Minnesota Vikings Discussion Topic of the Day

Anyone know how much cap space the Vikings have left? Also, there can only be one logical reason the Vikings traded for the #23 pick right?

  • Keep politics out. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down the rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
  • Be cool to one another. Like it says above, just be civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone and that’s fine, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument not the poster.
  • Keep the NSFW to a minimum. We don’t need anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
  • All in all, be adults. Treat each other with respect and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. Current WR depth:

Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, Jalen Nailor, N’Keal Harry, Brandon Powell, Trishton Jackson, Trent Sherfield, Daylen Baldwin, Malik Knowles, Thayer Thomas

Does Harry or Nailor get to step into WR3? I thought Nailor was doing well in training camp until he got hurt.

I played the best round of golf today, and the course was apparently set up for a tournament, so every single pin was tucked in the toughest position possible. I played with a couple of young guys who were great. I hit the shit out of my driver (for me) hit my irons great, and even hit my fairway woods great. Putted well too. Shot 39-40 for a nice 79 with the course set up to play its hardest.

Author was discussing the Vikings potentially adding Ex Bill CB CB Tre’Davious White.

“As long as his price isn’t one that doesn’t take into account all of the risk factors that come along with potentially signing him, he makes a plehtora of sense for the Vikings and what they need on that side of the ball, in the defensive backfield particularly.”

I don’t think the trainer counts as a front office representative. I don’t think this is part of the NFL rule set here. Players talking to trainers or other players, is pretty normal.

Either way, this is just more KDS.

Wrong.

(b) NFL Players. No club, nor any person employed by or otherwise affiliated with a club, is permitted to tamper with a player who is under contract to or whose exclusive negotiating rights are held by another club.

(1) Two-Day Negotiating Period. Notwithstanding the foregoing, during the period that begins two calendar days prior to the expiration of NFL Player Contracts (the “Two-Day Negotiating Period”), clubs are permitted to contact the certified agents of players who will be Unrestricted Free Agents at the end of the current League Year and enter into contract negotiations with them. A contract, however, cannot be executed with a new club, or submitted to the League office, until after the beginning of the new League Year. During this two-day period, a prospective Unrestricted Free Agent cannot visit a club (other than his current club) at its permanent facility or at any other location, and no direct contact is permitted between the player and any employee or representative of a club (other than his current club).

You clearly don’t even know what tampering is. Talking about fitness with a trainer isn’t tampering. Talking football with a player isn’t tampering. Tampering is when an organization discusses contract terms before the league season or the legal tampering starts. I can’t see anything, anywhere, that this has occurred.

One ‘Experts’ thoughts on a Viking trade up for a QBOTF. I guess his guess is as good as any of our guesses.

‘If the Vikings trade picks 11 (358) and 23 (245) for picks 4 (491), 66 (76) and 104 (33), it would be 603 points for 602 points which is fair per the Rich Hill trade chart but not realistic, mainly due to the quarterback tax.
The likely move would look something like 11 (358) 23 (245) and 129 (18) for pick 4 (491).’

That’s an ugly situation, and really, I could see it blowing up into violence. People get stirred up and then they act out.

The city is going to have to find a way to ensure the system can’t be manipulated and multiple tee times can’t sold to a single individual or something.

I suspect that it will start happening in other locations as people/corps find out it is a ‘money maker’.
It happens at concerts/shows where most of the front/good seats are all taken by a business and sold on the ‘secondary market for a large mark up.

Yeah, this could be what the brokers do too though. Buy a season pass, and book everything 14 days ahead of time. I don’t have a solution to this.

Surly Viking

The course could stop allowing aftermarket tee times. It is not that expensive for even a muni course to have their own mobile app, and not allow transfers. users must prepay, and you can limit the number of tee times one user can purchase. That will not stop strawman purchases, but it will make it harder for the broker to corner the market.

From a pure Quarterbacking skills perspective, Fields is not very good. Like many of today’s younger QB’s, he makes up for that with his athleticism. He has a strong arm, and of course can beat you with his legs. But when it comes to processing and progressions, he is quite average to below average.

