Thread Guidelines
- Keep politics out. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down the rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
- Be cool to one another. Like it says above, just be civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone and that’s fine, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument not the poster.
- Keep the NSFW to a minimum. We don’t need anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
- All in all, be adults. Treat each other with respect and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. If you want to reach out about something feel free to ask. We want to have robust discussions, that’s why we’re here. Just be civil and cool to one another.
Not possible.
We’ve been told he must take the vet minimum, and can’t accept anymore than the vet minimum.
We figured this out already. So why post BS?
If Denver releases Wilson in March, the $39M owed to him on the way out would be reduced by however much he earns from a new team in 2024.
A minimum salary for Wilson comes in at $1.21M.
Of course he will play for $1.21M (league vet minimum) because he’s really making $39M.
He’s just making it clear, he’s on the market, and available for league minimum. If he doesn’t realize every GM in the league already knows this though, it makes me wonder how stupid he really is.
He’s making a spectacle of himself as usual. That’s all.
“Vet Minimum contract start for a team next season”
All additional seasons in the contract will be near NFL record highs.
Potentially… not an absolute. Team could structure a contract where the first year is a “prove it” deal. Wilson hasn’t exactly lit up the league since leaving Seattle, so a GM would be wise to let him know they need to see it, to believe it.
Wilson is a SB winning QB, borderline HOF, a known commodity. This is his last chance at a Big Payday, he will not come cheap (except for the 1st year).
We will have to see what he signs for, Hopefully there are GMs even dumber than KAM that offer him bigger $$.
Not my thing, but couldn’t he go play for US Minimum wage and Broncos would have to pay the difference. Seems it’s totally ‘free’ money to him.
If cut by the Donkos (likely) he would free to sign anywhere and Denver would be on the hook for the 1st $39M for 2024.
After that the team foolish enough to sign him would then be on the hook for whatever he could milk them for.
FYI his contract with the Donkos was Multi Year, Guaranteed, with NTC much like KCs.
It is, and it’s why I said KAM would be considering him, because he’s cheap. If you recall several folks tried to tell me he wouldn’t be cheap. They were wrong of course.
Think cheap is relative – be like buying a brown pair of lofters to go with your tuxedo.
Maybe inexpensive.
Laughing… brown loafers with my tuxedo??? Nice!
We were arguing that the Contract would not be cheap, the 1st year, sure.
Wilson is not going to sign a 1y deal.
I won’t invest time or energy to craft a deal on-line that would be palatable to Wilson, and also give a GM all the “outs” they need to limit Wilsons tenure to anything they want. I can only surmise such a deal could be crafted, and sold to Wilson. It is my opinion, that KAM would probably at least attempt to make a deal like that with Wilson.
But that is NOT what you claimed.
You claimed he is not allowed to sign anything more than the league minimum, which is false.
If you admitted you were wrong and I missed it, I apologize.
Yes, that information was revealed based on further discussion and discovery. You are really wrapped around the axle trying to personally attack me. It’s ridiculous.
Another Herschel Walker trade? Pass.
Given who we have making the call, no trust to get it right.
Plus with all the needs we have in the trenches/on Defense those picks are better spent there.
Of course KAM makes the big money to make the call.
At least The CryBaby should be gone by #3.
Man’s gotta know his limitations.
Some of us are still exploring ours.
I don’t think the Bears draft a QB at #1.
They most likely trade out.
If not, they draft MHJ
That is who the Mocks have them drafting most often with the #1 pick.
After their passing on Mahomes for Trabinski, if they pass on Williams, Poles better have his plane ticket purchased.
If he takes The CryBaby he will be run out of town right after Mr Painted Nails has his 1st Mental Breakdown.
It’s what GMing is all about.
Damned if you do or damned if you don’t.
Poles didn’t draft Trubisky.
I know – but there’s a lot of ‘tenderness’ there over the colossal f’u. and there will be about zero slack for another one.
So what if they fail by taking Williams and passing on any other QB?
I just dont think the Trubisky/Mahomes draft is that prominent in Chicago for Poles tenure.
Just think they will get slightly more slack going with Willams – even if he fails. More of a franchise thing than a Poles thing.
Definitely don’t want a Hershel type deal.
Not sure how realistic a move it is.
It is now full on lying season in the NFL.
Last season the Carolina Panthers sent the Chicago Bears two first-round picks (’23 and ’24), two second-round picks (’23 and ’25) and wide receiver DJ Moore to move from No. 9 to No. 1.
What do you think it will take, for KAM to get the #1 pick in the draft this year, for Caleb Williams?
Far far too much – and the Carolina GM should have gotten fired (if he hasn’t been).
I agree, Bryce Young has potential, but that team is really hurting for the next 2 or 3 years now.
If KAM pays a buttload to move up for The CryBaby I may have to find another team to root for, or just give up on the NFL.
