If you recall it had developed an electrical leak that no one could find which caused me to put it on a “battery tender”….
Well, it turns out that the electrical leak was likely caused by a faulty switch on the seat motor (move the seat backward and forward)…it wanted to stay on and eventually burned out the seat motor. That motor has now been replaced along with the switch, and now it has no more electrical drain.
Would you like to buy it? I will let you have it for blue book price.

Things have changed.
Because of the weather forecast, the Vikings have:
Canceled Monday’s night practice at TCO Stadium.
Rescheduled it for Aug. 12.
Moved players’ off day from Tuesday to Monday.
Scheduled a normal practice for Tuesday.
Thunderstorms with lightening possible I understand.
Unless they use Cine as a lightening rod it could be ‘not good’.
They are going with ‘better safe than sorry’.

So we finally got all of the money moved around, checks cleared, etc and went in to the local branch to pay off the mortgage here on Friday.
A lot more work that one would think. It took us over and hour, they had to make lots of phone calls to find out how to go thru the process, they hadn’t done it before.
For instance we found out that even though we had the funds in the same bank, different account we had to buy Cashiers Checks (2) from the one account and apply them to the mortgage account to pay it off.
Finally got it done and then they wanted us to meet with a ‘Financial Manager’. Since we planned on getting one we set up and appointment. It will be a couple of months before we get an actual deed.
I plan on just mailing a $150,000 check in the mail.
Can’t be that hard to cash it.
The Teacher checked with the bank (Chase) before the fact and was advised to do it in person.
Don’t know if it was actually required but we went with that as we were out and about anyway.
I can see that trusting some random nobody in Phoenix with a large payoff check could be trouble for some intern getting fleeced at Chase.
Guy got right on the phone once he got all the IDs and told them ‘I have them right in front of me with multiple identifications and they answered all the security questions correctly’.
I looked at The Teacher and said, “If some random stranger wanted to come in a pay off our mortgage I would be ok with that”. No need for all of that as far as I was concerned.
“So we finally got all the money moved around” – didn’t see a deposit in my checking.
It was returned with a ‘fraud alert’ notice.
Maybe it will go better next time.
Will be interesting to see if the Financial Advisor suggests taking out a mortgage.

We both have stocks covered in our 401s, conservative ones along with treasury bonds and such. Even they are probably taking a beating today but we don’t need to cash out anytime soon and so we can ride it out.
Looking to diversify probably with municipal bonds as they are exempt from state taxes in Idaho along with the Federal ones.
Would guess regardless of current events an advisor will say look at the picture long term and when stocks are down, good time to buy.

They also have something called a Premium Deposit Account that is designed for large balances that lose money in traditional account vs inflation.

I don’t remember such drama paying off our mortgage. Lucky you! I think BoA was carrying the mortgage, emailed them and asked what the payoff amount would be on July 1st or whatever, wired that amount to them from our local bank on that day. I don’t even remember signing anything.
I payed off the Calif house mid July but that was handled by the escrow company.
This was the only time doing it in person, seemed ‘over the top’ to me but it’s a national bank and I believe they were doing the right thing per their bank’s policies.
Waisted Saturday at an auction right across the crick from where I live. Guy is moving into town due to age and somewhat recent widower. Sold his entire life in one day. Sad. He had more tools than Harbor Freight. Had a logging company at one time. Tractors, trucks, side by sides an excavators. Anyhow the truck I was bidding on went for $6k over book, and I was willing to go $2k on a 8x8x40′ shipping container. It went for 25 stink’n bux. Had to be out by Wednesday and arrangements I made to move it for next week. They did not mention prior to auction on the need to move post haste.

I found out in Texas that you have to be careful with rural auctions like that.
You can come home with lots of stuff you don’t really need.
I am sure are much smarter than me and didn’t do that.
Didn’t buy a thing, not so much my wife.
There was so many cool, interesting things (small items) that I had to get at such a good price.
I stopped going once I realized that I didn’t ‘need’ any of that stuff. Being in the Army and there just a few years I had space issues to boot.
I’m still sad I didn’t get that medium sized tractor that was auctioned at the neighbors. Book on that was about $16K, I hoped to get it for 12…we stopped bidding at 22 and it went for 26.
Then I look at the price of a new 4 or 5 series in JD green. Yikes!
So in hindsight you would have paid 26k or more for the used one at auction?
No. It was an off brand that isn’t made anymore, need to get parts from Massey (which is not local), had very few hours on it and no maintenance records so taking a flyer on a 25 year old tractor that might need work.
Funny part of that was I was initially bidding on it, when it went to 13 I stepped back, my wife asked what I was willing to pay for it, and I said well I suppose I would go as high as 18. She uncharacteristically was the one that bid 22…the guy that bought it had come up with a trailer specifically to buy that tractor from Broadus and when we asked his wife she said he was going home with that tractor no matter what.
Sometimes you just have to accept the will of the auction.
I did get a nice 60 inch trail mower I do the ditches with for $900. I had to replace the belts, tune the engine, and put in a new oil filler piece but it runs great.
There are certainly some gems at those actions, they can be fun as well.
I would be careful taking The Teacher to an auction as she can be a bit of a hoarder (as we learned prepping for the move). I doubt she would find much to bid on during a ‘farm auction’ though. I might check around and find one nearby to attend.
Bought the wife a new holland 35 horse with 4 hours on it in 2021. Tractor was a 2018 but dealer out of central MT said he couldn’t sell because all the area ranchers switched to New Brighton. Thought that was weird.
$25 for a shipping container. Holy cow. I paid $9 large for our second one, where we kept our belongings for two years.
I know, guy that bought it had some type of lift and put it on back of his logging truck.
The local company that sells them, at least at the time we got both of ours, used a long flatbed trailer towed behind a 1 ton p/u, and used some battery powered winch from Harbor Freight with steel cable either connected to the front or run underneath the trailer to the back to load and unload them. That poor winch sounded and smelled like it was getting a workout, but the process worked.

