Team looked very good in the second preseason game. I know it was preseason, but it was still encouraging. The team is reportedly signing Gilmore to a 1-year contract. We need the CB depth, for sure. One more practice game, then the real fun starts. Cine showed up for a change.

FTP, and they looked terrible last night. Although, they rested most starters. The Bears look like serious contenders, at least on defense. Bo Nix also looked very good. I wanted to be wrong about him since I hate his head coach, but he looks very good so far.

Why must Republicans run their mouths so much. All gong public telling the world how Trump is screwing up and how he should be running a campaign. And most all are seond stringers or ‘never was ers’. If they have something to say, pick up the phone and shut up on national TV.

Also, DNC released the platform with Biden’s name still on many items.

“President Biden, Vice President Harris, and Democrats are running to finish the job. To grow our economy from the middle out and bottom up, not the top down,” the opening preamble states.

I’m quite sure all the news coming out around the DNC convention is 100% accurate, just like all the news coming out around the RNC convention was 100% accurate with no bias on interpretation and reporting of that info. Like how Grinder usage was up A LOT to the point it crashed during the RNC Convention which absolutely means Repubs are all gay and looking to bang. Only logical conclusion. Don’t worry the same ding bat Dems that believed that crap (don’t get me wrong the memes are funny, just like the couch memes haha!), are the same ones who will refute anything negative coming out of the DNC convention.

I honestly don’t know which you are talking about. The DNC isn’t organized they just did what they should have done from the start which was get the old timey fuck out of there and put someone in there people could be excited about (don’t get me wrong here, I am not saying I like Kama-Jama, but she’s not a geriatric patient). I don’t call that organized and if you are saying the Pubs are the organized ones, I also don’t understand your thinking there. They might be sans Trump but right now Trump IS the RNC sadly.

The Teacher had explained that her wedding (right out of HS) was organized by her mom and her ex’s mom. She had practically no say in it.
So when she agreed to marry me and she asked about the wedding I told her ‘as big or small as you would like’.
She chose to elope, we didn’t tell anyone until after the fact. Of course 2nd for both of us, the photographer was the witness.

Confirmation that I ‘chose wisely’ IMHO.

We had ours in our backyard (actually across the street from the hospital I’m sitting in right now). I invited my sister and parents, plus my best man and his wife. That was my wedding party. Maid of honor was my stepdaughter. I think about 40 people showed up.

It was a perfect day.

I was watching the condensed version so didn’t hear any protracted discussion from the announcers. Seemed odd to me.

One of the hardest things in football has to be when a punter jams a punt more or less straight up and the ball is coming down right in the middle of the playground, where all the blockers and coverage is concentrated in a ball. I can see a high risk high reward scenario where a play is set up that way by design. Coverage sneaks a peek at the arc of the ball and steers blockers into the area hoping for a carom off the receiving team.

well looking at his first draft, SWING AND A MISS. our first 3 picks are safe to say have been busts. The best player in that draft for the vikings might be Nailor. a 6th round pick…

2023 Draft, Addison is obviously good, Blackman we were hoping was going to be good (i don’t fault injuries on Kwesi)….nothing else really…

2024, JJ dropped into our laps thanks to Atlanta. Glad we got Turner but gave up quite a bit for him (could be a STUD), but we now have 3 draft picks for 2025….

He seems to have done a better job with Undrafted Free Agents (and honestly i put more on his coaching staff/scouting staff, for those than Kwesi himself) than he seems to do in the actual draft….

I just think he’s in over his head. Doesn’t mean he hasn’t done some good things. I know alot of guys here love that he isn’t extending over the hill players and kicking the can down the road. that is a good thing. but again, i’m not so sure thats ALL ON kwesi.

Anyways, those are my thoughts on it.

well, when you put it that way….

i guess i have a hard time believing that an NFL GM has his eyes on undrafted players. I would imagine alot of those types of guys, are being scouted by the scouting staff. perhaps Kwesi really has his eyes on that second level talent, actually, now that i’m typing it out, that makes sense he does, because he sure seems to suck at finding 1st level talent in the actual draft…..

bowbunch

Reply to  freezeyface
19 August 2024 8:54 am

Even the high draft picks are made based on what the scouts tell him. Where he comes in on the UDFAs is convincing them to come to MN over going somewhere else. There’s been a couple that had competing offers and they chose MN because Kwesi didn’t low ball them and was able to sell them on MN.

bowbunch

I give him half of a pass on the first draft. It was his first draft and was with Zim and Rick’s scouting staff. If the drafts didn’t seem to be getting better year to year then I would be more concerned. Getting Turner and JJ was a huge win and they might have got a gem in Rodriguez too.

Only until JJ gets healthy. I am still not sold on Love. He may be solid, but I’m not convinced middle of the pack isn’t his ceiling, but we’ll see. Goff has grown and the Lions have a solid roster that will start needing big money so we’ll see how they manage that. I’ve seen a lot of overblown hype on Caleb and I don’t think the way he’s playing is going to translate long term but there’s a lot to be seen there.

JRobert

But he really didn’t have to go this route. I’m sold on Love and think as much if JJ turns out Caleb will also, and Caleb is more talented overall.
And then there’s picking up the injury prone Z.Smith and the Coach.
Here’s my thinking as a rank dumb fan.. We won division in 22 if Cousins hadn’t gotten hurt last year believe we would again or been very close. We beat the Packers and no way Cousins throws 6 interceptions against the Lions.
Last year, I would have signed Cousins three years at 37 mil, and also drafted JJ this year. Also would have worked hard last year to keep Hunter.
Perhaps this route is a little slower, but al least we’re not going to be fourth in the division for a couple of years.