Believe it or not, if KOC can get Darnold to get his footwork right, and his head right, he has the arm talent to do well. Sometimes Darnold doesn’t trust what he’s seeing, and he’s indecisive. In addition, getting his drops timed up right to the routes has also been a problem for him. That’s when “bad” Darnold comes out.

Yeah… we all do. I’m hoping/expecting the defense to be very good this year, and I also think Jones is going to run the ball with a vengeance. Darnold has never thrown more than 19 TD’s in a season. Cousins has never thrown fewer than 25 TD-s in a season as a starter except for this year, when he was on pace for 38 TD’s. We need Darnold to be the best version of himself on a football field, he’s ever been. A really good defense and a really good running game is going to be vital if the Vikings are going to contend this year IMO.

He’ll get lots of work in camp and preseason, i, sure. Who you like with JJ, Maye and Daniels?

I’ve watched some games recently with Maye and JJ, but not Daniels. Maye is NOT an NFL ready QB by a long stretch. I have no idea why he’s rated so high. He’s just a big guy, and he has a big arm. That’s it. No processing at the NFL level at all. I like JJ, but he too is not ready to excel at the NFL level yet. He shows much more processing though. I think he will eventually do well.

He was on the block, hit then went after him. Not Rickies style at all.

No, it isn’t. I went and looked it up on the internet. Rickies caddie asked the guy to silence his phone, and apparently the same guy had done this on previous holes. Rickie wasn’t playing well, and obviously got fed up with this same guy repeatedly making noises in his backswing.

I’m sure you all saw this, but Mike Greenberg thinks the Falcons have the opportunity to be a Super Bowl contender with Cousins under center.

Might be a reach, but Cousins makes a Division title achievable at a minimum.

Once you get to the dance all things are possible.
Again, the definition of ‘Contender’ is the key.

It’s a reach.
Viking thought they were just a QB away after 2017.

Agreed. The division is for ATL to lose.
I think that Tampa Bay could be decent enough to compete, but ATL should win the division.

What if Vikes give their #23 or #11 (begrudgingly) and Darnold to the Chargers. Chargers take JJ who Harbaugh has wanted all along. JJ learns under Darnold for a year. It seems Herbert could be a good fit for the Vikes. He’s big and had a 4.01 GPA— which is at the very least intriguing regarding KOC’s expectations. Or is it pretty much suspected Vikes are rolling the dice on new talent?

#11 + # 23 + Darnold for Herbert??
To steep IMHO

Maybe #11 (or 23 if we could swing that) + Darnold I would consider. SD getting JJ (trading up) would be their problem.

Aside from Mahomes, who is unique, these high priced qb’s are having a hard time getting talent around them.

As cool as it would be to get Herbert, he is untradeable right now. I think the Chargers would take like 100 million in dead cap hit.

It has been a busy Saturday morning already. My wife’s sister-in-law passed away last night so I have been on the phone with calls and texts almost nonstop. Fortunately my wife was out near them visiting our oldest and his family so she was able to go down and see her one last time and to help grieve with her brother. She was only about 53 years old. The two oldest kids are out of the house, but they have 3 adopted children that range from about 8 to 14 years old. Cancer sucks.

The 3 adopted kids are her nephews and niece, so it’s already in the family. My wife’s brother has a good support system out there. One of his other sisters lives only about a mile away, some of his wife’s family live nearby and they have a very supportive church family. It is still going to be rough for a while.

the ages of those children left behind are heartbreaking.

It was fast. We saw her around Christmas time and she was having some issues, but was pretty much fully functional. When they sent her home on Friday the 8th, she was fully mobile. Half a week later she was unresponsive and a few days later gone. I’ll keep saying it, cancer sucks.

I suspect our P was told to tone down his punts for better coverage.
Best/Most Logical reason why his distance dropped between year 1 and 2.

Wright still managed 48.9 yard avg, good for 10th in the league.
