple people shot. 2 people taken into custody.
It will quickly be swept under the rug when it is found the shooters were transgender illegal immigrants. Same as the church shooter that also somehow voted in the general election while being an illegal with a criminal history.

If he doesn’t retire, does the Hitman end up in Dallas with Zim?
The 49ers and defensive coordinator Steve Wilks have parted ways, coach Kyle Shanahan announced on a conference call with Bay Area reporters.
Wilks was hired a year ago to replace DeMeco Ryans, who became head coach of the Texans.
I think allowing the Chiefs to march down the field so easily at the end of the 4th quarter to kick a game tying field goal, and then a game winning TD with 3 seconds left in overtime, were part of his undoing.
Makes sense.
However, you cannot really fire every defensive coordinator that Mahomes has made look bad in the playoffs.
If Shannahan thought Wilks made the right decisions on defense, and Mahomes just made him look bad, I doubt he would have been fired. Mahomes really didn’t have much pressure on him, and his receivers, especially Kelce, were pretty wide open all night.
They were talking on the broadcast that it looked like the 9ers called at least one timeout because Wilks was making calls the Shanny wasn’t happy about. If that was more than a 1 or 2 drive thing and depending on how the conversation went after the game, this isn’t a surprise to me.
So Shanny doesn’t trust his own DC?
Chris Carter must be buds with Shanny.
I think this sort of played out throughout the season actually. When we beat the Niners we pretty much moved the ball at will. The kicker missing both an extra point, and a field goal, were the only reason the Niners were remotely close at the end of the game.
they have the same problem most all NFL defenses have – require pressure. KC ran those short crossing routes, like we did and the Bengals did against them. Without pressure, good NFL QB’s – especially Mahomes with Kelce, will beat this.
Damn, that is harsh. He ran a very good D all season, and the first 3 quarters of the Owl… but, yes, they did give up the win.
And one of his stars – Bose – saying something like they weren’t well prepared.
An offense with 5 all Pros, best playcaller in the business, scores 22 points (with overtime) and they fire the DC.
How about the head coach not talking to his team once about the overtime rules in the playoffs? The Chiefs went over them every day. The 9ers players had no clue.
Guess Shanahan can’t fire the HC.
Get ready…..
Site your sources for copying and pasting for those first two paragraphs please! Ill do this one for you.
What if we suck at copying and pasting??
What if we are just lazy?
Its fine but most posters that do that say ” I found this here” or “So and so at this web site or on this show said this” They dont just blindly paste it in the add a few words from their own mind. Thats call plagiarism. And us porch dwellers dont like that.
You do know I do whatever I want, whenever I want, however I want… right?
Stay on the porch son.
Im just going to screen shot this (from the porch) so next time I see you getting called out for copying other peoples words and using them as your own (you do what you want right? Even if its using others thoughts and opinions and throwing them around as your own) I can let every one know that your eyes are REALLY brown if you get my meaning. From the porch of course.
Who cares what you do? Certainly not me. And posting stuff here for others to see, and stimulate conversation, is all just a pastime. I never claim anything is or is not my original thought BTW. You make shit like that up in your head, like a clueless loon all you like.
I’ll post whatever I want, whenever I want, however I want.
Stay on the porch son.

I dislike her.
How could you dislike good ol’ Binder?
Mr. Ed auto rec!
I remember buying the DVD collection of that show when my kids were little.
Good times.
I loved the song for that show.
I used to know the lyrics by heart.
I’d have to dust off my memory to sing it now.
now I am singing that song. “A horse is a horse, of course of course, …..
“…..and nobody talks to a horse of course, unless of course, the horse is the famous Mr Ed !
Go right to the source and ask the horse…..”
A horse is a horse, of course, of course,
And no one can talk to a horse of course
That is, of course, unless the horse is the famous Mr. Ed.
Go right to the source and ask the horse
He’ll give you the answer that you’ll endorse.
He’s always on a steady course.
Talk to Mr. Ed.
Any wrestlers around that can explain this to me?
I don’t know much about that kind of wrestling, I watch real wrestling. In fact I am going to the gophers dual with the badgers Friday, I’m guessing the rodents over the weasels by a comfortable margin. I am also looking forward to watching the Olympics this summer as Gable Steveson is reportedly going to participate one more time. I would not bet against him, though his inexperience in freestyle at the international level nearly cost him gold last time, he’s such a freak athlete and so technically sound on his feet he overcame it.
https://youtu.be/fSXPmihrX3c
My youngest is wrestling this year so we’ve watched a little college on tv. The son of one of his coaches is going to Iowa next year and I think he is the 3rd kid from the same school to go to Iowa for wrestling in the last 2 or 3 years.
That is good, Iowa is still top 5 program, but far from the team that dominated the sport under Gable.
