Vikings hump day discussion

Happy hump day, everyone, and welcome to Skoloholics, your home for Minnesota Vikings Discussion! Every day you can join us for the latest Minnesota Vikings news, lots of Minnesota Vikings talk, also NFL news and updates, and most anything else you may have on your mind. At Skoloholics, the real action is in the comments, so if you haven’t checked out the comments section yet, sign up and join the conversation.

The trade deadline has come and gone, and the Vikings didn’t make any more deals. As I’ve mentioned half a billion times this year & last year, I wanted the team to upgrade either the center or right guard positions. They’re both abysmal at pass blocking, toward the bottom end of their position ranking. Also, we pass the ball 60-65% of the time, so they can’t afford to have the RG & C escorting defenders into Darnold’s lap at least once a drive. I held out a sliver of hope that Ingram would finally “get it”, but I knew it wasn’t happening. Bradbury and Ingram might block or impede more of Sam Darnold’s throws than the opposing defenses do. It’s not fun to watch. Oh well, we have who we have. Also, we have Risner coming back any day now, so maybe they can shuffle around a bit & come up with a better option.

Vikings/NFL News and Updates:

The Vikings placed Reichard and DePaola on injured reserve, according to Vikings.com. Also, how Cam Robinson’s crash course on the Vikings offense and code words helped him have a successful debut.

MSN reported that the Vikings and Cashman are frustrated that his turf toe injury has caused him to miss the number of games he’s missed.

CBS Sports looks at the trade deadline aftermath and list the teams who did well and who should have done more. I sure wish the Vikings would’ve found a way to bolster the interior O-line.

Our old pal Norv Turner is putting in another stint with the Raiders, this time in an advisory role, details from NFL.com.

Media Selection:

This video is really good, it’s probably the main reason I began to change my tune about legalizing pot. If the Republicans really want to sweep the country, they should embrace legalization. We supposedly embrace freedom, so let’s show it.

According to what Walz was trying to push through in Minnesota, Trump should take Minnesota. Walz was trying to push for Minnesota’s electoral votes to go to whomever won the popular vote. There are several blue states that were pushing for this, as a feeble attempt to undermine the electoral college.

As I explained to my Liberal Sister in Law when she complained that the Electoral Collage was bad after Bush/Gore (2000) and claimed that Americans would change it before the next election.
If order to change It, they would have to change the Constitution. In order to do that requires
‘An amendment may be proposed by a two-thirds vote of both Houses of Congress, or, if two-thirds of the States request one, by a convention called for that purpose. The amendment must then be ratified by three-fourths of the State legislatures, or three-fourths of conventions called in each State for ratification’.

So smaller States would have vote in a large percentage to give up the advantage the Electoral Collage give them. Not happening any soon, if ever.

This was why these states were trying to make the change to their respective state election rules. The problem is that most if not all, of the states that were proposing the change to their state election rules were traditionally blue states, so it would normally not make a difference. This year, it would have given all of the electoral votes of those traditionally blue states to Trump.

I’m confused. Didn’t Harris win the popular vote in Minnesota and therefore gets all the state’s electoral votes? What’s different?

Wouldn’t it be funny if they now turn on the popular vote. Maybe a jacked up electoral system with big blue states getting even more votes.
They seem desperate right now.

I’ll point out that with this graphic, sure the Democratic candidate got 15 million more votes in 2020…but the Republican candidate got 11 million more votes. A difference of 4 million does seem impressive…however in 2024 when presumptively every card carrying Republican showed up to vote the tally for the R candidate dropped by 3 million votes. Why did 3 million less people vote Republican? 4 million more votes for Harris and she would be more or less tied with the popular vote.

There are lies, damned lies, and statistics. Everyone likes to draw straight lines and make silly inferences.

MT Viking
Reply to  JRobert
7 November 2024 10:59 am

I’m pointing out that 74 to 63 while less impressive is still quite a jump. Clearly there was a factor that led to more votes cast for each candidate in 2020. I support the assertion that the COVID related changes in voter registration and ease of mail in voting created a larger amount of votes cast than has happened before or since. It is what it is.

I personally do not believe the 2020 election was “stolen”. I personally do not believe that January 6th was an insurrection. I think many of us have these dualities.

Casting off on a tangent I was reading about how many voters who waited until Tuesday to register stood in line for up to 9 hours in Billings and Bozeman. For those voters who waited until Tuesday to register, I nominate you nincompoop of the week.

