Question of the Day
When will the Vikings win their first Super Bowl? I have the 2026 season picked, so Feb 2027 we party.
Down to the Twins 5-1 stopping their 1 game winning streak.
Playing the Yankees in NY was never going to be an easy task.
Audit last week.
Month end close this week.
800 some days to retirement.
Time for a snack…..
Kirk Cousins on investigation into alleged tampering by Falcons: “There’s not a whole lot there”.
Pundits: “Falcons facing serious punishment for tampering”
Vikings fans: “We want draft picks!”
1 & 2 we will find out soon.
#3 Duh.
Other than admitting at his press conference that he met….er..spoke with the head athletic trainer yesterday on the phone.
I think Atlanta will be penalized.
Vikings will get nothing.
Probable.
But in the context of tampering… as in, you know, working to get a player to sign with a team while under contract to another team, not much there. Getting instructions on where to get your physical… is that tampering? Being told where to go to park, and what events will occur the next day at your signing… is that tampering? And in a greater context, should it be?
Just finished insulating my garage, next up paneling
101 degrees here today.
Already dropped off donations to Salvation Army and Church.
Dump did their ‘closed at noon’ thing so that was put on hold.
Waiting on call from The Teacher to pick up furniture from her classroom and haul it home and store it in the garage.
Trying to pace myself due to the heat.
85 here, sweating balls wearing a mask in a non insulated garage.
why does she have furniture at the school?
Her classroom has some things in it that she bought, some shelving and a desk + misc stuff.
She is turning her classroom keys over tomorrow and anything that she brought to the classroom that she wants to keep has to be removed today or tomorrow.
Yeah, there were 3 times it was discussed (not one haha).
There had to be at least one time where it came across as an option and potentially viable thing, potentially out of necessity if he got disgruntled. Seems like a lie, or idiots in charge aren’t accounting for all possible scenarios (which speaks to incompetence). Just a dumb comment.
Not sure which of the points in the Twit you are referring to.
“Oh yeah, and trading JJ was never considered or an option.
““There was not ONE TIME that was discussed among leadership.””
Could have been.
If you consider ‘Should we consider trading Jets?, No? Its unanimous, topic closed’ to be a discussion then go for it.
But it is still considered and an option in that case, which makes the tweet statement a lie. To say “it was never really something we were interested in” is possibly true.
They could have discussed the financial situation around a Jets contract extension and decided it made sense to keep him.
That would mean ‘not once considered trading him’ was just imprecise verbiage. They looked at the contract numbers and figured ‘yep, makes more sense to keep him so not considering a trade‘.
Not sure what you mean but if someone offered two 1’s and a 3, and they didn’t entertain it, then one would really wonder about them.
According to Schefter ‘JJ trade discussions’ consisted of Caller ‘are you willing to trade JJ?’ and Vikings ‘NO’.
His interview starts at 6:25 into the video.
Don’t know Scheffer but guess he’s right.
Still makes me wonder. Just based on my background, would say everyone has a price. And if you buy that, when you have a valuable asset, you start every conversation with no, not for sale – let’s them know they must pay big time for you top even listen.
But maybe football is different.
There is the fan/ticket buyers/jersey sales/ratings to consider.
If the Wilfs beleved that keeping and resigning Jets was in their best interest regardless of the price then I suspect that they understood the complete picture.
Certainly a better understanding than I might have.
For me, a non GM. if I could pull off a Hershel Walker type trade, I would sure give it serious consideration.
HW trade was a screw up in the fine print.
Vikings
‘We will trade you these players and if they are cut at the end of the year we will give you these draft picks instead.’
Dallas.
‘Ok guys, we are going to cut you to get the draft picks and then resign you to the same deal so we get BOTH.’
I mean that if they never even considered it, they are idiots. You have to consider all options in a position like that, particularly if there is a possibility the person gets fed up and they want a trade. So it’s either a lie to say they never considered it once, or stupidity and being bad at their jobs.
Wilf Family is estimated to be worth $5 Billion so they are clearly idiots and bad at their jobs.
Maybe, just a suggestion here, that they know more about all of the financial considerations than the rest of us.
I’m talking Kwesi and KOC, but maybe even the Wilfs. Clearly, they are lying to have never considered it or talked about it (though I said IF THEY DIDN’T CONSIDER IT OR TALK ABOUT IT, they are dumb). I think the lie is the more likely scenario here. Also, no super bowls.
