VIKINGS NEWS
Gameday. Should be interesting to watch Hall and see if he can play like an NFL QB in his second season.

94 yard pick 6 for the Bronco’s against the Cardinals.
Saw this:
10 different NFL starting QBs went the entire preseason without throwing a pass:
Kirk Cousins
Jared Goff
Justin Herbert
Jalen Hurts
Lamar Jackson
Kyler Murray
Dak Prescott
Aaron Rodgers
Matthew Stafford
Deshaun Watson
Basically one third of the starters. Coaches afraid of losing their QB1 in the preseason to injury.
They all got Reps in practice and veteran enough to ‘know the game’ so as to have minimal rust.
Seems more like a CYA thing though, if a coach played his starting QB in preseason and said QB got injured that coach would immediately be on the ‘hot seat’ I suspect.
I watched Lawrence play a lot in preseason, and he did a great job. I personally don’t think it’s a good idea to sit starters during preseason. I think you need some warm up games, to synch things up, OR see what needs to be changed/adjusted. Going into the regular season “cold” and then finding out your plans aren’t working, immediately puts you behind the power curve.
Oh I can agree that it would better prepare the QB for the upcoming season.
I just believe that the most HCs are ‘risk adverse’ and are not willing to expose an established QB.
Totally agree. I guess we’ll see what happens.
Zach Wilson lighting it up in Denver. 16/25 for 251 yards and a 123.9 passer rating.
Didn’t see this game today, but almost a kick-6.
Great hustle on the kicking team player trying to make the Titans roster.
They will probably label him ‘The Goat’ for his preseason play.
Silly
I saw the play as it occurred. Crazy.
Almost 1200 players will be cut by Tuesday, with 512 players coming back on practice squads. Busy times.
So will Hall be on roster or practice squad?
Roster as emergency QB 3 i think.
I think he played well enough where some team might sign him if he is cut. Close call. Could go either way.
Twinkies go into the 9th up 2-1.
They bring in their closer who quickly gives up 2 runs on 3 hits.
They lose the game 3-2 and the series 2-1. grrrr
Thats an oversimplification. Duran induced all ground balls, and Julien threw the ball away on a would be double play. Two errors lost that game, not Duran.
I honestly believe that in order to get clicks ‘experts’ come up with some outlandish options and then try to find some/any arguments to support that options.
Logic be damned!

Indeed
That game was on where I live – watched a little. Simply put, Hooker ain’t got it and this writer needs to find a new profession.
Rattler getting lots of love in the Saints vs the Titans game.

Fantasy Foosballs Draft Day!
One of my favorite days of the year. Year 20 of this league. We’ve had members go from single men to family men, some married and divorced and married again. 2 with kids in college this year that weren’t born the year we started. We kicked out one complete D-bag (after yours truly physically removed him from the draft 4 years ago for being a belligerent nutball) and had another beloved member pass away.
I’m the breadwinner of this league – 5 total championships (including 3 of the last 4 years) – and I let these boys know it every day on the Sleeper app.
We’re a ‘keeper’ league now and today is a 12 round Rookie/Vet FA draft. I’m loaded up early with picks 1.03, 1.06, 2.07 and I’m likely going Jayden Daniels/Caleb Williams at 1.03 and hoping to land Rome Odunze at 1.06 – I’ll load up on rookies early, hoping to strike gold. I’ve got a sneaky plan to land JJ McCarthy in the later rounds and stash him for next year.
My buddy (and this year’s champion) is hosting at his place in tiny Dwight, Nebraska. His man cave is the old town grocery store. Has the place fit with a nice private courtyard in the back with fans, tv’s and a water-misting system he designed himself. Inside is decked out with TV’s everywhere (15 at last count, including 1 in the bathroom) a custom poker table, couches, barber chairs and a shitload of football memorabilia. Best man-cave I’ve ever seen. He’s doing brisket, hot-links, pulled pork and cornbread. I intend on stuffing my face (I haven’t eaten sloppily in a long, long time – can’t wait) and drafting an unbeatable roster that haunts my league mates for years to come……
Had a drink with an old friend and soon to be ex-roommate last night. We laughed, we cried, we fought, we made up – shit got a little weird…..
Enjoy your Sunday everyone!

