Vikings Discussion and Random Thoughts
The Underwear Olympics will begin on Thursday, as the NFL Combine is underway in Indianapolis. GMs and head coaches from all 32 teams spoke yesterday, as the Vikings’ QB situation made them the focus of much attention. I found it
Vikings News
The Vikings have a formal meeting scheduled with RB Ashton Jeanty, per KX News. Jeanty was a star running back at Boise State and a Heisman runner-up.
At NFL.com, Vikings HC Kevin O’Connell talked about the Vikings’ numerous options at quarterback.
From the Star-Tribune, Vikings GM Kwesi-Adofo Mensah also commented on the team’s options at QB.
NFL News
Thanks to Rob for sharing this one from SB Nation. Terry Fontenot, Falcons GM, made some odd comments at the combine, contradicting previous statements by Kirk Cousins regarding an injury Cousins suffered last season. Cousins said he notified the team, now Fontenot says the team didn’t know. I think Fontenot is a nut job.
The Star-Tribune provides the schedule and other details on this week’s NFL Scouting Combine.
ESPN has updates from around the league, as coaches and GMs spoke yesterday at the NFL Combine.
Rob Gronkowski is considering a return to the NFL, according to Fox News. You’ll remember that Gronk un-retired before in 2020 when he came back to re-unite with Brady in Tampa, and they won a Super Bowl. The tight end is 35 years old, and hasn’t played since 2021.
Media Selection
I couldn’t find anything to play today, it’s too bad the NFL is greedy & won’t let people embed videos. I’ll just play the latest video by A.J. and Hecklefish, here’s the latest installment of the Why Files. Enjoy!

Apparently, bodies were mummified, which means an intent to preserve the bodies.
I figured that was rigor mortis but I guess it isn’t.
If we only had a DR around here to explain.
Are you talking about the Hackman case?
Yup
OK, They said his wife’s hands and feet were already showing signs of mummification, and I don’t actually know what that means. I think the point was, they had been dead a while.
But that’s not what mummification means.
It means an intent to preserve the body.
Im assuming the police and media are using the word incorrectly.
Yeah DE, I think you’re right. Like one of our Supreme Court Justices, “I am not a biologist” so I don’t know what the heck the officials were trying to say. My wife who has a Bachelor’s degree in Biology said she didn’t know what they were talking about either, so I feel much better now.
In the desert the dry air/climate can cause a body to ‘mummify’ naturally.
Is this what report was alluding to? I assumed so but you know what they say about ‘assumptions’.
Yep. But at least your commentary has a credible theory. I had nothing.
‘Immediately after death, specific changes occur in the human body, leading to the total dissolution of the soft tissues and internal organs. In some cases, when in suitable conditions, the decomposition process could stop and be displaced by mummification.’
I guess if it has been dry enough in Santa Fe, Arizona it could happen even in winter.

Fascinating. Thank you SoCal!

You normally can’t move around here without stepping on an Admin. Where are they all at today? It’s Thursday, right?
They are off doing some of that silly Real Life stuff I suspect.
I think DOGE has caught up with their grift.
So will we get back the $100 we had to pay to get on the site?
Money coming back?
Does that ever actually happen?
Yes, you are getting the $100 you paid me to join this sight back. All I need is your bank account number along with the tracking number.
Yep he should post the numbers here so that we can all ‘help’.
Just send cash like I did.
It’s O.K. I kind of like back to back Hump days, although at my age that does get challenging.,
Anything exciting happen while I was tied up for a week?
You escaped?
Need to work on better knots.
#grin
Haha yup.
Got lots done outside. Culled the score of rabbits under our shipping containers with my little Ruger 10/22. Dogs carried the carcasses around proudly. Got a new side by side in crew cab configuration because of course the dogs don’t like to travel in the bed of the side by side. Normally placid creek in our backyard thawed with a roar, highest I’ve ever seen it go, came up to within six inches of the lip of my shallow water well that I irrigate the trees and plants with.
Yeah yall are getting some major snow melt out there, and grounds far from thawed.
No kink shaming.
Gene Hackman and wife and dog dead? no foul play suspected? hmmmmm…..