Mayes/Daniels I would be able to handle but The CryBaby???
I think he’s like the consensus #1 QB, by all accounts. I could be wrong. Regardless, moving up to the #1 pick, for whomever you might fancy, is gonna take some significant capitol, maybe including trading JJ.
I can see a smaller trade up if ‘Their Guy’ is falling a bit and they believe he won’t fall to 11.
No guarantees with young QB so personally a huge pay out to get ‘the One’ isn’t warranted.
Heck even Shanahan got it wrong and I would have more trust in him than KOC/KAM.
Yep. That “franchise QB” thing gets a lot of GM’s and Head Coaches. The athletic part is easy. The top tier QB’s in college have the physical and athletic traits that are needed in the NFL. The hard part is “between the ears” . The NFL requires a whole different level of processing, that college QB’s never begin to approach. They may understand defensive alignments, and what should work against them. They should understand the play concept as called, and be able to decipher pre-snap what’s going on against a defense. But once a play is underway, unless that first read is open, then the ability to see, understand, decide, and deliver in two seconds, is what separates the men from the boys.
Seems like there are three lvls.
Physical, like you mentioned most college QBs have enough, some a bit more some a bit less.Between The Ears, Mental Processing speed. KC has it, other good QBs as well. It, The ability to figure what it takes to win and do it in the moment. Brady/Mahomes lvl stuff. A Unicorn Ability.
Well “it” has a LOT to do with the quality of the team the QB is on. Name the bad team Brady played on. Same with Mahomes. They are both top shelf QB’s and great competitors, but when Mahomes O-line took a dump in the Super Bowl against the Bucs, he wasn’t able to do anything. Three field goals. That was it.
Andy Reid is a top shelf coach, and Belichick has been considered a HoF coach for 20 years. Good QB’s in good organizations, become great QB’s.
As the old saying goes, QB’s get too much credit when teams win, and too much blame when teams lose. They are basically in charge of one aspect of the team make-up. The passing game. Yes, “dual threat” QB’s are all the rage, but being a running QB is a LOT easier than being a pocket passer. Basically you’re a glorified running back with huge holes to run through when you escape the pocket.
If the success is repeated again and again it is due to a lot of things.
Yes a Great QB can’t do much by himself, nor a Great Coach, nor a Great Collection of Players (ie Free Agency Winners) without a Great QB or a Great Coach.
I would say ‘Two Out Of Three Ain’t Bad).
Not sure about the “athletic” part – at least completely.
There’s NFL ‘arms’ and really good ‘arms’. Being able to make all the throws, sideline to sideline, short to deep, with touch, velocity, and really importantly – with accuracey. Not all the QB’s can do this. Believe KOC spoke about these when he first got here.
And then’s there’s the ability to make 3-5 decisions in about a1.5 seconds.
Big Arms are nice to have, but I believe Brees/Brady/others managed it without that.
Milton from Tennessee is said to have a rocket launcher but he is expected to be a 7th rounder or UDFA.
Between the Ears is more important-er IMHO.
Didn’t say or mean to suggest (at least a requirement) for a ‘big arm.” All three you mention can make all the throws. Jimmy G, for example, does not throw well outside the numbers. Accuracey is by far a big deal. Now if you can throw the ball with a lot of RPM’s on it and put it in to a tight window – best.
I also think if you do have one of the weaker arms, you better have HOF accurracy and anticipation to make it.
And of course between the ears is everything.
You’re right JR. Guys who can make all the pro throws don’t grow on trees. Most compensate in some way. These days, it’s primarily with their legs, and “big” arms that send the ball deep. Velocity counts too. Sooner or later you have to throw into coverage, and you have to have the velocity to hit a guy 20 yards away with two guys covering him. So guys who can run, and have big arms are in vogue, but guys who can process and beat defenses with brains and arm talent are gold.
For everyone here – at this site- who like QB play, I would suggest they go to Pro Football films and listen to some of Greg Cosell’s podcasts on good QB play. Some really good stuff on what it takes.
Thanks… might take a look.
Seems like a simple equation.
Big Arms = Good
Big Brains = Better
Big Arms and Brains = Best.
Atlanta is in a very healthy cap situation going into 2024. According to Spotrac, they have almost $42M in cap space, with only $3M in dead money. Cousins to Atlanta, looks like something that “could” happen. It’s plausible. I would prefer he stay in Minnesota, but they are really hurting with so much dead money on the books.
Wash and Atl are the only two teams that could afford Kirkos guaranteed demands, without making significant roster moves.
I’m skeptical that he gets what he wants contract wise.
Well you hate Cousins, so you’re hoping no one signs him to a respectable contract. We get it.
It has nothing to do with what I want/think.
Its the reality of the FA landscape for him.
Personally, I hope some team other than Vikings signs him for $40 million or more per year, fully guaranteed.
