Wow, it’s both trade deadline day AND election day! NFL teams, and nations, look to improve theirselves by acquiring talent to upgrade a position of weakness. I’m holding out a sliver of hope that KAM will whip up some miracle deal to upgrade either the center or right guard position. Heck, why not both?

I couldn’t agree more

Vikings/NFL News and Updates:

Athlon Sports reported that the Vikings are having ‘constant dialogue’ ahead of the trade deadline. Wow, constant dialogue. You’d think that KAM’s voice would wear out, being in a constant dialogue for days on end. I suppose maybe he takes turns dialoguing, let the assistant GM come dialogue for an hour or two while KAM rests his voice & sleeps & all that type of stuff.

It appears that the Vikings will be without their starting kicker AND long snapper for an unknown period of time, according to the Strib. DePaola was injured during Sunday’s game, while Reichard re-aggravated a nagging injury he’d been dealing with all week. I read a report that the nagging injury became much worse sometime in the first half of the game. That stinks, our special teams have been solid this year. At least the punter isn’t injured……yet.

Check out all the highlights from Sunday’s game, watch O’Connell’s post-game locker room speech, and there’s much more to sift through in the media vault.

It was a good game on Monday Night Football. As of this writing, the Chiefs just went up by a TD, but Baker and the Bucs are putting up a good fight. Here’s a Buccaneers-Chiefs post-game wrap-up and final box score, courtesy of CBS Sports. I hope the Bucs win. The Chiefs are undefeated with a lot of help from the refs, while it seems like the Vikings are playing against the refs most weeks.

Keep up with trade deadline moves from around the NFL, courtesy of CBS Sports.

Media Selection:

It’s election day, it seems a fitting time to bring up one of our nation’s many problems. Enjoy!

So they just called Pennsylvania for DT.
That gives him 267 electoral collage votes and the currently lead in every state left except Tampon Tims state (although some are admittedly close).

Bonus he already has the Senate, with several left to be called.
House will be close, yet to be seen.

Just heard that the betting line has moved from DT 58% to 85% just tonight.
Even the Democrats talking heads are saying that their ‘path to victory’ has narrowed.

Not watching results just yet. It’s my 46th today. Voted after work and just finished a great burger from Honest Abe’s. Wife’s friend rolling over later after polls close (she’s an election inspector this year) and we’ll watch some results and smoke a little grass to wind down. Wife is a progressive liberal. Her friend also a registered democrat. I’m more middle of the road (been called a Libertarian a time or two – not sure it’s accurate) Enjoy political debate with both as we’re the rare example of opposing sides that can engage in civil discourse – although my wife and I agree on a number of social issues.

I’m proud that I voted. I’m proud that I keep company with others (including this tiny corner of the internet) that also take part in this sacred ritual.

Really great post. My wife has a dear friend from Maryland, who comes down here a couple times a year to just relax, and have fun. She is one of my favorite people on the planet. She is a huge liberal, and we agreed a long time ago, that there is no need to “go there”. We love each other and we won’t let politics divide us.

Just got back from the polls, took about 90m.
Guy in front of me asked about the ‘Ranked Choice’ prop that is on the ballot here. He said no one explained it in a way that made sense to him. I tried to explain it without getting political and getting kicked out.
Finally I said ‘we are political refugees’ from Calif and we are voting against it. Then he understood saying ‘ok, I know all about Calif’. And so we started discussing Santa Barbara as he was familiar with there like we are.

My signature is very different each time.
When I joined the Army I did full name with middle initial as they required. Did that for a few years then started doing first initial last name. And depending on how important the thing I am signing it is more or less readable.

They had us do that ‘electronic’ sign in that you do with your finger at the poll today. I normally just make a squiggly like for those.

MT Viking

Signing things is one of those brain worms I get from time to time. If I squiggle something when I buy an item, can I later claim that is not my squiggle?

When I get informed consent from a patient prior to a procedure that they may become a eunuch, can they later say that the signature on the consent is not valid and I owe them a pair of testicles? For that matter, is it my word versus theirs on exactly what was discussed in the consent process, and that all their questions were answered satisfactorily?

If they were to compare my signature to something I doubt I could duplicate any specific one unless I had example of the want to compare it with in front of me.

When I did mortgage paperwork, both here and in Calif, I reverted back to the full name with the middle initial. Those don’t compare to anything else I have signed in 15-20 years.

I just made the day of a regional site. Couple of weeks ago I noticed a “spot” on frontal/lateral x-rays/radiographs on the same location on two consecutive patients. Called and asked them to check it out. Today I noticed a spot in the exact same location on the laterals…paged back to the last five exams I read and there it is. Now the story would be “funny” if I said all the patients had cancer, but it was more of an edge of film thing that was filtered away by my brain until I noticed it again today.

So now they are tearing apart the entire system from x-ray source through image intensifier and digital transfer.

Speaking of imaging souls, if such a technology existed I would probably not have one.

