The Kickoff rule was changed a fews year ago for the touchback to be at the 25 yardline.
The main driving force for this change was “injuries”.
Now the new kickoff rule appears to make it more likely that the there will be a kickoff return.
So now the whole prevent “injuries” line was complete BS?
The returns that happen with the new rules won’t have the long run ups and top speed collisions like the old returns.
So running to try and tackle the returner isn’t allowed?

As kids we came up with a game called slow motion football. We couldn’t run at full speeds. Not sure why we created it.
But, one day my neighbor was tackled and trying to prop himself up with his hand and he busted his thumb. He was agony and his parents rushed him to the hospital.
This micromanaging of the game will likely lead to new types of injuries.

” Inheritance Tax” – you make money, spend your life trying to save some. And then the government wants to take some of the money you want to pass along to your kids.

You should be happy. The government knows what’s best. They have much higher goals for your money than giving it to your kids. You are just being selfish.
I am selfish. I don’t want to ‘run their lives from the grave’ as some do, but they’ll always be my kids and to the extent I can help them, I would like to do so.
In general, the “inheritance tax” or death tax doesn’t exist for most taxpayers.
Some states have an “inheritance tax” on lower amounts.
If your estate is valued under $12 million dollars, there is no estate tax/inheritance tax/death tax.
There is income tax on the amount the estate earns before it is distributed to its beneficiaries. So if you have $10 million in your estate, there is no tax on the $10 million. But if that $10 million earns $1 million before it closes, then there is a tax on the $1 million in income earned.
I’m sure that makes you feel better.

They should follow South Africa’s lead and take the farms when the patriarch dies and give the farmland back to the indigenous peoples.

Biden has proposed eliminating the “stepped up basis” of assets inherited.
Right now, if someone has owned land for 50 years and bought it for $3,000, but is worth $300,000 after death, there is no tax on the $270,000 earned over that time.
But Biden and congress is trying to eliminate it, so beware.

Watched a show the other night ” Reagan: Portrait of a Presidency.” Great show and I found in moving.
But something left me wondering – a President (politician) that is articulate giving a speech or off the cuff. And there were others, both parties, that were thoughtful and articulate.
What the hell has happened to us. We seem to have a bunch of misfits.
From podcasts iv listened to, it sounds like Regan was also a pretty big “Puppet” president. He was a mouth piece for the people running the show and was also him self mentally aloof as it were. There’s a two part comedy podcast that focuses on historical figures (they do research their topics and subjects beforehand) and what they talk about is wild. Regan was so disconnected from reality at some points. But at least he could read and didnt have dementia.
Was also married to a legendary Hollywood bj Queen…. Allegedly
Reagan at heart was a mid westerner and actually went to a small college in central Illinois, Eureke College. And I would say as a midwesterner who lived in DC for years. there’s the elitest in DC who sort of look down on folks with good common sense ideas that didn’t go to the Ivyes. He ws is own man, comfortable with who he was, and hardly a puppet of others. He was in fact a master at getting others to ‘see’ his way.
Now, later in the second term, his dementia did start to show.
The humor of these two may not be for you but I really encourage you to listen to the facts the bring up in this episode and the second part. You may have a change of heart.
Or don’t. Does not matter to me. I wasn’t around during his admin so I have no personal feelings, other than Regan may not have been as great as people think.
Couple of thoughts.
My initial post was more about politicians then seemed to be able to articulate thoughts on their feet at a level that we don’t have today – both parties. Tip O’Neil certainly could do so. Contrast that to schumar and O’Connell who can’t say two sentences without reading from a card. And then it sounds like a fifth grader.
Now, I didn’t mention greatness – that’s a tough issue. But do know, Reagan ended the cold war, brought inflations down from 18% to 4%, lowered taxes and cut loads of federal regulations. Maybe not great, but I’ll take it.
But I’ll listen but freely admit being leary of online podcasters.
Thats true, I just saw Regan and articulate together and immediately got suspect haha. Totally on me for taking it down a different path of discussion. As you should be, these two specifically both lean liberal when it comes to their personal politics but iv found that they do leave that out of their actual research on their subjects, so everything they do say and talk about is factual.
and a little fact, Reagan was once the voice of the Chicago Cubs. a little baseball is good for everyone.
They go over his family history, up bringing and younger years in the podcast as well. Might even catch some facts you yourself are not aware of.