He was 95 but she was mid 60s.
It does not pass the smell test.
https://www.foxnews.com/entertainment/oscar-winning-actor-gene-hackman-wife-found-dead-santa-fe-home
Could be CO poisoning, a gas leak, or mutually consented suicide.
Or robbery or blackmail gone wrong or murder/suicide….
lot of possibilities.
I think the dog did it.
The dead dog or one of the two healthy ones that were outside?
Ooo, a conspiracy!
Would assume CO.
Triple suicide seems like a lot of work.
Or they were implicated with Bill in the Epstein Files.
Hillary is probably taking everyone out that can point the finger in Bills direction and cost her money.
So, we will be electing a lot of new Congressmen?
Sorry, I usually stay away from starting political discussions.
Well the Senators will be appointed by the Governors, the Governors that survive the purge anyway.
Some news coming out now that there is some suspicious elements. Door unsecured. Pills. Hackman in separate room. Not sure what is what yet.
And they had been dead for awhile.
How long before Trump gets blamed?
He hasn’t yet?
Libs and their media must be slipping.
The only one I would have any confidence in would be Jones in Minnesota.
Total crapshoot.
We might see all 7 of them predicted to land with us before the Silly Season is over by ‘experts’.
4-7 already that I have seen.
When did Kirko Chains get a beard?
#potstirring
It’s
Not
I didn’t start it by posting the picture.
Trump said yesterday, that he will invite the Philadelphia Eagles to visit the White House after winning the Super Bowl over the Kansas City Chiefs. He was very complimentary of the team.
Looks like Philly said Monday they would go, if invited.
Fake news loses again.
‘He was very complimentary of the team’
He did not mention thier fans however.
Yeah…
President Donald Trump will host Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House Friday to sign an agreement with the United States to develop rare earth and critical minerals in the country.
This is huge. China has a monopoly on rare earth minerals, and now we will help Ukraine challenge their dominance, AND allow us to stop paying China for them.
#Leadership
Part of the Ukrainian Rare Earth Minerals are currently under Russian Control.
Hopefully that is not the part that they are signing over to us.
“Currently” being the key word. It’s about 20% of the total land mass containing the rare earth minerals in Ukraine. Something tells me this is something Trump is working on with Putin.
It is probably a sticking point.
Russia wants those minerals as well.
They could very well be at least part of the reason Russia invaded in the first place.
Yes, I’d think so.
Regarding Ukraine, there is a lot of commentary regarding evil vs good, with Russia being evil, that has been the narrative being promoted by the media. Do folks not remember how totally terrible and corrupt Ukraine is? They are not innocent victims here.
Corruption has been a significant issue in Ukrainian society going back to the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991.
After they declared independence from the Soviet Union, Ukraine faced a series of politicians from different sides of the political spectrum, as well as criminal bosses and oligarchs, who used the corruption of police, political parties, and industry to gain power. There was a lot of bad in Ukraine, and one reason Trump has resisted blaming Putin entirely for the war, is that this immense corruption spilled over onto the Russians living in Ukraine. Putin in some ways felt obligated to “right the wrongs” of the Ukrainian government, and alleviate the oppression of Russians living there.
Whether that was his real intention, or he just wanted Ukraine back under Russian rule, is up for discussion.
But the Ukraine was such a good friend of the Bidens.
So they were on the side of Merica.
So… by allowing the war to start, did the Bidens actually profit from it? Did Billions of dollars sent to Ukraine, benefit their business interests there? Did Biden let hundreds of thousands of people die, to enrich himself, and steal taxpayer dollars?
Somebody should follow the money here.
Zelensky did say that they only received a small part of the aid that the US says that they were sent.
Maybe Elon should check the cushions at FJPs place for the rest of it.
He might should…
My wife told me Tyreek Hill is signing with the Ravens. That’s big.
That could be huge, I thought Lamar took a step forward as a passer this year. Having a receiver like Hill will only help.
I really agree NoDak. Lamar, took a big step as a QB this year. He showed a lot more patience, and competence, in the pocket.
i see nothing on the interwebs to state this to be true…
is your wife a misinformationist?!?!?!?!