I keep reading about the latest “trend” of famous people not leaving their money to their kids.
This is just stupid to me.
(Unless your kid/children are complete evil, or lazy ass takers, who I blame the parent for making them that way)
Who do I want to leave a legacy to?
My own flesh and blood or someone I don’t know and has no respect or memory of me?
To me this “my kids aren’t getting anything” is just idiotic.
Tell me why I’m wrong.
You’re not wrong! A man lives his life to take care of his wife and kids. So as he dies, who else would he ever even consider leaving his money to. And I don’t want the government to get one damn penny.
If you don’t leave it to your family, aren’t you telling your family you don’t care for them?
That’s what I would think.
Yes. I hear some of these billionaires say stuff like I’ve already given them so much, don’t want to ruin or over spoil them – good for them.
The rest of us mere mortals just want to do as best for our family as we can – even from the grave.
Yep.
I’m just a middle class smuck.
My kids are the ONLY people getting anything from me.
You can donate it to charitable orgs or whatever also. If I were truly wealthy I’d leave my kids enough to live comfortably for the rest of their lives, and trusts for any grandchildren, and my wife the bulk but I’d probably also leave a fair amount for IJM and other orgs like that, maybe donate a chunk to my alma mater for scholarships to students who want to get a legit degree but are financially challenged like I was.
Ditto on the kids and grandkids. I would then buy as much land as possible and set it up in a trust to MT Fish, Wildlife, and Parks with a perpetual easement for the public.
That’s kind of a cool idea too, like with a stipulation it can never be developed or sold.
Yep, perpetual access year round, with off road limits and such being ok. Preferably, walk in only unless it is a huge chunk of land. Screw around and try to close it, it reverts to my kids or their heirs or the heirs get market price for it.
I get that if I had that kind of money I might give some to a charity.
But I’m taking care of my kids and grandkids FIRST.
The people making the claims are saying their kids get nothing.
Yeah, I’d take care of my family, maybe even some extended family, but if we’re talking like billionaire money I’d definitely leave some to church/charities.
I’m a huge proponent of the old book “The Millionaire Next Door”. There is real evidence that financial gifts to adult children make them dependent on such gifts and also leads to real unhappiness in their lives.
I know my parents were very frugal and have a pretty good idea of how much my mother has in savings, and it is approaching or above seven figures. I don’t want a red cent of it cuz I’m just going to see it get taxed to the nines and if she does leave me something will just turn around and donate it to charity (she knows this but still lives like a skin flint in the senior living center I stuck her in and never visit her). I hope to Chris that she gives it all to my sister or charity.
I do not plan on leaving significant cash to my stepchildren. Maybe my wife will if I kick off first which is her business. The land, though, stays in the family.
My two cents.
PS I love famous people they pay so much taxes you gotta love ’em. Think of what Taylor Swift’s return looks like.
My kids will not get rich when I die. The house will be paid for, but Mrs Surly has a very long life expectancy with her Irish-German farmer DNA. Most of her family lives well into their 90s, and she likes to shop.
I will be lucky to hit 80. I just want the house paid off and enough saved up that my wife can keep QVC and a few local stores in business once I die.
I just think selfishly of my own scenario. I am 54 and don’t want for anything in my life. I assume most of us talking about our adult kids are in a similar situation where the kids are about 20 years younger, so when we die at age 80 or so not sure what wild and crazy things a 60 year old is gonna want to do with the inheritance.
Now if you are 40 and have young kids, yeah, you better have them in the will. But as life situations change so do the needs of one’s heirs.
My stepkids get the shouse, land, vehicles, oh and the dogs. Very important the dogs. Whoever gets the dogs gets 10% of the financial assets.
We finally got the will set up, but since it is just the one property, there really is no need for any fancy lawyer trusts. Kids are beneficiaries of our bank accounts, retirement, etc.
If my wife lives long enough they will not get very much, but both kids are doing better as young adults that I was at 30 years old.
I get it to a point. Swimming in money leads to expectations of more.
The first $12 million given away in an estate is tax free…….
You probably pay more in taxes than Swift. She is on the correct side of the aisle and can afford the best tax team to lower her tax burden while also complaining about the rich paying their fair share.
No way. I bet she pays 8 figures a year in taxes. Think of all the royalties, her private jet, multiple homes, estates, etc…
I do pay too much in taxes though.
Yeah. She is paying taxes.
It’s just a matter of how much is deferred into the future.
Well, that sucks.
It’s an election year.
…here comes the pre-planned election year crisis…
That’s what I was thinking too.
I assume the R from Ohio is an anti Trumper.
But I guess the crisis card could be played either way.
‘foreign military capability’? Iran atomic weapon, N.Korea ICBM ‘s ? What does this mean?
Those are two good guesses.
Domestic attack from all the terrorists they let come across the southern border?
