I’m doing my best with this fantasy league. I’ve gotten emails from several of you & rounded up some other players. It won’t be perfect, but it’ll be fun. I have time to focus on it today.
Random Thoughts from Chiefs-Ravens
- I’m watching the Chiefs-Ravens game. It’s just before halftime, Justin Tucker just missed a field goal, then Mahomes came out & threw an INT. Both happened in the last couple minutes of the first half, quite entertaining.
- The Ravens running game with Derrick Henry AND Lamar is going to be a force this season if they stay healthy.
- The Chiefs defense, however, has prevented them from scoring very much. The Chiefs defense looks improved.
- I had to come out to the garage & watch on mute, my nerves won’t tolerate Collinsworth.
- I’m shocked that the Ravens run Lamar as much as they do and allow him to absorb as much contact as he does. I know that’s part of his game, but I would think that they’d want him to slide instead of absorbing contact just to get an extra couple yards. Injury is probably the only thing that can slow down Lamar, you’d think they’d try harder to avoid that.

The Vikings restructured TJ Hockenson’s contract in order to free up more cap space, according to Sports Illustrated. This is interesting, might the Vikings be preparing to make a move? Pull off a trade? Maybe try to upgrade an important position? Hey kfey, do you think they might try to make a deal with the Falcons to bring back Cousins to man the ship until McCarthy’s ready? Are you on board with that move or no?
From Erik Strack at minnesotasportsfan.com, Cam Bynum is taking his time in approaching an extension with the Vikings. The Vikings would like to get a deal done now, while Bynum seems to want to play this year out and cash in on a large deal. I think this shows that the kid believes in himself & his abilities, I like the approach. BUT, if he gets injured this year, he’ll regret waiting, I suppose.

The NFL recently sent a memo to more than 20 players and the teams that they play for, emphasizing the importance of safety and sportsmanship and warning them that they would face suspensions if there are any violations.

Is that the recovery time for regular people or professional athletes with all the training, PT, and medical staff available for rehab?
No idea, but just because you’re a great athlete with great trainers and medical staff, it doesn’t mean your body heals that much quicker.
I don’t know. When I had my knee replacement went thru rehab with a pro golfer (senior tour). My insurance paid for rehab 3 times a week. I made a great recovery – like at the 98 percentile. This guy went to rehab twice a day and had machines at home for streching etc. At four weeks mark, he was a month a head of me and I was doing really well.
Sometimes they have advantages. And there’s new stuff like these plasma shots, but I don’t know much about them and the ordinary guy’s not getting them.

Do political yard signs really change anyone’s mind? Or is it more of like putting up football signage in your yard so people know what team you root for?

