Vikings Discussion
toThis will be brief, we’re leaving for Minneapolis in the morning. I’ve been working my tail off the past few weeks, and I’m whipped & ready for a long night’s sleep. I’ll post the next couple/few days from the Twin Cities, I’ll let you know how I enjoy my first NBA game. I haven’t even watched NBA basketball in MANY years, since back in the days when teams actually played defense and players got called for travelling. Now, they take five steps without dribbling, and you rarely see a contested shot. So I hear, anyway. I’ve seen clips on YouTube.
The Vikings have some positional needs. I think interior O line and interior D line are the most pressing needs as they launch the offseason. After that, it really depends on how many of their own free agents that they bring back. The secondary could be a huge need if they don’t manage to bring back guys like Byron Murphy, Harrison Smith, and Cam Bynum. The defense has progressed steadily over the past two years under Byron Flores, he seems to have an eye for talent and knows the type of players who will thrive in his system. They’re not afraid of personnel turnover, and seem to find ways to improve positions even when replacing talented players. Everyone thought Danielle Hunter was irreplaceable, but they found a way to replace him without a dropoff.
KAM has had success in free agency, but he needs to have more hits in the draft. This offseason will be quite interesting once things starf happening.

From CBS Sports, Cam Newton said the Panthers were ‘a locker room full of losers’ when he arrived in Carolina, and Steve Smith is not taking that comment well. Steve Smith is one dude that I would NOT want to piss off.
A protester who disrupted the dumb halftime show was banned for life from all NFL sporting events, per CBS Sports.
49ers owner Jed York reaffirmed the team’s intent to extend QB Brock Purdy, from NFL.com. York said he intends for Purdy to be in San Francisco for a long time.

This is another rabbit hole subject that I love exploring, enjoy!

- Keep politics out. We are adults, news happens, and we can talk about it. What we don’t want is to go down the rabbit holes and turn a productive conversation into name calling and personal attacks.
- Be cool to one another. Like it says above, just be civil. You don’t need to agree with everyone and that’s fine, you also don’t need to make it personal. Attack the argument not the poster.
- Keep the NSFW to a minimum. We don’t need anyone getting in trouble at work for hanging out here.
- All in all, be adults. Treat each other with respect and things will be fine. Mods will take out content they feel is pushing the boundary. If you want to reach out about something feel free to ask. We want to have robust discussions, that’s why we’re here, just be civil.

Tucker Carlson has raised serious concerns about the integrity of U.S. weapons shipments to Ukraine, warning that up to 50 percent of the weapons sent to aid the country’s defense are being resold on the black market.
His findings, which challenges the oversight of U.S. military aid, highlights fears that American-made weapons could end up in the wrong hands, further complicating an already volatile situation.
Carlson’s revelation has sparked debate over the effectiveness and accountability of U.S. support for Ukraine in its ongoing conflict with Russia.

Jets have hired Rick Spielman & Robbie Paton to their football department.
Rick was hired as the Senior Football Advisor… whatever that is.
We’re heeeeeeere
Great! Glad you’re safe.
Taking a tour of US Bank stadium on Thursday.
Nice. I have considered attending a game there, but the crime rate bothers my wife.
We’ve been to many games there, never done the tour before. I think we get to see the locker rooms & such. Hopefully they’ll let me take pictures.
Fingers crossed.
When will a real sports journalist ask KAM what he sees as the team’s biggest needs, and what his plan is to fix them?
it is a great question, but not one you will get a real answer to. No need to divulge the plan and let the other 31 teams know what you are going to do. Plus, I would assume, he has multiple pivot points in his plan based on what happens. All we can do is sit back and watch
KAM talks for hours and says nothing.
Ivy league educated
Why would he tell the other 31 teams his plans?
Duh, they already know DE. I want to know if KAM knows.
Trump has been working to bring in “new” money to the Nation, and has garnered around $3 Trillion in investment commitments from Japan, Saudi Arabia, and others. The more he does this, the less the National debt is levied on us. He has real solutions for real problems.
I’ll believe it when I see it.
Not sure he can just write a check to pay down the debt.