Just heard today, in the last 4 months we have let over 20,000 young military age Chinese across our Southern border. chinese – really!
Yep, something like a 4500 x increase in Chinese encounters at the southern border since Sleepy took office.
MAGA…..
Can only mean one thing, weapons of mass destruction in Irak! Oh, wait…

I know politics are not on the nice list here.
But, I have to ask. Is there any way Biden can show up for a live, unscripted debate?
I see people with fewer memory issues when I visit my father in the memory care facility.
Short answer, no.
It’s more likely all a farce to try and scare congress into passing the Ukraine bill. Gonna be some vague threat about Russia invading Poland.
Hopefully.
Not if it means they send another 100 Billion to Ukraine for laundering. It would obviously be better than a real threat, but I don’t believe anything they say and the timing is highly suspect.
Still avoiding any football shows or talk. Chiefs/Swift, UGH. Might be a few more weeks before I venture back.
Yeah… same here. The stuff they are focusing on is stupid. This is why I watch games with the sound off too.
NFL Radio on XM, at least Movin the Chains is pretty good and they have probably the best draft/prospect analysis around.
Wife is making me a nice hot pastrami on rye, with provolone and mustard. This is one of my favorite sammiches.
That girl is awesome!
Quit bragging
Where did the pastrami come from? I love pastrami but after getting Katz in NYC pastrami… no pastrami has hit the same lol. So fucking good!
She gets the pastrami from a deli near us. She likes to cook, and she gets all her meats from butchers and this deli.
You have a good deli shop over there. We haven’t been a able to find one since we got down here.
Yes, and I agree, they are hard to find.
I think pastrami might be one of my next smoker projects. I love pastrami but it is a pretty involved process. With St. Patty’s day coming up I may be able to cheaply shorten the process a bit.
marble or jewish?
Jewish
Nice, not that either is wrong but I tend to lean Jewish most of the time. there’s a traditional Jewish deli here in St. Paul that makes some elite sammies and I usually grab a loaf of their jewish rye and a pound of pastrami on the way out even though its like $6 a loaf and $15 a pound, but its worth it.
Yep, we get the bread and sandwich meats from our deli too. Costs a little more, but really good. My wife has about a dozen different kinds of mustard too.
Yum! You are indeed a lucky guy.
I am lucky… and I know it!
From your stories here, I think you do a terrific job of showing her how much you appreciate her too. Makes a difference.
Thank you Kathy. We will be celebrating 23 years of marriage in 11 days. We are still “in love” and we take great care of each other.
We’re coming up on 27 years of marriage, 31 years together, and can’t stand each other…wife tries to poison me often…I’ve tried the pillow over her face but she keeps waking up, but I don’t think she believes me when I say I was just adjusting her pillow…
At least she doesn’t put cherry tomatoes on your salad, that’s when you know she truly hates you.
EXACTLY! You know what the best thing is about lean cuisine meals are? THE DON”T COME WITH CHERRY TOMATOES!!
Just had a delicious Pasta and chicken meal.
Maybe she secretly owns stock in tomato companies and she gets paid every time she serves them…..
I just picture her maniacally giggle while she puts them on his salad in the morning.
This would not surprise me.
The way I look at it, the tomatoes are either an evil joke or she just cares about you eating right. To test this theory, you should convince her that you really hate bacon on your salad. If she starts adding bacon, that’s a win on the lunch but she is just messing with you. If she doesn’t, then she just cares about you eating healthy and your tastes be damned.
Brilliant!…I will tell her I hate bacon on the salad..
All you youngsters.
28 years for my wife and I.
Not sure when my accident will happen, but I have a solid life insurance policy.
8 here, 12 together.
Amazingly, my wife and I have been married 35 years…even though she keeps trying to poison my salad with those stupid tomatoes.
Looks like you are the winner.
in 11 days it will be 35 years for Mrs. Surly and I.
No cherry tomatoes in my salad, as I do all the cooking.
35 years today – our anniversary! And we’re eating tonight what we did on first date – BigMac’s/Fries and a six pack.
Congrats and well done on getting married on Valentine’s day so you combine two holidays.
Awesome and Congrats!
Yeah! congrats!
Not our anniversary but we are having steak tonight to VDay.
That sounds like a great first Date!
and Congrats!
We went to Figlios for dinner, then Williams night club for some bad dancing after, on our first date.
33 years married, 37 years together.
Not sure why she put up with me for that long.
Maybe you are good at fixing stuff?
I was in the military for 34 years, so, in all that time together (37 years), we have probably been physically together for only about 15 years….maybe she’ll get sick of me now that I am always at home… ๐
I’m just around still cuz I pay the mortgage.
My wife only keeps me around for the sex.
Surely you must then be ‘arm candy’ too!
