As you already know, long-time Vikings QB Kirk Cousins went to the Falcons. I think they should try to get JJ McCarthy, as the vikings have the picks they need to trade up, or maybe he’ll be avalible when we have our pick at #11. There are a few QB’s who are considered better then McCarthy, like Caleb Williams, who will be selected before McCarthy. This makes McCarthy a logical choice.
He had very few interceptions in college, and his completion percentage increased each year. He threw 22 TDs in 2022 and again in 2023, while his comp/att per year was 208/322 in 2022 and 240/332 in 2023. Stats courtesy of sports-reference.com.
I watched the chanpionship game, and I think he played better than Nick Mullens but then again that was college. He had some great passes and made some clutch plays to help his team get the win. I’d like to see the Vikings go after McCarthy in the draft, I think he can be the QB of the future, and it would be cool to see JJ throwing to JJ. We’ll see in less than a month!,
I also think it would be nice to see JJ throw to JJ. Whatever happens, I will always enjoy watching the Vikings. Some days more than others.
Nice job Eli. Very well thought out and written. I think the Vikings will see a decline in QB play in 2024, just because there isn’t a way ahead that can immediately replace a QB like Cousins. I watched McCarthy play, and my assessment is he will be a good NFL QB. If the Vikings select him in the draft, he will eventually be a sound, competent player. Darnold has a lot of talent, but to date, he’s never lived up to his hype. Folks think playing here with KOC will allow him to suddenly break out. I am hopeful that happens, but I have my doubts. KOC’s scheme puts a lot on the QB’s processing ability, and accuracy. So far, Darnold has never shown a lot of either. We’ll keep our fingers crossed though.
JJ is a good choice. He is the QB I most prefer in the draft.
Good point on him making clutch plays in the championship game.
Remember 4th and 8?
I do!
”Remember 4th and 8?”
I like your thinking Eli.
I am fine with whomever they pick, but would prefer they either move up and take a QB in the top 4, or take the qb they like best at 11.
Thanks for the post.
Great read Eli!
I also like McCarthy – I think he has great intangibles to go along with a pretty good skill set and has great potential.
Hope to read more from you!
