Vikings news
More mocks and Kirk debate, its getting old.
QOTD
Ok, we’ve beat the horse to death talking about Kirk and Hunter, should they, shouldn’t they. Should the Vikings re-sign DJ Wonnum? He probably comes at a cost of around 10 mil aas at a minimum for a guy capable of 8-10 sacks per season.

Thread Guidelines
- Keep politics out. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down the rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
- Be cool to one another. Like it says above, just be civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone and that’s fine, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument not the poster.
- Keep the NSFW to a minimum. We don’t need anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
- All in all, be adults. Treat each other with respect and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. If you want to reach out about something feel free to ask. We want to have robust discussions, that’s why we’re here. Just be civil and cool to one another.
Just saw that the Bucs won’t use the franchise tag on Baker Mayfield, which would allow him to become a free agent if he wants to.
Jeeze, get a room.
Where did you see that? On KFEY’s webpage?
ESPN’s Seth Walder thinks the Vikings will be signing Russell Wilson as the starter, then drafting Oregon’s Bo Nix at No. 11 to be his backup for a year before presumably taking the reins.
Yawn..more click bait.
Might make a good backup to Cousins if Mullens gets hurt again.
Well in about 13 days we’ll be “in the know” in regards to Cousins return. Sometime between now and then, the Vikings will have to fish or cut bait as they say.
Can we all agree that Kirk will sign somewhere on a 2 or 3 year deal between 35 and 45 million a year? Is there anyone that thinks that thinks this will be outside those parameters?
No idea… might just retire.

Bahaha, this is just mental illness, how are these people allowed to be in any office or position of power when they dont have all of their mental capacities?
We have a Supreme Court Justice who cannot define what a man or woman is because “she is not a biologist”.
A Supreme Court judge.
Gotta love DEI
Yes, apparently it’s mandatory, or you’re a racist bigot.
Its scary is what it is. No wonder the rest of the planet think we’re a joke now.
^^Your new world man. You can have it.
Obviously a ‘Violent Assault’.
There is a great comment on this article I think sums it up perfectly
“A generation ago, announcing your victim status at a microaggression was very unlikely to result in an apology. Indeed, this degree of hypersensitivity was viewed as a weakness and an unenviable trait. But in today’s society, asserting one’s victimhood at even the slightest offense has become a social weapon. It is how people of weak character compete, how they establish their social relevance and identity at the expense of others.”
Read we’re in 27in dead cap money. Titans worst. Good, right?
Currently, I think the Vikings are ranked liked 14th ish in total cap space currently.
Not sure dead cap is all that relevant, other than it’s money paid to players not on the team.
Not keen on cap stuff, not the brightest bulb in the drawer. Why i come here.
I mean if you are paying someone who is not on the team it hurts cap space.
But if the rest of the roster is “cheaper” you can deal with it.
Well I think you know DE, it’s not money being paid to any players. The money has been paid. Dead Cap space is what the team pushed into the future, to exceed a cap limit in the present.
Yeah.
But if the remaining salaries under contract are low, the dead cap amount isn’t as big a deal.
True, and vice versa… the less dead cap, the more you can spend on actual players.
This is why KAM has to reset everything. Did you know we’re still paying Dalvin Cook? $3M this year. Davenport, Hunter, Cousins, and Harrison Smith, are all contributing to the big dead cap number.
Harrison Smith is still under contract and is not dead cap space currently.
Well, there’s a little more to it than that. Smith took a nearly $7 million pay cut to stay with the Vikings last season but his final two years weren’t modified at all. If they want to bring him back, another pay cut is likely to happen. However, Smith could choose to retire. If he does, that would save the Vikings the $11,384,116 in cap space they would garner by cutting him. It would also clear $22,015,884 off the books in 2025.
Cap hit: $19,215,882
Savings: $11,384,116
Dead cap: $7,831,766
It’s only dead cap if he isn’t on the team.
The dead cap number is the amount the Vikings absorb if he is cut.
Yes, but it’s detailed as part of the pay equation.
Well, every player has a dead cap hit.
It only becomes dead when he is no longer on the roster. Hence the name dead.
No, not every player has a dead cap hit.
Harrison has zero dead cap hit currently.
If he is cut, he will have a dead cap hit.
The whole “dead cap” idea is IF a player is cut by a certain date, the team takes on a dead cap hit for that player no longer on the team.
He has a dead cap hit if he is cut. That is the definition of a dead cap hit.
Correct. But he is NOT cut so therefore it is not dead cap currently.
Mahomes is listed as a $112,000,000 dead cap hit currently. Should this be a concern to the Chiefs?
Don’t need Smith. Cine is cheaper and ready to break out.
Vikings had a sit down with Jayden Daniels today.
Vikings named Josh McCown as their quarterbacks coach.

Hmmmm…
Looks like Kirk will get his new contract and the Vikings will draft Maye.
I wouldn’t have any problem with that, but KAM is already done with Cousins. He will not be on the Vikings this year.
I think Kirk will have a new deal next week. The only thing that will keep it from happening is I saw something saying he couldn’t sign a new deal until closer to the start of the league year for some reason.
His deal expires on the first day of the new season, which is 13 March. After that he is a free agent. The Vikings could have re-signed him anytime they wanted, and still can up to that day.
I read something about him not being able to sign a new deal because of some other language or some weird CBA language. Could have been internet garbage too. Deadlines bring deals though. The uncertainty of the rookies and the draft will cause Kwesi to give in. I just hope it doesn’t preclude them from drafting one. Kirk only has a couple years. Get a rookie in on a 4-5 year deal and let him learn if you have a chance at a good one.
I think that had to do with the expiration date of the contract, not allowing the Vikings to franchise tag Cousins. The team added void years to Cousins’ deal to help their salary cap in 2023. But the deal doesn’t void until after the deadline to use the tag has passed.
It was something about a player signing for a raise blah blah but I’m guessing it was an internet genius who didn’t know what they were talking about.
I heard the same kind of thing…strange.