Sam Darnold the #1 pick?
Lol….. it’ll be Marvin Harrison Jr….
Sounds Epic.
White House NSC spokesperson Sean Savett: “President Biden is closely monitoring events in Israel and Lebanon. He has been engaged with his national security team throughout the evening. At his direction, senior U.S. officials have been communicating continuously with their Israeli counterparts. We will keep supporting Israel’s right to defend itself, and we will keep working for regional stability”.
I really doubt Biden is all that involved. The NSC is running this show.
Oh come on. Joe’s the sharpest guy in the room and all the young folks just can’t keep up with him.
Laughing… silly me, of course you’re right!
‘He has been engaged with his national security team throughout the evening.’
Past his bedtime, once he gets his nappy changed and told he is winning the election Jill tucks him into bed and looks for Hunter to do something more interesting.
Hall looked good yesterday, in his second season in KOC’s offense, but there were far more timing routes, and far fewer multi read throws. KOC is evolving. Can’t let the QB sit back there and sort through reads while his receivers decide where they’re going, mid-route. Hit that back foot and let it fly. Much better plan.
short term yes. long term would think not.
I can see for Darnold and Hall a simplified Offensive Passing Scheme would be more better. A short term fix.
Mullins can work with the old/more complex system and hopefully JJ will be there by the time he is healthy and ready to play again.
Honestly, I don’t think you’ll see JJ playing decently in that scheme until year three. He has a lot to learn.
His rep is as ‘a smart, hard worker’, he will have close to year to study, observe, and watch first hand at the table with the OC, QB coach and KOC.
I am thinking/hoping that they take all of the opportunities to get him all the info that in order for him to prove that rep is correct. If he is ‘just adequate’ in year two and blossoms in year 3 I will count that as a win.
I know all that, but mastering KOC’s scheme is a three year process. Cousins was just starting to “get it” a little bit when he injured his Achilles. Mahomes couldn’t read defenses fully until his fourth year.
So it would have taken that long with or without the injury, it is more a mental thing than a physical one. Obviously more practice and game reps are vial as well.
We will just have to do that Viking fan thing and ‘Hope for the best but expect the worst’.
Reps are definitely needed, because seeing and feeling the throws under duress, has to occur. He can learn, academically the plays, and the scheme, piece by piece, but it’s seeing a real NFL defense playing against you, and disrupting routes and throwing lanes, and of course pressuring you, all while you’re going through reads and progressions, that makes the difference. It takes thousands of reps for the offense to become instinctive.
Of course he will have to play ‘in that offense’ for ‘that offense’ to become instinctive.
So learn as much as possible interacting with the staff, get practice reps in once he is healthy enough to do so, then start with ‘game like’ reps in training (1s vs 1s) and real game practice in preseason next year and then to start the season.
Its the closest thing to a plan we have currently.
Would think everyone is different and finds his own course – some longer, some shorter.
Some never… McCarthy has the tools. He can get there for sure, given time. But year three in an offense is when it all starts to click. If you get to year four, five, or six, then the QB is gonna look like a God.
You mention tools – makes me wonder (just thinking). Would not say Brady, Manning, or Brees had great physical “tools.” All were very smart and I don’t know how to evaluate that.
But I also think, beyond mental, they throw a very accurate ball ‘with anticipation.’
All those QB’s were extremely accurate passers, and high speed processors.
And that’s why they were great -“accurate with anticipation.”
it’s definitely the plan, but thinking McCarthy (or any QB) can come in and master an offense in one year, isn’t possible. Brady had three OC’s in 20 years with the Patriots. He mastered the offenses because he had years in them. He had the same OC for his last eight seasons, BTW. He was completely instinctive (not thinking) when running the offense.
Agreed, we are a long from ‘instinctive/Brady lvl’ of QB play.
I am just hopeful that with ‘the plan’ we will get competent play next year (2nd in the system/offense) and continued progression after that.
Ummm what? Says who? Thats blatantly false.
Said Mahomes
https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/patrick-mahomes-reveals-he-didnt-know-how-to-read-defenses-until-halfway-through-last-year/
It’s blatantly true. Never question me son. Stay on the porch.
This is. no big deal one way or the other.
But there’s an article on SI about this – easily googled. Also reference to an upcoming HBO series where he talks about it.
Since they’re talking to Mahomes, and quoting him, I’m guessing it it Mahomes himself saying it.
Yesterday’s game was fun to watch. Maybe in 14 days, we can replicate that performance, and stomp the Giants in their stadium.
Pablo goes 7 innings of shutout ball and the bullpen doesn’t implode so the Twinkies win 6-0 vs St Louis.
0-6 on 4th down for the Eagles now. Is that a record?
Gives us a little hope for the regular season.
#nojinx
Reichard from 57!!!!
That kid looks like the real deal. Hope he doesn’t turn into Blair Walsh at some point.