He can’t. He has many levers he’s working but increasing business growth by 3 trillion dollars in his first two weeks in office, has already improved our debt situation. He has much more in mind, and the solution is sensible for paying down the debt. Practical, prudent, and pragmatic.
So, I’ve seen the Dem’s ranting and raving, and swearing to God they will fight Trump to the death. In the courts, in congress, imn the streets… blah, blah, blah.
They are fighting what though? Cutting massive Government fraud, waste and abuse? Fighting the deportation of violent illegal aliens? Fighting ending the FEMA and USAID corruption? Fighting against ending the mutilation of children with gender reassignment surgery? Fighting against ending taxpayer funded woke ideology initiatives overseas?
Dear Dem’s… over the last four years you conducted a Pearl Harbor raid on this country, and bombed the shit out of us with your woke, and insane ideology. Unfortunately for you, like Pearl Harbor, you awoke a sleeping Giant. And that Giant is putting its foot down.
Yeah, they are fighting their own corruption being discovered and want to continue getting handouts and payments under the table.
I am seeing lots of humanitarian arguments.
“6.3 million Africans will die of AIDS if this program is removed.”
Stuff like that.
I even seen one of my dingbat friends on Facebook posting with utter seriousness that women will lose the right to vote with the SAVE Act.
I also like the “Elon will have your social security number” rant.
I’m like…hackers already have my social security number from data breaches. Elon might as well have it too.
Elon owns PayPal. He has your social security number, your address, your phone number, your email address, your bank account number, and your credit card number. Please… Dems… you are dumber than a box of hair.
We’re not.
Love the DOGE clock. It currently reads 38 billion in savings….Not bad for 3 weeks of work.

Been wondering if there was such a site. Awesome!
I am going to Vegas in a few weeks….Anyone have any good, moderately priced restaurant recommendations on or near the Strip?
Tough to do these days on or near the Strip. You’re going to pay the Strip tax on everything. Where are you staying?
I recommend Mon Ami Gabi in Paris Paris for brunch btw.
Staying at the Luxor.
Thanks for the Mon Ami Gabi recommendation, I will check it out.
Long John Silvers, 4855 South Forth Apache Road.
Minot used to have one of those. I liked it.
Unfortunately the one you are listing is 12 miles from the Strip.
Last time I went to a Long John Silvers was in Mankato, MN, and it seemed like it was about 15 minutes before the place was going to close down for good. Very sad experience.
It did close shortly after, so I was not far off.
Lol
Tyler Booker is the top offensive guard in the draft, projected to go #67
Shame we don’t need interior offensive lineman isn’t it.
The best Guard in the draft is ranked #67? How good, or not, is he?
Probably better to find a free agent.
We have the #97 pick in the draft?
This Drafttek chart shows that we do.
They are probably speculating what me might get for compensation for KC.
https://www.drafttek.com/NFL-Trade-Value-Chart.asp?RequestTeam=min
You will not believe this, but I searched for players drafted at 97 to see if there were any big names. A deep-cut Vikings reference I sometimes make came up.
Steve Dils was drafted at 97 in 1979!
Vikings also took Hunter Goodwin there in 1996.
So, yeah…we got that going for us…
But Brady was picked at #199 so there is a chance to get a future HOFer with #97.
Done deal.
Minneapolis people, where’s a good seafood place?
None. Seafood is trash. Get a good steak.
Couldn’t read what the GIF said, but it’s Ron Swanson. You get the point.
Was in Hawaii for eight days – fish, fish, fish. Couldn’t wait to get home and have a great steak!
Totally understandable. We have some of the best steak at home in our freezer, so we usually eat seafood when we travel.
Haha just giving you a hard time since I don’t like any seafood. Thus, I don’t have any personal recommendations. But Pittsburgh Blue in Maple Grove has some good steaks and supposedly good seafood, though it is expensive.
There isn’t a place that’s gonna have better steak than what I have at home, so I tend to try to find seafood when we travel
You have much luck living up North finding good seafood. Down here, it’s everywhere which is understandable.
Not really, places with fresh walleye are the best seafood up here.