See what happens when X and facebook stop fact checking!!!
Hey Freeze, just asked her about it. She said she found out it was bullshit. She got it on a Facebook feed. Sorry about that.
i was just teasing, but yeah i looked and i couldn’t find anything.
that would be huge if it happened but i don’t think it will
I feel so betrayed….I just read on bookface that the house republicans passed a bill that will kill poor people and give tax cuts to billionaires…..why oh why would they do such a thing???
No such bill was passed last night. No bill was passed at all. Mike Johnson finally delivered when the House passed Trump’s sweeping budget blueprint on a party-line vote, 217 to 215.
This is step one in developing a bill that will be presented to the President.
It will be many months before a final bill is developed.
That’s what I was talking about, the budget blue print – giving tax cuts to billionaires and killing the poor people.
That is how the Democrats are trying to spin it.
Their credibility is not that high at this point that they can not be believed whenever they open their pie-hole.
Except this argument is a lie. The Dem’s want all the taxpayer money they can possibly garner. Do you know the tax cuts Trump got done in his first administration expire this year? Do you know that if those cuts expire, small business tax rates will shoot up to 43%? How do you think small businesses will be be affected by that? Under Trump, minority owned small business starts grew to their greatest level ever. Now all those folks will be out of business, if the Dem’s.get their way.
Of course I know all that, I was being facetious – sarcastic – ironic – whichever the best word is.
My libetard friends on facebook are all up in arms.
‘I was being facetious – sarcastic – ironic – whichever the best word is’
It that even allowed.
Bow, Quarterback helmets are equipped only with a speaker. The quarterback typically can hear the coach call a play from the sideline but that communication gets automatically cut when the play clock runs down to 15 seconds. I can’t believe you didn’t know that.
As to its effectiveness, every play call is part of the master plan for the game, where the OC expects the opposing defense to do certain things depending on down and distance, and they develop a play call sheet built to attack certain defensive sets, defensive tendencies, and defensive players in specific. These calls are planned for dozens of situations, and so the QB only needs to be told where to go with the ball. Of course, when the defense does something unexpected, having a QB who can see it, adjust, and deliver the ball to a different part of the field is optimum.
BTW this was put in place in 1994, so it’s been a long time since any rule changes were made. Nothing was changed due to the Rams coach use of the communication devices.
No shit Sherlock. The league cuts the coaches. Speakers aren’t any good if there’s nothing being transmitted to them. I’m surprised you don’t understand that. The microphone/transmitter is what is turned off, not the speakers. The point was that the communication is shut off with 15 or 20 seconds left on the play clock now and I think it shuts off if the team breaks the huddle so a coach can’t hold the hand of a QB like McVay did with Goff anymore. They can give him some pointers while calling the play but that is nowhere close to what you were describing.
You said in your earlier comment below:
“Not to mention the fact that they changed the rule and the headphones cut out like 20 seconds or more before the play clock runs out. When Zim did it to Goff, the mics didn’t cut until the QB was under center or there was less than like 5 seconds on the play clock. What he’s talking about doesn’t work in the current NFL.”
So don’t start this “no shit Sherlock” commentary with me. You didn’t know what you were talking about. I corrected the narrative to be accurate.
The 15 second rule was in effect when McVay was giving instructions to Goff. There was no rule change.
They have changed the rule. As soon as the QB breaks the huddle the mic cuts. The coach can not talk to the QB while he is under center. They basically changed it because of McVay. Therefore, there is no way for KOC to take away the QBs responsibility to “make sure everyone is lined up correctly, read the safeties and the middle linebacker, determine if the defensive is playing man, zone, or a combination of man and zone, calls out protection adjustments, and determines the “premier route” pre-snap” since most or all of that is determined at the line. If you can’t communicate with the QB after the huddle breaks, it’s kind of hard to tell him who the mike is unless you are going to use hand signals. You want to make snarky comments about how headphones work, I’ll react however I please. You obviously don’t know what the current rules are and are scrambling to save face.
Nope, the mike cuts at 15 seconds.
