It’s finally Friday, everyone, and welcome to Skoloholics, your home for Minnesota Vikings Discussion. Everyday you can join us for Minnesota Vikings news, Minnesota Vikings talk, NFL news and updates, and all of those other things that you have on your mind. At Skoloholics, the real action is in the comments, so if you haven’t checked out the comments section yet, sign up and join the conversation.

A billion thanks to Surly and Bowbunch for covering the past couple of days, it’s much appreciated. So, T.J. Hockenson is officially NOT going to start against the Lions on Sunday, but he did say that he’s eyeing a week 8 return. It’ll be nice to get Hockenson back into the lineup, make it even harder for opposing defenses to cover everyone, and give Darnold a reliable safety valve for when protection is lacking (sideways glance/glare at Ingram and Bradbury).

Speaking of the O-line, I see that Dalton Reisner is returning after being sidelined with a back injury. I sure hope they give him a shot at right guard, then I hope they consider giving Michael Jurgens a crack at center, possibly strengthen the two weakest links.

Vikings/NFL News and Updates:

Last night on Thursday Night Football, the Broncos beat the dog snot out of the *aints, details from USA Today. If you didn’t watch it, you didn’t miss much. The Broncos gained several miles on the ground, and the *aints suck. Normally, I’d root against the *aints, but since Sean Payton is coaching the donkeys, I couldn’t really root for them either.

T.J. Hockenson addressed the media and talked about his eventual return, among other subjects, from Vikings.com.

As mentioned, Dalton Reisner is returning from his injury, the Strib has the details. I know it’s a couple days old, but I was out of the loop for a day or so, so it’s fairly new to me.

Paul Allen said that he nearly quit after the 2021 season, per MSN.

From CBS Sports. the latest injury news and updates from around the NFL.

Nike has the NFL uniform deal locked up until 2027, the NFL is currently accepting bids for 2028 and beyond, according to CBS Sports.

Media Selection:

Here’s a great episode from Shawn Ryan where they explore some of the unknows surrounding Jeffrey Epstein. Enjoy!

  • Keep politics out. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down the rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
  • Be cool to one another. Like it says above, just be civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone and that’s fine, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument not the poster.
  • Keep the NSFW to a minimum. We don’t need anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
  • All in all, be adults. Treat each other with respect and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. If you want to reach out about something feel free to ask. We want to have robust discussions, that’s why we’re here, just be civil.

That time of year.

Gonna pull the pump and blow out the surface irrigation pipe for my shelter belt tomorrow. Big trees were delivered last week and I got them all planted with 4′ wide and 5′ deep holes, manure and stakes and lotsa water for the winter. Manure is kinda fascinating to me, the cows convert a bunch of useless grass into a biome of soil enrichment, for free!

My light bar and ditch lights finally showed up from Heretic, for my Bronco. Gonna start that install as once the MDT ends gonna be dark on my way to AND from work. I blame Ponder.

My wife wants me to build a little barnwood stand for a little electric fireplace we just got for the TV room. Doesn’t take long to go from low utility days to heat days. I also need to set up my new bandsaw and make a bunch of coasters from elm logs for gifts. Cut ’em, sand ’em, scorch ’em, epoxy ’em. Easy peasy.

Trump up to 60% odds on winning the election.
Betting odds are different than polling data as the political bias has been removed and it more about the Sharps and who they believe will win.

Are Republicans more likely to bet than Democrats?
Like sports odds the Sharps have to account for how much money they predict each side will bet in order to set the odds that is most beneficial to them (book).
I don’t have enough knowledge to adjust my interpretation of the odds.

Much like Vikings were underdogs to 49ers/Texans/FTPs, it does not guarantee anything but then neither do the polls.
Right Hillary? (please don’t kill me).

Both Army (#23) and Navy (#25) are rated this week.
Usually that means that they will both lose soon.
But it also indicates that we will have a great Army-Navy game this year.

Depends on your definition of fun.
I can enjoy a game with Good Defense and Running Attacks.
There has been more Passing this year I believe. But that does not equal a lot of Passing Attack.

Video of Trump at a rally when a man yelled out ‘Your father paid my tuition’. Trump replied ‘you are that man’? He told Trump ‘Yes’. Trump said ‘I will be right down’.

He walked down to the man, held Secret Service back, signed his book and afterwards the man told his story.
He was a classmates of Trump, his father died, so Trumps Dad showed up at his house to tell his mom that he personally would pay the tuition of all three kids so they could stay in their school.
Trump knew immediately who it was and made a point to go meet with him. A story the fake news would never tell.