Ahhh your ‘dress code’ comment up above makes more sense now.
For me, like you we have great steaks at home. So when we go out try to find really good Italian. And this can be iffy, but when you find one, it can be great. And it seems with Italian price is not the driver of quality.
We had some awesome Italian food out in Boston. An old family owned joint, I think it was called Anna’s, in the old part of town, near the north end.
Down here, there’s a place that has a seafood medley(clams, oysters, fish , lobster, muscles) in a spicy red sauce over pasta that is sensational. Right now, my favorite dish.
Probably had Capone sitting in the back room!
Fresh Canadian Walleye.
I guess if you pay enough for it to be shipped/flown in.
Seems less than ideal to me though.
Best part of living on the west coast was the seafood. The only thing I miss about out there besides the ocean.
OceanAire
That’s the one I had in mind. Maybe we’ll try that. Do they have a dress code? It doesn’t say anything on their website.
True story I have never eaten at a place with a dress code, other than you should be dressed. Now, in training there were a couple of shindigs on Mayo’s campus where I wore suits, but that was more about eating with a bunch of your peers and evaluators and standing in front of them giving a presentation of your research. Usually a suit plays better than shorts and flip flops in that situation.
I wore jeans and a golf shirt. I saw a few people in suits, but most were casual.
Really the best place in town for seafood, imo.
Is Capital Grille still open? They were pretty good but expensive.
Capital Grille was still open when I was there a few months ago. I agree, very good but expensive.
That’s where we ate, it was amazing.
google a place close. Cold as hell out.
Yeah, we’re trying to stick close to something by the hotel. I don’t feel like getting shot.
LOL. The good thing about cold is scum lay low too.
Hoping to park at the hotel tonight & not move the car until we leave on Thursday.
Don’t forget to plug yore car in.
i don’t think we have one on this vehicle. We have a heated garage at home, never need a block heater.
We’re staying at the Marriott downtown, close to the basketball joint
Go Minn for seafood?
Makes sense since it is so close to the ocean.
Find some good Walleye.
Good point. Maybe Manny’s steakhouse, they have good seafood there
I’m a little too blue-collar for the places with dress codes, though.
Long John Silver’s at 378 South Avenue in Bloomington…
Too fancy, I didn’t bring my suit and tie
Win the superbowl, riot (mostly peaceful though) in the streets.
The city of brotherly love I guess.
They are ass-clowns
Totally
And yet the NFL will say something like ‘ The great Philadelphia fans.’ Bunch of idiots.
They also said the national anthem performance was “stunning”, although to their credit, they didn’t say in a good way (though that’s what they were implying).
Nothing great about that city, besides its history, which is history
Couple of good restaurants, that’s about it.
LA did the same thing but not as much as Filthadellphia.
Alcohol is a hell of a drug.
Inbreeding is bad, too. Filthadelfians marry their cousins like it’s a good thing.
I thought that was Appalachia??
It’s a little known fact that the Appalachians from West Virginia founded Philadelphia.
Feels good to be on the road, much needed break. Sometimes you don’t realize how much you need a break from the grind until you get away.
Keep your eyes on the road mister.
Stay safe, avoid the crazies and remember it is better to get there late than not get there.
I’m only doing 80, relaxed today.
80 is a good number.
Actually the speed limit on most of Idahos freeways.
I’m in chill mode today, no hurry.
MMM
Chilli sounds good as cold as it is.
Speed up when you get chance. Would get run over down here.
This is for all you fans of 1950s British sci-fi movies. I know there are a lot of you!
Why is there a picture of child abuse at the top of this page? Poor kid being forced to wear Puker gear?! Oh the humanity!!
I am going full glam today…
Cam Newton has a pretty big ego for a guy who wouldn’t jump on a fumble in the Super Bowl or whatever it was. Guy is a joke.
He just made a ‘business decision’.
Yeah, some people would call that being a “loser”. haha
He better hope he doesn’t run into Steve Smith.
Who is the guy with Addison? He would be good in the “brotherly shove”.
KOC tells us Darnold will not be back without saying Darnold will not be back (but makes it rather clear).
