Hey, I survived the Saturday morning AI primer. I was assigned the fly dusting duties and light chute management, did a couple of shots. I got there early (was told the vet would be there at 9:30 so got there at 8:30 – I wasn’t going to be the rate limiting step). My wife’s ex said the vet got here early, guy stepped out of his truck and introduced himself as Troy. I walked to the corrals where they had about 35 cows and fifteen calves separated, they came around the back in a side by side…in classic fashion the ex was carrying on a convo that had started while they were in the vehicle, and Troy said well you (MT) are the doc you should check this out, do you want to cut it? WTF? Turns out they thought one of the calves/steers still had a testicle, Troy was feeling the lump and describing it to me. As I thought he was a vet for obvious reasons I was like “I have no business diagnosing an incomplete orchiectomy”.

I realized about ten minutes later Troy was no vet, he was more like an informal vet tech with experience with AI’ing.

Kinda cool…give the cows a shot of luteinizing/gonadotropin releasing hormone, put a “plug”/tampon laced with progesterone in the vagina. Wait one week, pull the tampon. Wait 72 hours, place the semen. Then put the cows out with the bull, bull bats clean up in case the AI didn’t take. Preg check six weeks later.

I only got mildly cussed a couple of times, for pushing the chute of cows a little too hard such that they bunched up behind the squeeze.

It will probably change each game depending on practices and what they coaches feel each QB needs.
I suspect Mullins will need less time as he knows the offense already.
They don’t want to risk an injury to JJ so a balance between Darnold and him. Find a little time for Hall until he is cut.

That makes sense with a veteran QB, but a rookie is going to need some time on the field to run the offense at game speed.

JJets cap hits:

2024 – $8.5 mill ($88.7 dead)
2025 – $15.3 mill ($80.2 dead)
2026 – $39.1 mill ($40.9 dead)
2027 – $43.4 mill ($14.8 dead)
2028 – $47.4 mill ($7.4 dead)
2029 – Void year, $6 mill

The signing bonus is only $36.9 mill of the total deal so they can likely restructure some of those numbers if needed into signing bonus and lower his cap hits.

I think it also lowers his 2024 cap hit by about $10 mill. According to Spotrac, the Vikings currently have about $27.5 mill in cap space. Turner and JJ won’t take much of that. Any free agents out there still or possible trade targets?

I think it will all move to 2025, but if that was the plan why lower Jets’ cap hit? They had like 17 or 18 mill in cap space already so plenty for injury pickups if needed.

Some of the corners available are Xavien Howard, JC Jackson, Adoree Jackson, Cameron Sutton. Emmanuel Ogbah, Carl Lawson, Yannick available on the DL. Maybe a WR like Renfrow or Thomas?

This is a structure that works for the cap. After two more years, KAM can trade JJ and his cap hit goes away.

Hey JR, I think KAM will walk away from the deal after two years. He’ll trade JJ after getting 6 good seasons out of him. He’ll structure all of his contracts so he can walk away when he wants. This is what “flexibility” means. Don’t actually pay the whole contract.

This year they were 3-9-1 after expectations that they could contend for the SC. HC got axed, Knoblauch assigned as new HC. From bottom in the west (31st in the league) they have been the hottest team in the NHL since.

Expected to beat LA…took them in five games
Expected to lose to Vancouver (who swept them in regular season). Won in seven.
Every expert predicted Dallas would beat them. Won in six.

On to the SCF against Florida. Northernmost vs southernmost. Experts are predicting Florida wins after losing to Vegas in the SCF last year.

In the first season follow the strike in 2005-2006 (their last appearance in the SCF, followed by 11 straight seasons out of the playoffs and several #1 picks, including Ryan Nugent-Hopkins and Connor McDavid, and a #3 pick of some German called Leon Draisaitl), they got hot at the end of the season, snuck into the playoffs at the #8 seed. Not a single expert gave them a chance against the high flying Detroit Red Wings. Roloson (goalie) got hot, and cut through Detroit in six, San Jose in six, and Anaheim in five to come up against the Carolina Hurricanes, formerly Hartford Whalers. First time two WHA teams had met, I had great hopes for the series. Roloson got hurt first game, they went down 3-1 in the series, came back to force a game 7…and lost.