I think so as well.
Trump doesn’t brag about things like this but others see it and occasionally we get a glimpse. Much like him meeting with wounded service members or families of those killed while he was in office. He wasn’t doing it for ‘Photo Ops’.

A story an associate of mine told me.
He took a group of 100 wounded veterans to the WH for a lunch with Trump. Unlike most politicians, Trump showed up 15 minutes early and starting and sitting and talking with each family. After a few minutes, he called over an aid and cancelled all his afternoon meetings. Throughout the afternoon he spent personal time with every single vet and their families. Listened to their stories and told some too.
These type of stories never get told about him.

He also mentioned that he beat her in the primaries, is that an attack?

DVOA says Detroit has the 4th best offense and 4th best defense. 2nd best team overall.
Minnesota has the best defense, but an average offense (pass O is good, run O is not).

So I trust our defense to hold their offense in check if Time-Of-Possession does not get out of hand. We’ll need the passing O to thrive against a semi-suspicious secondary that leaned too heavily on a 4-person pass rush lead by the now-injured Hutchinson.

In short, Darnold is key. I trust our receivers. I trust our defense. I’m nervous about our QB.

They won’t give up on the run. Their backs are capable of breaking off 10 -12 yards runs. And if they catch a blitz with a run to the opposite side, some even bigger runs.
Still, while I think they are good, I don’t think they are as talented as the Packers.

Then an hour before the chili is done simmering im going to do little spoon fulls of the spicy juice, and dial it in juuust right. Im excited. Also had a co worker bring me home made Reaper Hot sauce yesterday at the office and it was actually very good, perfect amount of heat. Like, maxed out on tolerance but still flavorful.

I am weak, and old.
Long ago (late 90s) I was in Nashville for work training and we had happy hour at the Stadium Club for wings. Highest heat level was Napalm. We ordered them, and the cook came out to ask where we were from. Told him Minnesota, and he tried to talk us out of it. Habanero used to be the hottest peppers at most wing places, and that is what they used. Anyways, the 4 of us order two pitchers of beer and a basket of the Napalm wings to get started. They arrive, and the cook comes out after we had tasted them and asks how they are. Smart ass Surly says “Pretty good, we will take another dozen, but could you make them hot this time”. Cook was pissed.

There were visible pepper chunks all over that next batch, but we had enough beer that it was no issue.
Out of the 4 of us, I was the only one without GI issues. they were really hot though.

Now, I think that would kill me. I am not quite at the Swedish level my parents were at with spicy food, but I also realize the aftermath is sometimes not worth it anymore.

Lol that is a good story. I love how the cook was all concerned and trying to talk you out of it haha. I too usually get GI issues from very hot things but it depends. I didnt get any fire hole from eating half of an actual reaper which was surprising but I had just eaten before so It wasnt on an empty stomach. I will report back on my chili experiment. If I dont show up here in a week I probably died. Did you make any Underdog Bets yet?

Underdog bets, yes. My 100 deposit, then they added 50. I have taken the 150 all the way to $55. So I have lost $95

I suck at this kind of betting, and will stop once the account is at zero.

I would happily vote for a black asian female president.

Of course policy plays a role. I wouldn’t vote for a candidate regardless of policy.

What I cannot vote for is a stupid black asian female president. I don’t mean that in a derogatory sense (I can’t vote for a stupid president of any gender). She is undoubtedly a very intelligent lawyer. She is probably a wonderful stepmother. But she is a stupid politician, whether that is due to inexperience or the nature of her rise in the party is up to conjecture, but it is clear she lacks the smarts to navigate the advice her team gives her and veto some of their ideas with ones of her own.

For me, it’s much more about policy than personality when it comes to these elections.

In the republican primaries, I’m looking for a mix of policy and electability (partially personality), but when it comes to the top two candidates for president, it’s all policy.

Lots of shades of gray, but some are far darker than others.
Her montor went to a church where their minister proclaimed death to Israel regularly, and then as POTUS opened up the funding for Iran and wouldn’t even see Bibi. It’s pretty “gray.” But of course no one would say so as you indicate.

Here’s the rest of the tweet:

The source shares that Chavez advised Kamala not to attend the Al Smith dinner because it could send the wrong message and risk alienating LGBTQ and pro-abortion voters if she was seen cozying up to Catholics.

Instead Chavez suggested a compromise of sending in the poorly-received video in lieu of an in-person appearance.

Chavez was in tears during the phone call as Kamala shred her to pieces, called her an idiot, inept, horrible at your f-ing job, and told her that her stupid advice is going to be the reason she loses.

The joy is gone.

I mean, anybody who has even followed Kamala in her adult life for even just a brief time, knows that this is how she is. Anybody who dismisses this character trait about Kamala is clueless.