We have a 7 foot Vikings inflatable that will go up Sunday & stay up until after the season finale in February.
Hey, I’m gonna pull a minor GF this year. When the electricians came out to wire the addition, they asked about putting an outlet in the soffit for Christmas lights. My wife – hahaha no. Two months later – she called them to put in an outlet.
4 strings of LEDs that I will attach to the soffits, each 100 feet long. The controller is wifi enabled and you can do little themes on their app. They are meant to be permanent. I was going to rent one of those goddawful expensive man lifts but chose to buy a 24′ extension ladder, which I will need to reach the underside of the peaks of the shop. 400 feet of lights and a 24′ ladder, what could possibly go wrong?
Man lift is well worth the cost, those things are awesome. We worked out of the big 125′ jib booms down south. A little 40′ would be perfect for Chrstmas lights, I’m gonna rent one this year.
Yeah, but then there is storage and upkeep etc EDIT oh I see you said rent. I will say two items I would love is a slightly larger tractor, say a 4 series JD, with a cab…and a skidsteer. My wife’s ex got a L95, that takes all the Bobcat attachments but is much bigger. Still ended up using the Bobcat for the majority of our latest 1/4 mile fencing project cuz it is faster to position and much less tippy on slopes.
Bobcat is at the top of my equipement wish list.
They’re just so darn versatile. They’re built around the FEL so are super strong. A tractor with a FEL is no match for a Bobcat, tractors are made for pulling things not picking them up.
I was very disappointed to see what putting up a political sign in my neighborhood did.
First of all, my “pro-life for trump” sign sliced, diced, or straight up stolen, I think I bought a dozen that year.
I was smarter both my 6 foot trump sign, I would put it up only when I was home. I didn’t want my wife dealing with idiots if I wasn’t around IF it ever came to that.
TWICE that fall someone took my trash and scattered it all around my yard (no one else’s were bothered, this is what kept me to keep my garbage up next to the house and bring it down on the morning of garbage day vs bringing g it down the night before.
Unfortunately we lost good relationships with neighbors we were enjoyed, since they obviously hated trump. I knew they were on the liberal side the entire time I knew them and my wife and I NEVER let that be a reason to not be loving and neighborly. BUT they would have the “all are welcome here” sign in their yard.
So now, I don’t put any political sign out. My wife had to ask a republican school board member we will for sure vote for, to not put her sign in our yard. We learned the hard way how decisive those things are
I’m n 2020, I seen a Biden/Harris sign in the yard, and a Jeep Liberty for sale in the driveway. I found it quite fitting.

I remember running in Korea and it was cold, once my t-shirt sweated thru and got heavy it chafed and caused a dime sized spot of bleeding over each one.
Upside a couple of female soldiers noticed and wanted to ‘see’ the injury.
Seen that happen to distance runners before, it hasn’t happened to me. I wear breathable shirts on long runs, got that advice & listened.
That was the only time it happened.
I blamed the cold weather once the sun went down, don’t usually run at night in the dark.
I had the chafing happen in high school track when they had those horrible “plastic” shirts with plastic lettering also right in the wrong spots.
I could see that, especially if the stitching is inconveniently placed.
I remember the first time I rode GABR. You have to go full speed on a stationary bike for 20 minutes with zero resistance. You need to coat your….private areas in anti-chafing cream or you will walk around as bow legged as a mule for 3 days after the race. I learned the hard way. It’s like having a 3rd degree diaper rash.
It is always fun when we ‘learn the hard way’.
Pain is the best teacher though.

I’m an extreme type A, very internally motivated. It’s hard for me to relate to someone who bases their self-worth on their salary compared to someone else’s. Seems odd to me.
Yeah, someone asked JJ if he wanted to “break the bank” when he was negotiating his contract. I think JJ answered somewhat light heartedly, but the next thing you know, the headlines were “JJ says he wants to break the bank with new contract”. I felt he got set up there, because that was how the reporter framed the question, not JJ’s actual words.
Still, as Cousins said, it’s not the dollars, it’s what they represent. If you’re the highest paid WR in the league, it says you’re really good, and really respected, and really important.
I’d think a person’s performance would prove this, not his contract.
Well a person is aware of their performance, especially in pro sports. So once they perform, it’s time to get paid. Accolades are nice, but they don’t buy mansions.

Driver is working, Wedge is working…Pulling all of my approach shots….hard to make par when you are consistently 15 yards left of the green.
Pulling approach shots – two ideas. One, don’t try to hit them hard. Firm is Ok but not hard. Second, keep your weight on left side and therefore ahead of your hands at impact.
Will try that 2nd idea…but thinking about not swinging hard just doesn’t work for me…never has.
Difference – big one – between hard and firm.
But “hanging left” usually helps with pulls.
There really is never a good reason to “overswing” with an approach shot…just take an extra club for goodness sakes. I see that a lot “If I nut my 9 iron and can it 143 to the middle of that green”….Why not just hit an 8 iron and don’t overswing???
So true. Most every level of golfer – even a pro – if they pull a 9 iron it is because they tried to hit it too hard. Similarly, if you ‘over club’ you tend to get lazy thru the ball and will push it right.
Another Idea, is to keep the right elbow out away from the body.
This forces you to make a “slice swing” rather than a pull swing.
Hmmmm….this does not seem like sound advice I want to follow….
Actually a pull swing is a slice swing where your hands have squared up…
I think I should do the opposite of what you are saying….
If you want to slice, keep the right elbow away from the body.
If you want to draw, keep the elbow into the body.
Assuming you are a right handed golfer.
That is correct. take a guy that slices his driver from an out to in swing, will hit a 9 iron as a straight pull left. there’s so much loft on a 9 iron that you don’t get much side spin to slice.
Hey NoDak, I have this issue. Routinely pull wedges left. I focus very hard on firm wrists at impact, and swinging inside out.