Not sure why you are calling me out here – there is almost no doubt they discussed it and thought about it. Now, they might have thought the answer to a trade is a resounding “no”, but why lie about it in the presser is the question. They want to instill confidence in people, apparently. But it’s highly likely a lie nonetheless.
‘Also no super bowls’
I get the frustration.
I suspect they looked at the numbers and decided it was better to keep Jets.
Not Considering Trading or Even Talking to other teams makes sense, but no doubt they had internal discussions.
Wilfs absolutely had to be on board considering Jets contract had just short of $90 Million due at signing. Wilfs had to sign that check/money transfer so they no doubt were in on it.
KOC and KAM treat TE’s like Slick treated OL.
Musical chairs.
Read over on the DN (I know, I know) is that Harry is unlikely to make the roster at WR and is only 10 lbs lighter than Mundt.
He can catch well enough but we have to see if he can block well enough.
Locked and loaded.
Sounds like jets thinks JJ will be starting this year
He might be.
Of course ‘this year’ could be game 17 but who knows.
will Jets be ok when Ceedee Lamb signs for more than what Jets just signed for?
Yes. He got his and that’s just the market. He’s not as much of a diva as some (see Diggs, Hill). As he said, now it’s time to get to work.
Sounds like Lamb and Aiyuk are both skipping mandatory mini camp.
He’ll hold out for OTA’s and camp next offseason.
Probably not.
Tyreek Hill is already talking about redoing his deal, and I think there is still 3 years? left on it.
It is amazing how well oatmeal with brown sugar, butter and raisins goes with a cold hard-boiled egg with salt…
take the raisins out and add some maple syrup and then i would say YES
Yeah, I am not a huge raisin fan either. I would prefer blueberries.
It is amazing how something as unappealing as a raisin can come from something as tasty as a grape…
Don’t tempt me, rascal. It’s too early for me to have a glass of wine!
Since wine is really just fruit juice, then it really isn’t any different than orange juice so is it really ever too early?
‘wine is really just fruit juice’
Except it is rotten/fermented.
Haha! I’m on my second glass tonight, YUM!
And grapes make some fine bottles of wine.
You’d be surprised how well it goes with a cold hard coffee bender beer from surly
Oh man. that is such a good breakfast beer!
My favorite, just delicious a Todd masterpiece
Tuesday.
50 year anniversary of 10 cent bear night in Cleveland.
Colonoscopy went well. 14 polyps found. None very big and a few they deemed precancerous – Doc said she saw nothing out of the ordinary. Awaiting lab results. Likely to come back within 2/3 years as opposed to 5. I’ll take it. Fingers crossed.
Never underestimate how wonderful a simple ham and cheese sandwich is after not eating anything solid for 36 hours.
QotD: Our window starts in ‘24. This year. I’ll likely elaborate in an MT-style, TL:DR post later.
Stay golden pony boys….

Ha! I didn’t even see that.

Glad that procedure is behind you. It’s amazing how much better food tastes when you’re starving!
Hilarious!

Sounds good so far! I too remember how good that first meal tasted after my colonoscopy.
They did something wrong on my colonoscopy. I had a lot of cramps and pain, and eating made it worse.
I don’t think I started eating normally until about a week later.
Whenever I hear about other people’s experiences, they are like, “I went right to a restaurant and had a huge meal.”
I am like…how?
That’s one of the reasons I did mine without sedation. Figured I would rather have first hand knowledge of a therapeutic misadventure, than “waking up” in pain wondering what the heck just happened.
I especially liked when the doc put down the scope and I felt his hands on my shoulders, “hey whatcha doin'” “oops I forgot you were awake”
I heard the issues were maybe because they didn’t properly vent me afterward. Like don’t they pump air in or something?
So maybe I was getting the bends.
I hope your colonoscopy doctor at least got you flowers!
Yeah, they insufflate you with CO2.
I was teased about ‘enjoying’ my colonoscopy,
I told the coworkers that if I ‘enjoyed it’ I would’t make it back as I would be throwing myself from the train on the trip back.
Good Old Army Humor.
I just read a news story that Steve Martin and Martin Short do their colonoscopys together. They have a party, drink the gunk, play cards during the resultant purging and then go to the appointment together.