My point is we are playing one of those cursed short week games on the road. We all know there is a heightened risk of injury on the rapid turnaround games, plus we are at a disadvantage on the road. You’re nitpicking my opinion…I said I wouldn’t play him week 8. Get him up to full speed during the mini bye and roll out week 9. IMHO.

He’s not good against the blitzes, he’s good when blitzed and it gets picked up. Also, remember who the D coordinator was who shut Goff down in the SB when he was with the Rams? Thats right, B Flo. We got this.

Most people think this song is about drugs, but it’s actually about the Beatles feeling towards each other. During a weak time, George brought up the Yogi and the phrase “Come Together right now over me” is an excerpt from the script telling them to use this song to build their bonds again and unite as one.

Each verse is dedicated to a Beatle:
Verse 1: “Here come old flattop, he come grooving up slowly He got joo-joo eyeball, he one holy roller He got hair down to his knee Got to be a joker he just do what he please”

This verse is about Ringo. Ringo’s old school drum beats (“Flat top” referring to the old haircut in the mid 1900’s) were off at first with the rest of the band, but in time he got better and better (“Groovin’ up slowly”). “he got hair down to his knee,” is a joke about his shaggy look when he first joined the group and since he’s sitting down playing the drums his hair wouldn’t quite reach his knees but you get the riff. “Got to be a joker he just do what he please,” Refers to him being the goof of the group.

Verse 2: “He wear no shoeshine, he got toe-jam football, He got monkey finger, he shoot Coca-Cola, He say, “I know you, you know me” One thing I can tell you is you got to be free Come together right now over me”

This is George. “He wear no shoeshine,” refers to George not being fancy and liked the bare foot thing. “He got toe-jam football,” Soccer was a sport usually practiced outside the temples where the Yogi was practiced. “He got monkey finger,” George was extremely dextrous and learned many stringed instruments with ease. “He say,’ I know you, you know me’ etc…” another reference to the Yogi.

Verse 3: “He bad production, he got walrus gumboot, He got Ono sideboard, he one spinal cracker, He got feet down below his knee, Hold you in his armchair, you can feel his disease, Come together right now over me”

This is John. “He bad production,” refers to John constantly stopping the recordings and piss off all the rest of the band. “He got walrus gumboot,” John wrote “I am the walrus” and kept making songs like that and refused to change his style, thus upsetting the rest of the band. “He got Ono sideboard,” a sideboard is a court term referring to pulling to the side or distracting. Yoko Ono would pull John away from the band and is believed to be the downfall of the band. “He one spinal cracker,” a term related to “breaking my back,” John would constantly argue with the band mates and “break their backs.” “He got feet down below his knee,” John refused to be open minded or “get on his knees” He was stubborn and stood up, refusing to kneel to anyone. “Hold you in his armchair you can feel his disease,” Anyone who really knew John, or even got close to him, knew something was wrong physically with him, depression, anger, etc. etc..

Verse 4:”He roller-coaster, he got early warning, He got muddy water, he one mojo filter, He say, “One and one and one is three” Got to be good-looking because he’s so hard to see Come together right now over me”

This is Paul. “He roller-coaster,” Paul was very emotional and would change all the time on everything whether it be a song or feelings. “He got early warning,” Early in, the rest of the guys knew that Paul was going to be a problem so they warned him. “He got muddy water,” A reference to Paul’s fascination to Muddy Waters Bluesy style. “He one mojo filter,” Paul was very persuasive and would make the rest of the members bend to his will. “He say ‘one and on and one is three’,” is a reference to Paul trying to constantly tell the rest of the band that even without him, the band could survive. “Got to be good-looking because he’s so hard to see,” Paul was the “cute” one of the group and was also very hard to get along with and read as a person.

In case any of you were wondering…

Thanks, very informative…once again I actually learn stuff by coming to this site…very educational.

Unlike HUN, I don’t think the Beatles suck…don’t think they were great either…They were the Vikings of their time kind of meh (except for this year of course when we finally win the Owl)

Awesome. I love learning things like this. Never had a clue as to what the song was about, just loved listening to it.

Unlike “Relax” by Frankie Goes to Hollywood. Nothing secret about what they’re talking about.

I concur.

I have two foot related stories, probably told them before on here.

Both happened when I lived in dorms.

First was right at start of fall semester. I’d been hitting the weights for all the good they do for me, showered and shaved afterwards, the shaving cream can fell out of my rolled up towel and landed right on the top of my big toe nail. Being ignorant of such things, I had a big paronychial hematoma and hopped around for a week until the blood burst through the top of my toe and filled my shoe with blood during basketball. Teammate insisted I go to the ER, a bored med student burned a hole through the nail, all was good after that.