My thought is that the Jones acquisition signals their intention for the QB1 at the start of 2025.
Jones is Come Back Player of the Year 2025. Book it!
JJ is now too stringbeanish to start next season. Once Jones starts lighting it up, they won’t be able to take him out.
Ummm…
Black don’t crack, though!
But back when they got ‘Danny Boy’ Sam was considered all that and everyone was debating what to do with JJ (QB) since we were keeping Sam.
I think it is all about keeping your options open. Once Sam shit the bed in two big games they were going to go with JJ with some insurance. If that insurance is Sam on a Tag, or Danny Boy on a short deal, or Mullins or some other cheap vet that KOC can fix is yet to be worked out.
The next few months will be interesting.
I personally do not want us to be sinking a significant portion of the salary cap into the QB position when we have a QB on a rookie deal. Better to cut bait and hopefully pick up Jones on another $10M deal and try and get some muscle on the lines. We’re fooked in terms of draft picks and I have little faith in the scouts to pick up diamonds in the rough later in the draft (a la Roseman et al), so it’s going to take cash.
Mostly agreed.
Although we did ok with late draft choices last year.
Not great but not bad and late draft choices are a crapshoot.
Sorry, what I meant is currently we have the 24th pick in the 2025 draft, and two late round picks in the 5th. So we either trade the 24th pick for 7 7th rounders or hope for the best and get one or two starters.
That’s Slicks strategy.
I think Kwesi would get two seconds for his trade.
Two seconds for the 24th pick? I don’t see it.
You are right, trade back to 28-32 and a late 2nd rounder.
By trade chart, two mid round seconds equals the 24th of the first round.
But one team has to have two 2nd rounders.
Is why I was thinking a trade back 10-18 spots to pick up that teams late 2nd rounder.
Of course a player that they really want would have to fall to 24 but stranger draft day deals have happened.
Thanks DE, didn’t know that was the trade chart standard. Appreciate the info. Of course as you said, now a trading partner has to come up with two seconds, or some sort of equivalent.
We might get a 3rd round compensatory pick, so that would be nice. I’m hoping for a trade down, but not past 32. There are 8 teams that we can try and swing a trade with to recoup a couple more picks.
I agree. I would even prefer Mullens (ish) as a backup vs overpaying.
Team needs to build around a rookie QB contract. If JJ is not the best ever, at least the IOL and Defense should be solid when they try again with a QB in round 1.
I think JJ will be very good, and the team will contend without overpaying a QB.
Now, the WR room….

Probably.
However, Jones is a free agent on March 12.
I assume he follows the most money.
Skoloholics Pick ‘Em League: The Final Analysis!
And with the sun set on the Super Bowl, the 2024 Skoloholics Pick ‘Em League comes to an end. Truly, it was an amazing journey of self-discovery. I laughed. I cried. I had reason to escape all my troubles for that brief period of time where I sat back and wondered if I should give Kirk the most middling confidence points possible because water is wet, the sky is blue, and Kirk teams will be .500 at the end of the day.
And let’s not forget the friends I made along the way. Basically, Little Fishin‘. He is a class act. He has never actually spoken to me, but I can just tell. As for the rest of you, I hate four of you for beating me, and I laugh at six of you for losing to me.
Let’s look at where everyone fell at the end of the year and hand out awards.
Rick Vice came in at the bottom. He only got picks in for about the first week. This is understandable. With a name like Rick Vice, who has time for Pick ‘Em League? Rick Vice needs time to drive his speed boat off Daytona Beach and arrest drug smugglers with a smoking .45 and smoking good looks. He wins the Don Johnson-Lifestyle Award.
Bowbunch came in at 11. Bow also missed picks one week or two because he was out killing elk with a rifle constructed from rocks, mud and his own ear wax. Some may laugh, but not me. When Elizabeth Warren goes on the warpath, I am going to join Bow at his wilderness survival compound and contribute by eating all of the food before it spoils. To make up for missing a week, Bow picked risky to try to gain extra points by upsets. I still bet he never gave Kirk more than eight points, though. Bow wins Ballsiest Strategy Award.