Dresses nice and talks big.
Yeah, sounds like Kwesi despises Kirk:
I didn’t say he despises Cousins. I said he’s done with him. He knows he won’t sign a contract with fully guaranteed years and a no trade clause, and Cousins won’t sign a contract without them.
Yeah, that’s how I read we’ll come up with a solution too. We’ll come up with a solution means I’m not gonna try.
He has to keep up appearances of course. He has to be very selective with his language, and say things like “we need to meet in the middle” knowing full well there is no middle ground.
Or he is acting like he’s set to soften Kirk’s agent up a bit so they can actually meet in the middle a little.
Please tell me where the middle is… I’m curious.
Nice get their Bow !
I saw that.
Not even sure why this would be posted.
Is this funny or something?
Is that cultural appropriation?
The whitest guy on the planet getting a grill…you tell me.
And yet when he didn’t get a covid shot, he was a white Trumpster. And when he beat RGlll out in DC, he was called a lot worse.
Agreed, to be clear I was being a smart ass as far as the grill goes, still cringy. I supported his stance as well as Rodgers on the covid thing, still dislike both of them.
Thats so damn cringy. Also I love how his socials are firing up now that its combine week and a few weeks to start of new league year. Agent told him “It’s time..to pump our PR BS to the rubes!”
Like politicians in a election year.
You should see how ol’ “pus guts” Tester is milking his third generation Montana farmer appeal to the voters for senate re-election. Been in the back pocket of his party last six years voting with the whip 96% of the time but boy he has Montana values at heart. I just threw up in my mouth.
Phony self serving fucks.
Don’t be bashful, say what you think.
Ol Flat Top Phony. He’ll probably win too because people will fall for his crap and believe that Sheehy is the shady one.
And damn, he’s white, he’s conservative, and yes believes in family values and is religious.
The he-man Cousins hater club is in full voice today… laughing at their clamoring.
Indeed – shitting on people seems to be in vogue in our society, not just here. He=man…. hardly.
And people fall for it still which is amazing. Watch gas prices lower this summer into the fall and they will be like “LOOK HOW LOW GAS WAS UNDER US” then it will hike back up again after Jan.
I’d say it’ll go down in January cuz Trump will hand out drilling permission like candy but there is no way the Dems won’t do everything possible to ensure he doesn’t become president.
@no way. Kirko doesn’t do that@
Just..just a good stand up guy with amazing ability, he just, gosh he so handsome too…im just..whooo, excuse me im getting a case of the vapors just thinking about him.
Kiper says JJ not a top 10 qb, so that mean we get him?
Kiper? He is right so often, we need to listen to his… oh wait.
Most draftniks have him in the bottom of round 1 or early 2nd.
Hard for me to take Kiper seriously since he looks like…..
Good one DE.
Pro Football Network has him rated 14th overall.
Your results may vary.
https://www.profootballnetwork.com/mockdraft
Yeah.
Didn’t mean to imply that everyone sees JJ in that range.
I’m sure you can find him rated #1 or rated 3rd rounder on someone’s draft board.
The mocks/proposals get so GD old during stupid season.
I have seen some people mention here that they can always get JJ in the early 2nd and seem to believe that is the way it will go.
Everyone will have their own internal Big Board so things will play out differently then anyone/everyone thinks.
I have no doubt he is going to be drafted in the 1st round.
Agreed.
How early is the question.
Like most of the top tier QB’s in the draft, he may, or may not, end up being great.
Since we have have all the Gm’s here and QB pay is an issue – a question?
I read this when I was in Kentucky (on room internet) so not sure of source, but it’s not my original thinking. Goes like this.
Since the 12th game of the 2022 season and through his injury, Cousins was the top ranked QB in the NFC. And in. the entire NFL, he was ranked fifth behind, Mahomes Allen, Jackson and Burrows. Don’t know where 12th game came from, but think adjsting to new system. Also believe the. rating was done using PFF ratings (not my thing).
Don’t get wrapped in all the numbers and all, but that is pretty solid QB company.
So what do you pay a QB that is playing at that level?
Well Cousins did have the best O-line in the league in front of him… oh wait.
RG that’s up there in sacks every year.
An aging QB coming off of an Achillies who has struggled to win playoff games but statistically around the 5th best QB in the league?
40 mill per year for 3 years.
Don’t believe achilles will be a factor. Now WRT playoff games – got to win a lot of games to get to that point.
This assumes you have to ignore the team’s results with that level of production.
I’m not ignoring anything – this was as presented. Not my work.
As I said earlier stats may not get you wins, but unless you have a top tier defense, you aren’t winning without good production stats.
You insist that even though the QB plays great, he is the reason the team does not win. Spock would find this illogical…
Yet somehow you insist that if Kirk played this year, the team would have won 6 straight games and gotten the team into the playoffs.
Spock has a bone to pick with you.
You really have some shit spinning in your head DE… man. I’m laughing right now at this.
You said it.
You are the one who spins this stuff.
You just don’t own up to your own claims.
That’s not what I’m talking about. Of course you miss the point.
I see both sides of the issue.
No way would I take the risk of standing in the pocket with a highly trained and extremely powerful 300 pound defensive tackle bearing down on me without significant guaranteed money.
No way would I take the risk of forking over significant guaranteed money to a guy coming back from an Achilles tear. Recency bias.
This is KOC on the RB position… total blather:
“The way Ty (Chandler) finished the season was a real positive and going into year three will be a huge opportunity for him to continue his growth. I thought Alex (Mattison) did some good things in our system and ran hard. You see some of the individual performances, that maybe don’t always jump out on the stat sheet but it was a critical play here and there and then we have some young players in the room as well.
I think it’s always a position that I think, whether in free agency or the draft, you’re looking to continue to infuse talent and different skill sets into that room but I feel good about what those guys were able to do, and more importantly, hopefully, what we can build on from there specifically with Ty towards the end of the season.”
Translation: Ty is our RB2, Mattison is our RB3, we are still looking to either draft our RB1 or find someone in FA.