Pulled Pork
โข 4# Pork butt
โข 2T Chili powder
โข ยฝT Paprika
โข 1T Cumin
โข 1t Garlic powder
โข 1/2t Cayenne
โข 2t Salt
โข 2t Pepper
โข 2T Brown sugar (or Coconut sugar if you have it)
1. Let pork come to room temp
2. Heat oven to 275 degrees
3. Trim fat cap, leaving 1/8โ of fat
4. Score fat with knife
5. Rub seasoning on all sides, coat generously
6. Let sit at room temp for 15โ
7. Cook uncovered in roaster for 4-5 hours
8. Remove when internal temp reaches 205 degrees
9. Let rest for 15โ
10. Shred and serve, add juices from the pan for moisture if desired
So, here’s the rest of the recipe for those interested. We did it once in the oven as stated at Christmas (it was delicious but timing was messed up and it didn’t reach 205, didn’t shred well), and this past weekend we did it on the pellet grill. Differences were that on the grill I had a 10# butt and smoked at 250 for about 12 hours and the internal temp only came up to about 180, so I turned it up to 350 for another hour to reach 205. And I did not trim the fat cap down. Then we added a can of beer after shredding. I have a pair of oven-safe mitts, and the meat came apart effortlessly.
Having some leftovers for lunch today, can’t wait.
I use a very similar dry rub without the sugar. I spray it with coconut oil a few times while smoking.
Now I want some pulled pork….
I just roll with premade rubs. I’ve got 9 different varieties from Meat Church. This one is good on pork.

Everything from Meat Church is amazing.
sound good, should put bacon in it
Mick would be happy.
Three-round 2024 NFL mock draft: Vikings trade up for QB Bo Nix in Round 2
Read this yesterday. Has us taking Dallas Turner @ 1.11?
Three mid to late rounders to trade up in the 2nd round?
Seems like a steep price.
I don’t even see the trade details
He discusses the trade in his 1st round mock.
What an idiot.
Does seem a bit steep on its face, but assuming its lower of the picks in those rounds the vikings come out ahead in draft value chart.
If we’re going to spend 3 picks on a QB, we should go for one of the top ones that might be helpful right away.
With this trade we get a single day-1 starter, a QB that needs to marinate a couple years, and a few late-round projects and fliers who shouldn’t cut ties with their backup plans.
Not really the recipe you need to build a competitive team.
I tend to agree with this take.
Have not been to the Minnesota state fair in a few years, since most people suck.
I see Motley Crue is playing. Guess I need to go this year.
I steer clear of the fair as well, my oldest is an age now where she wants to go this summer, I may take a day off from work to take her, but no way am I going in the evening or weekend.
In high school before football games the offense and defense would separate for meetings about 15 minutes before coming out for warmups.
Offense would go over calls and play packages.
Defense would crank โKickstart My Heartโ on a boom box and mosh in the locker room.
Dont waste your money on Crew. Saw em back in 2014 and they were mid then already and that was a decade ago. There’s a reason Mick Mars left the band and tried to leave a long time ago and is now vilifed by the others. He called them on their shit. They dont sing live, they dont even play live half the time, Niki Sixx barely touches his bass. If you want the live crew experience just get in your vehicle and play their albums really loud because thats what the concert is going to be, their album recordings. And I say this as a massive Crew music fan, but they’re total tools and frauds live.
Not the first time Iโve heard this.
Meh, never seen them and I am ok with a lip sync show.
AC/CD live a few years ago is probably the best show I have seen live in years.
Thats fair, just warning yuh now ha. Hope the tickets are cheap. I saw ACDC in 2009 when they still had Malcom on rhythm and in 2016
I saw the 2016 AC/DC show. Good times.
Tickets for crue are 97 to $127 plus fees for the seats I would get.
My Son wants to go, and I am in.
If the show is bad I can always buy another overpriced beer and some mini donuts
Still cheaper than a Vikings game……
And watching 8 attempt a game winning drive in a play off game sounds more shitty than listening to Fat Vince Neil attempt to hit high notes
Oh man, thanks for that.
$500 to see them lose to Buffalo in 2018, and another $600 to see them lose vs Chicago same year.
At least I will be less angry than that, even if the concert sucks.
Yeah, have fun with the kid, $100 is cheaper than I paid.
I have never gone as I have always either been playing football or coaching football… this will be the first time I can go and I am probably going! Seeing Motley Crue now… ew
They are dog shit live. I lost respect for them as musicians and entertainers. Which sucks.
Running on the fumes of pure nostalgia
I mean its making $$ so cant blame em. But where’s the self respect you know?
Thereโs zero self respect. Ever see the Vince Neil cameo from a few years ago he made for a fanโs birthday. Itโs hilarious. Heโs absolutely shitfaced.
On his own shitty Tequila brand im sure.
Probably.
It’s easy money man. But I agree.
