Twinkies split with the Chi Sox today. 3-2 and 1-3 for another 3-2 away series win.
Pablo pitched decent but didn’t get the win, Ober pitched decent and got the loss.
Such is baseball.

I was at trauma conference this morning. They were reviewing cases and I missed a doozy while I was off in late June. Someone pulled a Thelma and Louise way back at Artist’s Vista back side of Makoshika state park, late at night during a rainstorm (intentionally). Took fire and ambulance 4 hours to get them out of there.

Boy hauling a basket with 200 pounds of human in it up the Makoshika buttes and cliffs in a rainstorm with gumbo like walking on greased ball bearings would be a chore I would not enjoy.

My old FIL was an old country Dr (and ex Canadian) and was on the rotation for Coroner, lots of stories about the dinner table.

He pulled his 3 HS kids to the morgue when some students had a fatal crash so that they could ‘SEE’ the consequences of drinking and driving.

Good Man, I miss him. Too bad his daughter was/is not more like him.

EMS guys and gals earned there pay that night. Man. Last time I paddle fish on the Missouri I fished several hours in a light but steady rain. When returning to camp from the river, I started the 400 yd trip at 5′ 11″ by the time I got to camp I was 6′ 10″ from gumbo. Thighs burning from lifting 15-20 # with each step. I was on level ground and not carrying 200#.

More Jets on Rich Eisen:

Jefferson said that the Vikings put McCarthy’s locker next to his and that he’s taken on the responsibility that comes with that placement.

“They want me to be that guy that J.J. can always talk to and ask questions,” Jefferson said. “He’s definitely that type of kid. He definitely wants to ask questions. He wants to learn how to be a top quarterback. He wants to learn how to become a problem in this league.”

Jefferson said he’s told McCarthy not to worry about expectations and “carry yourself with confidence,” which is likely a good deal easier when you know Jefferson will be on the receiving end of your passes.

Gonna be close. Tester has boat loads of money, running a bunch of attack ads. Just like bow often says, label him a rich out of stater and it seems to stick. The only issues that Tester has not voted with the D’s in his career is 2A stuff, in this state it would be political suicide. He voted with Obama/Biden > 95% of the time. Also some blatant lies in his ads.

Isn’t Montana a very red state and Trump carried by over 16 points. Would seem the Republicans can spend enough and put up enough of Tester’s voting record to win this.
And his opponent is a former Navy Seal – the real deal.

It is red but many voters have no problem voting candidate over party lines. Also, the “rich out of stater” tag seems pretty effective. Not sure why people fault others for working hard, starting a successful business, and making money from the business. Envy I guess.

True. The out of stater label seemed to work against Dr Oz well in PA last time. Don’t know the Repub here but if he is a former Seal he’s no Dr Oz type. And for ‘red voters’ Tester’s voting record is about as blue as it gets.

It’s hard to explain the ingrained hatred Montanans have for out of staters and they lie that he is closing hunting access so the uninformed will hate him, which is most of the voting public. My favorite is their ad that says Sheehy is shady because he hired lobbyists while ignoring the fact that Tester takes more money from lobbyists for doing nothing than anybody in DC.

Well will just say. For all of us, even outside of Montana, The Republicans need to win this seat and the RNC should break the bank if they have to to win it. No matter what it costs.
Hell most people that have lived in a state very long don’t like out of staters. But sometimes there’s bigger issues at stake. For example, little old Montana could decide the fate of who controls the US Senate. Pretty damn big deal.

Yeah, that’s not the way Montanans think. Out of staters are bad and their is a hierarchy to them as well. The worst is obviously Californians followed very closely by Minnesotans. Somewhere after that is Cheeseheads and people from Oregon/Washington. After CA and MN it starts to depend on what part of the state you are in.

Quick anecdote: Daughter working for Montana Fish wildlife and parks (FWP she finally finished her BS) this summer doing a lot of driving, surveys of fisherman etc. FWP gave her a rental car with California plates. She got flipped off several times the first day just driving. Guys wouldn’t talk to her when she would drive up to the raft take out sites. Had to tell a few college kids hassling her at a fish access site that she was born and bred in Anaconda and we kicked your ass in high school softball (Dillon kids). Boss finally got her a new car. She also carries a 9mm in her waist band under her uniform.
Well I guess that wasn’t really quick.