I like Ty, has very good vision. His blocking takes a beating.
They gonna bring back Akers?
KOC never mentioned Akers.
Depends on his recovery from injury and cost I suspect.

If Kirk were smart, he would take the best deal he can get in Minny.
He would be able to say he took a hometown discount.
Most fans just eat up the nice guy image.
And he would have very little stress for the money, compared to going to a new team.
Totally agree – best move.
Yes.
Id be down for a cheap two year deal, low guaranteed money, and all under the Vikings terms and with incentives and no “no trade clause”. Id be fine using him as a bridge QB which is all he is good for at this point. But we all now that wont happen.
He will probably make them promise to not draft a QB higher than round 5 as long as he is under contract.
God my blood would boil. Dudes one of the most insecure professional athletes iv ever seen, needs to be liked to play at slightly above average standards.
Mannion as his backup.
Literally, he refused to let them team bring in a QB that could possibly play better then him. Only his friends of choosing.
The reality is, there aren’t any QB’s available better than him.
You keep talking but all I hear is “sluuuuuuuurp, slurrrrrrrrrrp, slurrrrrrp” and then a subtle *pop*
Maybe you need to get your ears checked… because you’re reading.
Id be up for that. 2 year. He can phase himself out. Keep family rooted and close by. Having said that i’m sure he’s gone.
I approve this message.
Or one year of Mullins while JJ sits and learns.
Personally, I think Kirk is heading down the road of a return to Minnesota.
Not sure why. No trick knee or anything.
Just not convinced he has all of these teams clamouring to pay him his demands.
We’ll find out I guess.
I heard on KFAN over lunch and on Purple Daily – a lot of folks on the inside believe Kirk is already gone. This gives me hope.
They have to move off of him now or in two years..
I would prefer now.
Shoulda happened at the end of his first contract but, thats a moot point. Sooner than later
He already offered them a hometown discount and KAM said no… facts and all.
Were terms divulged? If so i missed it.
No.
But apparently, NLNVF is in the group text or something.
Tch, Tch… more personal attacks on me… laughing… you guys crack me up.
You are the one claiming you know his every decision.
How you know that, I have no idea.
I read articles, listen to interviews, etc. I have followed Cousins since he joined the Redskins in 2012. I have found him to be a very sincere, and genuine person, as well as a great player. I guess for that in your eyes, I’m the bad guy. Which is amusing.
And my theory of them being related via blood or marriage grows stronger by the day.
Which only highlights your lack of intellect.
Not when you keep proving me right, that’s on you bud.
You continue to post really loony comments. A fool and his folly.
Only by NLNVF and Kirk’s agent who is paid to lie and twist the narrative to benefit Kirk.
The commentary in the media was the Cousins camp made a below market offer, and were surprised when KAM rejected it.
the money was not the issue, 3 versus 2 year guarantee was difference. And I didn’t read that.
I know. But the narrative here is, Cousins is only about how many dollars he can collect, and nothing else. It’s a false narrative, of course.
People here don’t know shit.
read above crap. Pissy ass bullshit.
He is one of the most secure, squared away athletes (professional) I have even meant. He’s about as solid in his shoes person as you could meet.
So you are not to be believed. but all the ‘ kirk will only do this or kirk will only accept this’ is spot on – right.
Meant…? Did you mean “met”? Is that why you too are also on the .500 train? You met the guy?
Have you met the guy or not? You make all these pronouncements like you have. Have you?
I’m on no train 500 or. not. but should we not call BS around here when we hear it?
Never, have I ever claimed I met or know Kirk Cousins. The way you typed your last comment you made it sound like you personally know him.
“He is one of the most secure, squared away athletes (professional) I have even meant. He’s about as solid in his shoes person as you could meet.”
Because I do. And that’s why I called some of the stuff out as BS.
My stepdaughter called in mother hen mode, needed to get my granddaughter seen ASAP for respiratory issues and her regular doc is out until the middle of March. Appointment desk told her they had no openings.
I call the clinic switchboard, “Hey, which docs are working today?” Answer – We have no appointments available the rest of the week. (…) “So, again, which docs are working today?”
I laugh when schedulers wanna get snippy with a gouger.
Aren’t the schedulers answering based on what the gouger’s want them to say?
Well…technically I called the switchboard not the schedulers but they are probably one and the same, just different options on a touch tone phone. However, I did not ask “any appointments available today or this week” I just asked who was working today (so I could determine which one was gonna have me call in a favor in the order of who is most competent down).
If she hasn’t been taught that when a doc calls she needs to be more accommodating she will soon figure it out. No doc on the other end would step in and save her from my wrath.
Keep in mind in the service industry known as healthcare radiology is right there at the end of the line of services, and we/I bend over backwards to accommodate clinicians for all kinds of things on a now basis that could conceivably wait weeks to be evaluated.
ooooo.
I guess she will learn soon enough.
LOL
Well???? Did you get your granddaughter in and is she O.K.????
Yeah, I called my top choice at 11 and she got her in at noon. Got a two view chest at 1220 read by some yahoo as reactive airways disease and bronchial inflammation/no pneumonia and is started on a prednisone taper and gets pft’s in two weeks.
Perfect…..
Joint practices with Browns in August.
Are there masseuses at TCO?
I assume so.
Not too long ago having top notch facilities with free food and daycare was the key to winning. I would assume that includes happy endings.
I’ll also be having joint practice in August.
And every day before and after.
Classic!
I’ve always wondered about the long term effects.
I was a big stoner for about 7 years back in my yout.
My lungs can’t take that smoke.
The few times I have smoked it over the last 20 years, my lungs were in pain.
Not for me anymore.
I’m certain there are long term effects. I’m no longer a cigarette smoker (25 year smoker, quit November 2020) My understanding is that Willie Nelson now consumes all his weed via edibles because his lungs can’t handle the physical smoke anymore.
Some hot KOC on STEFF action!