Man, that is so bad it is funny.
Reminds me of the Swiftie one where they isolate her mike.
Here are some options to discuss.
Formulating Vikings free agency plans, with and without Kirk Cousins (msn.com)
No
I agree – although Iโd have no problem adding Espenesa – thought he played pretty well in Buffalo. Donโt hate Van Ginkel either.
LOL.
Apparently, the salary cap doesn’t exist for this author.
He wants the Vikings to add $55 million+ to the cap, not including Kirko.
Well I mean, the cap is a myth after all.
Just saw my home owners insurance is going up 35% this year….
Anyone else have similar horror stories?
Just like everything else in the Biden economy. Can’t see how people are making it anymore. Costs have doubled everywhere, but income is stagnant, if not going the other way.
It’s not Joe’s fault. It’s the evil, greedy companies raising their prices. All that needs to happen is for companies to lower their prices and problem solved. According to what’s her face though, prices don’t need to come down because people are making more money.
It’s always the fault of capitalism and free enterprise.
You have any claims recently or has there been any widespread hail or something like that in your area? 35% is quite a bit, I’d check around for another provider.
Yep – Florida is terrible.
Yep, the insurance rates have really climbed, down here. That sucks.
My horror story is with State Farm. We have had three roof claims in 26 years. first time they covered 25% of the roof, and only after we had interior water damage. second claim they covered 1/2 of the roof (2009). Last summer, July 3 hailstorm, we had 25+ storm chasers out on the 4th of july. filed a claim with one, rejected. meanwhile I see 11 neighbors in a 2 block radius all getting new roofs. knocked on doors until I found one that was State Farm. Neighbor right behind me got full coverage with state farm and a new roof paid for. State farm allowed $1500 for all the soft metal dmg, but claims you can peel back the shingles, replace the valley metal, and the shingles will not break.
using a third party for arbitration. State farm is fucking evil and not just because they paid Rogers. Still nothing. Now we are waiting for spring even though the roof has no snow, and you can still see the damage from the ground.
I don’t like this story. State Farm is who I have now. My sewer is messed up and needs to be replaced. One company gave me a quote for 15K. Insurance will only cover any damage in the house caused by “water” backing up.
once it is settled, add the rider for city utilities. Under $200 per year in most cases and covers things like that.
So stupid that you have to ask for things that an agent knows you could need, but in my experience, major companies have agents that work for the company, not the consumer.
This is really more anger inducing that another Kirko extension.
Once it is fixed it better not be an issue. The problem is that my house was built in ’55 so it has cast and clay pipes. The cast coming out of the house is cracked. The clay has roots coming in and has a 30 foot or so section that sags so it doesn’t drain properly. To add to that, where it connects to the city main is also broken. At least here, the sewer line is my responsibility all the way into the main. There is a chance that my neighbor is going to be able to get some of his co-workers to do the job for me for about 5K. The difference is they would have to actually dig up my whole yard, but I don’t have any grass anyway and for a 10K savings I have no problem moving the sandbox that is in the way.
My dad is currently fighting them over this same issue. Bad hail storm last May and it pummeled the house. Heโs gotten windows replaced but they fought him on the roof until he threatened to sue. Repairs are done and theyโre still fighting over ticky-tack charges. All State Farm.
Yeah, the thing to do in my opinion is find an insurance agent that can sell insurance from multiple companies. That guy works for you, but is still paid commission from the insurance companies. You have a better chance at having an advocate that will just change your policy to a different agency if they fuck around.
My wife has a misguided loyalty to State Farm since family ties.
I really hate that company, and this issue my put her over the edge.
I forgot to mention the other two partial claims, neighbors all had complete roof replacements when we got partial.
That is infuriating.
I’ve had State Farm for decades. The only claim I ever filed was when I had significant damage in my last condo, including white mold, from rain water. The first offer from them was ridiculous. I had to hire professional remediators to do the work. Luckily, the main guy had previously worked as an insurance adjuster. He said they all do it, but particularly State Farm is difficult to work with. He negotiated with them for me. It was a lot of documents back and forth, took a while, but he ended up getting them to cover most everything. Other than my deductible, the only thing I had to pay for was the new carpet.
Yep, I am finding that they are very difficult to work with. After two claims that were partially paid, I am angry enough to argue with all the surliness I can muster. I will not give up on this one.
They have always paid Auto claims with no issues, had a motorcycle stolen and one child had two accident claims. All that stuff was paid right away, but the house is a bigger ticket item. They hate not making money…
My homeowners has been pretty stable.
Car insurance is another matter.
My local insurance guy wants 3,500 for house insurance….
I have always had a local guy, have felt its just easier to go and look someone in the eyeballs if an issue arises.
Progressive is quoting me 1,500 for what appears to be the same coverage.
Has anyone had any experience with Progressive?
