Goose looks happy today!
Goose is always happy….
Happiest gd dog you ever saw.
Never met a stranger.
Terrified of thunder. Or slamming doors. Or god forbid the smoke alarm goes off…..
But he’s all happy all the time
That native grass in the rough makes that course look like crap.
Racist
Give me Augusta any day.
Sniffer at it again. Kissing the hair of Italian PM Meloni. He creeps me out.
I couldn’t break 200 at Pinehurst.
Sure you could, just play 15 holes.
Now Sniffer, once a pervert always a pervert.
There was a blood pressure discussion going on earlier this week.
I was asked to get mine checked and went in Monday (it had been 145/95 when I went in with a sinus infection, primary doc saw that number and wanted a follow up).
I have a pretty accurate cuff for checking at home, and it had been pretty consistent in the high/normal range. Went to the doc, 160/100. damn. I get “white coat syndrome” but that is high.
5 minutes later, it was 145/95. Still high, but I am not imminently exploding. Nurse tells me to sit and relax, and the triage nurse will be in to check. So, I sat in a dark room thinking about what I did, and when the triage nurse checks in about 15 minutes later, it is 135/75. I then took it with my at-home cuff, and it was 3 points higher, so pretty close.
Well, I had drank 4 large beers and had chicken wings at a family gathering the night before. I have checked my BP each morning since, and it is normally 125/80 first thing in the morning.
Last night I had two drinks (Stilly canned vodka things) and this morning, 135/92.
So, today I bought some more THC seltzers. I guess I strictly limit the booze consumption for a while.
Would say when I drink ‘more frequently’ note increase in BP. Have noted also when I am outside a lot, sweating a lot and drinking large amounts of water, drinking is not as much affected by the alcohol.
MT – regarding your cancer discussion from yesterday…….
When I lived in Baltimore, it seemed to me that there was a disproportionate number of people I met who had major medical issues going on.
Some rather rushed and less-than-professional research led me to hypothesize that seaboard areas where people consumed a higher quantity of bottom-feeding shellfish (lobsters, crabs, crayfish) created a higher density of people with health issues.
I can definitely believe that.
Just saw The NFL is docking the Falcons a 2025 fifth-round pick for violating the league’s anti-tampering policy with Kirk Cousins, Darnell Mooney and Charlie Woerner. The team is also being fined $250,000 and GM Terry Fontenot is being fined $50,000.
The violations are considered logistical/administrative, such as making travel arrangements after players agreed to terms, and did not involve contact prior to the negotiating window, per sources.
This is pretty petty IMO. Making travel arrangements after agreeing to terms, is tampering? Stupid.
5th is a joke. Glad NFL got some money though.
This seems ridiculous in the extreme to me. Administrative issue. The rules say the team can’t contact a player prior to signing… I get that. But come on… they were working with the players to get them into the facility to sign them after agreeing to terms.
I don’t really care one way or another, but on principle, this is goofy. Saquon actually had conversations with the Eagles front office while still under contract to the Giants, and the NFL didn’t do anything to the Eagles. Really weird to me. The Eagles actually did tamper… no punishment.
NFL has no accountability. Same shit, different year.
I think it’s stupid too. NFL administration’s credibility is not quite as bad as NCAA (which destroyed itself), but not much better.
boy, the NFL is really going after them….
why even do this? all of those things are diddly squat.
All the crap Vikings were going to get this and that, and Falcons were in serious trouble, was just that – a lot of crap.
Oh yes, the pundits played the role of drama queen to the fullest. This was a total nothing burger. They’re getting punished for making travel arrangements.
X says tampering was 3 players, who are other 2?
Darnell Mooney and Charlie Woerner.
BS sandwich number two – NFL didn’t discover “sufficient evidence ” that the Eagles tampered………..
Guess the NFL is trying to pick up the NFCS.
Made up QotD: How much time would you need to take off from work to recover from a Vikings Superb Owl victory?
I am just planning for this Februaries time off request.
You should probably take the whole month of February off. You will need the days leading up to the game to deal with anxiety and then the rest of the month off to party.
i truly feel that anxiety comment
I remember being very anxious during the lead up to the Super Bowls in the 70s. It was very stressful. I was just a young teenager, and obviously, never got to celebrate a victory.
Someday maybe….before I die…
I would probably take the Friday before and the Monday after for sure.
another layer to this question….would you go to a super bowl party if the vikings were in it?
i honestly feel like i wouldn’t want to be around anyone. super bowl parties are usually annoying as most the people there aren’t watching the game and have zero interest so they are trying to talk about stupid stuff etc…
idk. i would feel EXTREMELY anxious if the vikings ever made the bowl, and i don’t know if i want my friends to see how i truly watch a big game like that haha
I prefer to watch football alone, because other people chatting during the game is distracting and annoying. I would NOT go to a Super Bowl party.
