There’s another interesting aspect to this. Darnold was a number 3 pick and has a lot of talent but has played in two bad situations and was a backup last year in SF. Under KOC with our system, he could turn out o be quite the surprise.

I believe the pecking order is Daniels, JJ then Maye. I was thinking New England would be a good trading partner, but since they traded Big Mac, I have changed to Arizona being our team to trade with. I think Arizona will be looking WR with their first pick. I could see a trade involving Justin or Addison, for their #4 spot.
Our pick will be determined by who is picked by the top three.
Rather use future first or 2nd to move up to 4. Throwing away known premium talent that could help our Rookie QB is stupid imo so I hope the front office does not agree with you. Trade away unknowns not knowns.
Especially premium talent on a rookie deal in Addison and you don’t give up JJ unless you don’t think you’re going to get a deal done with him. JJ on his own should be worth 2 firsts.

Everyone thinks they are going Harrison JR. My bet is if we cant trade with AZ with move up to 5 spot and get the 4th QB remaining, whoever that may be and it doesnt require a future first. Ill be happy with that.
The only problem is Chargers will be looking WR too. If Harrison is gone, they may be more willing to trade and take WR at 11.
WR is one of the easiest positions to draft in the modern NFL. WRs are coming out pro ready all over the country. They can get a solid WR at any place in the first.
So why overpay for one? If they can get AZ’s or LA’s pick for JJ, why not trade him, get the QB you want and pick one of the WRs at 11 or 23.
I agree to an extent, depending on the contract I want JJ extended, they can make him the highest paid non QB and still not over pay for him based on the future years in the contract. But also, my point was about starting caliber WRs. Not top in the league quality WRs. You can get LA and AZ pick WITH OUT giving up JJ. Your goal should be to keep JJ.
That would be my last resort, but if they came back and said we’ll give you #3 or #4 for JJ, I would be on the phone with JJ saying don’t buy that house you’re looking at.

Based on what KOC has shown he values most and what his offense demands I’d say its Maye, JJ, Daniels, plus you can add the McCown connection, but nobody really knows at this point, we will not find out for at least a month, if ever.
Interestingly enough, as I’ve watched some of Mayes games, I think he’s the least capable QB in the draft to run KOC’s system. He simply doesn’t seem to process at all post snap, much like RGIII.
I keep looking, but I’m not seeing anything except raw athletic talent. Big, strong, can throw the ball well. Doesn’t really get to any other level than that.

Ditto. Why would you gamble on a mediocre QB becoming a free agent only to get into a bidding way where the best outcome is going back to the dark ages of overpaying a mediocre QB? Pay what it takes now to get the guy you want in the draft and be set for 2 decades. We can overpay that guy in 4 years.
The salary cap this season is $255 mil, so by the “article” “author” he projects the cap to increase next year by at least $160 mil, that seems pretty unlikely, either that or the person writing just doesn’t know anything.

QotD – I think the Vikings want Drake Maye, and will probably try to trade up.
If that fails, they will take Nix or Penix at 11.
I am just thrilled that the QB room will be less expensive for the next few years so they can attempt to build a solid roster.
My gut feeling is that they will trade up and draft JJ McCarthy (first choice). They will take Drake Maye (2nd choice) if JJ is gone by the time they pick. The wild card will be, what do they do if Jayden Daniels is available when they pick? It will be a very interesting draft.
I think if they’re going to take the penis or Nix that will be at 23
I think they want Daniels, McCarthy, Maye, in that order.
That’s my thought as well. I think they will try to trade up for one without getting robbed. Should they fail then stand part at 11, pick DL if available. Bowers could bee fun too. At 23, trade back, get a 2nd or 3rd back then draft Penix at the end of the first. Nobody in the 20s will be after a QB so that pick could have some good value depending on how everything falls.
