I’m glad the bye week is over, the weekend just isn’t the same without Vikings football. I get far too apathetic on bye weeks. The Detroit Lions come to Minneapolis for a noon game on Sunday where both teams look to continue their strong seasons and notch a win. It won’t be easy, both teams are very good football teams. The Lions lost Aiden Hutchinson to a horrific leg injury yesterday, which is a big blow to their defense, especially their pass rush. Let’s hope the Vikings can notch victory number 6. SKOL!!!!!!

Vikings/NFL News and Updates:

Here are all of your NFL week 6 scores and highlights, courtesy of ESPN.

Our old pal Patrick Peterson says he’s interested in returning to the Vikings, according to MSN. Hey, I’m all for it, we all know that injuries can come out of nowhere, doesn’t hurt to have a backup plan waiting in the wings.

From Sports Illustrated, when asked about the Vikings defense this year, Cam Bynum said they’re “having fun and balling”. They sure are, and it’s a lot of fun to watch. Hey, just for fun, let’s think back to Donatell’s last year as DC. Remember that? Me too, let’s stop thinking about that. This year is a lot of fun to watch.

Media Selection:

I love math, here’s a cool video on Kaprakar’s Constant. Enjoy!

Thread Guidelines

  • Keep politics out. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down the rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
  • Be cool to one another. Like it says above, just be civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone and that’s fine, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument not the poster.
  • Keep the NSFW to a minimum. We don’t need anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
  • All in all, be adults. Treat each other with respect and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. If you want to reach out about something feel free to ask. We want to have robust discussions, that’s why we’re here, just be civil.

ARLINGTON, Texas — Detroit Lions star edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson underwent successful surgery Sunday night at a Dallas-area hospital to repair his fractured tibia and fibula, the team announced Monday.

Hutchinson will return to Detroit this week and is expected to make a full recovery. There is no timetable for his return to play, the team said.

A source, however, told ESPN’s Adam Schefter that Hutchinson’s season is over, as his injury typically carries a recovery timeline of six to eight months. A rod was placed in Hutchinson’s leg during the surgery, the source said.

The part about the middle class blah blah, probably, but there’s no way she would know enough about guns to list Kimber, Sig, etc. She said she has a Glock because it was the only one she could think of. The true middle class gun is probably a Taurus or Ruger. Glocks are expensive.

NFL commissioner Roger Goodell was asked about the possibility of a Super Bowl being played outside of the United States, and it sounded like a real possibility.

“We’ve always traditionally tried to play a Super Bowl in an NFL city — that was always sort of a reward for the cities that have NFL franchises,” Goodell said, “But things change. It wouldn’t surprise me at all if that happens one day.”

Great idea there… and shows how clueless the rich are. Of course the American fans of the two competing teams can all fly overseas to see the game. No problem.

In the spirit of things done too early, I put up (permanent) Christmas/Thanksgiving/Vikings victory/breast health/whatever you want lights all around my shouse last week. The boom lift was a gift from God, thank goodness my wife insisted I rent one.

If I can figure out how to fly my drone at night without it crashing I’ll take some pics. They look really good.

I built a wooden box out of 3/4″ plywood to mount my miter saw on an old Makiter table saw stand…had to take the guards off the table saw to accommodate the slab of plywood and despite thinking I was being super cautious I managed to tickle (no break in skin) the tip of my middle finger on the blade as it was spinning down and I was moving a piece of plywood. Takes the blade about 4 seconds to stop. That’s why you don’t reach over the blade until it stops…and why you set the height to barely above the stock you are cutting. No harm done but lesson learned.

Sunday’s game is going to be a real test. Hopefully KOC keeps his foot on the offensive gas.

It always pays to be careful.

A guy I know who is a super-duper handyman in his 60s recently lost part of his thumb and two fingers in a saw mishap.

I couldn’t believe it when I heard it. It is like hearing Bob Vila got injured.

He is doing okay, though.

In my head I’ve thought of it like (downhill) skiing, the guys that F* their ACL are the intermediate skiers, as novices are too cautious to do stupid things and experts are too good to lose control…however I’ve had to revise that as I had a rash of cut off fingers and nails embedded in bone cross my desk on local contractors. So maybe anyone can cut their finger off on a stupid table saw.

I was using one of those (kinda like a sawhorse) saw helpers but should have just grabbed my wife, but we get into a discussion as I always feel like she’s binding the stock against the blade by advancing the free edge too quickly.

I had a Genie Z34. Was a piece of cake to use and makes you override the controls if you are in an unstable position for driving, like the boom is extended to the side you have to hold the override switch down and it just crawls along. If I can use one for 12 hours and not smash into the soffit or feel uneasy you should be like superman up there.