Freezy came in at 10. Remember that week when Freezy made picks but forgot to assign confidence points? I think that happened. Some might say Freezy is forgetful, but I know the truth. He knows he could win with all three of his arms tied behind his back, so he decided to give everyone else a chance. A man who has a lake house has already won at life. Freezy wins the I Have A Lake House And You Don’t Award.
Little Fishin’ came in at 9. He also missed picks a couple weeks due to computer errors. I’m not saying someone hacked him because they felt threatened by Little Fishin’s picking skills, but that is most likely what happened. I hope whoever did that is ashamed of themselves. All I can say is, it wasn’t me. I don’t know a think about entering a third-party PC via a fiber line after breaching a cortex firewall and running a password-cracking matrix based on the fibonacci sequence. Little Fishin’ wins the You All Wish You Could Have Your Whole Life In Front Of You Again Award.
JacksonVike came in at 8. Remember that time JacksonVike came in first in the weekly results? I bet he does. He will tell that story when he is sitting at the bar in the old folk’s home the same way Al Bundy pontificates about his four-TD game. JacksonVike wins the At Least I Came In First In The Weekly Results Award.
Surly Viking placed at 7. I don’t think Surly cares where he placed. He is still living on the high of Kirk being gone. He can ride that wave for multiple seasons yet. I can relate. Surly wins the No More Kirko Woo-Hoo Award.
DE sewed up the 6 position. I guarantee if he had a better supporting cast, he probably could have done better. It just shows you that Pick ‘Em League is a team game. If DE can pick up a new OL, better secondary, an RB, a better towel folder, a team counselor and a DOGE representative, he could easily get all the way to 5. The question is, will DE take a lesser contract to make this happen? I think he will. DE wins the He Wants To Retire A Skoloholic Award.
I came in a 5. I am actually pretty happy with that. I was all the way down in 10 at one point. I once again prove that my main skill is that I can outlast everyone and eventually win through attrition.
I’d rather be fishing just missed the podiums at number 4. I’d rather be fishing also worked his way up the ranks. He did not start high up, but through a series of clever picks, he rose up the ladder. On the other hand, he is in North Dakota, so what does he have to do besides look out the window at a frozen wasteland and think about Pick ‘Em League picks all day? Sadly, now that is gone, and now he only has looking out the window at a frozen wasteland, even in June. He wins the Send Him Good Thoughts Award.
Kirk is NOT still Good got the bronze medal. As you may remember, Kirk is NOT still good started the season as Kirk is still Good. This kind of thing reaffirms one’s faith in humanity. Sometimes people can change their mind. This bodes well for Aaaron Rodgers. Soon, we will all recognize his amazing qualities and love him the way Winston learned to love Big Brother. Kirk is NOT still Good wins the The Final Cut From Kirk Is The Cruelest Award.
NoDakRube wins the silver. Actually, my ascent from 10 to 5 looks less impressive now because NoDakRube also ascended from the lower ranks to only miss out on the top spot by two points. Dang, color me impressed. I did not realize it was that close until I just looked at the numbers. I’m going to give NoDakRube the Comeback Player of the Year Award. Screw Darnold. He blew it in the end. NoDakRube delivered.
Meanwhile, Bleeding Purple ‘N Gold wins it all! Bleeding Purple ‘N Gold was in the top spot so long that he basically built a house there and ended up putting on an addition, building an extra garage, put in a pool and decided to install solar while he was at it. Bleeding Purple ‘N Gold is basically the 2001 to 2019 Patriots and then the 2020 Buccaneers. Bleeding Purple ‘N Gold wins the Tom Brady Award.
Well that was fun. It gave us something to do during the season. I have never run that stuff before, so it was a work in progress. If we do it again, maybe we can figure out a way to have real awards. For now, not having to write weekly summaries is reward enough for me! It is also enough for…
i actually have 2 lake houses. if you wanted to edit or amend that statement…..
DOGE is coming for you…
that’s fine, i was an early investor in DOGE coin, so i’m sitting pretty
Did Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock meet at one of your lake houses?
thanks for doing that, Wrenage, that was fun.