Not on homeowners.
I had them for car insurance for a long time until we had a claim.
They doubled our premiums.
We were good with them until then.
Yes, that’s kind of when you need them right? When you have a claim.
They paid the claim fine.
It’s just after the claim, they attempted to get their money back.
That’s a big difference in money – almost too good to be true. Suggest really going over the fine print.
Everyone has different circumstances, but finding value in combing home owners, car and overall umbrella coverage with one company. Sort of a volume discount type thing.
Thats…a lot, holy shit.
I’m actually hunting buddies with my agent (State Farm) and he has been good to us. He lived a couple of houses down from us in Billings and had a vizsla so we became dog bros with our v’s.
Since I’m a car whore I am probably one of his best private customers.
I visit with him about coverage a couple of times a year. I got umbrella through SF as well. Disability and life are through companies associated with my work.
I’ve been happy.
Jeff did share that the cost for insurance in Billings and Glendive is significantly higher than his place in Kalispell, just due to the recent hail storms over the last couple of decades. The rates used to be identical prior to that big Father’s Day storm with the tornado that hit the Metra.
I am fine with insurance rates going up a bit as things happen.
I am not fine with having to fight the company every time I have a claim on my biggest investment (house)
Got this for my wife for Valentines Day
See, a gift like that is something we can agree on. I want to get this one:

Laughing… in that case, should we have married a liberal? Grin.
I did. And they do. ๐
And Conservatives swallow!
Yes! Knew a snowflake would down vote!
Does seem if you go against prevailing thinking you will get a red flag. By the way, what’s a snowflake?
It’s the white crap falling out of the sky right now. I think it happens when the angels start watching racy movies.
I legit almost spit out my coffee reading thisโฆ.. ๐
Bet you think twice when catching snow on your tongue now.

I always pretend itโs fallout from a nuclear blast.
I also like to take my blood pressure pill like itโs a cyanide capsule and Iโm out of ammo and Charlie is closing inโฆ.
Salty snow… uh oh!
Itโs what we call the dandruff on Clay Matthewsโs shouldersโฆ..
The harder you go left or right (tool) the more you only want echo chambers in your life. These folks can’t understand/stand there are others that think differently and that doesn’t make them wrong. Discussing facts on a subject is one thing, your opinion on how we go about life based on those facts is another.
A snowflake was a term used by Redumblicans to describe soft ass Dumbocrats. When just like with everything else there are just as many cry baby softies on the right as there are on the left.
Well. I would say I’m a pretty fair conservative. But I appreciate opposing opinions. Pretty hard to have a balanced discussion when everyone says ‘yes sir’ and merely adds another layer of โ he company line.
So keep pitching and keep us all on our toes.
By the way, I know some very ‘hard assed’ democrats.
Also, gave you an upvote even though it’s a bit of a shot at me.
Fair conservative or far? Totally changes the context. And true, because once again you can hold hard personal beliefs but at the same time understand others can think differently and that’s OK. Most people don’t think like that.
Perhaps should have just said ‘simple conservative.’
If you couldn’t tell, I was trying to give you a compliment, in my awkward way.
lol, I was trying to give you one as well.
I gave Edge a down vote…just for being a wishy washy middle of the road speed bump.
I’m not wishy washy. I’m pretty stern on things like the 2nd amendment, small government, but I am also stern on personal rights and liberties where the right wants to legislate morality etc… At the same time, I will continue to be wrong on things like I have in the past and am willing to change when I am…
I am kidding Edge! I generally enjoy hearing your point of view, even when its wrong (not the same as mine).
lol, sorry I still get use to everyone on here assuming I’m some kind of far left wing hippie tree hugger.
Well you are, soooo….
Lol I love that
Love me some Taylor Swift…Thanks Ben
I think we all agree that regardless of any trades he might make in the draft, KAM better bring in someone who is a bona fide game changer. Addison turned out to be a nice pick in the first round last year. Need a starter, who makes a difference every single game, in the first round this year. That’s what the first round is for. Finding a true impact player. Stick with that approach.
We most definitely do not agree on this.
QotD:
WE NEED A STUD IDL.
A game-wrecker. A Cortez Kennedy type. A Vince Wolfork clone. The 2nd coming of John Randle.
Go get Chris Jones or Christian Wilkins. Or Justin Madubuike. Any of these 3 would be a massive upgrade.
Here is my latest action figure acquisition…
That is awesome. Is the spear-gun detachable?
Hmmm… seems to me, I said this months ago…
Should that be the #11 pick though?
That should be JJ, whether it is at 11 or they use it to move up or down.
Will JJ be a true impact player, who is a game changer right out of the gate? I think not. First round pick should find THAT kind of player.