I don’t know what to think, but if Sam doesn’t play at a high level… we’ll lose a lot this year.
I can’t figure it out either. If they lose a bunch it won’t surprise me, and I assume the OL or QB (or both) are the reasons for it. If we win, I won’t be surprised because we still have lots of skill on offense and I have faith in Flo and the new additions on defense.
Hell, we could still lose a lot even if Sam plays really well. Passing is but one phase of the offense, and then there’s the defense and special teams.
Absolutely right JR. My concern with Darnold is, in his 66 games, he’s thrown 63 TD’s and 56 interceptions. Those kind of numbers aren’t gonna put us into position to compete.
If I were his coach, I’d keep him off the “high dive”, at least for a while. run the ball, screens (get those lard asses blocking) and make Jones beat us throwing from the pocket.
Darnold can make the throws downfield if he knows where he’s going with the ball, and has decent protection. He is not good (in my opinion) when he is given too many options, and there is a lot of pressure.
KOC is 17-0 when we win turnover battle. seems like an easy metric to follow.
But I mean, I am just assuming here… aren’t most coach’s records much better when they win the turn over battle.

What’s weird is you can’t understand that a QB is needed to play well for a team to have a chance to win, but they never, ever, win games all by themselves. How long have you been watching football again?
Yeah, you’re not understanding it right. The fumbles and interceptions are all his fault, but the wins aren’t because of him. His 50-37 record with the Vikings is not good enough. Just because the non-Kirk Vikings fumbled away like 4 games at the beginning of the season last year doesn’t mean that Kirk doesn’t still deserve all the blame. *rolls eyes*
IMO, he probably deserved to be at least 54-33 if the rest of the team just held onto the ball decently last year (Vikings were #3 in fumbles and #2 in fumbles lost, the majority of which weren’t Kirk or his fault). And if his IOL was even average, he would probably have several more wins if you look at it that way. I don’t think he’s been carried to too many wins with his defense ever really. I wonder how many games the elites win when their team fumbles nearly twice per game on average and loses most of them.
It’s a team game, and everyone on the team can contribute to wins and losses.
Kirk himself was responsible for 9 turn overs in 8 weeks between his fumbles and INTs last year. Would have been 10 if Addison didnt literally rip away an INT in the 49er game. Maybe watch the games instead of rolling your eyes you might actually see something.

I completely agree with the ‘second’ Addison throw, but the first to Addison that was intercepted was right in Addisons’s hand and the DB took it aways from him.
And I believe the first of the year to KJ was right in his hands and a DB took the ball away from him.
If we’re placing blame for turnovers on certain players we really do need to “watch.” – agree with that.

Haha so when his lineman swats a ball out of his hands it’s his fault? Or Mattison drops a handoff, even though it’s credited to Kirk for some unknown reason? Or Turdbury or someone whifs a block and Kirk gets hit in 1.5 seconds while trying to pass looking right? All that is him? Just dumb to say all those instances are his fault.
I didn’t say some weren’t on him. I also wasn’t talking about interceptions at all. But do you remember being frustrated with fumbles the first 6 games or so last year? I do. Watch the games. Or maybe get glasses.