Mullens was his typical self, missing on almost half his passes but still completed some great throws for 135 yards and a TD. He is one of the most frustrating QB’s to watch. One second he’s lighting it up, the next, he’s chucking it all over the place.

Missed the game but watched highlights. Seems like they have him rolling out to right by design a fair amount of time. Not sure why though as we want defenses to have to cover the entire field.

Rolling a QB out, while running the old 77 routes, gives him a little more time, and a chance to see the field, and the two receivers in the route pattern, a little better. The defense does have to cover the whole field initially, so while rolling out “condenses the field” for the defense, they’re still playing assignment football. You’re playing for the receivers to fit themselves into two windows. The window between the CB and linebacker, and the window between the linebacker and the safety.

True enough. But I thought the essence of McVay’s offense ( KOC too) is to ‘make’ the defense cover all nine quadrants, strech the defense from sideline to sideline, short to long, and then. hit WR in the weak area of the defense. When. rolling to the right with someone chasing you, pretty hard to throw much of a ball across your body back to the other side of field.

JJ leaves the line with JA in the slot beside him. Both are 8 yards down the field. At that point, and this is just one side of the formation, the defense has to protect a lot of the field – flys, posts, flags, crosses and drags.

Treadwell went 7 catches for 72 yards this weekend.

Did he just equal his entire pro output in a single day?

He pulled a Cine?

AKA One good day against 3rd and 4th stringers.

Missed the game but watched some highlights on the interweb. I also read the game thread comments on this site, sounded like a decent outing for the Vikes.

The Vikings offense and defense looked solid. Really not bad, but of course they sat all the starters as did the Browns. Still, we won handily so it was a fun watch. No idea why we threw Corrall out there at the end.

Perhaps there can be a Super Bowl ll – for the team with the best second stringers?

KOC said he wanted to ‘make sure we got Matt out there’ because he has been ‘that guy before’.

Question come about 7:15 into the video.

I didn’t see the game. I got a rotisserie chicken instead.

I actually enjoyed the game Saturday. It was nice to see Cine figure it out, even though it was against backups. I was not a fan of throwing Corall to the wolves like we did.

QotD: Should KOC give up play calling and let Wes Phillips do his job?

I’m not in the camp that Cine did anything particularly well….

Also trade him, his stock could NEVER be higher than it is right now

It was a fun game to watch, team did well. Maybe Philips should get more influence when it comes to play calling, good job IMHO. Don’t know what they were thinking throwing Corall out there, didn’t like that decision.

i am not going to put much thought into the 2nd preseason game 2nd and 3rd string offense vs the 2nd and 3rd string defense.

that being said, wes phillips constantly looks hungover to me. is that my bias showing since he got a DUI? maybe.

This woman has no business running for President of the United States. A ham sandwich is better than her.

While I am not defending her, if a police officer could just say you were intoxicated, there would be no need for a breathalyzer. I kind of dislike when people try to analyze stuff like this via video. Often it is just a person’s bias showing through.
On the other hand, maybe she is just not qualified to be president because she is just not qualified. And sounds weird.

There’s been a growing number of reports about her having a drinking problem and a breathalyzer is not actually needed. An arrest for DUI is not made based on BAC. In fact, until fairly recently a PBT was not even admissible in court and may not be still in some states.

I really don’t know anything about this since I don’t drink, so it is not something I study. However, I’m pretty certain that in court there has to be some proof that a person was drunk versus just a police officer saying that the person looked and sounded drunk.
Again, I am not defending her and I’ve heard the reports that she has a drinking problem. Alcoholism is a difficult problem to beat and an active alcoholic shouldn’t be running our country.

Standard Field Sobriety Tests are what is used to determine intoxication and an arrest/no arrest decision. I think there are a couple of PBTs that can be used now in the field but I’m not sure on that from state to state. A breathalyzer is typically taken, but can be refused. Depending on the state you are in (implied or assumed consent) blood may be taken if the breathalyzer is refused. While a BAC is typical, it is not necessary.

What is included in a Standard Field Sobriety Test?

Eye nostagmus (this is the main one. The others can be “practiced” and passed under intoxication. An experienced DRE can usually tell what the BAC is here and will also be able to determine if the impairment is from something other than alcohol.), walk and turn, one leg stand

The Coast Guard also has approved methods that can be conducted on the water. Nystagmus is still one, then there is a counting one and alphabet one.

The legalese on the issue is you will be arrested if you register .08 BAC, but you can also be arrested if you show impairment and have any amount of alcohol or illicit substance in your bloodstream.

I would imagine you wouldn’t be arrested, but maybe made to undergo driver testing again if you drive with impairment and have zero illicit substance in your blood……..

.08 is the amount for WI. Not sure of other states.

bowbunch

.08 is the official limit in all 50 states, but the language allows for arrest under impairment. Also, as I said, the actual BAC is not typically known until after the arrest has been made unless you have an approved PBT and your state allows that. I don’t know the rules anymore, but as of a few years ago a PBT was not admissible in court. The statutes usually say something like a breathalyzer reading over .04, within a certain time frame, is assumed to have been .08 at the time of arrest. The breathalyzer is simply an additional piece of evidence furthering the arrest that was already made on probable cause of impairment.

The scary part is that the woke’s identity politics have allowed her to get as close as she is.

She’s only a figurehead. We know Biden isn’t running the country currently.

What a glorious choice for our first female president. All the amazing women out there and she gets the nod.

I was hoping Condoleezza Rice would have run in 2008, I would have voted for her.

Even though she is a life long Cleveland Browns fan and was even rumored to be in running to be for their head coaching job in 2018.
