Happy Thorsday, everyone, and welcome to Skoloholics, your home for Minnesota Vikings Discussion! Every day you can join us for the latest Minnesota Vikings news, lots of Minnesota Vikings talk, also NFL news and updates, and most anything else you may have on your mind. At Skoloholics, the real action is in the comments, so if you haven’t checked out the comments section yet, sign up and join the conversation.

The week is just beginning (for me, anyway), and it’s almost over, only two days until the weekend. There are quite a few playoff teams playing games with no real meaning who will sitting players, something to keep in mind for those of us in pick ’em leagues & such. We watched Sonic 3 at the theater yesterday, it was a pretty good movie. Probably not as good as Sonic 2, but still a damn good kids show. If you’re thinking of going, I’d say it’s worth it.

Jordan Addison

There was talk earlier in the year that the Vikings may move Jordan Addison in the offseason. Addison had a speeding ticket (doing over 100 mph), and got a DUI. I’m not sure if those are the reasons they’re thinking of moving him, but I’m sure it’s part of the consideration. I’ll go on record as thinking that it’s completely stupid to get rid of the kid. From all accounts/reports, he’s done his time & seems to have taken repsonsibility. He’s a good teammate, and his talent is undeniable. Dude’s in his early 20s with 7 figures in the bank. If that would have been me, I wouldn’t be alive today, I can guarantee you that. If the kid seems to have learned from his mistakes, then support him & let him move on. You don’t throw someone away over stupid mistakes. Just my opinion.

Vikings-Lions

The Vikings won’t be resting anyone, that’s for sure. The upcoming Vikings-Lions game might be the game of the year. I hope the Vikings are up to the task and can find a way to come out of Detroit with a win, the NFC North, and the top seed in the NFC. To do that, the Vikings defense will need to do something to limit Jared Goff and the Detroit offense. They got carved apart for much of the first matchup between these two teams because they had little luck in getting pressure on Goff. Flores will have to dial up something special to slow down the Lions offense. If they can at least limit Detroit’s scoring, then I have no doubt that the Vikings offense can score enough to get a win. We’ll find out in a few days.

Vikings News

A Vikings @ Lions game preview from Vikings.com.

From the Pioneer-Press, Aaron Jones says he wants to finish his career with the Vikings. I love how Jones plays the game, he’s a strong runner who seems to always get a couple more yards than you think he’ll get on a run. He’s provided life for the Vikings rushing attack for the first time since Dalvin Cook was here.

“This is an excellent place,” Jones said. “This is where I hope to finish my career.”

Lions LB Alex Anzalone is working toward returning from a broken arm for the Vikings game, according to Fox Sports.

NFL News

Jimmy Garroppolo will get the start for the Rams on Sunday as Stafford will sit, per Fox Sports.

Keep up with the latest injury news from around the league on CBS Sports’ injury tracker.

From NFL.com, Packers CB Jaire Alexander had his knee scoped and is likely out for the season. The Packers might get bounced in the first round, which would be fantastic. Also, Tua’s status is unknown for a must-win game in week 18 and Josh Dobbs will start for the 49ers. I’m happy to see Dobbs get another start, hopefully he has a good game.

Aaron Rodgers acknowledged that Sunday may be his final NFL start, per ESPN. Rodgers currently has 499 career TD passes. The way that offense is playing, there’s no guarantee that he’ll get to 500. Finishing with 499 would suck. For him, anyway.

Media Selection

I love the podcast Coffeezilla, he does a lot to expose scams & does REALLY good investigative work. Here he is on Joe Rogan, dude seems like a really nice guy.

Thread Guidelines

  • Keep politics out. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down the rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
  • Be cool to one another. Like it says above, just be civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone and that’s fine, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument not the poster.
  • Keep the NSFW to a minimum. We don’t need anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
  • All in all, be adults. Treat each other with respect and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. If you want to reach out about something feel free to ask. We want to have robust discussions, that’s why we’re here, just be civil.

1/2 a sack will get Cashman a 250k bonus. That’s some good motivation.

Aaron Jones wants back.

I bet we sign him to a 2 year deal. keep his cap hit low.

I won’t be shocked if Murphy leaves, but Bynum stays.
I also won’t be shocked if most defensive lineman who are FA stay as well.

Who is Aaron Jones?

I watched the game last Sunday, heard them talking a lot about Josh Jacobs. He is simply amazing. He can do it all, half back full back double back baby back.