Furnace went out last night…Now I am not the worlds most handy guy, in fact probably bottom 10%, but I knew what was wrong and I knew how to fix it, problem is I didn’t have the right tool, so it cost me 105 dollars.
Story of my life I know what to do but don’t have the right tool to get it done.
Fetzer valve
That sucks. I had a similar issue last winter. I knew what part was bad but it turned out to be a part that I couldn’t buy unless I was a licensed HVAC guy unless I ordered one online. Considering it was 20 below I didn’t have 4 days to wait. I blame Kirk.
Or Biden, both are equally blameable.
That would suck.
Guy was installing our vinyl flooring in hallway of addition yesterday. I assumed he would have all the tools needed but my wife called me at work and asked where the supplies had gone that we used to install the same flooring in the shouse. I spent the next fifteen minutes running through the possible locations of the bag of tools that we used specific to the flooring and finally was able to direct my wife to them out in the storage container.
That’s not cool, the guy doing the work should have his own tools.
I actually appreciate the work he does, when he works he gets down to business and I approve of the job he did laying down the floor. He started about 2 pm and worked until 9 pm (when I was standing there in my boxers and nightcap he sorta got the hint), and got the job done.
Poor guy at one point had a half dozen kids under the age of seven. Now he is divorced and I’m sure doesn’t have a pot to piss in. Also, I was perplexed as to how he got to our place as there was no vehicle there…and he said he had lost his license so was going to catch a ride with another construction worker.
Half dozen kids in under seven years – I’d be not just prematurely bald, I’d have white pubic hair and crazy eyes.
I assume you got pummeled with the same crap we got? I was walking the dog and my Apple Watch was blowing up, knew I was getting multiple phone calls from work but no point answering in a blustery 40 mph wind and sleet pasting my face. Turns out a server had gone down and I spent the evening reading $tudie$ in my office which worked out fine as he was working in the studio area of our shouse.
Re: yesterday’s salt discussion.
I wonder how you mine sea salt? I would think the pick axe would be ineffective in the water. Plus you would have to hold your breath a long time. I may need rethink my salt mining profession.
IIRC it has to do with drinking sea water and golden showers.
Watching sea water evaporate doesn’t seem like it’s much work.
Just boring.
Here you go
Obviously, you would use a water pick.
Vikings GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah on whether trading WR Justin Jefferson is an option: “That is not something that’s once crossed my mind. You got a blue[-chip] player, a blue[-chip] person, you try to keep as many of those as you can.”
So,,,,,,,JJ and KC both gone?
Was about to say something similar.
I believe Cousins is gone, and I also believe if someone offered a blockbuster trade deal to KAM for JJ, he would be gone too.
Correct, it hasn’t crossed his mind to go searching for that trade, and it hasn’t crossed his mind because no real blockbuster deal has come across his desk lol.
He said he isn’t looking for one.
I am agreeing with you…
That’s pretty direct and pretty clear they are not going to pursue a trade. Now Rick back in the day said they had “no intent” to trade Percy Harvin and then turned around and traded him for a good not great haul. I do not believe that will happen with JJ.
Doesn’t “it hasn’t crossed my mind” and “I have no intent” sound like the same thing?
So they don’t resign Kirk, trade JJ and then field a ‘shit’ team – who’s holding the hat?
Obviously the GM. I think KOC might say “we need players to win” but in the end, the GM has to balance the budget, and bring in the talent he can afford.
When the season starts and games are being played, fans care about the product on the field – no one cares about the ‘budget.’
Totally agree. I am being rational here though. Do I want Cousins and JJ back, out there scoring points? Absolutely. Do I think KAM will do everything under the sun to make that happen? No. KAM has his principles, and his budget.
again I’m a fan not a GM.
But I’ll give you a business perspective and this is a business.
Cutting your way to prosperity fails just about every time.
But cutting away the bad spending usually does.
Just take the government’s approach and spend more. Doesn’t matter where or how, just more. Don’t have it? Doesn’t matter. Add all the void years. It will either work and you’ll bring a SB to Minny or you’ll get fired and it’ll be somebody else’s problem.
Good to cut but you damn well better be cutting the right stuff.
The NFL has limitations.
It’s not run like a business when dealing with price caps.
I get it, but as a GM, why worry as much about long term cap implications when you’re most likely going to be out of a job anyway? If you are able to get a SB in the meantime by kicking the can down the road then all the better and then deal with the cap ramifications later.
Amen. this is the NFL – Nor for Long!
Personally, I think you go all in when your team is in the playoffs every year. Restructure, kick the can down the road, etc….
Look at the Saints.
Continual cap hell every year.
Fortunately, their division sucks.
And if you don’t get the team in the playoffs then you don’t get a chance to go all in. You just build the foundation for the next GM to go all in. I’m just looking at it from a GM standpoint instead of the fan standpoint. Fans have a long term vested interest in the team. A GM typically doesn’t.
Don’t disagree. But KAM is not a business major. He’s not a football guy. He’s a financial manager.
So explain this to me. Jj is an A Plus player and Kirk was playing like an A minus last year.
What was Ingtam, Bradbury playing like. What about Smith and some of those DB’s that can’t bat the ball away. And then there’s RB’s that can’t run.
Seems like we have plenty of ‘real’ wasted money out there to go after.
If you pay Kirk and JJ, that’s like $75 million in cap between 2 players.
You plan on just getting cheap projects at other positions?
Correct
Signing bonuses and void years if the contract is less than 5 years. I’d structure a JJ deal like Mahomes with roster bonuses ideally so cap space can be created whenever you want in the future. Give Kirk a 2 year deal with 1 or two void years and trade up with whatever you have to to get the rookie QB you like the best in the draft this year.
Good plan – then let’s start cutting some. of the dead wood.
Works for me as long as you can replace that talent. Still need to field a team. Mattison can go, might be time to have the talk with Harry, and if JJ gets an extension, I would explore trades for Hock.
I don’t exactly know how to do this but might go like this.
Offense – keep Hock and roll with our passing game, It’s good. Maybe KOC can figure something out so we can atleast run some screens.