I will stay home and watch it.
nobody other than my wife needs to see me at my worst.
NO.
WHEN the Vikes make the Superbest of the Owls I’ll be watching by myself (probably with Goose by my side) and nobody else. No friends. No wife. Me and the Mutt and a shitload of cannabis.
Win or lose I want to soak up the moment. Not gonna care about the food, the hype, the commercials. Just the game.
It’ll be a nerve-racking, gut-wrenching experience and I can’t wait.
Skol
NO I would be in isolationist stance. My wife, “the dogs want you to share some popcorn with them” Me “aaugh stop talking just shut up leave me alone this sucks SOOO bad” Her “—-“
I don’t like watching football with other people, especially ones who get worked up. I just want to chill out. So if I do watch with other people, I like mellow folks.
If I watch a football game with another person, I watch with mom. It is something to do with her to keep her mind occupied.
That is sweet of you.
It would be a tough call, the only time I have watched a high stakes Vikings game with friends, was the Minneapolis Miracle game.
No party for me. I’m sure my boys would watch with me as they usually do. I made sure it was nothing but vikes for them since birth so I guess I’m a bad dad for all the future years of misery. I do know that they will see me cry tears of joy if the purple can bring home a championship!
I’ll be in my grave, so I’ll have plenty of free time…
I’ll find out soon if the Oilers can somehow pull off a SC victory.
I always think Houston when I hear Oilers. I’m old apparently.
Earl the Pearl
Me too
When they finally make the game again, I am for sure taking Monday off.
I am old, and no longer drink as much as I used to.
so i am learning the annoying way, that i should have EVERYTHING go onto my credit card, since credit card companies will credit you back if you ever deal with fraud, in a heartbeat, but banks like to take their precious time…
my debit card got compromised in california (SHOCKER), and there were 3 payments equaling around $2,000 that were fraudulent charges. I called the bank the same day they happened, and it will require up to a 1 month investigation. so i have $2k just….tied up…
if this happened with my Amex, they would have credited me back INSTANTLY…
We put everything possible on credit cards for cash back and points.
I read a story about this one guy who had a cash back credit card with a $5000 limit, so every month he would go to the local casino, buy $5000 worth of chips with his credit card, turn the chips back in and collect his cash back every month.
yeah, i try to always make the big purchases etc on my credit card. But i will now make sure everything is done on my credit card.
i have also heard stories of people who have “cheated” the rewards/cash back system with returns etc
We put everything we can on the credit card for cash back, including things like our electric bill. As long as you pay it off each month, which we do, it’s a nice discount on everything we buy.
We use ours the same way. Paid in full each month, but we use travel rewards vs cashback.
Pays for 1 decent vacation a year.
A smart doc I know would buy gold coins from the US Mint with his CC, turn around and return them to the bank, rinse lather repeat. Flew all around the world on miles.
Believe they can take no more than 10 business days. A “good” FI will usually give you a credit pretty quickly for established customers.
Good idea to use credit card rather than debit as much as possible.
Rash of that going around. I got notified by my bank’s fraud dept 2 days ago that someone in Japan ran my card, they blocked it, and I had to go yesterday and get a new one.
I was there at 2 in the afternoon – they said I was about the 30th person to come in and get a new card, all caused by the same person in Japan – he ran the cards, but all were $0 transactions???????
Hey, when you get a minute, can you give me your new card number and the three digit code on the back?
Amex jeez Richie Rich.
Well I jinxed Tiger… he bogeyed his last two holes to go from oner under, to one over. Bother.
Don’t want to jinx him, but Tiger is playing well so far in the U.S. Open. Made an 111 footer for birdie on his first hole (#10), made a 10 footer for par, and also an 8 footer for par. One under through his first six holes. Unfortunately, he just hit a bad tee shot into the native area on the 523 yard par four 16th hole.
i wonder if that 111 foot made put was a record. that’s quite the putt.
Laughing… typo… 11 footer
523 yard par fours…what is this world coming too…
Of course for those guys its a 320 yard drive and a 200 yard 6 iron.
for me it would be a 230 yard drive into the native grass, a 70 yard punch out into the fairway. a 210 yard approach 3 wood, a muffed pitching wedge, an o.k. pitch wedge and a 3 put. Carding an 8 and moving on.
I am golfing this pm…can’t wait.