Second was slightly more interesting. Playing basketball end of November this monster center and I fought for a rebound, he came down on the top of my foot and I felt a pop (with my current knowledge I know I broke a metatarsal). Went back to dorms and took off my shoe, my foot was twice normal size. Nursing student was on my floor, my roommate went and asked if she could come look at my foot, as it turned out somehow a classmate friend of hers was visiting (that by chance I had done a couple of two steps with previously) and showed a lot more interest in icing and wrapping the foot, somehow that led to smooching…my first serious gf. Limping around campus again (in my memory the U of A campus must be two miles across) somehow I got an ear infection, so my mom set up an appointment with a doc in my hometown during Christmas break. I get some abic for the infxn, as he has his hand on the doorknob he says “anything else”, well yeah and tell him my story, he stammers something like, “well there’s nothing we would do with that”, slams the door, and I hear him loudly telling the nursing station “these gd patients that think they can bring up two things at an appt”. All part of my love affair with Canuck medicine and the reason that to this day I have never had an imaging study except dental xrays.

paronychial hematoma”
that’s the phrase my doc said! he said I did not have that, however. I think. He said if there’s throbbing, it might be that.

I’ve burned holes through fingernails before. Amazing relief.

I thought the upset doctor in the second story would be mad that you were insinuating that you wanted to smooch. TWO things at ONE appointment? How DARE someone have multiple issues simultaneously!

Many years later it made me chuckle as what he did was exactly what we were taught NOT to do. As the “hand on doorknob” is described as exactly that, and is a source of aggravation for both the doc and the patient, we were instructed to outline what we would cover in this singular visit right at the outset…and if it was two complex problems say you will need to make a second appointment for that. In the case of otitis media and a subacute foot injury needing radiographs, that could be easily covered in a single office visit. Oh well, I survived, my foot just looks like a duck foot.

When I was a kid I knocked something off the shelf in the garage right onto my big toe – had a large blood blister form under it, mom took me to the ER where they drilled it. Blood shot up nearly to the ceiling. Apparently it cost a lot for the ER visit. Toenail fell off. Took quite a while, but eventually the nail regrew.

About a week later something else fell on the same toe. Another blood blister. Mom called Dad, Dad brought home a set of thumbscrew drills. Accomplished the same task for about $11.

I’d like to see them get a lead and NOT let the opponent catch back up.

OR

I’d like to see the Vikings play well from behind, if necessary. Lions pass defense is vulnerable, so that could happen. Vikings passing offense is better than their running game anyway. I’d like old man Jones to be (and stay!) healthy.

Guess we’ll need another exceptional game from Sam, if he’s on (and the OLine holds in pass protection) he should be able to pick their secondary apart.

Sucks for them that Hutchinson is out, but as Surly recently stated, nobody felt sorry for the Vikes and our tons of injuries last season, so fu*k them. I’m starting to really dislike the Kitties and their cocky fans.

I like Amon Ra St Brown. I like their coach. Maybe I’ll hate them on Sunday?

I don’t really know many Lions fans.

I watched the Lions/Vikings game where Jared Allen chased Dan Orlovsky out the back of the endzone for a Safety in a Lions bar, and I have to admit the Lions fans were very cool that day.

HUNViking

I remember that game, Orlovsky’s claim to fame!

Never had a problem with the Lions as such, and I also do like Campbell, the St. Brown hype over in Germany is aggravating, though (his mom is German afaik, football community over there is going crazy about that).

They are usually also fun to watch, but between Hock’s injury last season and how cocky some of their fans are behaving now that they are somewhat relevant is souring my mood towards that team.

speaking of leaves. My kids are finally old enough to rake up the leaves in our backyard and actually do a good job of it. it’s a job i usually do, but they have wanted to jump into a leaf pile the last couple days….

so they spent a good portion of the afternoon on tuesday making a nice big leaf pile. only to not want to jump in it since it took them a long time and they did a good job of making the pile and didn’t want to ruin the pile…

interesting how when THEY put the work in, they don’t want it ruined but when i put the work in they DESTROY the leaf piles.

You are correct. We won that game by 2 points. Hauschka missed what would have been the game winning field goal. Eventually the cheaters cheated and won a meaningless farce of a game against Indianapolis.

6-0 in 2003 lead to Nate Poole.
6-0 in 2000 lead to 41-donut.
6-0 in 1998 lead to Gary Anderson wide left.
6-0 in 1975 lead to the Drew Pearson push-off.
6-0 in 1973 lead to a SB loss to the Dolphins (24-7), which is the best outcome of any 6-0 start in Vikings history

Of course, the last time we started 5-1 we went 3-7 the rest of the way and missed the playoffs.