Defense – draft and use whatever money we have to get some FA help.
Would love to run the ball, bur screw it, go with what we have.
I don’t know if Hock is really worth the price you’re paying though. I just threw him out as a potential place to gain some cap space. Is the drop off in play and significance to the game to a likely replacement going to be that large at that position? I don’t think it really would be compared to the difference in price.
Since we can’t run the ball, or screens either, we need good production out of the TE position. If not Hock, we need someone fairly good.
Yeah, I just think TE is a lot of scheme or more scheme than WR for example and the dropoff is less than the dropoff in compensation so it may be an area to look at. The ACL might be a good incentive to trade him as well but would likely keep another team from trading for him. Just spit balling other options to gain cap space if needed.
I understand that – to a point – but it ain’t like the rest of the lot is exactly carrying their weight.
Again, I don’t disagree. The two best players on the team are Cousins and JJ. Two most expensive too. KAM said something about player value vs cost or something to that effect in his presser today. He moved past that rather quickly, but if you don’t think the bottom line isn’t money, you’re thinking wrong.
“Vikings GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah says the franchise is in a “great place” with Kirk Cousins. He says “we have our interests” and “he has his,” and the sides will see if they can meet in the middle. Reiterates that he thinks the Vikings can win a Super Bowl with Cousins.”
Of course the Vikings can win a Superbowl with Cousins, he’s a very good QB… can they win one with Cousins wanting a guaranteed contract that is basically on par with what his numbers reflect… we have 6 years of data that show the Vikings will win 1 playoff game in the next 6 years with that situation…
Wow… total faulty logic there Edge… Cousins isn’t the reason the Vikings aren’t winning Super Bowls. You just completely intoned he is.
We have six years of data that shows Cousins is the most productive, and competent QB in Vikings history. That’s what we have.
Lol, I never said he was the reason. Also he is very productive and very competent but him getting his fair market value… what’s the results over 6 years? 1 playoff win.
Again… you intone the lack of wins is Cousins fault. This ipso facto argument holds no water. Cousins plays at a high level, and the passing game produces at a high level, every year.
His market value is based on his ability to play the position and produce.
Do you suppose Zim versus KOC make any difference in your metric?
Zimmer won more playoff games with Kirk that KOC has.
Right? haha, that’s why I said OK from JRs point then it went from 1 win to 0 haha.
Oh true, in that case NO playoff wins?
Do you and Bow pay attention to analysts around the NFL? Here’s a take from around the league – Cousins play took a step up under his first year under KOC, and just as many have said it took another step up last year before injury – best of his life.
Now that doesn’t speak to how the entire team responded to entire team, just QB play. Maybe there’s other factors involved for playoffs.
Or maybe we should have stuck with Zim.
I heard that Bow character is just a sarcastic smart ass.
Don’t believe everything you hear. Didn’t realize there was so much Zim love.
First ballot coach I guess.
He ran his course but I did like him his first few years. His interviews were usually pretty fun, especially when somebody brought up PFF.
I pay attention and I could tell it did by watching… I just don’t think things are mutually exclusive or have to be black and white. It is possible that both things are true. Cousins is a very good QB, who deserves his pay he is asking while it has shown to be true FOR WHATEVER REASON that Cousins getting his due payment in Minnesota has not equated to playoff success.
Oh I agree – it’s not black/white. t here’s more than few reasons we aren’t getting playoff wins. And in my book, Kirk and JJ’s play is pretty low on the list.
I didn’t say anything about JJ… I also didn’t say it was Kirk’s fault. Listen I’ve used this analogy before. Kirk is like a really good set of wheels on the wrong car. For whatever reason he doesn’t get the job done with the Vikings. Does that mean it’s his fault or does that mean those wheels are bad? No! But after 6 years it’s time to try different wheels and to me Kirk at a team friendly cost IS a different set of wheels. I am not against Kirk, I am against Kirk at basically his actual value on the Vikings. IT. HASN’T. WORKED!
Didn’t work in DC either.
You sensing a pattern?
or Michigan State
So you know the Skins do you. Interesting.
My overall point was about letting Kirk and JJ go (although you only said Kirk).
I just don’t buy the strawman as presented. Off my head, what if it’s not the wheels?
Now, no one knows for sure, but I believe if Kirk and JJ hadn’t gotten hurt, we would have beaten Detroit for the division. But who knows.
It’s not a Strawman to say, “Kirk with the Vikings being paid at his market value has only netted the Vikings 1 playoff win.” That is just a fact. My take is I am wanting to try something else, that is my opinion. Your opinion is you want him back. Fine, we can have different opinions but what I am saying about Kirk’s playoff outcomes with the Vikings is just a friggin fact.
Of course it is a fact. But it is also a fact they haven’t won an NFC championship with Smith as a safety. the real point might be the actual correlation – like paying Kirk at market. No doubt probably some – but how much.
That said, I only want Kirk back, at the right price.
And what other ‘friggin fsacts’ you want to talk about. We also haven’t won a playoff game since I put a new firepit in backyard. The world’s full of friggin facts.
It’s not a fact…
So you mean to say the Vikings have won more than 1 playoff game since Kirk became the QB. You can argue whether it is causal or coincidental but it is still reality.
It’s a false equivalency as I explained.
That’s what known as a “false equivalency” not a fact Edge.
It’s like saying, the Vikings haven’t been to a Super Bowl since they started playing in a dome. Therefore playing in a dome “hasn’t worked”.
Question for the car folks out there… looking at getting rid of, trading my wife’s 2015 Chevy Cruz. Has roughly 100K miles. Just need something for in town, and looking for small truck or SUV. My car is a 2022 Subaru Legacy, love it. That’s our long travel car, great gas mileage etc… just want something a little bigger so I don’t have to borrow someone’s truck every damn time I need one. Her car has a salvage title due to hail. Came across a 2011 Nissan Frontier SV, they are only asking 14K (it’s more than I wanted to spend) but it’s only got 69 thousand miles… found out it too has a salvage title. The dealership has a great reputation and reviews and I’ve been told they don’t ever do any salvages due to water, or structural issues only cosmetic and of course that could always be something they say but I’m inclined to believe them with the good reviews and reputations… Thoughts?