I filled out my ballot from the comfort of my own home three weeks before, and dropped same off at the courthouse the next day.

I support your thought that due to Covid states loosened up methods to facilitate non in person voting. This yielded a sharp increase in cast votes.
But, these easier methods still in place produced less cast votes this year. And. the Democrats, the champions of mail in voting, really took a hit.
Something just doesn’t quite add up.

I agree with some of your assertions, however, I cast some blame on the local governments. They should be adequately prepared for these elections and there should be absolutely no reason that someone should have to stand in line for 9 hours to vote.

MT Viking

The reason for the long wait stated was that each county is allowed only one site for unregistered voters to register to vote on election day. I have to say I support that decision, do you really want to have to staff 45 different places to register people to vote on the day of the election?

Once they were registered, they were able to vote within minutes.

I stand by my nincompoop of the week admonishment. I think I saw recommendations that voters should register in advance in just a hair under 10,000 different places (newspaper, TV, courthouse, bar, etc) over the last six months.

Just a thought from an older guy. Liberals and Conservatives have been around for some time and “have” worked together and accomplished much.
Now, you can be a liberal and not be a woke nut, and you can be a conservative and not be a neoNazi.
Unfortunately, the extremists while small have the biggest voices. And for some reason they are listened too – not sure why.
At the end of the day. good policy regardless of the course will always work.

It’s bad man, it’s real bad. The majority around here think the entire left is trying to destroy America… this is what divides us. It’s what keeps us under the thumb of the rulers of this country. Instead of realizing we have differences of opinions on some things and that there are nuts on both sides and I would agree it is worse on the left than the right, right now. But that changes, that swings back and forth but as long as both sides can admit that, then both sides can work together to ignore or ostracize the nut jobs.

Is the left pushing for a less moral America, yes. Is the left pushing for more government control, yes. Is the left wanting to change or eliminate rights given to us by the Constitution of the USA, yes.

So to say it is only the loudest, is incorrect, if they all vote the same.

MSNBC commentator Joy Reid has gone viral for her meltdown following the outcome of the 2024 election, blaming “White women voters” for not showing up to vote for Vice President Kamala Harris.

The liberal panel was discussing the Democrat’s crushing defeat in North Carolina, a critical swing state which former President Donald Trump won by nearly two million votes.

The left is going to fight Trump with everything they have, just like the last time he was elected. They can’t stand America telling them they are wrong for the country.

Shortly after Vice President Kamala Harris called President-elect Donald Trump to concede the 2024 race for the White House Wednesday afternoon, failed campaign manager Jen O’Malley Dillon sent an email to staffers about next steps.
“Just a few moments ago, the Vice President connected with President Trump to concede the race. In the call, she told him that she would work with President Biden to ensure a peaceful transfer of power,” the email states. “She also made clear that she hopes he will be a President for all Americans.”

“I don’t have words to express the gratitude I have for everyone getting this email. You left everything on the field. You built a first-rate, historic Presidential campaign in basically 90 days. You navigated things that no one has ever had to navigate, and likely no one will ever have to again,” she continued. “You stared down unprecedented headwinds and obstacles that were largely out of our control.”
After thanking staffers for their work on the short campaign, a result of forcing President Joe Biden out of the race in July, the email states it’s time to “protect America from the impacts of a Trump Presidency.”

“I’ll leave you with this: losing is unfathomably painful. It is hard. This will take a long time to process. But the work of protecting America from the impacts of a Trump Presidency starts now. I know the Vice President isn’t finished in this fight, and I know the very people on this email are also going to be leaders in this collective mission. View this as the beginning, not the end. It will be hard work. But as the boss says: hard work is good work. And I look forward to standing beside you,” O’Malley Dillon vowed, admitting the country moved to the right towards Trump and away from Harris’ candidacy.

How well one handles defeat is a big deal.
People appreciate graciousness and do not like “bad losers’.
Heard also during the call to Trump she said we will have a peaceful transfer UNLIKE 2020. And now you read this kind of crap.
Dems lost on the issues and saying Trump was Hitler was a failure.
They would be wise to take the high road, but evidently won’t and I hope the voters again hold them accountable for such behavior.