That is maybe the way to do it…
I love CJ Stroud !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He seems to be very real, honest.
The opposite of the douche.
Rogers will be a first vote HOFer. Let’s see how the other two QB’s do.
‘Rogers will be a first vote HOFer’
Yup,
And FJB became president, doesn’t make either of them a good person or someone I want around.
That’s true. I was talking about ‘football player Rogers.’
I’ve come around on him and think a having a beer with him could be rather entertaining.
You want to have a beer with FJB?
Only if I can spike it.
With Metamucil?
I watched some of his interview with Tucker Carlson.
He made some points I could agree with.
That’s some interrogation room gold right there…I guarantee he might have more rings for sure.
So Mr. Smith, sounds like you did kill your wife.
Parsing words can be fun.
I do it to The Teacher often, when she complains I tell her ‘you teach the youth of today to read, words are important’.
She agrees but still give me the ‘evil eye’.
a few no name professional athletes getting caught betting on their sports lately.
would be curious to know how many big name athletes are betting on their sport but just haven’t gotten caught yet.
Jets will probably be suspended for a year for betting on baseball or something next week since he has his new deal now and the whole Vikings can’t have nice things.
haha yes, this would be VERY minnesota to happen.
Pro sports leagues are in a crazy position.
Allowing sports gambling as advertisers and promoting the sport, while claiming that their players, officials and management are banned from gambling.
They clearly don’t care about the perception that sports are rigged.
Here you go….
i was reading an article that had a list of things the Men (specifically husbands and fathers) do with their time when their spouses w/children leave for an extended amount of time (Weekend to week)…
It would be fun to see what all of you husbands/fathers have to say what you would do with that kind of free time with the wife/kids gone..
i will go first:
i usually get a week without the wife or kids and i find my time goes towards 2 or 3 bigger projects around the house/yard work…
i make sure any meal i have is EASILY cleanupable, aka Jack’s pizzas.
After day 2 or 3, i start missing them all and wish they were back home. But the first 24-48 hours, the silence is glorious.
Depends on the time of year, but in the summer I go hiking and scouting and then just do yard/house chores when not at the paying job.
I enjoy silence. My wife always has the TV on for background noise. When she heads out for a few days, I only have the tv on if there is sports of some sort I want to watch or a movie she would hate.
I will eat bacon, and save all the bacon fat for cooking other things the rest of the time she is away.
I will read, since nobody will be around to ask me what I am doing or why I am “just sitting there”.
She does not eat much beef, so I will eat beef with the bacon every day.
Burgers, steaks, steak and eggs for breakfast, etc.
Sweet sister turns her tv on the minute she gets up and it stays on until she goes to bed. The only time she turns it off is when we’re going out. It doesn’t bother me when I’m in my room, but if I’m in the kitchen cooking or cleaning, it’s annoying. Finally got her to turn it down when we eat together, have company, or talking on the phone.
She also doesn’t eat much beef. I LOVE beef, but we eat out enough for me to get my fix, haha!
Those instances were few and far between. However had a few. Usually hike or fish, walk around my place in the evening with a beer and dog. If in the summer take care of wife’s 2 greenhouses ( one is 28′ x 72′) and garden. Was always paranoid I’d forget to open GH and turn fan on and wife would come back to a fried greenhouse. Never happened but had about 4 alarms set on my phone.
Last night I wanted to run the drip irrigation for two hours, started the pump when I came home. Then it was run with the dogs, brush the dogs, have supper, review plans for the closet organizers, check some stuff online, take the side by side along the creek and spray some Tordon and 2,4-D on spurge, hook up the snow plow blade to the side by side to see why it wouldn’t pivot last winter, crawl under RV to check the oil in the generator, bathe, sit on the couch and watch a little TV. I was, “hmmm I think I’m forgetting something” AHHH run out and unplug the pump.
All of five minutes later a big cloudburst and wind descended, I got soaked moving things off the deck.
Busy evening, love this time of year with day light after work.
Did you get the heavy rain and winds in Anaconda?
I am with Surly, my wife doesn’t eat much beef – so steak and burgers most days…LOTS and LOTS of GOLF!!
Beef and golf always works – couple of beers too.
Played a tough course this weekend – slope 125 rating 71.9.