True. The ‘alleged’ event was reported 41 years after the fact. All those political races and this was never discovered. Then three years after he leaves office, someone is writing a book about his wife, and a former actress alleges this for the book. Reminds me of the Kavanough confirmation.
Since this was ‘alleged’, never confirmed it is surelynot like a piece on the side but it is also not for sure true.
I could see this at the end of his second term where he was suffering from Alzheimer’s.

Developed some really bad hip pain last week.
Can’t sleep at night due to the pain.
I started self medicating at night with Tramadol, which is an effective narcotic. I am able to sleep a few hours, I can get through the night with 2 separate doses.
So glad I never throw any of that stuff away.
Only bad thing is it says if you drink alcohol and take Tramadol you can die…
Yup – be damn careful. My mother in law had this issue. Took far too much for too long and developed bowel issues from all the constipation.
If you lived closer I would just meet you to get some gummies, I suspect they would do the trick.
I only take the 2 at night…I can get through the day without.

In all my years of practice in healthcare, I’ve had my share of adventures and misadventures, addressed complaints in a reasonable manner, been transparent when an error is made, etc…but NEVER had a complaint that was posted on a hospital FB page.
Two months ago a chiropractor complained about me on the FB page. Turns out he had called the department and asked the technologist if he could bring in some x-rays he had taken in his office and go over them with me. The technologist asked me, that’s a no for many reasons including hospital policy plus about ten others I can come up with off the top of my head.
I told my favorite nephew in law (chiropractor) about it, he was mortified that his fellow DCh had pulled that card but not surprised (as he knows him).
I think Quackopracters have some benefit in very limited circumstances….very limited…
It is telling that they can get you in so soon…they want to start treating you before you start to feel better and then take credit…of course you need a fairly long series of treatments – 1 just won’t do.
They are mostly a joke looking for cracks and sounds to feel pleasurable, but no real benefit to “treatment”.
I have been told by people to go to Chiropractors reqularly that some are quacks and some are very good at what they do.
Personally I have never been to one, but then I also believe that the less often you go to see a Dr the less often you are sick and the only difference between Medicine and Poison is the dosage.

I have tried all of that…can’t sleep in the bed at all. Strictly a recliner right now and that doesn’t feel good either…hence the Tramadol.
I thought it might have been caused by the 50 miles I walked in DC a few weeks ago…but it didn’t start right away when I got back, and it doesn’t seem to be getting any better. That hip has been grumpy since I was about 35 years old…its just never been anywhere near this bad.
You walked 50 miles in DC? Maybe it is the bullet in your back?

quick xray will show if it’s arthritis, since this is a bit long term.
A little side – amoungst the knee replacement folks at pt sessions, Tramadol is worthless.
And if you walked 50 miles around DC and are still alive, not been shot, be grateful.

In my stash I have oxycontin and hydrocodone. They gave Tramadol for my wife’s hip replacement so I thought I would try it..They gave her about 20 pills, she used 2.
Just meant for most of us Tramadol was weakest compared to oxy and hydrocodone. It’s good if the ‘weakest’. works for you.
I had good luck taking 4 200 gram advils at once.
I am hesitant to take that much advil…but I might try it..we will see what the doc says tomorrow.
Definitely do not do the max dose (800 mg PO tid) of ibuprofen unless okayed by dr.
I would rather take narcotics than that much advil…
Well MT is a doctor so not going to argue. But as a guy who had a knee replacement, and two months before four wisdom teeth pulled, all of my doctors allowed me to take advil for pain relief ( as it worked) for up to ten days – 2400 mg per day. I was hesitant to take stronger narcotics.