I’m not sure. I’m trying to look at it but this one isn’t making much sense. It looks like it though. Only 142 was guaranteed at signing but it looks like to avoid the remaining 58 mill in guarantees they would have to cut him in 2026 or 2027. They would take a substantial dead cap hit though. Most of his money is in option bonus and guarantees at goofy times. The 2028 option bonus of $35mill fully guarantees on the 4th day of 2027 for example so to avoid that bonus being guaranteed they would have to cut him prior to it activating which would mean a 44 mill dead cap hit in 2027. I think they’re tied through 2026 at least, could get out in 2027 with a little pain and then after that it becomes easier to part ways.

There are lots of people into the Odin stuff, though. The defenders have been doing a good job of getting a trial in public and creating doubt.

It is fair to say maybe Richard Allen didn’t kill the girls, but he is 99 percent Bridge Guy from what has come out so far. He admits to being there at that time, wearing those clothes, his car is on video arriving, witnesses, bullet supposedly from his gun at the scene, confessed more than 60 times in prison, etc.

So, even if he didn’t kill them, if he is the guy that took them off the bridge to get killed.

Travel is an ‘adventure’.
At least you are not on a deadline.
Retirement is nice that way.

Safer is better than faster.
Played that all day yesterday, ‘go as fast as you can safely’.
A lot of 2 lane highways which can be tricky.

Think it’s actually a felony to shoot an alligator in Florida – even if it’s in your yard.
Now if there is immediate danger, not sure. Would hope some common sense would apply.

Just jump on his back and tape his mouth closed. Or tie a noose, slip it around the chompers and close. After that a quick knife to the back of the head and you have meat for the freezer and nobody knows anything.

I wouldn’t advise it. Bears have bigger arms and stronger jaw opening muscles. There was a college kid who tried it a year or two ago when a griz went after his buddy.

‘The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said there are rare circumstances in which someone can claim self-defense with a gator.
Experts say if a gator attacks you or your pet, you can take action, but if the attack happens off your property, it becomes more difficult to claim self-defense’

Heard that when he was asked he said he was open to returning.
I didn’t hear anything about bad feelings when he left, just that he had a good year with us and got offered more some place else.
Good for him, he was a lot of help in 2022 with some timely picks.

I loved the signing when we got him, and appreciate what he did.

My beef is how millionaires aren’t satisfied with millions. If he “wants to play for the Vikings” he should have played for the Vikings instead of jumping ship for more $$ when he’s got enough already.

My memory banks are eroding a bit – did he leave for a team he thought was gonna make an Owl run?

Looking at Team Defense through week 5, Looks like the Lions and us match up fairly well defensively. They are fairly close to us in almost every defensive category, at least on the website I was looking…

It’s gonna be a good game on Sunday. Their offense is obviously firing on on cylinders as our offense was SPUTTERING against the Jets. Adding Hock will be a huge boost, but his first game back, i doubt he is out there a TON as they work him back in.

I expect the Lions offense to look better than ours. They can run and obviously pass very well.
This will be the biggest test for our defense yet, I think.

Haha yeah, the Bears and Packers are overrated, and will likely come back to Earth (especially the Bears). The Packers have been so lucky with their cake schedule (particularly when Love was hurt), but eventually they have to play the Lions x 2, Vikings again, 49ers, and Seahawks. Hopefully that will be 4 or 5 losses (+ maybe Texans, but I think they’ll win that one). But the rest of their games are pretty easy I think, so they’ll probably make playoffs at like 10-7.

He said the vikings haven’t faced an offense like theirs yet (while that might be sort of true, without looking at rankings), i told him we have faced some pretty stinking good offenses (49ers, Houston, GB (the talking heads LOVE their offense)), but i reminded him that the Lions haven’t faced a defense like ours yet… AND our offense hasn’t faced a terrible defense like the Lions…

It should be a wild game IMO

FTP!

NFC North looked good yesterday.

I question how good Dallas is, especially with that Zimmer defense where everyone was wide open (looked more like a Donatell defense). No doubt Lions are good, but I still think they’re overrated. And now their defense is worse with Hutch out.

GB keeps beating up bad teams. I think they’ll come down to earth. They’re good, too, but also overrated.

The Bears live off of their defense. I think if they keep running the ball well, they’ll be tough. But again, the Jags are not good.

It has helped that the Bears have played the worst 3 defenses in the league the last 4 weeks. That pick Williams had yesterday was bad bad.

HUNViking
Reply to  manly-purple
14 October 2024 8:37 am

I saw 2 Lions games so far this season, they could (and probably should) have lost at Arizona, a questionable call that negated a Goff pick 6 saved their hide in that game.

Yesterday they dominated a severely depleted cowpies defense, not that impressive IMHO. They are good, but the Vikes shouldn’t be afraid of them, at home especially.

Bears have beaten teams who, combined, managed to get whopping 4 wins so far, same with the FTP, who still get tons of help from the refs.

We should be able to take the division if we keep playing like we did the first 5 weeks.