Started with a triple and a quad…so 7 over through 2 holes.
Pulled my head out of my ass and finished the next 16 holes at +18….which is about what I will do on a difficult course.
Got paired up with a nice young couple…problem was she was a beginner….he was a decent golfer. If you are taking a beginner to a course like that please scramble….its still fun, she still gets to shoot all the shots, just doesn’t have to take 12 swings each hole.
Yeah.
One of my golf pet peeves is a beginner playing the big course.
Last year my wife and I went to a local golf course. We are not great golfers by any means but, there was a group that showed up at the same time, probably 4-5 people. They hurried to get out in front of us, and had 2 new golfers in their group. I believe it took 3 hours to play 9 holes.
Yeah, that sucks.
Sometimes I will skip a hole if the group in front of me/us isn’t considerate to allow fasting groups to play through.
Tough way to play – with a new golfer. Be nice if they just picked up at double par. Slow play really hurts golf.
I really lament that something very common in the prairie pothole area I came from (sand green courses) are unheard of here. Within an hours drive of Wainwright were about nine courses that could be played, could frequently golf 18 holes on a sand green course and not see another golfer, even on the weekends. Here in Glendive there are no other courses that close, which makes it hard to get into golfing.
Agree. slow play is very annoying. When I was learning, I would end up hitting my one attempt off the tee, then drop wherever the best drive in the group was, and play from there.
I am bad, but I play fast so nobody behind me has to wait.
I haven’t played much golf since like February. Too much on my plate, and now with my sister here, I don’t have time. She requires a lot of care and help. Between her and work, it’s a lot.
That said, I have to play to my limitations. I can hit the ball off the tee about 200 yards, max. I can hit a three wood about 180 max. Therefore I can’t play a 400 yard par four and reach it in regulation. I have to play tees that at least give me a chance to make par on a hole. So big, hard courses would just be for fun. Probably couldn’t break a hundred on a long course.
at our age forward tees are appropriate on longer courses.
The course my son and I play is about 6250 yards from the whites. That’s about as long a course as I can play decently. The senior tees play about 5265. My son tells me to play from there, but as long as I know I can reach all the holes in regulation, I’m good from the whites.
I’m with you at about 6300 – pretty good distance.
You might try 5300 once in a while. WAG – you’ll have fun and ‘score’ won’t be that big a difference.
I’m in the mixed tee scenario.
If the hole is 400 plus on a par 4, I play the next group of tees up. Too long for my old ass as well.
9 hole par 3. For older people.
I do play an 18 hole par 3 about a dozen times a year.
It really allows me to make my pitching wedges automatic on the bigger courses.
I am about 235 off of the tee these days with a 210 three wood. So I still play the men’s regular, but I know the time isn’t very far off when I will be MOVIN ON UP to those senior tees.
I used to hit my driver around 280 with a 255 three wood. Those days are long gone…
Funny, I am nearly as strong as I was back then, but the flexibility is all gone.
Yep.
Same.
Hitting the ball long is over for me.
I bask in the lack of stress and cleanliness.
I usually do a deep clean of the house, watch lots of TV and movies, play some video games, go out to eat, spend more time with other family members. Also practice militarily precise timing in all activities. No being late at all!
I hate when my wife is gone. Seriously. Even though I grumble when she is around, I miss her a lot.
I let the dogs sleep on the bed with me…usually my supper time progresses retrograde each day as I see something bright and shiny that distracts me from fixing supper…play XBox past my bedtime…embark on some project where I try to kill myself (one year I was monkeying with the electrical stuff on an oven and electrocuted myself with good ol’ 220 volts, there was a moment there where I thought I wasn’t going to get myself pulled away, that would have been a nice surprise for her).
If my wife AND the dogs were gone, I would go crazy. I have always had at least the dogs around since long before we got married, unless I’m out of town at a course or something…which is extremely rare.
you go to a male strip club??
I think he works at one.
What is this time without wife or kids you talk about? I’m lucky if I get a couple hours here or there.
My oldest son has been out of the house for a while now but my youngest and his girlfriend live with us so basically two kids again. I just enjoy an empty house when everyone is gone, do what I want.
A friend was telling me how lucky we are to have both Edwards (TPups) and JJ locked up through 2028, arguably two of the top players in their respective sports.