The “unhoused” are extremely rare in my little corner of the world. Last three months there has been a feller notably camping in the ditches around town, he has all his belongings in some kind of cart contraption and sets up a little tent every night. Naturally I wonder what he does with his um waste, etc…

The story is he spent a winter outside up in Williston, and migrated down this way through Sidney. Apparently “likes to be left alone” although he “enjoys the food and money that people drop off”.

My soulless self thinks yah awesome these unhoused have a network, soon there’ll be a dozen or more roaming around town asking for food and money, etc…Also I find the many posts on Fartbook from people exclaiming how they sat down and had a burger with him and gave him some cash to be virtue signaling.

I think it is because we were poor growing up and usually the only thing in the house we could consider a treat was marshmellows.

Also, as a young kid, like 5-6, we would roast them on the gas stove. my mom caught me once and said I could start a fire doing that. Well, one time we were roasting them on the stove and the building next door caught on fire. So my 5-6 year old logic was I started the fire by roasting marshmellows on the stove.

If I go to Subway, a foot-long wrap, chips and drink costs about $16.

I can go to a sit-down restaurant and order a big burger with everything, fries and a drink for about $15.

Trump said one of the first calls he will make if elected is to Mexico’s president, Claudia Sheinbaum, about the border crisis, telling her to “stop letting people come in through our border.”

He then told supporters in Raleigh, North Carolina, how he would make Mexico cooperate.

“We’re being invaded by Mexico, but now we have a new president of Mexico,” he said. “I haven’t met her. And I’m going to inform her on Day One or sooner that if they don’t stop this onslaught of criminals and drugs coming into our country, I’m going to immediately impose a 25 percent tariff on everything they send into the United States of America.”

Personally, I’m good with this.

I am good with it too… if it works. But we HAVE to try something, and something other than a useless, expensive wall. So yeah. let’s give it a whirl. But these Tariff situations could backfire.
Who pays a tariff?
Payment of a tariff imposed by the U.S. falls on the person or organization in the U.S. who imports a given product — but that’s not the whole story.
Follow the money: The true economic burden of a tariff can fall on the importer, the exporter, and/or the consumer.
Let’s say a U.S. importer buys hats from overseas for $12 and sells them for $20 each. If a new tariff of 50% — $6 per hat in this case — were implemented:

  • The importer could raise prices on consumers by $6, to $26 — but likely lose sales in the process.
  • It could keep the price steady, but reduce its profit margin from $8 per hat to $2 per hat.
  • It could threaten to walk away unless its supplier cut prices by $6 — but the supplier could refuse.
  • For any given product, the details of how the market is structured — the amount of competition, scale of the tariff, and so on — would decide how those costs would be divvied up.

Case in point: A 2019 study estimated that by the end of 2018, “Import tariffs were costing U.S. consumers and the firms that import foreign goods an additional $3 billion per month in added tax costs.”

  • Additionally, the study found the tariffs were allowing U.S. producers to increase their prices because they faced less foreign competition.
  • Under both the Trump and Biden administrations, according to the Tax Foundation, trade war tariffs have generated “more than $233 billion of higher taxes collected for the U.S. government from U.S. consumers.”

To a small degree they are incentivized to spend right? But not at anywhere near the same rate of gain from tax code benefits. The argument people have jobs is so dumb. IMO, the “economic experts” have been wrong on Tariffs.

At some point, extreme Tariffs on all incoming goods, would be a big burden by US taxpayers.

But that’s not happening with Trump. Yet.
He has selectively chosen various Tariffs to enforce.

The threat to Tariff has worked to make foreign companies comply and make a deal with the U.S. without imposing an undue burden on the U.S. consumer.

No republican is going to win in DE.

I went with the “independent” because the dem candidate is almost automatically anointed out here. The “independent” is a democrat who got pushed out because we have a DEI candidate.

I did it out of spite of the status quo out here.

I don’t think that and believe many around here are solid thinkers.
That said, Senate races are important and have meaning beyond individual candidates in races.
The Senate is majority rules and it is vital to have 51 seats or 50 with the VP. With that you control every committee and even which items get to the floor for a vote. And for example, if you have 51 votes you can kill the filabuster.
so, sometimes you may choose to cross party lines for a candidate, maybe even better, but the down stream consequences of this can sometimes be huge.
And besides, God wouldn’t side with the Nazis.

I… I was being sarcastic. But obviously based in some truth. Look at what is shared around here. It is almost exclusively negative about the left and almost exclusively positive about the right and that shows 1 of 2 things. Either the right is all good and the left is all bad with no exceptions. Which if you believe this shows you are totally indoctrinated and brain washed. Or the other option is you understand both parties are filled with (not all but most) corrupt scumbags but the media you consume is completely one sided and the algorithm has you trapped in an echo chamber.

Solid thinkers yes. But solidly caring about being honest and holding both sides to the same standards? Not a chance.

But what if neither of your two assumptions are right.
I won’t speak for others as we all think our own ways.
Your first assumption is just wrong – there is of course good and bad on both sides. As to your second, and I’ll only speak for myself, if I am “brain washed” as you suggest, it is driven more by 50 years of living in DC and dealing with that, as opposed to listening to the media.