Folks are going to see the democracy is not in danger, Trump is not Hitler. and if the Dems keep pushing that crap they are going to pay with the public.
And if Harris is gracious right now, she will rise in the public’s eye. If not, and acts like a bad loser, she will fall even further.
The choice is hers.

My comment this morning about Dems starting the impeachment process was only partly tongue-in-cheek.

They have completely ignored the fact that America was founded on democratic rule, that you vote for a leader and the one with the most votes wins, gets 4 years to run the country. If your candidate lost, you suck it up and try again in 4 years.

Nope. This is the era of instant gratification. Change the rules, re-write history, pretend shit never happened.

From NBC:

But the sources say DOJ officials have come to grips with the fact that no trial is possible any time soon in either the Jan. 6 case or the classified documents matter — both of which are mired in legal issues that would likely prompt an appeal all the way to the Supreme Court, even if Trump had lost the election.

Now that Trump will become president again, DOJ officials see no room to pursue either criminal case against him — and no point in continuing to litigate them in the weeks before he takes office, the people said.

“Sensible, inevitable and unfortunate,” said former federal prosecutor Chuck Rosenberg, an NBC News contributor.

OK, I can get behind what you are saying but then it also has to apply to other things. So you also don’t think being gay is a sin right? Because the Bible was written how many years ago? Like, I don’t know your stance on stuff but too often so many religious folks will write things off that are negative of their religion by saying it was written so long ago so you can ignore that part because society was different. And then you go, didn’t you just use very similar passages from the same book to judge others?

Nope. Life begins with conception. Here’s a good overview:

What Does God Say About the Beginning of Life? // Bible Study

Paul was pro slavery

Nope. Paul encouraged Christians to honor God no matter their station/lot/situation in life. Slavery (and indentured slavery) was a common aspect of society in Paul’s day. People who were slaves who also became Christian were encouraged to honor God in their situation.

Not everything should be left up to the state. When it comes to health care, all should have access to it. I am not even totally pro choice. I struggle with it because but came to the conclusion you are dead when your brain stops not your heart. Brain starts around 6 weeks, put a 6 week cut off for abortions and move on. And I was talked into that 8-10 week would be a better middle ground so we can move on from this topic that hamstrings every damn election!

Everyone does have access to it. the debate is on , who should pay for it. I’ve worked hard my entire life to keep a job that provides me with health care insurance. If you do not want to work for a place that offers health care insurance, you should be expected to pay for it out of your own pocket.

It’s cheaper to just give folks basic health care and better for the country and cheaper than always waiting for shit to become an emergency. You do understand that if someone is having a medical emergency they still get operated on and then eventually that cost lands on the tax payer’s lap. For the same reason insurance companies know that just taking care of someone to a certain extent is cheaper.

I use to be full on Libertarian, and from a pragmatic standpoint I still am so I understand what you are saying and agree with it in philosophy. But it just doesn’t hold up in execution.

All of the carping about public education sounds eerily similar to my views on government funded health insurance programs. My take on Medicare/Medicaid can be summed up as – oh the way we diagnose and treat illnesses has changed a lot since 1965, and for example diagnostic imaging is much more expensive? Well we will just give you a third of the money you need to break even doing an exam. Good luck.

That’s the funny thing: In my field, we haven’t gotten an increase in reimbursement since the 90’s! And in some cases, a cut in reimbursement from certain “insurances”. Name a single other thing that hasn’t gone up in price since 25 years ago. It’s ridiculous that we get reimbursed those rates. I think most would be blown away by how little we get paid per comprehensive eye exam (including refraction).

It’s so provably not true it’s baffling you could believe it. Are there PEOPLE from the left that want that? Yes. Are there more people like that on the left? Yes. But that’s only at this time. This pendulum keeps swinging. In my lifetime when I was young it was the right that was the group trying ban things and stop free speech and such. Yes it has swung to the left. I do not know how old you are, but I believe we are within 10 years of each other. Just curious what was being banned or what version of free speech was the right trying to take away. I remember the right complaining about Eminem songs talking about setting people on fire, but not trying to ban it.

I remember Tipper Gore putting parental advisory on music. I remember the governor of NY (name is slipping my mind) limiting how large of a soda you can purchase. Newsome and Walz are limiting the type of vehicles we will be able to purchase.