Have you looked into getting a hip injection (in radiology BTW, if someone tells you they can get a needle into the hip joint without imaging they are FOS)?
I have my physical tomorrow..I am hoping for an Ortho referral and I would very much like to try the hip injection.
I will make sure to get the imaging done…there are times I think imaging is unnecessary – this is not one of those times.
(just joking, I agree there are times that imaging is just done for CYA purposes, and this is one time it definitely needs to be done)
Yes, I have many patients that swear by them. Some go up to a year between injections. No rhyme or reason but they are well tolerated.
So, based on current healthcare BS, you might get an appointment by January 1?

Question for you mechanical types:
Got a toro push mower – wife turned it on its side to clean out wet grass that accumulated under the deck. Didn’t prop it up by pushing the handle back but laid it on its side, cleared the grass and turned it back over. Went to fire it up and it started but immediately started belching white smoke and spitting oil out of the exhaust. Thinking oil must’ve leaked onto the engine. Straight gas for the mower, not an oil/gas mix. Not sure how to proceed. Do I just fire it up and let it burn off (after adding oil)? Do I need to take it in? Throw off a cliff?

I’d try pulling the spark plug and turning it over a few times to clear oil out of the combustion chamber.
This and check oil level, should be okay but ensure to much did not leak out. then let it run the smoke should clear up after a couple of minutes.
Clean the carburetor. Pull the spark plug and make sure there’s not oil in the cylinder.

It takes a couple hours to charge the battery and it’s good for 45 minutes. My lawn takes 40 minutes to mow….Life is good.
The biggest issue I have with electric mowers, is everyone that I have looked at says, “a full charge for up to 1 hour !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
Unfortunately, I have to mow 3/4 of acre and it takes longer than an hour.
Just buy 2. Problem solved.

We have 3 batteries, since the snowblower uses the same ones. The original battery is not holding a charge as well, but the two from the snowblower still work fine.

There are plenty of brands that will do that much without a recharge. Even zero-turn riders (one of which I have).

You know more about this than me, but was thinking this sort of goes on and on – you make income, buy gas and pay gas tax, the gas station pays employees and they pay taxes and buy things and pay more taxes.

Darnold will have a Case Keenum type of year, so they can’t take him out. Then he will move on after the season to some team for $40 million a year.
Will become interesting if Darnold plays really well and the offense rolls. Heard Phillips talk a week or so back noting how talented Darnold was and could see why he was an overall number three pick. With good coaching he might surprise a lot of people.
I still think Darnold will be a below-average QB and won’t show much beyond his past play. But we can hope.

Zeph is doing much better. After being fed with a tube for so long, they are working on getting him back to eating solid foods. Also, he is having some issues with his blood pressure. However, there is some beginning chatter that they may discharge him from the hospital in a couple of weeks. They will still stay in the Ronald McDonald house as he needs to be close to the hospital because he will be going in often for check-ups. They are also doing some beginning planning of heading back to base (JBLM) in August. Things are looking up right now. I appreciate all of your thoughts and prayers.

Dad has been doing pretty good. It helps that he is a nurse, so he has a good understanding of what’s going on. Mom has been having a rough time, however, it has really helped that he is now doing much better.
i can imagine mom is having a rough time. as dad’s it’s always hard to see your kids hurting, but mom’s have a different relationship with their kids so i can totally see that.
My wife likes to call and talk to each of our three kids each week even though they are out of the house and are creating their own lives. Sometimes it is harder to get ahold of the boys, but she still tries. I know everyone if a little different, but I agree, mom’s have a different more intimate relationship with their kids. If I want info from the kids, I just send a text.
yeah, my mom tries to stay in touch with me often, but i know she talks to my sisters every day, and my sisters talk to each other everyday as well…
i usually catch them once every couple weeks