NFL Rule 5-3-3:
Article 3. Speakers In Helmets
The Coach-to-Player system allows a member of the coaching staff in the bench area or the coaches’ booth to communicate to a designated offensive or defensive player with a speaker in his helmet. The communication begins once a game official has signaled a down to be over and is cut off when the play clock reaches 15 seconds or the ball is snapped, whichever occurs first.
Google says 15s.
‘Communication cuts off at the 15-second mark on the play clock. Teams must stop using the technology if one team’s system malfunctions.Jan 3, 2025′.
This is just Bow being a dick to me SoCal. He somewhat routinely insists his anecdotal perspective outweighs my actual fact driven commentary. He digs his heels in, and insists I’m wrong. He never apologizes when I show him the data though. Just finds something else to attack me on.
I sometimes (often?) have old opinions that need updated.
Admitting I am wrong is not pleasant and I avoid it when possible. But sometimes it is so obvious that even I can’t ignore it.
Sometimes you just have to take the L and update your opinions.
I’ll eat crow when I’m wrong.
tastes like chicken
Be sure to get its relatives, Crows are smart and are known to carry grudges.
Laughing…
I think you are referring to Ravens vs Crows.
Those things can be scary smart.
Happy Hump Day! 🐫
Pretty late to the party today…
Once again I call your Hump Day and raise you a Happy Wednesday.
Anybody ever replace their spark plugs themselves? Surprisingly easy for a Rav4 (just did it for someone), a little more difficult for some other makes and models. I am thinking about replacing mine this weekend since my SUV has about 100,000 miles on it. Supposed to help with mileage and stuff too.
Also, does anybody use high mileage oil? My understanding is that it causes the seals (o-rings and such) to soften and swell slightly, which makes the engine more efficient again and “renewed”. But I also heard once you start using it, you can’t stop, for those reasons. Opinions?
Do you have to reset your timing if you replace your spark plugs?
Seems like you would but it is not area of expertise.
The Teacher uses the costly 100k oil, it used to be ‘life time’ oil.
Now they say she needs regular oil changes but with the costlier oil cause you can’t change back.
Glad I never switched as it seems like a scam to me, but then I am old and yell about everything.
I think the engine computer adjusts after installation and driving a while (at least on a semi-new vehicle – mine being 2015). Anyway, I looked up how long spark plugs last and it said 30,000 to 100,000 miles. I am close to that 100k lol.
Taco Ma is closing in on 100k but is also 18 years old and has never had/needed a tune up.
I had it worked on 18 months ago when it was due a smog certification. They fixed everything they could find, even soldered/repaired the temp/compass, a spark plug change was not required.
Yeah, I just don’t want one to go out and then cause a problem, so I might preemptively change them if I can manage. They have a hard angle on a few of them, though.
I just sold my 2014 F150. 256K miles. Original plugs.
I only use synthetic or synthetic blend at a minimum. It is better for the engine and lasts longer. I have changed plugs and on the same vehicle had to replace some of the coils. That vehicle was easy on 4 of the 6 cylinders. The others were a pain.
I always use synthetic too. But there is synthetic high mileage oil. Just curious if it is worth it or if it can ruin something if things are going fine.
I used to run the high mileage in my old truck, never noticed a difference, to be honest.
Pretty sure it’s basically the same thing. I think the high mileage is simply synthetic oil.
They are marketed as different products (who knows if they are essentially the same, just marketed different, however).
I assume you have a spark plug gauge to adjust the distance of the plug.
It’s been awhile since I have done it.
Maybe that is not even a thing anymore.
I use full synthetic.
I have never used the “high mileage” oil, but I have no desire to switch from synthetic.
They are supposedly set up properly out of box, but I did buy one (it was $4).
To reply like I did for bowbunch, they have synthetic high mileage oil.
KOC and KAMs comments at the Combine yesterday.
You can watch KAM on YouTube no problem.
He even invented a new word, Optionality.
At least new to me.
He was a good guy, North Dakota boy who graduated college from Concordia in Moorehead.
I guess both ND and MN can claim him some.
Since he was 93 I would lean toward B.
But with the deep state nothing can be ruled out.
Timing is a little convenient.
Does seem like a heck of a coincidence.