If you haven’t done so yet, run the VIN number to get the history on it.
Personally, I’m not a fan of salvage title vehicles.
I did, but it was a free version all it said is that it did have a salvage title on it.
Gotcha.
Worth the $40 for a car fax?
Any reputable dealership runs the carfax before acquiring the vehicle, at least here in the cities, and shares that information with any prospective buyer.
Yep.They should.
Yeah I will for sure ask. I always like asking the person I am working with a bunch of questions first, then ask and make sure they are being up front lol.
My mom sold cars and then was a service manager for many years… there are ways to cheat Carfax… I forgot how she explained it but they aren’t then end all. But they are nice lol.
I’m sure there are, but I think they are mostly accurate.
We were buying a used Ford Edge years back and the car fax came back with 2 accidents. both were rear fender benders. We still bought the car.
Salvage title is totally different for me anyway.
Do you have choices? Just saying, why buy a potential problem if you don’t have to.
We don’t HAVE to get rid of her car, this truck just kind of hit all the boxes of what I was looking for except that damn salvage title.
That’s good really – no rush, so you have time to be selective. Most folks are rushed and OMG if I pass on this I’ll never find a good deal, etc.
Right? We are OK if we keep driving her car until the wheels fall off… But it’s needing new tires, and it’s shit to drive in winter weather. At least if I have a truck/SUV and she can start driving the Subaru it’d be much safer winter driving.
Just saying you seem to have time to make a well informed decision. Most folks rush and don’t do due diligence or ‘fall in love’ with a car.
Agreed, just did KBB dive into what the car should cost from a dealer and then KBB suggests that you should take 20-40% off that price for salvage title… it’s quite a bit lower, see what he says lol.
Tell the dealer to show you the carfax, the salvage should be on there.
Traded in my 2011 F-150 last week with 107K miles for $13K. Today it is listed on the local Ford dealer website for $19,800.
Daaaamn, I should have hit you up and bought it from ya! lol
Wendy’s going to a surge model pricing.
When it’s busy, you pay more than you would when it’s not busy.
Not sure this works.
Either all the fast food places do it or none do it, I can’t see people thinking “hey its really busy at Wendy’s and I have to pay more, think I’ll pass on Burger King and go pay more.”
Well there better be times you can get a Burger for next to nothing because it’s super slow too!
Maybe the surges slow down? Folks just stop coming in when the prices are higher?
Glad I am retired, can go when I want.
Good way to drive away customers.
Ho ho ho good luck.
Yeah. My thoughts exactly.
My guess is it is just a trial balloon to see what kind of push back they get.
I think this sleuth in a Youtube Comment just disclosed NLNVF’s side hustle.
Here’s the quote (that I copied and pasted, not afraid to ADMIT THAT)
“Said it before, will say it again: Kirk’s Stans are mostly social media peons paid by his agent to balance out whatever true Vikings fans have to say about Kirk. They do whatever is necessary to make Kirk look good on social media. I spent enough time with player agents to know how it works. Appearance in social media is part of the business. And I’m not talking about bots, I’m talking about social media agencies with employees doing the labor based on scripts / storylines they get. And yes, there are probably a few true Cousins lovers out there, and they actually (and literally) L.O.V.E. Kirk, so they will do, say and write everything for him.”
You really have issues KFEY… showing the whole world right here your KDS…
Thank you for not copying and pasting that response.
Thank you for showing everyone here, you just have a personal issue… and can’t be rational.
Lol I have no issue, this whole form is entertainment for me on week days when I have down time at work. I dont live here 24/7 or on the weekends like you do because I have actual friends and shit to do. Calling you on your BS and watching your lunatic responses speak for themselves brings me Joy. Much like it will when Kirk is gone and you wont have any more steam left in the tank because you care more about the name on the back of the jersey rather than the name on the front.
At that point he will either follow Kirk to a new team or go on every day about how much better the Vikings would be with Kirk. When JJ leads the Vikings to a SB victory NLNVF will be here saying that with Kirk they would have won by 20 instead of 10.
Listen to you…
Well son of a bitch – who would have known!
NLV is a ‘social media peon paid by. his (cousins) agent.’ And he’s ‘scripted’ too.
NLV – what do you do with all the money?
I give it to charity, like any good person would.
Damn I was hoping you were like a Special Agent that FKEY suggests and drive around in an Austin Martin and drink your martinis shaken.
Laughing… my monicker says it all.
Golf and vacation at the Four Seasons in the middle east.
I can’t find it now, but I saw a report this morning that said Sean Payton was yelling at Russ on the sidelines last year to get Wilson to fight back so they could void his contract. If true, Sean Payton is still as big of a POS as I thought. I still don’t know how they move on from him with the dead hit they would have to take, but if there’s any truth to this I don’t know how he stays. I would not redo my contract if I were Russ though. F butthole mouth.
On March 17th, another $37 million becomes fully guaranteed for 2025.
So it costs them more to keep him than to cut him.
$85 million dead hit to cut him prior to that. No way you can run a team like that.
He gets paid whether he is in the building or not in the building.
If they want to save future money, they will cut him.
I’m not sure what they will do.
They’ve got old friend George Paton to thank for that contract.
Curious how long he’ll get to manage the donkeys after this disaster. Also curious in which role Paton will be welcomed back by the Vikings once the donkeys fire him.
Wow. I dislike Wilson a ton. But I dislike Payton even more. What a trash human.
Yeah, I do not like either of those guys, but payton is the more despicable.
Bow, not sure I understand how a team could void a contract for “fighting back” when a coach yells at you? I mean, OK, if Wilson physically struck the coach, I guess that would be “grounds for dismissal”. But can a team vacate a guaranteed contract like that?
Honestly, dunno. I think lawyers would be involved.