We bought the first one shortly after we built the shouse in 2019, as at that time the shouse was a place to store toys (like our motorhome) and to stay on weekends and such when we visited. I needed a place to keep the various accoutrements like lawnmower, snowthrower, chainsaw, tools etc out of the elements and out of sight of any curious passerbys. Still keep all sorts of things like the zero turn mower, snowblower, spare irrigation hose, shovels, buckets, gas, diesel etc in that one depending on the season.
When my employer surprised us by giving us a week to move here in November of 2021, we knew we would have to build an addition on to the shouse and needed a place to store the furniture from our home in Billings. We could have rented one but since they are virtually indestructible they are kind of nice to have around. That one sits pretty empty and I have had people ask if I’m interested in selling it, but I’m sure they would want a deal I’m not willing to give.
TL;DR yeah they are far from a necessity but they are nice to have around if you have the space.
Take that empty one and bury it in preparation for the impending apocalypse. It might be too late though.
I think those containers are not strong enough to withstand the hydraulic pressure of the surrounding earth. When the walls implode while watching the 6 o’clock news that might be a problem.

I think that is the only injury he’s ever had so it’s just him being paranoid and it has made him focus on preparation and recovery more.
I have known some super fast-twitch athletes whose college careers have ended due to multiple hammys. Once they got the first injury they just keep getting re-injured regardless of how much training and prevention they attempted.
Since JJ is a Viking I am certain this will be his fate.

People nowadays have forgotten (or never learned) how bad it was in the U.K. and the rest of Europe in WWII. Hitler was close to completely taking over all of it. Lots of very brave people fought this maniac, to save their countries.
my degree is in History emphasis on WW2, and i am really disgusted and saddened at how many people know very little about the war and how many things had to happen as perfectly as they could, to stop what hitler was doing.
it’s my dream to make it to europe one day to see everything over there.

3 years of being stationed in Berlin in the early 80s cemented what happened there to me. The Wall was still up and lots of damage was still visible.
Hess in Spandau Prison, my platoon did a guard rotation there.
Wall Runs, My unit, 2nd Battalion 6th Infantry, would do dawn runs along the wall with East Germans in their towers watching us.
Seeing all the crosses on The Wall memorizing people who had died trying to cross over.
Tours/classes on all the things The Nazi’s did, the real ones not the people FJB accuses of being one.
Going thru Check Point Charlie into East Berlin, those people had it rough and it was considered a jewel of the USSR.
So much, it was pretty overwhelming much of the time.
I’ve spent an hour each of the last two nights looking on 4 different streaming services for a good movie I haven’t seen yet. Haven’t found one.

For those of you who don’t know, the DoD spends tens of millions of dollars annually on Critical Race Theory (CRT) and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) programs throughout the armed forces and cadets at the nation’s military academies receive extensive training about racism, sexism, unconscious bias, and intersectionality.
This indoctrination has always irked me, as the woke leadership has gotten worse and worse throughout my career. I firmly believe in equality, and liberty and justice for all, I don’t believe in DEI or CRT. Basically the message is if you are white (especially an older white male) you are a terrible human being.
I have watched the spiraling decline of our military into this liberal driven morass for the last two decades. I am so saddened by all of this. Our job is to support and defend the Constitution, against all enemies, foreign and domestic. Not participate in the social engineering efforts of the left.

The “good Germans” and “good Americans” are the ones that are stand outs or in a place of power. They are the ones that silently endorse it by either being quiet or voting for their own pocketbook or endorsing it because it is the popular opinion.

It surprises me how people will participate in cultural redefinition without looking at the long term consequences of their actions. If people want long term positive equality, then they would not do it by trying to destroy one section of the society, but would do it by lifting up everyone. Also, if you want long term positive equality then you have to realize that not everyone is equal in every sense. Not everyone can play NFL football is an obvious statement, but not everyone can be the head of the Secret Service is also a very true statement. Not everyone has the physical, mental and fortitude to be a police officer. While we are all equal in a humanity sort of sense, we are not all equal in every aspect of life. Just because I am equal with you does not mean that I can do everything that you do, or get paid as much as you, or get as much media attention as you, or be adored by everyone as much as you.

This is where socialism and communism comes in to make it fair.

If there was “true” socialism or communism, there is a chance of fairness. Where in this world have you seen true communism? In this world it is just monarchism in disguise. A few people have power and the rest are “equal”.
In the end, Communism is in direct opposition to human nature. People aspire to be unique, compete, and revel in their individualism. Communism aspires to destroy all that. Individuality? No.
There are some people that enjoy being part of a commune. However, true communism would allow people that do not want to be a part of it to leave. In this world, communism in large scale has never been about true equality, but it has always been about ruling with an iron fist.

In Acts, the first church operated on a share everything basis. It didn’t work either because someone always wants more of something (Ananias and Saphira). And someone still has to be in charge (Peter). My point is that it will not work in this world because a government is made up of people and because of people, it won’t work.

Rained all night, gonna rain all day. Winds blew out a panel on the Lanai, and had two very brief power interruptions last night. Winds gusted to over 60 mph, and we have lots of debris laying around. My sister and wife are safe and secure, as are the cats. Feel sorry for the folks that have to walk their dogs, but so far we’re fine.