Correct, we all know there is good and bad on both sides. Then why around here is literally almost everything shared politically by not me almost always bad about the left, if it is positive it’s positive about the right and basically never the other way around… See what I am saying. That shows the issue with the echo chamber that people have built around themselves and they don’t even see it.

Is Liz Chaney a Republican?
Is George Bush a Republican?
Are Dick Chaney, Mit Romney, Mitch McConnell republicans?
Guess what I think of those people!
If you want to talk about bad Republican Policy let me know. But most discussions tend to be about policies about the people in office. The Dems are the ones that have most recently enacted bad policy – yes?

If you’re argument is the Republican’s haven’t had any bad policies that you can think of then we can’t have this discussion. There’s nothing I can say at that point.

Our old friend Za’Darius a Kitten now… not good. But I’m afraid the Lions will take the division anyway, they are good (and play dirty, but that seems to be OK for the NFL) and are getting ref help when needed.

Skoloholics Pick ‘Em League Update #9

I demand a recount! This is BS! How did I come in last place this week? I had all of the battleground games picked exactly right. Everything looked fine when I went to bed. Then I get up the next morning and see the results. Someone cheated, I tell you! You’re all cheaters!

I don’t even want to talk about this insult to honesty, but it is my duty…

Little Fishin’ is still at the bottom after missing a couple week so picks, but he keeps hanging around. The fun is waiting to see who he will eventually pick off. Right now, I’m beginning to think it will be me because…cheaters, all of you!

Freezy and JacksonVike are still in 9&10, but they closed the gap on me in 8. Is it because they are cheaters? You know it! I know what I should do…I should wait until all of the results are in and then somehow hack the servers of Yahoo and give myself enough points to win overnight. It is only fair…

The cluster in the middle has actually pushed all the way up to threatening third place. In 4-7 place, I’d rather be fishing, Surly Viking, DE Viking and Bowbunch could all possibly claim a podium position next week. I’m not sure how any of them could feel good about it, though, because…cheaters, all of you!

NoDakRub currently sits in third place. Likely, he is pretty tired this morning, as he laid awake all last night bothered by his conscience for the things he did to achieve that high of a ranking.

Kirk is still good is in second place. It is insulting to me that he besmirches Kirk Cousins’s good name in his quest for ill-gotten dominance through cheating. Kirk would never cheat. He would just throw short of the sticks like an honest person.

Bleeding Purple ‘N Gold is in the top position. The power he now yields from there is truly frightening. It wouldn’t surprise me if he is deliberately letting bad players into the league to puff up his numbers. Except…that would make me one of those bad players. Would that make me a cheater, too? Argh! This game has made me lose all sense of self. I don’t know who I am anymore!

We had one Genius Pick this week. Freezy is the only one to pick the Jets over Houston. I guess that makes it an ULTRA Genius Pick then…

We had multiple Iconoclast picks, though. DE Viking is the only one to take the Giants over Washington. JacksonVike is the only one to take Jax over Philly. DE is also the only one to take GB over Detroit. Kirk is still good and Little Fishin’ are the only ones who took Seattle over the Rams. Bowbunch and me are the only ones who took Chicago over Arizona. And Surly and me are the only ones to take Indy over the Vikes.

Everyone got Atlanta, Buffalo, Cincy, Baltimore and KC right. There were no games that everyone got wrong.

I just want to put this week in the rearview mirror and move on. It should be a nice quiet day for that. I can’t imagine any newsworthy events are going to happen today that could have any accusations of cheating looming over them. Thank goodness for that!

Good morning, FTP & FT*! Also, FTL!

The Chiefs are undefeated with a lot of help from the refs, while it seems like the Vikings are playing against the refs most weeks.

Indeed. Swifties seem to enjoy the favor of the league and therefore the refs, while the Vikes have to handle business as usual, as in not getting those calls other teams get on a regular basis, or getting phantom calls against them. Darnold especially doesn’t seem to get the level of protection other QBs get. I mean a player almost takes his head off, ref looks literally directly on but doesn’t throw the flag because “they couldn’t see it”, and then the player gets fined for the foul the following week. Yeah, right…

It’s an uphill battle for the Vikes, having to play vs the “12th man” in stripes almost every week. Lions seem to be the favorite team in the NFC so far, won’t be easy to win the division. Still, I’m glad that the team seems to be determined to make the most of this season, hope Queasy can pull off a last second trade for a RG somehow. Go Vikings! SKOL!

Also, first.

Didn’t get to watch that game at all, need to look at the highlights sometime later today. Bucs seem to have played well, wasn’t enough to beat KC (and the refs?) in the end. But yes, as I think the Kitties will win the division it’s important to keep pace in the Wildcard race, a Bucs loss should be good for us.

Amen. They looked unstoppable in OT. It wasn’t like the receivers/TE’s even had to make great catches. Run their route boop the ball is there defender at least a yard away. So far, Detroit looks like the class of the NFC but they will be ground down inexorably by KC if they make it to the SB.