I think it would have had something to do with “conduct detrimental to the team” and a clause in his contract that voids guarantees for said conduct.
Maybe… dunno if the players association would accept clauses like that, but possibly. Can you void a $250M contract because a player acts out on the sidelines on one occasion? Seems doubtful to me… but I’m no lawyer.
Could have been internet BS, but I wouldn’t put it past that guy. Some of the other stories about them trying to get Russ to waive his injury guarantees are a little shady as well.
Yes, they were definitely trying to backtrack on the contract. They wanted him to sign away the injury clause in his contract, which no player is going to do. The Bronco’s got worked by the SeaHawks big time in the RW trade. That’s the bottom line. Now they want Wilson to change the terms of employment.
Buyers remorse…
I still refuse to watch that Kevin James movie about Sean Payton haha! Screw that guy!
Any thoughts on changes to the Kickoff Rules?
NFL exec Troy Vincent suggests kickoff rule change proposal coming, won’t let it become ‘ceremonial play’ | Fox News
I’m a traditionalist on this. I like a kickoff to start games, after scores, etc.
I need to watch it during the upcoming UFL season, and look at the pros/cons. I know the XFL did it last year, but I missed all of that season.
Completely stupid.
I can’t read it, but if it limits them even more there is even less reason for Nwangu to be on the roster.
Is this better?
NFL Rules Committee Considering XFL Kickoff Format – ESPN 98.1 FM – 850 AM WRUF
Yeah I could read that, thanks. As far as the rule, I’m fine with it, but I don’t like a touchback being placed at the 35, that’s dumb.
Agree… NFL is dorking the game up left and right. Pretty soon it will be flag football, just like the “pro bowl”.
It’s just changing the game for the sake of changing the game at this point.
But im old.
There we go, just make it a competitive play, some action FFS, some excitement.
My only change, to the suggested rule, is kick from the 25 yard line, and the only way there is a touchback is if the ball goes out of the end zone. No fair catch would be needed.
Won’t let me read it without giving e-mail… what’s the change? I hope they make it more of an actual play that happens lol.
a couple of thoughts that won’t work the black/white folks.
Qb stats aren’t wins – true. But unless you have a top tier defense, you better have good production stats if you want to win.
KOC and KAM can want KC back, and KC can want to retire as a Viking ( not all money) and both can be true and it still does not get worked out.
Yep
“black/white folks”
Racist comment, obviously.
What about asians or Indians, or mexicans?
They don’t watch football – American football.
Let’s not forget about the Eskimos here. Sorry, Inuit.
Universal health care hard at work again.
Mao would be proud.
Thoughtful of them to ‘kill the problem’ to make it go away.
Obama and the Dem’s tried hard to get “single payer” health insurance done in this country. NEVER let the Government control your healthcare.
That sounds like something from the onion
Or the Babylon Bee
Yeah that too, but its just absurd, “hey sorry we paralyzed you, how about we just kill you now?”
That’s how dangerous these people are.
And people like Lifer and others, deny this happens and continue to trust these people.
Pretty delusional.
I am not buying it, but the world is a crazy place.
Thanks for being in charge around here Ben.
Without you, we couldn’t act like idiots.
You misspelled geniusi.
No problem, though I’m not sure what will happen come June, my wife deploys and I will be alone with 2 and 5 year olds so my availability will be limited.
That will be tough. Deployments are always hard on families. Hope it all goes well for you, kids and wife.
Last my oldest was around 2 and we managed pretty well, it will be different this time with 2 kids though so we’ll see how it goes.
Do you have family around to help a little at least?
Yeah, her sister and her parents. They are about 35 mins and 55 mins away but her mom can help a lot in the summer as she’s a teacher and her dad is retired.
Hopefully things will calm down for me and I can start being more reliable to help get these posted and knock some heads when needed.
Hopefully she is not headed into a trouble spot.
Guantanamo Bay, so not bad, at first it was going to be over in the middle east somewhere I’d never heard of. It sounds like you’re not allowed to go out into Cuba so apparently she will not be bringing me any cigars.
Yep, she’ll have to stay inside the American fenced-in perimeter. Nice ocean views, but it is a small area.
Yeah, sounds like not much to do.
True.
Good movie.
‘Should we or should we not FOLLOW THE ADVICE OF THE GALACTICALLY STUPID?!?….’
Not terrible.
I assume she can find someone to get you cigars.
If all you need is someone to post the daily thread, I would volunteer my services.
I’ll run it up the flagpole
Good morning Skolbros!
Here’s my 8 discussion for the day. Image sums up Kirk to a tee. Look at all those neat and precious stats on the bottom right against one of the worst Ds in the league last year. He did good right? Look, were in the Red Zone , need a TD to win annnnnnd…he doesnt know what play to run and its too loud for him at HOME? And he ends it with an INT? Yeah, nope, thats not championship material folks. Atlanta…COME ON DOWN!
Nice cherry pick (one play), and really a misrepresentation of what happened. Note you never mention the 4th and 6 play earlier in the game, where Cousins threw a 35 yard TD to Osborn… to pull the team within 4 points (21-17) and then the 50 yard TD to JJ to give the Vikings the lead in the 4th quarter… huh?
It’s 4th and 5, the play call was shit getting in and getting the offense aligned. Hockenson was heavily covered at the goal line, but Cousins still ripped it into him, and the ball bounced off Hock’s hands, then a defenders hands, and ultimately into the hands of another defender in the end zone. Double deflection at the goal line.
Easily could have been a game winning TD.
You need to stop misrepresenting reality to yourself, and everyone else.
Screen shot doesn’t even match the narrative. This play is a 4th and 5 and Cousins hits Hock for a first down.
Then what happens?
Believe a poster here, BSF, was in the end zone and posted his picture of a pass that hit Hock in the hands that was then bobbled up in air and intercepted.
Rest is history.