Why can’t we get a guy like Josh Jacobs?

when he plays on sunday night, he will have played in all 17 games this year…

he’s going to break his career high in rushing yards and needs 88 total yards to break his record for most total yards in a season..

he’s a great pass protection rb and he catches well out of the backfield..

he’s been everything we’ve needed him to be for us.

And has probably been hurt in every game.

midway through the 3rd quarter we always seem to be 34 passes 16 runs

They are setting them up as the underdogs for the playoffs since they know Mahomes would never go to the Pro Bowl anyway.

“This Mahomes guy is amazing! Can you believe he wasn’t selected for the Pro Bowl? What a slap in the face! It just goes to show that everyone and everything is against the KC Chiefs. Only the pure love of Swift and Kelce will see them through this dark night and to a Super Bowl victory. Gather, Swifties, gather! Rally behind this poor blighted team and their poor, maligned, disrespected QB!”

The three QB’s that did make the pro bowl pretend games for the AFC are all having much better seasons than Mahomes.

Mutual friend and her husband claimed they found me a wife back in mid December. Her husband is in the National Guard and this gal is his co command for the unit, they send me a picture of them at their units Xmas party. Shes pretty, blonde (yay). So my friend hypes me up to her at the party, few weeks go by, we start chatting on the phone over snap chat, and have been talking pretty regularly. She moved from Fargo to here on Monday. Talked her into coming up to say hi to me while I was bartending on New Years Eve so that was the first time we met in person. She’s STUNNING. On top of this she hunts, fishes (more than I do) and we’re into the same music. Going out for drinks tomorrow night to really chat. I feel like im out kicking my coverage here but im going to ride it out.

I have had labs my entire life and this anal gland thing has never been an issue. I had one that needed his ears cleaned after swimming but luckily he was one of the few labs that didn’t know how to swim. As it turns out, I’m now on my third lab and he also doesn’t swim. He knows how to, but just doesn’t care to. Second lab was normal and you couldn’t keep her out of the water.

The evolution in our house goes from one or the other of the dogs licking their groin in classic Lab fashion SLOCK SLOCK SLOCK SLOCK at 2 am, in the morning, “help me do the dogs glands” where my role is to play the supportive spouse praising the dog while holding a wet paper towel (postprocedural wipedown), followed by preventing the vile beasts from trying to lick the discharge.

Genius marketing and a new high intensity cardio workout combined in one.

We bought a new “modular” couch system, came in about two dozen boxes, $8000 and they get us to put the system together, stupid Americans. We thought it would take us a couple of hours yesterday, what a laugh. Each piece (seat, back, arm) had to be unpacked and prepared for assembly, the upholstery stretched on (my hands are still aching), and then by getting in a variety of highly stressful physical poses (at one point I had one foot planted on the edge of a cushion with my thigh in maximal abduction with the other leg flexed to the point my knee was at head level) each piece gradually assembled to the adjacent ones. Good news is my GPS watch said I burned 4000 calories. Bad news is I feel like I gave birth to a hippopotamus.

I honestly think this game is a toss up. The teams know each other inside and out. Lions will run a couple trick plays, but they probably won’t try a fake punt. The Vikings seem to be very good on fake punts for some reason.

The Lions beat us at home by two points. There was one turnover in the game (interception by the Lions). I think both teams will bring it on Sunday. I expect it will be a hard fought game, that comes down to the last few minutes.

I agree with keeping him. His mistakes may not be fully behind him yet because people mature at different speeds and it’s tough to change that fact, but…..

Factor in that the mistakes he’s made are (IMO) on the lower end of the severity spectrum. When you compare him to others in the NFL over the years – (dogfighting, wifebeating, kidbeating, sexual misconduct with minors, etc) – speeding is meh…..the DUI is the more concerning of the two issues he’s had, as that could have ended badly for him and others.

You have to think that he has gone through the mandatory classes, and is likely on a short leash with team management, but if they were going to move on from him because of his 2 issues, they’d have done it already.

I could see them move him to acquire draft picks, though, but even there – the bird in the hand……..

If it’s not in the cab then you don’t have control of the vehicle. Probably depends on the wording of DUI rules from state to state a bit. DUI is also one of only one or two vehicle violations that you can be charged with while not on a road. Technically, you could be charged with DUI on a golf course or driving through a field.

Northwoods
Reply to  bowbunch
2 January 2025 11:32 am

In WI they changed the charge from DWI (Driving while Intoxicated) to OUI (Operating Under the Influence) many years ago, likely to increase state revenue and cover the new and exciting ways to numb your brain.

