Thread Guidelines

  • Keep politics out. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down the rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
  • Be cool to one another. Like it says above, just be civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone and that’s fine, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument not the poster.
  • Keep the NSFW to a minimum. We don’t need anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
  • All in all, be adults. Treat each other with respect and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. If you want to reach out about something feel free to ask. We want to have robust discussions, that’s why we’re here.
  • Twitter sized version: be cool to one another.

Still understandable but one just has to work at it a bit more.

this is CRAZY

The Texans gained six net yards on 18 second-down plays last Sunday. Yes, that’s 0.3 yards per play. Only three teams have had a worse day on second down in any game over the past five seasons. That meant Stroud faced third-and-10-plus on 10 different occasions, the first time that has happened for any team since 2022. Stroud spent many of those snaps scrambling and struggling to find any of his star receivers open.

Take solace in the fact that if you lived in the US you would get a massive gouger bill that would take a couple of months for the insurance company to settle their part.

We just let the two of them duke it out.
And no point did we get a bill, just an occasional notice that the matter was still being ‘worked out’.
At the end the insurance co stated that ‘some items had to be re-coded’ before they could be accepted’.
Figure that is medical speak for they had to call it something else before the insurance will accept it.

My wife and I got in a big row over Christmas lights.

I favored putting up the 240 feet of lights on the shouse at heights varying from 14 feet to 25 feet using an extension ladder, so as to punish myself with wind sprints running up and down the ladder and perilous leaning out to put up just one more light on the string. What’s the worst that can happen?

She favors renting a boom lift and putting all my supplies in the basket with me and rolling around the shouse, get it done safely and in 1/4 of the time.

The lift rental is $300 with a $125 fee for round trip transport. I told her that and she said FFS you make how much?

Women I tell you, can’t live with them, can’t live without them.

And I’m a poor middle class stiff.

Actually, the last time we had a boom lift at our place (while the addition was being installed), two teenagers were running it, drove it through the muddiest part of our property for no apparent reason, got stuck, had to be winched out as we missed a day of work getting it out, and I got to spend three hours repairing the massive divot in my yard with the tractor. Then they drove it directly over our drain field despite the orange flags we had placed, ignoring our caution to NOT DRIVE OVER THE DRAIN FIELD.

TL;DR “someone else” = nincompoop. Plus they’re kinda fun to use.

I get that, but the guy you hire to cut down trees or put up lights or build an addition usually has a couple of nincompoops that they have do those simpler chores while they do the more important finish work etc. Trust me the teenagers weren’t getting the cheque directly from us.

Yes they are, I used to work for a painting company in Owatonna. We had one similar to the one in your picture. We rented a 76′ one to paint the steeple of a church and a roof cap on a five story building.

I only got to take it up to about 50-60 ft, but another guy on the crew took it up the full 76′. He was painting the little roof cap/cone. It was probably 1 foot tall and 8-10 inches in diameter. It took him 2 hours to paint it. The wind would blow him away, and when it would let up he would quickly paint what he could until it rocked away again. When he got back to the ground he was white as a sheet and could barely stand up, his legs were shaking so bad.

I don’t have any issues until I get back to the ground and see where I was.

My brother and I were painting a Victorian style house, basically 3 stories tall. We had a 36 foot ladder, but it would not reach the peaks. So we put the ladder fully extended on top of his conversion van. We put the bullhorns on the ladder and I stood on the very top rung, and painted the very peak, reaching as high as I could.

I can’t imagine being that cool up there. I get vertigo bad when I get up in the air. Limbs start trembling. Feels like the heart is pumping low-grade battery acid.

I can get up on top of grain bins and stuff like that, but the situation like you described would put me in a sanitarium.

I hate heights. I’ve walked the roof ridge of the shouse, sitting at 25 feet, with what seems to me like a teflon metal roof on each side sloping away at 3:1, and almost panicked as in I almost froze. It took everything I had to slide back down to the ladder. I can only imagine being in a whipping bucket at 76 feet.