56 yard field goal is good!!!! 26-3 good guys!!!
57 yard FG. Sweet.
26-3, just over 2m left.
Great minds.
You and JacksonVike?
Laughing… “us” and JacksonVike…
Eagles 0 for 5 on 4th down today.
Another 4th down fail be the Poopeaters.
It does my old heart good to see it.
#nojinx
Nice interception in the end zone to stop the Eagles drive. Still 23-3.
Red Zone Interception, nice.
Goodonya Jay Ward.
Poopeaters must hate their 1st round pick DeJean, he’s coming off a knee injury and they keep playing him. Even on a punt return.
I had hoped we could find a way to get him but it was not to be.
I guess they believe he needs the reps to be ready for week 1.
Another 4th down fail by the Poopeaters.
Is that the 3rd or 4th so far this game?
#nojinx
Decent stop on 4th and 6.
Been used to us giving those 4th and long the last few years.
Closer than I would have liked but will take it.
Short punt for Wright, only 26 yards.
Did he shank it?
Thought he was looking better than last year?
Strange thing here in Idaho. Almost no gas stoves, I would have to run a separate gas line and order a gas stove special in order to get one.
That also means when there is a power outage there is no cooking with an electric stove. We are used to being able to cook even with a Calif power falling on it’s face often.
So we got a new Propane BBQ yesterday so we have options. 5 burner with one on the side. Home Depot sent as a 15% coupon when we moved here so we used it on the grill. Was tightening up the screws and bolts, hooking up and testing the propane, wiping it down and covering with a tarp as we had thunderstorms just yesterday afternoon.
Not sure how it is everywhere else but best I can remember this is the first place I’ve been with almost no gas stoves.
20-3 first half.
Guess we will see what Corral can do with a week with the team in the 2nd half.
15 first downs, 228 total yards on four drives, and 20 points. Really good!
#nojinx
Possessed the ball over 10 minutes longer than the Eagles in the first half.
Decent Defense, especially the hold on 4th and 1.
Great first half, both sides of the ball.
Vikings have looked good in preseason.
unfortunately it means nothing.
True, but better than the alternative.
I will enjoy each and every time we beat the Poopeaters, even in meaningless games.
#nojinx
Fun game to watch so far, Hall looks good.
Jaren Hall finally got the TD pass to his ‘brother’ Justin Hall on the 3rd attempt.
17-3 good guys. 3m left in the half.
Hall is officially looking good. When the O-line holds up, he can deliver.
Poopeaters have a decent drive against the ‘bend don’t break’ defense and have to settle for a FG.
I just got the game to work on my phone. I have an NFL+ account, but couldn’t get it to play on my laptop. Then I saw the little note: “Phones and Tablets”
Was trying to get a few things done around the house before the game.
I either took longer than I thought or you guys started early without me.
So far, so good from what I can see.
#nojinx
Forced fumble, Vikings ball!
YAY!!!
Got a Field Goal out of the turnover, not bad. Let’s see if the defense can stop the poop eaters again.
TD pass for Hall! 7-0 good guys!
Hall had some ups and downs during that drive, but looked okay overall.
Good… needs the reps.
That he did. Got a bit lucky that the INT came back, but the penalty seemed legit. Looked like the INT didn’t bother Hall, played well after that.
My sister wants to watch the Packers, so I’m just following the game om ESPN online.
LOL, Hall gets lucky.
Justin Thomas with a 403 yard drive on the par 4, 529 yard 10th hole. They’re playing in Colorado so “mile high” air. Still a hell of a poke.
Then he spins a sand wedge approach back off the green into the water.
Skol Vikings!
Always!
Looks like a good man to have on your side.
And a bad man to have on the ‘other side’.
Yup, indeed.
Heres to an injury free game.
And a chance for the ‘end of roster’ players to have a decent chance to showcase their skills.
A win over the Poopeaters would the 3rd priority IMHO.
I guess Hall gets a little bit of an opportunity here to show what he’s got, but I’m thinking the 3rd string O-line won’t give him much help.
‘the 3rd string O-line won’t give him much help’
Will have to say a prayer or 3 for him.
But our 3rd string line isn’t too much worse than our 1st string IOL and they have the advantage of facing the Poopeaters 3rd string defense.
That’s sound logic. I’m thinking our second and third stringers are the best in the league. As such, Hall may have a great game and we win big.
It may very well be that decent FA and UDFA linemen are willing to sign here knowing that they are about as good as our IOL and so have a good chance of sticking on the roster.
There’s that too.
He had a perfect passer rating last week, what more do you want?
He completed 4 of 5 passes for 87 yards. One of them went for 71 yards and a TD. Kind of jacked up the rating. I would like to see a nice, 67% completion rate, with 8 yards per attempt (not per completion) and just good solid QB play.
Good morning!