The terms of my charge was something along the lines of having “proximity and opportunity” to operate the vehicle.

My line of thought was I have hunting weapons, and I pass gas stations and banks every day, so I have proximity and opportunity to rob the places at gunpoint, but I’ve never been charged for THAT.

They don’t GAF about my line of thought, I’ve found out.

one Of my brothers had his license revoked, in his early 20s. He continued to drive and there was one particular officer that would wait until he was just about eligible to get his license back, and pull him over, extending the revocation.

He was determined to get his license back, so he didn’t drive for like 3 months before he was eligible. He worked in road construction and was working on a very cold day. The boss had a truck running so the guys could warm up every so often. My brother says in the drivers seat, not thinking he would get in trouble, since the truck was parked in the ditch. Said officer drives by and sees him in the truck and fines him and he had to wait another year.

First time we encountered an anal gland emergency was actually shortly after we got married, we were travelling through Regina (this Regina – anal gland diad sounds like a Seinfeld episode). Our vizsla had a spontaneous discharge in the back of our SUV and the awful smell had us looking for Febreze (which does not exist in Canada, be forewarned).

The old small town vet taught my wife how to take care of it. I scrape and brush the teeth, clip the nails, clean and irrigate the ears, but she is the queen of the anal glands.

Speaking of odd doctors, our vet is competent, but odd. He came from Minnesota so maybe that’s it. Had the dogs in for their shots and he does the review of symptoms right after I tell him they had been bird hunting four days (last week), and I covered 35 miles in those four days so they probably did 5x that. “How is Bubba’s energy level? Does he seem sore lately? Does he get plenty of exercise?” Then they do what I consider very dumb, they do a heartworm blood test on both (they are on heartworm prevention year round), but I know better than to argue about that as when we transferred Tuck’s records over from Best Friends there was a caustic entry when I got in a spirited argument with the front desk about needing a blood test when your dog is on continuous prevention (owner is a physician and states “he knows how vaccines and antivermicides work and his dogs are 100% compliant with medication, very aggressive”).

You don’t throw someone away over stupid mistakes. Just my opinion.

Thank God for that. Literally.

Far better to throw them away over “smart mistakes” I guess.

When do ‘Stupid Mistakes’ become ‘Bad Choices’ that reflect who you are??
I worked in prison and inmates will tell you that all their crimes were ‘stupid mistakes’.
There is a line, not saying JA has reached it yet, but I wouldn’t give him a pass just yet either.

and…. FTP!

I watched some college football yesterday, and while AZ State put up a very good fight, the better team won. I am also a fan of how the college game handles OT. The NFL really should change the shit system they have in place, and adopt what the college game does.

Happy Thorsday!

Jordan Addison

The question I have is how much more room on the leash do you have?

Reckless speeding for a dog emergency last year.
DUI this year.

I fully expect a third event this off-season.

He’s definitely a good #2 receiver.

I believe the Vikings could beat the Lions for the number one seed.

I would not put any money on it, and I am not particular expecting it. But I believe it is possible.

It is hard to explain the cognitive dissonance of it. Yet, I am pretty mellow about it, not too up or down about the game.

Viking fans know this intimately. Being capable of something is not the same thing as accomplishing that thing.
Which is why we have learned to ‘hope for the best but expect the worst’.

I put it around…

Lions 55 percent chance to win
Vikings 45 percent chance

It might be the kind of game that can get ugly for a team via turnovers. Bad idea to give the Lions extra possessions, but it is also not a good idea to give us extra possessions either.

I basically put everything on the table.

Could be a shootout.

Could be a blowout.

Aaron Jones needs to hold on to the football. Harry will get a pick to possibly end his home, regular season, career.

AJ slowed down a bit from earlier in the season, but if he holds onto the ball, I still like our RB situation better than the Dalvin Cook years.

Cook would start the year out as a stood, but man, he would fade in the back of the season.

I always thought they shouldn’t even play Cook until like week 8.

I think that is why I’m mellow. I don’t necessarily think it is the end of the world if we lose. As long as we get out of it injury-free, we are still in the dance.

He has 3 more years on his contract. They have at least 2 years before they should even consider getting rid of him unless he becomes a major pain in the ass or somebody offers them 3 firsts.

Same with all this Vikings might trade JJ talk. That would be asinine no matter what they do with Sam.