I’m just stating reality. You want Cousins to fail so bad you can taste it.
You don’t know shit about me.
Laughing… we all know about you DE…
Mr spin doctor and liar at it again.
Ive never said I want Kirko to fail.
I am tired of him failing as the Vikings QB though.
He hasn’t failed though. You want him to fail… but he puts up big numbers every single year. Cousins is a great QB. Sorry, but the passing game is the only part of the team that has been great every single year. No other part of the team has even been just “good”.
You want him to fail… but he just plays great every year.
Well we ALL know what you want with Cousins
Happy Sunday!
-From the Porch
He wants Cousins to sell him a popsicle?? Odd.
I thought so too, and from a pretty girl at that.
Good morning all, today is our anniversary, but we celebrated yesterday. I’m actually working today, so it’s a good thing we got that done. Grin.
17 days till 13 March, and the combine this week will be full of speculation. General Managers, Coaches, agents, and players will all be in one place, at one time. The rumor mill is about to shift into overdrive.
Also, in 17 days or less, JR and I will know which of us was right.
Also my anniversary. Celebrated yesterday.
35 years today.
Congratulations Surly! Very awesome. We’re celebrating 23 years. Still, happy, still in love.
Neither of us thought it would last 5 years… grin.
My metal is getting tested with all the talk of KAM’s bean counter mentality. Takes two to tangle.
My position all along has been based on a business decision by KAM. It’s impractical re-sign Cousins at this point. The Vikings are in a hole, and they have to move on.
As you know, there’s far worse things than ‘being in a hole.’
Well, yes, but the first rule of holes is, when you’re in one, stop digging. I think this is where KAM is now.
Happy anniversary!
Thanks. We’re happy and that’s good!

19 comments, where’s ben’s summary?

I think you just posted one in his stead.
According to Draftkings, Vikes are heavy favorites to re-sign Cousins. I am hoping for a 4 year contract worth 32 million per year. Then we don’t have to mess around drafting a QB this year.
I figure 2yrs is a good number.
Get us thru those pesky ‘void years’ and give us time to find the QBoTF.
If they manage to get JJ or Daniels then in 2025 the youngster can start to get some playing time as KC older/injured-er.
Nearly 14% increase in cap, don’t think a JJ or KC will want less. Never ending.
Good thing we have a Bean Counter as a GM, he can keep track of the $$s.
Thats great, dont care what Kirk wants. And the Vikings and the NFL knew the cap was going up. This isnt a surprise to them. The cap going up means we have more money to build the roster, not give 8 MORE and extend him for MORE. 4 years? Thats stupid, and wanting that is stupid. Hence the GIF.
I’m sure KC and Hunter gone. Most likely take a step back on qb play but it’s time to move on.
Yesterday being a Lenten Friday I decided to try a Cheese/Veggie Quiche.
Since I never made one before I went with an ‘easy recipe’.
This was more a ‘Quiche for Dummies’ and was 21 pages long.
(when set up for printer, less if ads/pictures eliminated)
Lots of tips, variations, and explanations.
https://www.wellplated.com/spring-vegetable-quiche-puff-pastry/
Of course since I never made one before it was exactly what I needed.
The Teacher got home from work and declared it a success.
And who said real men don’t eat quiche.
Real men don’t eat quiche…Sorry.
Wanted to do something a bit different.
Got multiple Fridays left in Lent so there will be plenty of time to do ‘the Usual’.
And I actually had everything I needed, only slight modification/substitutions required.
Yeah! A brand new thread. It even has that new thread smell.
‘new thread smell’
It wasn’t me.
(Ok, it probably was.)
Luckily for me The Teacher lost most of her sense of smell due to the plague.
Gives me a type of ‘ollie ollie oxen free’.
I liked this Mock, got really good players each time I was ‘on the clock’.
Traded picks 11 and 109 for 14 and 45 with the Aints, and then pick 14 for 22 and 53 with Poop Eaters.
Sweat was taken just before 42 but McKinnley is a pretty decent replacement.
Was hoping for Spann-Ford to last until 228 bit he was taken 3 picks prior so I settled on a 2nd S. Dakota St player. Would like to see what those FCS Champs bring to the table.
22.
J.J. McCarthy QB Michigan
42.
McKinnley Jackson DT Texas A&M
45.
Cooper DeJean CB Iowa

yes.
The rest of the RB room was meh. Should be interesting to see what they do.
I would like him back.
As he seems a bit injury prone he should be cheap.
I would also get a another back up in case of more injury.
First
I’d rather be last in most things…let someone else take the bullets.
Laughing. Well that might be a plan…
Headed out to anniversary lunch and shopping. See ya later!
Bon Appetit.
Happy Anniversary, NVF!
Had a co-worker at the Prison who believe that it was a ‘race’ between him and his wife and whomever came in ‘first’ was the winner.