Yawn…I remember lots of “top players” in Minnesota sports over the years ….Peterson, Pucket, Garnett, Randy Moss – just to name a few….Yet with all of those great players we have 2 Championships to show for it over 30 years ago now.
What about Whalen and her 4 rings?
I had to double check, I did spell it right.
I told my kid about the Jefferson extension after baseball practice last night. He said something about JJ being good now and it dawned on me that if JJ is successful and plays for the next 20 years, I will likely be a grandfather by the time the Vikings have a new QB (if the world still exists that is). That would be insanely amazing. We are due.
I just did the math for myself. Damn, 20 years of JJ puts me about at retirement age by the time we argue about the future Vikings QB again.
Being a MN sports fan for over 40 years tells me, if JJ is going to be a great QB, we will trade him before he is great. He will win a championship for another team, ala Garnett
Just in a foul mood today.
Oh and ’87, ’98, ’09, ’17
Drink the purple drink and get excited so you can be disappointed again. I don’t think I’ve ever been this excited about the long term prospects of the team.
I agree, I have not been this excited since we drafted Cullpepper to pair with Moss. A cannon arm and speed to outrun the cover two.
I was too young to be that wrapped up in football. I remember watching em and having fun and I remember yelling at Denny Green for taking a knee and the kick but that’s about it.
I started cheering for the Vikes in ’87. I was a Cowboys fan before that, only because my older brother was a cowboys fan, and I wanted to be just like him.
We forgive you.
glad you came around.
I have 7 brothers; 1 packers, 2 bears, 1 steelers and 3 cowboys.
I was young and impressionable.
My sister dated a Vikings fan and he took me to a Vikings v. Raiders game. Bo’s rookie year. It was pretty cool I could drive to a Vikings game, when I got older.
Bo was such a stud. Sad that he got hurt.
QotD: I believe the NFL will collapse, or at least stumble into irrelevance, before the Vikings win a Superb Owl.
And be replaced by what? The WNBA? Soccer? As a team with a nordic logo, the Vikings are going to bring in a ton of international fans as they go on a multiple Super Bowl run over the next 2 decades.
I just think fans will get tired of the high price for tickets and now with it looking like the NFL will soon be on streaming sites only. It is a matter of time before it is a pain in the ass to watch games on TV.
The only problem is that it is still a big space that would need to be filled with something.
Look at baseball, up until the 80’s it was the most popular sport in the USA. Then it became nearly impossible to go to games, cost wise, and the only way you could watch most games was if you had cable. Now it is one of the least watched professional sports and it takes up 7 months of the year.
Baseball games are still relatively affordable to attend. Baseball is just boring. Our minor league games are cheap as could be and we might go to one game a year.
The KFAN crew was talking this morning about a 10 cent beer night promotion at a baseball stadium in the 70s….basically the fans all got drunk and started getting onto the field..they had to cancel the game.
10 cent beer in 1974 would be 64 cent beer today. Could you imagine? That would be a mess if Target Field sold 64 cent beers.
Always liked minor league baseball. Announcer would pick an opposing player make him the strike guy. 2 for 1 beers if he strikes out for 10 minutes after the AB. What an exercise in mob mentality. Entire stadium would jeer the guy at each AB. Fun
Love baseball! Big Twins/Yankees series tonight…definitely watching.
Playoff Base Ball rocks, if your team is involved, otherwise not so much.
I don’t watch them on TV now.
They are ‘out of market’ so I would have to pay a streaming service of some type. Did the NFL network for awhile but it seemed dumb to pay an annual subsriibtion for a 15 games or so (network tv covering a few).
Since I don’t watch any TV now it makes even less sense to pay to watch, I follow along on the inter web thingie and catch an occasional highlight.
after watching JJ’s “instagram contract annoucement” it left me thinking a couple things..
firstly, since he gave credit to “the man above” he must be tithing 10% of his new contract right? i wonder how that will go…
secondly, the whole “i have been doubted since day one” schtick, “not an easy journey” like come on man, this is getting to be the dumbest thing professional athletes say now a days. as if he hasn’t had the easiest ride at LSU? probably was given a super nice car, house, etc to play there, literally probably hasn’t had to pay for a single thing since HS….
when is that stuff gonna be done and just be like, “i worked hard, and now i made a ton of money, go me!”