Laughing… nice. I think that might be the way a lot of us would play that hole./
“Native area “? We call that a reservation up here, or downtown.
” Reservation ” – usually required at a nice restaurant.
Pros putting for pars never hold up.
Usually, but in a U.S. Open, that’s “par for the course”. Pinehurst #2 is playing very hard.
Par is indeed a good score at US Opens but you have to hit your fair share of greens in regulation.
Were any of you guys ever on TalkVikes? TalkVikes was created after the Star Tribune Message Boards died around 2005ish.
I just checked in, and the regulars are still there.
do they have slacker mods who forget to put up a daily thread?
Do any of them have a 3 day battery exchange program?
Invite them into our friendly community!
I always thought Skoldiers was one of the guys from TalkVikes but would always forget to ask him.
i introduced my kids to the beach boys on my trip to san diego a couple weeks ago.
and guess what…they LOVED them.
i bet it would be tough to find someone who hates the beach boys.
I hate Kevin Love, who is related to a Beach Boy.
“Knuckle push-ups”…what a Knuckle Head!
didn’t it later come to be that he had “mental health” issues?
Probably. Good player but a douche. Then he went to join Lebron’s super team. Just gross all around. I hope his giant bed made out of million dollar bills is enough to help him cope with my dislike!
i don’t disagree…
he was apart of YEARS of timberwolf futility.
Did you visit their graves, or were you introducing them to the new Beach Boys? Were they hanging out at the In and Out? Enquiring minds need to know.
’Hold my beer….’
Ben probably hates them, he hates the Beatles and the Beatles are the best band ever.
Great media selection. Now that’s music.
The Beach Boys have some good music, but I was never really a fan of that song.
Beach Boys were good background music to have on when you were sitting on a tailgate by a bonfire on a summer night drinking beer….
But its not music I really “listened” too.
Still nice to listen to just sitting on the porch drinking beer
I’ll give you that.
How’s the hip?
Better but not great…I will be curious to see how golfing goes today…last night I was able to sleep in a bed for a few hours. Thats the first time in a few weeks.
Did a gouger finally glance at your x-ray and state, “I want my two dollars”?
Better Off Dead autorec.
No! I am thinking I should just forward it to you! Starting to get just a tish irritated.
Nobody rushing their dog to the vet.
Happy Thorsday!
Good morning, SKOL!
FTP!
Where is everyone?
I’m here, didn’t check in right away. Figured it would be noon before we got a new thread. Haha
I even took caffeine this morning. Usually I don’t do that. So I’m running at an unprecedented 55 percent power…
If some showed that cartoon to a kid today, imagine the trauma that would ensue. All those cigarettes, man…
It’s funny reading reviews on the Fandango site and they will mention to parents that people smoke and drink in the movie. They also will mention if there is product placement. Some of the stuff parents worry about today makes me cringe. If you model good behavior to your children and teach your children that movies aren’t real and also teach them what is right and wrong, they should be able to figure out that some behaviors in movies are unacceptable. Especially that evil practice of product placement.
The Nanny State sucks.
On the other hand, too many parents are also failing miserably.
I will fix that when I am in charge. If you aren’t a responsible parent, I will put you in a reeducation camp, take your children, teach them that I am their god and create an invincible army…
I agree that there also a bunch of “parents” that don’t know how or just don’t care to actually parent.
It’s to easy not to care. Just give the kids a smartphone and forget about them. I see this all the time these days. Young children carrying smart phones, an easy way out of parenting.
I have a coworker that is giving his two year old all the screen time he wants. He wants his kids to be “tech savvy” and the kid has a tablet or phone in his hands non stop. I told him he was being an idiot since I do not care about offending him. His kids will have all sorts of issues caused by always looking at a screen.
You can teach them to be tech savvy but they also need to be people savvy. That is hard to do if you don’t interact with real people.
I reinforce with my grandkids all the time how rude it is to pull up their phone and look at it while they are having a conversation with me.
I’m just waiting for the time I am chatting with a bank manager or at a doctor’s appointment and they glance at snapchat on their phone. Wouldn’t be pretty.
I can tell how much devices have affected even my attention span. Now when I watch TV, I am usually looking at something on my phone simultaneously, and sometimes working on a PC. It’s like everything is too SLOW now without all of that input.
Same here, LOL.
I incorrectly assumed that since Ben is in between jobs, he would be up early and make this his first priority.
Once again, Surly was wrong.
If Ben thinks that a job and supporting his family is more important than us, then he is sadly mistaken.
Agree…this is exactly the kind of self-centeredness that will keep him from landing a job…..
(Truly hoping it all works out for you soon, Ben).