I understand his current contract means he will be due $25M the 3rd day of the new league year.
I don’t know if that can be worked about with a new deal since they are not going to pay him $25M for 2025..
Not sure where you got the $25 million number from.
His 2025 cap hit is $6.6 million.
He will have a $4.2 million cap hit in 2026 for his void years.
Got it from a Chris Gates article on the DN.
‘As Ben Goessling of the Minnesota Star-Tribune points out, Smith has a vet minimum salary for 2025 of a little over $1.25 million. However, if he’s on the roster on the third day of this league year, which is 14 March, his salary of $25 million for 2026 becomes fully guaranteed.’
I did mistake 2026 for 2025 but $25 M is still a concern.
https://www.dailynorseman.com/2025/2/24/24372160/harrison-smith-decision-needs-to-come-soon-minnesota-vikings-nfl-free-agency
I guess I know far less about the cap than what I thought.
This is Smiths remaining contract numbers.
Via OTC
His 2025 cap hit is $6.6 million.
He will have a $4.2 million cap hit in 2026 for his void years.
No $25 million bonus/payment due anywhere on his remaining contract. He redid his contract a few years ago.
🤷♂️
So the report/article was incorrect?
I rely on ‘experts’ to fill the multiple and huge gaps in my knowledge but at least I try to link in where I got the info.
There is nothing on OTC about it.
As an example, Kirko has roster bonus due.
Part of that is on his cap hit.
There is no roster bonus on Smiths cap hits. Only void year cap hits.
Spotrac shows it. How can cap websites be so different??????
If there is a $25 million payment due to Smith, he won’t get it.
It did not make a lot of sense being a $1.25M cost in 2025 but a $25M cost in 2026.
But then legal contracts are seldom logical.
i’m praying for a great awakening
Me too.
Obviously they need to upgrade their Nutritionist/Dietician.
Or maybe the ‘big guys’ don’t like being put on a diet so they vote down those guys/gals.
The Bungals got a big fat F for Food/Dining.
Cardinals and Bengals look to be the worst.
Everybody looking at the Nutritionist/Dietician:
Jake Tapper before the debate, about cheap fakes on Biden.
Jake Tapper now selling a book about the mental decline of Biden.
I just can’t fathom how they can internally live with their outright lying.
Well since he was on the ‘inside’ of the cover up he can sell his book on the scandal. Of course it will be written/edited to make him look like a hero.
Facts Be Damned!
Just bought a brand new 2025 Equinox.
First time in my 63 year life that I have ever bought a brand new car.
I feel poor now.
I was 50 yo when I bought the one and only brand new car. It was an equinox. Girls were playing travel softball and needed reliable vehicle to go to Seattle Portland Billings etc.
Anyhow, its was pretty maintenance free, (one $2k repair) it finally went south with 242k .on it.
We have a fleet (5) of Equinox’s at work.
They have been pretty reliable.
You got good use out of yours.
Got my Taco Ma when the nephews were young teens and we would be off camping and adventuring several times a year and so needed that second seat from the crew cab.
Once they became Full Teens and too cool to go off with us on so many adventures we didn’t need it so much. But since it was paid for and ran great I still have it. Looking at the cost of pickups now days I think it will be with me for awhile longer.
You ain’t kidding.
Some pickups cost more than a trailer home.
Good for you.
Good for you!!!
I long for the day when by 2011 Subaru hits a deer so I can go buy a new car. It is so hard for me to get rid of stuff that is working.
Drive fast. Take chances.
Enjoy it! You’ve earned it!
Well.
It’s my wife’s car.
But I get the sentiment.
As far as McCarthy goes, I think he’ll be fine physically before the start of training camp. I also really believe that KOC will put the offense together in a more QB friendly way in his first year of starting. He will tell McCarthy exactly where to go with the ball on every play call in his helmet. The first obstacle to rookies, is being able to actually spit out a play call confidently, in the huddle. A year in, McCarthy should be able to do that. The players know from the play call, what they are supposed to do. The QB usually has to make sure everyone is lined up correctly, read the safeties and the middle linebacker, determine if the defensive is playing man, zone, or a combination of man and zone, call out protection adjustments, and determines the “premier route” pre-snap. This requires immense study and understanding of the opponents defense, defensive players, play call adjustments, keys, and reads. KOC will eliminate pretty much all of that. He will give the route combination he is wanting to try and exploit, and if that isn’t there, scramble.