Movers delivered the household goods yesterday, we now have rooms full of boxes. I joked with The Teacher saying it looked like that warehouse scene in Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Guys were working hard, running back to the truck to pick up the next box in 105 degree temps. We gave them access to all the drinks in the fridge. I worked the garage and directed stuff to different rooms, The Teacher worked inside and got stuff set where she wanted/needed it go.

Garage looks semi-organized, shelves all along the walls and enough room to park the CRV inside. Lots of work still to do but we can take all the time we need to do said work.

Oh and semi obligatory

Since you are no longer a CA resident, anything you now collect should not be subject to CA income tax, but ID income tax. Unless there’s some CA commie tax plan to keep taking your ID money. Not 100% sure on that.

Jets on Rich Eisen:

I always knew Kirk was going to do whatever he needs to do for his business-wise. I just knew that everything wasn’t the way he wanted it to be here. Especially just with having to pay me and having to pay so many other different guys, I feel like he just wanted a new start. A new opportunity to start with Atlanta and a clean slate. I’m not mad at him at all for that. I’m grateful for what he has brought to me, and the things that we have accomplished together, but at the end of the day it’s a business. You have to do what you have to do for yourself and your family. I clearly understand that. It’s on to the next.

“It doesn’t really matter what quarterback it is in my eyes, I’m always going to make the best of the opportunity. Always going to try to be the quarterback’s friend and make his job a lot easier. It doesn’t matter if it’s Kirk or if it’s Sam or it’s J.J. I’m going to make it as easy as possible for them.”

JJ will not earn his big contract.

Not that paying him was wrong. Might as well at this stage. But he has peaked and will start trending downward going forward.

That is my negative nilly take for the season. He will still be okay, but not $35-million-a-year okay. For that money, he better lead the league in all WR categories. I don’t care who the QB is; that is the expectation.

Reply to  Wrenage

I think this is a rational expectation. It’s fair to expect defenses are going to focus on taking JJ away, and whoever the QB is, they will have to work hard to get him the ball. Since none of the QB’s on the roster have ever shown to be anything special in the NFL, this could be a down year for JJ.

Sorry about your insurance company issues. That sucks. Back in the day, there was a storm that rolled through our area and there was a house that we drove by every week that had some severe damage. Months and months went by and the damage was not repaired. The person that owned the house finally bought one of those big moveable signs and started blasting State Farm on the sign over and over. I don’t know how or when it was resolved or if it was resolved at all, but eventually (probably a year later) the house was finally repaired.

On the other side of things, I’ve had State Farm for over 40 years and have never had a major problem with them. When our shed collapsed a few years ago, we had it resolved within a few weeks.

Last thought on this. Believe State Farm policies are issued thru locsl agents and not nationally. As such, a local agent receives a commission for each of your yearly renewals. If you haven’t already done so, might be worth lighting a fire under his ass over this.

Seems like a cop out by agent. Oh well, if he doesn’t mind the loss of income, seems prudent to find someone who does.

We went with a ‘broker’ here in Idaho, they found the company (SafeCo) that gave us best deal.

Have yet to make a claim so don’t know how well that part will work out.

State Farm agents used to be much more involved, however State Farm has started to really centralize. It kind of makes the agents kind of pointless.

Insurance is Calif is so bad many people can’t get any.
Allstate is pulling out of the state, State Farm is not renewing policies.

https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2024-03-23/state-farm-wont-renew-72-000-insurance-policies-in-california-worsening-the-states-insurance-crisis#:~:text=The%20companies%20have%20cited%20high,back%20policies%20in%20the%20state.

I wouldn’t pay off the mortgage since my insurance was thru CalVet, the lien holder and if I paid it off I would have to find my own.

21st Century started a new company just for Calif Drivers called ‘Toggle’ you actually have to go thru 21st Century to get to it.. Luckily I only had to deal with them for 1 month before we qualified for insurance in Idaho.

I hear it is almost as bad in Florida.

Meanwhile our premiums go up to help cover the lost income even as they lessen claims…

Yup,
They said that they have to ‘spread the risk’ over the entire state. That means the safe and sane people have to prop up the idiots.

Sounds fair.