I had high hopes for the next few years. Then Pronger forced a trade, the GM made terrible move after terrible move, and we had the decade of darkness.

MT Viking
3 June 2024 11:10 am

Just a few MT-style ramblings for the day…

I’ve been a fan of the Edmonton Oilers since my earliest memories, some time after their inception as a WHA franchise in 1971. By the time they joined the NHL in 1979-1980 I was a diehard copper and blue fan, those early years with the high powered offense were electric and I had zero expectations of playoff success. First season they got in at #16 of a 21 team league, got murdered by Philadelphia a team that had lost next to no games all season. Each season got better until they carved through the playoffs in 1982-1983 season, came into the SCF against the three time champion NY Islanders, and I thought they would easily beat them. Ended up getting swept by the NYI, I remember the post game interviews where the Edmonton stars recounted walking by the “celebrating” NY locker room, the guys were mostly subdued because they were physically exhausted, the stars realized it takes more than elite play to win the Stanley Cup, it is a slog of a marathon.

Next five SCF appearances, the Oilers won the Cup.

I was shredding a bunch of old checkbooks this last weekend in preparation for the move. As I was tearing apart an old checkbook so that it would pass thru the shedder without causing a jam 4 $100 dollar bills flew out.

After some research 10 years ago I evidently put some ‘extra cash’ in a checkbook for a trip thru Arizona, New Mexico and Texas before we settled on Idaho for retirement. I evidently promptly forgot all about it.

I got very careful about checking what was going thru the shedder after that.
Luckily no $100 dollar bills were harmed in the learning of this lesson.

Correct, context. As in, paying “top” money for players that are actually top. You’re hypothetical doesn’t work because they Lions dont have a rookie QB if they get rid of Goff, their roster and cap usage is different. If Goff was on a rookie contract and you add JJ, yes they win more games.

Not the point – you’re a baseball guy. Pitchers are more valuable than shortstops.
That aside, since you added another condition. Let’s swap JJ and Purdy on the 49ers?

KFEY93
Reply to  JRobert
3 June 2024 11:28 am

Who is playing QB for these teams in your swap? This doesnt work as a 1 for 1 because theres more than one player on the field for one position group and theres only 1 for the other. If anything you should be swapping a WR on the other team. Goff at the mid range QB honestly is not worth $53 mill a year, thats over pay. Jefferson is worth the $35 at top 1-3 is my point. Remove either player from either team and they both win less games, so im not sure what point you’re making except playing devils advocate for the sake of that. Which is a theme im picking up on lol

JRobert

Would just say QB’s are worth more than WR’s. Your original thought although JJ is clearly #1 and maybe Goff is 10, under right circumstances might take Goff.
That aside, looking at last year, when JJ went down our offense was off some first two games (we still won) but then it played really well the next two. Won all four without JJ
Not saying JJ is not the best and we have to be better with him, but to me the question is he worth the money as the highest paid non QB in the league for the marginal difference in overall offensive performance.

And in two years it will be a bargain at that rate. Im sure the cap hits get bigger towards the end of the contract as they often do but we will still have JJ and Dallas Turner on rookie deals.

I expect Lamb to be paid more than Jets, unless Jerra decides to keep the Black Kirko.

And Tyreek Hill is already talking about a new deal along with Chase.

I bet a new WR contract will exceed Jets’ deal by next year, if not sooner.

At least they’re paying top dollar for a top player and without a big chunk of the cap going to a QB, the time is perfect for a deal like this. The length of the contract will also coincide with JJ’s next contract. We’ll see where they sit cap wise at the end of it, but this is possibly/likely his last contract in purple since JJ is going to be getting 60-65 a year. We’ll see if they are able to extend Addison in a couple years.