He wasn’t recruited much out of high school actually, was the second or third receiver at LSU and look at the receivers taken ahead of him in the draft. The whole draft conversation that year was that he was nothing but a solid slot receiver.
doesn’t mean he didn’t have a free ride since HS….
and the whole “other receivers being drafted ahead of me” is dumb. so what? guess what? you’re the best WR despite where you were drafted and now you’re getting paid. who cares.
Amen.
Just like the BS line of ….”it’s not about the money” and, ” I want to retire a Viking….”
Maybe the man above is the guy living above his condo?
Thats some good out of the box thinking.
QotD: After I am dead….
This is the correct answer.
So the claim that Jetts only wanted to play with Kirko was false?
Where did ‘only want to play with Kirko’ come from?
From several regular posters on here.
Must be my memory – been reading here for over a year and can’t recall that comment.
Yeah me neither. I heard on this site that JJ liked playing with Kirk and thought he was a great QB…I don’t remember seeing that he “only wanted to play with Kirko” I am calling fake news on that one.
There were plenty of those comments, especially around training camp time last summer. One of the main spouters of that nonsense doesn’t stop by anymore.
Yep. The general phrasing was…..
“I don’t think JJ will want to stay if Kirko is gone……”
And by more than just the person who is now gone.
JJ wants to win and won’t be part of a rebuild.
JJ isn’t going to stick around without Kwirk because he won’t get his stats.
Oh no…it’s Tuesday!
No, we’re talking Jets here. Every day is now JJ day and maybe a little Sam I am sprinkled in.
Stop trying to start something ya hoser.
I’m no keener for Kirk, eh.
Why is this even important at this point – /cousins is gone and JJ has a new contract.
Just to ‘put down’ others who made, said, implied or whatever.
I’m rather confident we all have made comments on the future that didn’t quite work out.
It’s not that it was an off handed, one time comment. It was non stop every day bs. It ended with book it, end of story a lot too. If you want to have ridiculous ideas like that, then be prepared to get called out when you are as wrong as you were told you were.
Who’s “you”?
Regardless I see little need to point out others mistakes years after the event. And gloating I’m right they were wrong has hardly ever done anything for me.
The ‘call’ stands on its own.
If it doesn’t involve you, why are you worried about it? Maybe it’s a joke between friends that you should not concern yourself with unless you feel like you are being called out unnecessarily?
Just curious I guess. Like ‘ let yea without sin cast the first stone ‘
Just curious when I see woke ass retribution type behavior from folks that surprises me.
Surely doesn’t “worry me” and not really a concern, believe this whole thing got started with a statement and I merely couldn’t recall ever seeing it. Didn’t realize this was all just a “joke between friends” Thought you just told me that someone had made ‘ridiculous’ repeated comments and “needed to be called out.” Didn’t strike me as a joke.
It can be both and you don’t need to get your white knight cape out at any hint of somebody getting given a hard time. Defending something I don’t know anything about has hardly ever done anything for me.
Well excuse me Mr. Admin. If you feel compelled to rub someone’s face in it – go for it.
And I may know a great deal more about ‘things’ than you give me credit for.
Yep. And more than one person said it.
It’s fine.
Just own up to the wrong comments you make.
I hate being wrong.
Which is why I am rarely wrong.
It was said.
It is not fake.
I believe a pundit tweeted, Jets wanted to see what direction the Vikings were going with QB before he signed a contract. Not so much whether or not Kirk was going to be here.
Correct. That was in January or February.
Jetts publicly said that he wanted Kirk as his QB in December.
It’s really not far fetched that random bloggers on a football blog would make posts about Jetts not wanting to stay.
It happened.
Feb 2027 sounds like a good pick.
But why not Feb 2026 as well?
Now we’re talking. JJ is gonna have two rings before he finishes his rookie deal.
reading through yesterdays comments…
i didn’t realize how many of you guys were gymnasts.
First Vikings SB…
JJ has to be for real and have to get a formidable OL and DL.
If all goes well, that will take two more seasons, and they could threaten a SB in 2027.
Otherwise, next window will be 2037ish. Vikings are a once-a-decade team.
Not anymore. They are getting ready to start a two decade run of dominance.
I wouldn’t even know how to handle that much success.
Sorry this was late.
Work and life things….