Story of my life…Good but not great. Was an all-conference college football player – but at a small college, became a CEO – but at a small company, spent most of my life as a 12 handicap in golf (average is 15) – GOOD BUT NOT GREAT.
And now I finished 2nd in a twelve person competition – just once I wanted to be exceptional.
That’s actually a pretty impressive list of accomplishments. Better than 99% of most everyone else.
It’s been a good life, I have no complaints worth mentioning.
Accurate and perfect.
Thanks!
I am having a banner made to hang from the flagpole in my front yard.
Heck yeah. No matter what, you got to strut!
Good writeup – appreciate the time and efforts! Kirk was certainly not as good as I expected this year. When he started that rough stretch near the middle of the season, I had to change my name as it was apparent he had lost something. He’ll be a good backup for a couple years or a good broadcaster, but he’ll certainly have to take a paycut.
Kirk and Julie are freaking over this prospect.
I think he’s made enough money, but I can’t blame a guy for maximizing his salary every year. Genius IMO.
Wait until DOGE looks at Kirk-O…
lol
We aren’t complete socialist yet – at least not while Trump is still around.
Good morning, SKOL!
FTP!
FTP, and now begins the long slow slog until next season.
I wonder if Kurt and A-aron will bounce back next year, they’re both geriatric aged players in nfl terms, especially Rodgers, who were returning from Achilles tears, which typically takes quite some time to fully recover from.
i am guessing they both retire, or maybe I am hoping? Either way, they are at the tail end of their careers, and mediocre at best. I wonder if they still think they deserve 40 million or so to play?
If DAK is a 55 mil guy and Purdy is going to get 60, Rogers fully healed at 40 looks cheap.
No no, they are “Proven products that never faulter and should be given all the money an organization can throw at them”
you don’t comment during the season, but now that the season is over you do?
i’ve missed you
Yeah I’ve been busy, miss you too bb
I am slowly coming around to appreciate Tuesday. It used to be the most meaningless day of the week, but now I know I will at least have some laughs about Kirk.
i can’t get behind this “appreciation of tuesday” crap.
tuesday is by far the worst day of the week.
GM!
FTP!
SKOL!
Happy Tuesday! Kirko still sucks. (Not really, he is just a very overpaid but average QB with the best agent ever, leaving frustrated fanbases in his wake as he makes bank)
Kirk in his totality with how he affects a football team form money, to cringy fake leadership, to brain farts, lack of mobility, it all adds up to sucking. No amount of slightly above average stats changes that. If your brain is turned on at least.
https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcQ1Kyy4oKz4w2ITx5i8g3nXMP3R1T1FNWhnHw&s
is this how you think Kirk should be towards fans?
It would help…
Not at all.
Fans are frustrated because a Kirko-led team has never won a championship.
I do not believe there is a single former NFL team that he played for, where the fans are saying “Remember when we had Kirk? That was awesome”
Fans need to see reality. The QB plays a big role in winning games, but this is completely and utterly a team game as proven by both Mahomes and Brady, who have had their teammates win, and lose Super Bowls. Remember when the SeaHawks gifted the Super Bowl to Brady, when their defense intercepted Russell on the goaline? How about the two Super Bowls where the consensus #1 QB in the league couldn’t do shit, because his O-line couldn’t protect him?
No QB is gonna be great behind a bad O-line.
And you would be wrong at least with respect to Redskins ( having lived there). Many, not all, felt Snyder was an idiot for letting him go and then they suffered poor QB play for many years.
From 2013 to 2014, the Redskins went 7-25 and were the worst team in football. A week before the start of the 2015 season, after a dismal preseason performance, Gruden benched RGIII for the season, and made Cousins the starter. Cousins helped the Redskins get to a 9-7 record with great play, and win the division. Overall the Redskins went 24-23-1 with Cousins over his three years as a starter. Cousins put up great numbers and he was their only chance at staying in, and winning games. After he left in 2018, the Redskins went 36-62-1 over the next 6 seasons, and saw 11 different QB’s under center. The two years before Cousins became the starter, and the 6 years after he left, the Redskins had a total record of 43-87-1.