A rookie can be successful, if he has good protection, and knows where to go with the ball.
Agree with the Headphone Hack although as I remember when the Rams did that with young Goff back in the Zim era we hit our Defense assignments until just prior to the snap. It seemed to work well when they visited us. So it might be a bit more limited then we would like but better than not using it.
We do a version of that now and it caused issues for several you QBs (Brock) and since the NFL is known to be a copycat league……
Not to mention the fact that they changed the rule and the headphones cut out like 20 seconds or more before the play clock runs out. When Zim did it to Goff, the mics didn’t cut until the QB was under center or there was less than like 5 seconds on the play clock. What he’s talking about doesn’t work in the current NFL.
He did some of that with Dobby, Did the rule change since then?
We might not get as much time as the Rams/Goff did but enough to help out JJ (QB).
He can tell him some while in the huddle as far as where to focus (most likely), but I think it’s pretty much as soon as they break the huddle the mic cuts so if the defense comes out in an unexpected alignment or changes, it’s on the QB.
I think they actually changed the rule because of the Rams and Goff.
‘He can tell him some while in the huddle as far as where to focus’
Sounds about what he did with Dobby.
Every little bit helps, hope it is enough.
This assumes the crowd isn’t too loud at US bank that he can’t hear it.
What kind of loser would worry about the crowd noise at home?
Believe he is referring to KC and his ‘I couldn’t hear the headset’ comment in a Viking loss.
I don’t recall that. I just thought that was a weird thing to worry about, but for some reason am not surprised by the complaint.
Chargers. two minute drill.
Cousins couldn’t even get the team lined up to spike the clock because of the crowd noise.
Even said in his post game press conference the crowd was too loud for him to hear KOC to tell him what to do next.
I thought he was good enough to run the show himself in a 2-minute drill? That’s what a top tier veteran would do.
Nope. Not his fault. Up to the coach to hold the QB’s hand.
I can’t wait for a post game press conference when KOC makes a comment about JJ taking the reins in the 2 minute drill and how nice it is to be able to trust the QB to go win the game. Heads are going to explode.
Haha we’ll see. KOC has had plenty of brain farts at this point in his coaching career already, so he doesn’t deserve a pass, that’s for sure.
I don’t think I would trade for him.
But this picture screams “headcase” and not worth the effort.
Allen is a strong defensive tackle, and the Redskins have plenty of cap space, so I wonder why he wants out, and the Redskins are good with it. As far as the Vikings are concerned, the key word in this post is “trade”. We don’t have any draft capital to spend on Allen. He also has a $22 million cap hit this year. It doesn’t make sense for anyone to consider the Vikings as a trade partner for Allen and the Redskins.
He’s in the last year of his deal and his cap hit to a team trading for him would be $15.5 mill. They probably don’t want to give him an extension so he wants to get traded to a team that will sign him now.
Yeah, he’s in his 5th year, but he came into the league at age 26. So he’s already going to be 31 this year. Might be why the Redskins would be looking to trade him. He will be an unrestricted free agent next year, so time to get, while the getting’s good, as they say. Allen has no choice in the matter though. The Redskins can do whatever they want with him.
There seems to be as many good arguments for as against getting him.
Maybe we could get Trump involved in the negotiations? They would trade him plus some picks for us taking him off their hands if we sent them some liberals.
Maybe they’ll take some fresh walleye fillets and a Juicy Lucy.
Maybe something…..anything…..could leak that might be legit Vikings news.
‘legit Vikings news’
I know that the two of them were scheduled to speak at the Combine yesterday. I looked last night to find any video/reports of what was said, nada.
I will check again today but even if I find it I doubt it is anything useful.
GM!

SKOL!
Happy Hump Day!
Brad, I am enjoying the Why Files videos. Better than most network “entertainment” for sure. Fun stuff.