I described what happened Ben. There were several “goofy” plays in this game though. The Vikings first play from scrimmage of the game, Cousins hit Hock over the middle, and he caught the ball, then the Chargers hit him, and he fumbled it away. Chargers scored a TD then to take the lead. Late in the game, after the Vikings had wrestled the lead back, Evans was covering a Chargers receiver at the 5 yard line and leapt up to intercept Herberts pass. Unfortunately the ball went right through Evans hands, and bounced off his helmet into the receivers hands, who then strolled into the end zone for a TD.
As usual, KFEY leaves all context out of the discussion, to present a very bad representation of not only what happened on the play, but what happened in the entire game. All to discredit Cousins of course.
Yeah I honestly couldn’t remember exactly what happened, just remember that Brandon Staley handed the Vikings the win when they went for it on 4th and 1 up by 4 points at around their own 20 yard line. I knew the Vikings screwed it up somehow.
Yes, that was a great play by Phillips… got across the line of scrimmage, and stuffed the runner. Hock had both hands on the ball on that 4th down play. It was very close.
games sometimes come down to a play – Hock catches it, we win. Drops it, we lose.
KFEY DumDum
Kirk has never won anything other than the contract sweepstakes and never will.
The Vikings have never won the Super Bowl… does that mean they are losers? No. You have a skewed view of Cousins Bow. We get it.
They are not winners so therefore, yes, until something changes they are losers. The best QBs have won at some level. Maybe not National Championships but at least Conference Championships and HS Championships. Winners win.
Teams win…
Teams need a leader that makes sure the mission is accomplished and that doesn’t push blame to the team.
Teams have 53 guys, a head coach, OC, DC, and dozens of assistants. They have defensive leaders, offensive leaders, kickers, punters, etc who all contribute to the game.
The government has thousands of agents, department heads, cabinet members, etc. Therefore the problems in this country are not Joe’s fault. The team is failing, not Joe.
Joe is failing in his role… let’s not muddy the waters here.
He’s just failing because the team around him isn’t good enough.
No… he personally is failing in his job.
Nah, I’m convinced now that it’s the players around him and we as a team just need to commit to him for another 4 years.
You’re twisting a narrative of course… let’s get down to brass tacks. Cousins is excellent in his job, and Biden is failing at his.
Two ends of the spectrum.
Really!!! Joe is failing. Buttigett is failing. Mahorkis is failing. Austin is failing. The AG is failing. You want more. Don’t really want to go thru all the cabinet menbers.
Kirk has faults but don’t believe he pushes blame on others
He doesn’t but his bucket carriers do. I think he’s very good. He’s just not good enough.
Laughing…
Never has JR. Always addresses his play and no one else’s.
Not the vikings, at least not the super bowl
@not his fault. coach must hold his hand better. you can’t expect the QB to run a two minute drill without help@
Another bullshit comment from the gallery… as usual.
Everyone has a narrative that needs support.
Well, those were the comments from you and others.
No, you just push a narrative that doesn’t hold water.
No Kirk argument for me today. Just have to wait and see what the brain trust decides to do about everything.
KAM and KOC scheduled to meet with reporters at the combine today and do a presser around noon. Can’t wait to hear the blather that comes out of their mouths regarding Cousins. “We like Kirk, but we need flexibility. We’re making our best effort to work this out”.
“Blather”! They would fit right in here.
This will likely end up the truest comment of the day.
No different from the blather coming out of Kirks mouth.
“I want to retire a Viking. “It’s not about the money”
Both sides do it.
He told the truth. You can’t handle the truth.
Well, I think Kwesi and Kevin do want Kirk to stay in Minnesota.
I would agree, but as we have discussed, it’s not as much much about the dollars, as it is the structure. KAM isn’t signing fully guaranteed contracts with no trade clauses. You know, the things that would ensure Cousins could retire a Viking? It’s business, and KAM is taking another route regardless of what he thinks of Cousins as a player.
Which means, Kirk will say whatever he wants to maximize his position and Kwesi/Kev will say what they want to maximize their postion.
It’s called negotiations.
Both sides speak public BS to benefit themselves.
Cousins has never once misrepresented his position.
How do you know?
They talked about it at Thanksgiving dinner.
I pay attention…
At this point, your stance on Kirk is starting to be in the “too good to be true” category.
He’s not perfect.
And is out for the most money he can get.
Laughing… so says the Cousins detractor…
Generally speaking Kirk just doesn’t say his position but when he does he seems genuine about it. Does he want to retire a Viking? That is likely his preference on his terms.
Yes… but how does he guarantee he retires a Viking? By giving the GM ownership of all his rights? That’s silly. Sign a contract that allows the GM to trade him at will? No.
There has to be some level of rational thought here. Cousins wants to stay with the Vikings, but signing a contract that allows the GM to do whatever he wants with him, isn’t a sound methodology.
They will speak many words but say absolutely nothing.
Yes, would you like vegetable soup or a word salad with that.
Correct.
But every team will do that.
Yeah, I think Rick was the best I’ve ever heard, he would also outright lie.
Giants were very open and direct about keeping Daniel Jones. No mincing of words from their GM.
LOL.
He is under contract for $36 million dollars this year.
Kirk is a free agent.
You do know the difference right?
The conversation was about his future and the draft… you might want to try and keep up.
Well, the Giants future is tied to Jones.
He is under contract.
They publically can’t say they are moving off Jones in 2025 at this point.
Try to keep up.
They absolutely could, they could trade Jones, and make a move in the draft for a top tier QB.
Try and keep up.

Love the song selection.
QotD, I say sure, sign wonnum. Not my money.
I’m guessing Hunter walks, they re-sign Wonnum, draft a guy, and sign a FA who won’t cost 25+ mil like Hunter.
The dead savings for re-signing make me lean towards Hunter sticking around, especially with the unexpected big cap jump.
I like the Scorpions cover of Ruby Tuesday quite a bit.
I like the Awolnation, Brandon Boyd from Incubus, and Portugal. the man cover of The Scorpions Winds Of Change

Yep, another classic! Great song.
I’m starting to think there may be a theme going on here…