I think that shows Cousins value. He kept the worst team in football at a competitive level, when he was the starter.
Yeah, but he had such great supporting cast like….. Jordan Reed….. and DeSean Jackson….. I’m trying to remember anyone else playing for them around that time. Alfred Morris? He did a lot with a little. He’s not a transformational player, but very good by all metrics IMO.
Pierre Garcon, Jackson, Reed, and Chris Thompson out of the backfield. They had Trent Williams at left tackle, but the rest of the line was iffy in 2015. In 2016, the line was much better, and Cousins threw for over 4,900 yards. Then in 2017 the Redskins got rid of Jackson and Garcon, Reed got hurt, and the offensive line suffered so many injuries, they went threw 26 different O-line combinations by week 13. Cousins had literally nothing to work with, but still put up good numbers, and kept the Redskins in games. It was one of the most impressive QB displays I have ever seen.
I have 5 relatives who are Redskins fans and one very good friend. All of them say Cousins was a joke and disliked him.
Total opposite of your take.
I do not know any, or even remember meeting any Redskin fans.
Total opposite of your take.
#snicker
I lived there for 50 years and literally talked to hundreds of fans daily. Eat lunch for 20 years with six guys that are fans going back to Kilmer and Jurgenson
Then again. I said ‘many not all’. But appreciate what your ‘five’ thought. Knew a few of them, but most were RGlll fans.
DE, Cousins usurped the great RGIII who was the real joke, and played exceptionally well, on an exceptionally bad team. He was called Curt by his team president (Bruce Allen) and Allen even labeled Cousins a “stat padder” and a career backup, because he didn’t want to pay him what he was worth. Many fans bought into these false narratives as the media pundits pushed them as well. It all came from him usurping the #1 pick in the 2012 draft, after a ridiculous trade up deal, and all the egg on everyone’s faces (including the media). Fans loved RGIII, and they mostly wanted Cousins to fail, to show everyone that Griffin was not bad. When Cousins played at a high level though, and showed RGIII up, there was a whole lotta hate going on in D.C. That’s when the “he can’t win” narrative started. I saw Cousins as a very good QB on a very bad team. How your friends and relatives saw him, is their business.
And let’s be honest – having lived there – they called Shanahan a racist because he benched RGlll for Cousins. Remember, he and Obama were going to save the world.
Oh yeah, RGII said he would go into politics after his playing career, and follow in Obama’s footsteps, and people supported that. He had a great rookie year with Kyle Shanahan creating an offense that replicated the Baylor offense including the play call verbiages. He basically made it as easy as possible for Griffin, with one read plays, where he either threw the ball to the first read, or took off running. Shanahan did a masterful job, and Griffin won the Offensive rookie of the year honors. However, he also suffered a lot of hits and injuries while running around and summarily told Mike Shanahan he would no longer run that type of offense. He would henceforth only run a pro set offense, and be a pocket passer. Shanahan laughed in his face, and told him he was years from being able to do that, if ever. Then Griffin went to Snyder, Shanahan and his staff were fired, and the next two seasons, Griffin displayed to the world his total lack of ability to actually play QB in the NFL.
I remember when some Vikings fans lamented we didn’t get RGIII. There was a way to draft him, apparently, but I forgot all of the details.
I didn’t know that. The competition for the #1 pick in the draft was between Griffin and Andrew Luck, with the Colts ultimately deciding on Luck. To me it was a no brainer, and I didn’t see NFL potential in Griffin at all. That said, he was getting a ton of press.
Didn’t the Skins, against Shanahan’s wishes, give up like 3 number 1’s and a 2 to get RGlll. It was crazy.
Yes. When Allen brought Shanahan in, he gave him complete control of the roster. Then he and Snyder made some moves (like bringing in McNabb, and the RGIII trade) without his knowledge or consent. To his credit, Shanahan and his son worked overtime to make Griffin successful.
And it was Shanahan who took Cousins in the 4th round, and ultimately put all that egg on Allen’s and Snyder’s faces.