Yeah, the Packers really screwed the pooch using a first rounder on Rodgers. Same with the Chiefs and Mahomes. I mean look at how bad the Chiefs have been since then. Absolutely can’t use a top half of the first round pick on a player who isn’t going to play his first year. Much better to use said pick on a player like Cine, or Waynes, or Gladney, or Hughes. The first round pick should be somebody who is going to be on the team for the long term. JJ will be Burrow Jr.
Still, an excellent use of sarcasm by Bow.
When you hit a home run swinging at the first pitch, everyone applauds. Not so much when you fan.
You mean like Sam Darnold?
John Knowles sounds like a humorless dick.
A Separate Piece is one of the greatest novels produced in these here United States.
Now, I cannot speak for his sense of humor, and he died in 2001 so we can’t ask him about it.
I see your point, but just because they already had great teams, and could invest in a future chance, doesn’t make that plan viable for teams like the Vikings.
If your premise is that the Vikings do not have a good team, then one player is not going to make a difference this year anyway so what is the difference between having a good player on the field or a QB sitting on the bench that will be ready to lead the team for the next 15 years starting in 2025 or 2026? QBs last longer, so get that guy now and then get your “difference makers” when the QB is ready to roll. Your difference maker is younger then and you are set up for longer term success. Draft the difference makers now, by the time the QB is ready to go and the rest of the team is built, said difference maker will be looking for a new contract or walking. This is of course going with your assumption that QBs can’t be good to start, even with plenty of examples of success.
This is weird logic. Take players in the early rounds that will make the team better immediately. Take projects later.
A player that will make your team better for the next 20 years is better than a player that may be good but make no real difference in the outcome of the game for 5-10 at best. JJ is a great WR, but doesn’t make a major difference at the end of the day and probably only has 5-8 years of prime play left. Get a player, the other JJ, that will change the trajectory of the team for the next 2 decades.
The other JJ likely will not change the trajectory of the team (positively that is) for the next 2 decades. That’s total fool’s gold. Begin at the beginning. Start with the players that make the team better today, stop reaching for tomorrow.
A d-lineman will not change the trajectory of the team today. Hunter is pretty damn good and what difference has it made? Drafts are for long term, free agency is for now type players. I’d rather get the long term answer at QB and sign a FA IODL.
I think your logic here would work IF we had a QB on the roster that is of starting caliber.
I agree with Bow on this, get your QB this year, since there is no starting caliber QB on the roster.
Again, this will all depend on what happens with Cousins. If we sign cousins we may be able to get a more developmental QB in the second round and let him sit for 2 years.
Come on that is really stacked logic. What if your “20 year” player is a bust, and the “good” today player is actually a difference maker from day one.
Like San Fran with Trey Lance? Guy was bad, so they moved on.
Rather swing and miss vs just keep trying the same thing.
Moved on to a 7th rounder – I’m fine with that.
But I’m also find with doubles and triples too. That is not , repeat not, doing the same thing over etc.
But projects have a higher percentage of working out if you take them in early rounds……LOL
Well, 50% of the QBs that played in the SB this year were drafted in the 7th round.
50% ain’t nothin to sneeze at!
Trying to understand you here.
Can’t you draft a difference maker that actually makes a difference from day one – ala Parsons in Dallas?
Now, I’m fine with drafting a QB, a future difference maker, to sit for a while and learn – ala Rodgers. But at the same time, that QB may turn out to not be much of a difference maker, or even a starting NFL QB. And 15 years is really large.
Just me, does seem the Parsons type selection has a higher chance of success, and even at the difference maker level.
I must be not understanding your poiint.
Parsons type players are a difference maker play to play, but does not really change the overall outcome. What have the Cowboys done? They’ve got Diggs too who has been a pretty good player.
Who changed the trajectory and competitiveness of their team more, Burrow or Parsons? Barr or Allen? Even Aaron Donald is not enough to get the team to the SB. The Rams still had to have a QB (and and offense when they were rolling with Goff that was ahead of the rest of the NFL).
Parsons took an 18-20 ranked defense and made it top 5. If you have a player like him. Chris Jones, Aaron Donald, they make a difference every play they are on the field.
Now, certainly a Rodgers or Mahomes will make even more of a difference.
But the problem with the strawman presented is is it’s some biased. I would say drafting a Donald has a much higher chance of success than drafting a QB. Both can be difference makers, and the QB more so, but you have a higher ‘chance’ of success with the Donald type pick.
I simply maintain you have a much higher chance of making a good pick at say DT than QB. It’s not whether the QB has more impact overall.
Yep.
Manning, Luck, Elway, Allen, Burrow, Mahomes, Stroud etc… were all the dumbest 1st round picks in the history of the NFL.
Depends on if they can get madubuike or wilson in FA
Correct. If they bring in any of the guys I listed in FA then Iโd expect them to go QBOTF or Edge – all depends on the plan at QB, which looks increasingly likely that theyโll move on from Kirk. If they donโt move on from KC (again, unlikely) then Iโd like to see Dallas Turner brought in.