Im fine not overpaying for him. I like him, he has some tread left but dude was out every other quarter down the stretch. And again, our run game sucks because of our inability to be bullies in the trenches and open up lanes.
Agreed.
Jones just gets hurt too much to make him the lead guy in RB room.
i do think it was silly for people to be worried about how “skinny” he had gotten.
as if he doesn’t have a training staff to get him back to where he needs to be….
i’m excited for him to lead us to the bowl!
I’m always worried about a Vikings QB.
Roll to the Bowl !!
The protein powder is paying off!
I think it was was very silly, maximum doomer stupidity for people to have been worried about him.
I kind of like what Gronk is doing. As a big guy with injury issues, he is doing load management by taking seasons off and then returning in spot duty.
Why not, if you are him at this point in his career?
KOC loves tight ends.
I had a great time watching Gronk in the Buccaneers Super Bowl. I never watched him that much when he was on the Patriots.
His hands are so big it looks like he is catching a ping-pong ball. Okay, that is a slight exaggeration, but he is a big dude…
Yep.
Watch the Fox NFL pre game show and see Gronk standing next to Jimmy Johnson. Jimmy looks like a midget compared to Gronk.
No Kink Shaming.
Hey NoDak, sorry to hear about you being semi-DOGED. I also work for a non-profit that has a lot of federal grants. I know some people are nervous, but I haven’t heard anything about us losing any grants, but I guess I wouldn’t be too surprised. I know we had to take some language out of some documents to be in compliance with federal grants. I assume that was some DEI stuff. For one of our smaller federal grants, the project manager has been running ragged to get them all the stuff they want from us. For the one very large grant that I do the accounting for, I haven’t heard a peep from the project manager. However that one comes from the State so we are only interfacing with State people so far (of course the State gets that money from Federal so we shall see what happens when that renews on July 1). In about a year and a half I will be 62, so I am not too worried. In the worst case scenario, I will just ramp up my bookstore to full time and we will cut corners for a year or so.
What kind of people frequent bookstores these days?
Are they always a specific type or do you get all ages and types?
I imagine maybe you do a lot of online orders, too, though?
I need to visit more bookstores. Waldenbooks was never like that, though…
If I could have gotten rolls like that guy I would have considered acting back in the day.
My mom forced me to take some ‘acting classes’ during the summer as a young teen. I was not confident enough to be any good at it.
My bookstore is 100% online so I don’t see anyone. Judging by names, it is probably more older people, but there is a variety.
I really miss the days when brick and mortar bookstores were common. Barnes & Noble is cool and all, but it is not quite the same.
New books are just too dang expensive nowadays. I pick a new release paperback off the shelf, look at the price…$12.99…
For a paperback? No thanks…
I always justified the book expense compared to going to a movie. $12.99 is about the same as a movie ticket, but you get a lot more than 2 hours of entertainment.
I am good at justifying my spending habits. I miss real books, and still have plenty, but most things I buy now are digital. Having a few hundred books to read on the kindle is so convenient, even if paper books are still better imo.
I don’t mind paying $13 if it is an out of print book I’ve been searching for, but not worth it new to me.
I need to find a good used bookstore here in Idaho.
I donated 100s of books before the move and have dozens more that could use a good home. That would still leave me with 100s to display and maybe to read again someday.
If I trade for some books I need to complete some of my favorite series it would be a win for me. Here’s looking at you Bobby Lee Swagger.
There is one in St. Cloud I like. A couple years ago he broke it into two stores, though, so it is not quite the same.
Thanks VP, I haven’t officially heard for sure that the grants will not appear at some point, but it is not looking good. I can retire next February if I need to (age 59), but I would rather work a little longer.
At least they are trying something.
Sounds like a jerk.
Maybe that’s what’s needed.
Being nice to them did not work. I am fine with this approach.
Still need to upgrade the IOL talent, though.
Yeah.
I’d be fine with stud OL in round one, draft and FA.
RB, OL, DL
That’s it.
It sounds like KOC thinks he can fix the A-hole part of him.
Kumbaya Kev
I take KOC’s comments at the combine to mean that Sam is gone. It’s JJ time.