Edgecrusher71
Reply to  JacksonVike

Yes, yes they were. They were trying to make flag banning illegal. Hell it’s still the right that has an issue with people taking a knee. I disagree with taking a knee. When I was coaching football on the Rez and kids said they wanted to kneel, I said you have every right as a civilian to take a knee, but you can do it as a civilian in the stands. Not while wearing equipment paid for by tax dollars. BUT, if someone wants to do it, that’s their right.

It was the right that wanted a lot of morality items banned or laws against which also makes for a bigger government or in the least a bigger government presence in our lives. Like actual laws banning gay marriage… who was against that again?

Yeah Tipper was a bitch. Screw her and her husband.

But the late 80s and 90s was a big time deal with conservatives wanting to legislate morality.

Remember the school shootings? The Dems were trying to take everyone’s guns while the right was blaming everything on music, games, movies, etc… and wanted those banned or severely limited and regulated.

Neither side is above this stuff.

Trump has always been pro choice:

In an interview on NBC News’ “Meet the Press,” Trump said, “I am very pro-choice. I hate the concept of abortion. … I just believe in choice. Again, it may be a little bit of a New York background, because there is some different attitude in some different parts of the country. … I was raised in New York and grew up and worked and everything else in New York City. But I am strongly pro-choice.”

Edgecrusher71

So my argument here is they don’t stand on principle right? When it suits them they can justify anything. For example:

Arizona’s governor, Republican Doug Ducey, said he opposes adding seats to the U.S. Supreme Court.

“We shouldn’t be changing our institutions,” he told reporters recently.

Yet Ducey signed a bill that did just that at the state level in 2016, expanding the Arizona Supreme Court from five seats to seven. As a result, Ducey has appointed more judges than any other governor in the state’s history.

I know it’s not the US Supreme court but the idea is the exact same. Republicans are NOT above this idea of doing it to gain an advantage.

This week is national Radiologic Technologist week. Our department did a little “guess who I am” trivia. The hints are really tough. One is I LOVE TO PLAY VIDEO GAMES which I’m guessing people will think is me since I have mentioned my little driving station for Forza, etc. I actually haven’t touched the Xbox in about three months.

My hint is actually I have to eat a banana every day…EVERY DAY!

First, four years ago, after Harris ran a terrible campaign and came in last in the Dem (and first out) they demanded Harris be on the ticket as the VP. Biden caved.
Just one month before Biden dropped out, there was talk from the WH that Harris was a drag on the campaign. VP usually doesn’t matter, but with Biden’s age, it was an issue. The Biden camp wanted to replace her.
Then the debate happened and Dems. knew they were screwed. They wanted him replaced – but who? Obama and Clayburn then stepped up and said Harris or nothing, and if they did something differently they would lose the entire black vote.
So, as a party, they were forced into where they ended up. Big time power politics.

JR, good commentary, but you seem to forget, the only reason Kamala was the Dem candidate was the money. The Biden-Harris campaign had garnered a huge amount of campaign funds, and if anyone other than Harris became the nominee, all that money would have had to be returned, per Federal Election Commission rules. It was too late to start fundraising efforts for a new candidate, and no way in hell were the Dems letting go of that money.

Well no. One of the most damning things to education was the “No Child Left Behind” act which was put into place by Bush. That took a lot of funds away specifically from struggling schools.

I think it’s funny people around here pretend to care about the struggling inner city schools by saying take tax dollars away from those schools so they can send their kids to a private school making those inner city school worse. That’s like saying I care about the starving kids of this country, can I please have what little food they get to feed my kids?

Why couldn’t there be a private school for special needs kids that also gives those kids better treatment than they currently get at the public schools? I can tell you that there are many, many SpEd teachers that would be all over that. The teachers that teach SpEd do it because they love their kids. My mother in law could have retired years ago but refuses to because she cares too much about her kids. Imagine the good that would come if those same teachers didn’t have to deal with the government bureaucracy and were simply able to build a school designed fully around providing the best environment for those kids.

Edgecrusher71

Private schools can accept special needs kids but they don’t have to. If they accept federal funding then they should have to.

bowbunch

They wouldn’t be getting federal funding. I would get my tax money back, or a portion of it at least, to offset the money I am paying. The problem with forcing them to take SpEd kids is that the schools are typically smaller so the percentages don’t work. A small enough school would just randomly have a kid show up from year to year and wouldn’t necessarily be able to guarantee a job for a teacher. If it were me, I’d start a small private school and a small SpEd school and you could bring the kids together for certain things (really no different than what the public schools do). The SpEd kids would end up with a better situation than the current public school situation and the regular school side would be great.

bowbunch

Reply to  bowbunch
6 November 2024 10:46 am

Tell me that if you had a SpEd kid you wouldn’t prefer to send them to a SpEd designed school over a public school. If I had the funds and there were vouchers, I know enough people that care so much about the education of SpEd kids that I could open up a ridiculously successful SpEd school tomorrow. The problem is that people can’t afford that. Give those people their tax money back and let them send their kids to a school designed around the abilities and disabilities of their kids.