Bears are trading down, book it.
Probably.
This is basically advertising that the number pick is for sale.
What does Chicago do if they don’t get the offers they want?
MHJr?
They’ll get at least decent offers, might not be like 3 first round picks to move down 3 spots but they’ll get offers of at least slightly over value for the pick. Now, for the Vikings it would have to be at least 3 first round picks and more.
JJ for that pick and next years 1st rounder.
Not necessary. Let some other team draft the cry baby, MH Jr, and Maye. No need to go higher than 4 or 5 and if history is any indication they should be able to only go up to about 7 or 8 or more likely stay put and still get JJ. We’ll see how all of the underwear olympics go however.
I actually do not want them to take williams. Just go get the guy you like.
What if the guy they want is williams?
Then I have my new complaint for the next 4-7 years.
Until then, I want this dude gone.
Watch em extend Kirk and draft Williams. Just for you.
Man, that would be awful.
At least I still have Mahomes to root for.
Watch him trade back out of the first round all together.
As long as he gets lots of 7ths I guess.
Maybe just driving up the trade value of Fields.
Anything is possible.
Might be hard to walk that back if they do in fact trade Fields though.
whatever happens, given the Bears history and ability to put together a first rate offense, they will probably do the wrong thing.
Likely.
But I’m more concerned about the Vikings abilities to eff things up.
Rightfully so. As it is known, the Vikings are very good at effing things up.
Q of D. After watching SB, easy to note Mahomes is a force out there. But on the other side of the ball, Chiefs defense is stout and Chris Jones is a force out there. Does a lot of things anda real disrupter out there.
Would love to see us get A defensive player like this.
I agree, I actually think its a higher priority than Edge now that I think abou tit. Its easier to find guys who can pass rush off the edge than it is to find a truly disruptive interior lineman.
Noticed that one as well, I see ๐
I can’t help myself.
Tits OK we should be breast friends!
Hmmm….@do you think they are real?@
I don’t know. Let me watch it for another 20 or 30 minutes straight and get back to you on that.
If you used the blue pill, it wouldn’t take you that long.
Nothing is a higher priority than me! lololololololzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
I’m sure he was gone the minute Zim was hired.
Somehow I missed that Sharrif is coaching. Happy for him, always felt terrible about his botched surgery. I get others won’t agree, and that things really went south toward the end, but I’m also glad Zim was able to get another DC job.
I might be watching the cowpies a bit more closely next season, curious to see what Zim has left in the tank. Didn’t think he’d come back to coaching.
I think Zim will do well.
I also think he will have a meltdown when the Black Kirko costs them a playoff game.
LOL
I’ve heard this type of gobbledygook from some other QB.
Happy Valentine’s Day!
DL and interior OL imo.
Then CB
Then safety
Then BPA
No need for safeties. Even if Harry retires they still have Metellus and Cine.
Love this! Nice Bow!
Happy Hump Day!
Happy Hump Day!
Hump Day and Valentine’s day coincide…..
Could have swore it was Saturday when I woke up this morning, but nope.

Man, would be nice if it was Saturday already. Weekend can’t come soon enough.
Yeah, this has been a long week already and isn’t showing signs of letting up. The rest of the month is looking about the same. Stupid government.
Good morning, SKOL!
FTP!
Happy Hump Day!
Good morning, SKOL!
FTP & FT*!
Taylor Swift? Really?
Well she just won a Superbowl…
I searched valentine’s day songs and it came up.
Could have done a romantic song by Cannibal Corpse… I remember being with my girlfriend at a metal festival in college. She didn’t know how they like to roll and they go, “This song is for the ladies.” And she goes, “WOOOOOOOOOOOO” I go, “Stop, you probably don’t want to do that.” She goes, “Why?” Then the singer goes, “This next song is called, FUCKED WITH A KNIFE!” Ahhhh, they don’t make romantic songs like they use to.
I second this!
They are playing Omaha with Amon Amarth! I am going!
Pantera and Lamb of God tonight in Lincoln at PBA.
Sick, saw that show last summer in Milwaukee. You going?
Unlikely. Iโve never seen them live. Was supposed to go to a Damageplan show in Omaha about a month after Dimebag was murdered.
LOL.
You kids.
I have no idea what you are talking about.
M E T A L
๐ค๐ก๐ค
Oh damn, I never saw the original line up but had seen Down a few times and got to see Damageplan in Sommerset, WI. They did two PanterA covers. They did Walk and A New Level. Fuckin ruled.
Sounds great, have fun!
A romance song about fucking a dead cannibal’s corpse with a knife eh? That was not one of the top songs to come up.
Yes. And you will like it.