The company I worked for used to paint water towers, I never got to. But, I heard from the older employees, they sway about 15-20 feet in each direction when you’re painting them. One guy froze when he got to the top and had to have a helicopter come and get him off.

MT Viking
Reply to  JacksonVike
26 September 2024 1:04 pm

I feel for that guy. I was suppressing those panic thoughts because I knew if I let them come to the forefront I was gonna freeze at 25 feet. Leave me up there for a day or two and eventually I’d come down I suppose. The good news was that (I had bare feet because I felt it was too slippy to get up there with shoes on) I was sweating so bad that I had plenty of sweat to help my feet grip.

We actually have a boom lift at the farm. A guy had one for sale. At the time, we had to do a bunch of tree trimming at the farm, and dad figured for what all of that would cost, he could buy more than half the boom truck for sale, so he bought that, and now we trim our own trees and whatever else that requires a boom truck.

We even had a nearby small town asks us to bring it over to help them hang Xmas lights. it actually gets used quite a bit.

Moral of the story: get a boom truck.

This is what the one I’m renting looks like (technically an articulating crane). There was actually a larger genie boom truck for sale at auction two weeks ago that I looked at…really couldn’t make the dollars work at the $10,000 I thought would be the max bid – versus the cost of renting the few times I need one. It went for $29,000 hohoho MT knows squat about auctions.

It’s toque with a Q. Pronounced /təʊk/ – if you walk into a store in WEM (West Edmonton Mall) and ask for a ski cap or stocking cap they will likely have no idea what you mean. Kinda like when I was looking for Febreze in Regina once upon a time when our dog had an anal gland squirt in the back of our SUV.

Bunny hug is just a generic hoodie. Actually it was more common in Alberta to call them pup tops, bunny hug being a Saskatchewan phrase, but bunny hug is more endearing.

Idaho DMV sent me a set of duplicate plates in the mail last week.

I called to ask why and how to dispose of them as just tossing them seemed wrong.
They said that the had issues with ‘military personalized plates’ issued around the time I got mine so they just reissued all of them. They said I could just save them in case one of mine got damaged.

Willis is young which is prime meat for Flores but he did pretty well last game and we have a history of allowing back up QBs to imitate Hall of Fame level play.

I hope the Vikings get at least 5 sacks this week, and do not care what QB they hit.

Both is fine. Knock out Love, then sack Willis.

Sounds KOC and the Vikings are bucking the trend of ‘dumbing down’ the offense so that QBs can run it with limited practice time.
Watching analysis videos that show Sam going thru multiple reads and the WRs running thru complex schemes leads me to believe that is not what we do.

Was thinking more about JJ and KOCs plan to get him dialed in on the offense.
There doesn’t seem to be any indication that they want to simplify things for a rookie or a QB new to the system.

Well, Allen said his comments weren’t aimed at Diggs. Also, stats get you into the Hall of Fame, earn you prestigious awards, and they get you paid. If your QB isn’t throwing you the ball, you aren’t garnering any of that.

Just a different perspective.

Perhaps more time is needed to fully evaluate. Bills have played three of the poorest defenses in the league, and even this week, the Ravens pass defense is giving up 300 yard per game.

there was a 20 second long “we don’t agree with the depiction of this that and the other things blah blah blah”

and i am still trying to figure out what was racist in the movie….the pirates were of a different ethnicity and they all spoke a different language, but there was nothing RACIST about casting them etc…

They definitely need Harry on a pitch count. He fades about as bad as Dalvin Cook.

I always thought they shouldn’t even play Dalvin Cook until two thirds of the way through the season, so he would actually be useful at the end and in the playoffs if they made it.

Well both of those 5-0 teams won more than 6 games. The ’03 team finished 9-7 and the ’16 finished 8-8.

If fact no Viking team that won it’s first 3 games have ever won less than 8 games (only ’16 had that few). So it looks like history suggests his chickens should be lined up to be counted.