Like seriously? They don’t need more religion classes and a book shoved down their throat that supports slavery. School choice would be an easy start. If people are leaving the public schools, then they don’t get as much money but they won’t need it anyway because they will need less teachers. A teacher could take on 5 kids privately, take the voucher money, make way more than they do in the public system and the kids get almost one on one education. The bad ones will be weeded out and the good ones will thrive. Get a half dozen good ones together and start a small private school. Grow it like a real business. If you bring in the good teachers, the students will follow.

I am glad Trump won, he was the better option. With that said I am very much looking forward to commenting on here. I think I have only been here during the Biden Puppet Administration. We can all agree no president does all bad or all good things. But in my time here literally 99.9% of everything posted about the executive branch has had a bad take on it. I am sure it will now be 99.9% good. If that does happen… be honest with yourselves… you have built yourself an echo chamber and you have become very, VERY biased and swayed by it. Either that or you don’t actually care about the reality of things and just care about pushing an agenda you’ve been conditioned to push from your echo chamber. Biden did a lot of stupid shit, it wasn’t all bad. Trump will do some good things… it won’t be all good. I got a funny feeling only the good Trump will do will be posted and the bad will be ignored or defended… it’s how identity politics works.

As far as SD goes… I don’t understand why they won’t just legalize recreational weed… it’s so dumb.

BUT even dumber than that, the state of SD doesn’t want the governor referred to as “the governor” they prefer “he.” SO, Governor Kristi Noem shall not be referred to as “The Governor” but rather as, “he” that’s some funny shit. Tells you how stupid the voter base is in SD.

Incredible. They just immediately think, THIS IS A WOKE ITEM MUST VOTE NOOOOO!!!! And what’s funny is people who are against preferred pronouns are like, “we should call a he a he and a she a she, people should be called what they are!” Our governor is a she… but they want them referred to as a he…

I would bet it was written on the ballot by somebody who wanted it to fail and the vast majority of the population is too stupid to research things. The abortion initiative here was the same thing. They worded it so that if you didn’t know what it really was it sounded great. Same with the two voting initiatives here. If they’re going to put initiatives on the ballot, then it should be the actual text of the law. It is too easy to word things to make them sound good or bad.

Was there more involved with the initiative. Like, in Minnesota, they had an initiative to extend money from the Lottery going to clean water initiatives. However, they added that it would no longer be controlled by the legislature, it would be controlled by an appointed panel, made up of DEI hires. I voted no, due to the appointed panel. Doesn’t mean I don’t want the money to go towards clean water.

No, the only thing it did was change the wording in the state constitution from “he” to “the governor”

Seems odd they would elect a woman governor but not refer her to as the governor or she, maybe she didn’t give enough blowjobs in the corn field?

One thing I am interested in watching is Elon entering the government with a giant pair of scissors. I am curious to see how that shakes out.

Happy with Presidential result. Annoyed with my state of ND. Legalize weed you cowards! I thought for sure that one would pass. Just stupid.

Ill puff puff pass in rare occasions. Also enjoy edibles when I can get my hands on them. Even if I didnt smoke I know plenty of people that do, as well as use products for pain that arent available here. There’s zero good reason to not have it legalized at this point, besides old people scared of the stigma of Mary Jane by the lie that has been pushed since the 1930’s. End rant.

It’s just so stupid it’s not legal. So, so stupid. I rarely partake anymore. My wife had a THC drink last night… slept like a rock lol.

I don’t fight alcohol buzz and have gotten better about weed but sometimes the buzz for some reason I fight it instead of letting go. My meditation routines have helped with that.

Not a big issue to me one way or the other. Smoke, drink in their own home, good by me.

There is a reason little old Glendive has 7 dispensaries, and rakes in the tax dollars.

Is the billboard still up at the border warning people to pay their taxes on tobacco? I laughed at that one so many times.
