Vikings Discussion and Random Thoughts
First, an update from Cybersprout, the developers of Skoloholics: You no longer have to change the “x” to “twitter” when embedding tweets! Those of you who know what this means will be elated.
Russell Wilson has finally found a new home, which means that the Steelers are all but a lock to be the next home for Aaron Rodgers. We’ve all known this for a long time now, but it’s just that much closer to being a reality. I’m glad to see that Diggs found a new home with the New England Patriots, that should help Drake Maye out A LOT. The Patriots didn’t really have a legit #1 WR for Maye to rely on last year, and he’ll need a go-to guy, especially now that they have Garrett Bradbury under center.
Nothing new in Vikings land, I keep expecting to hear that the Vikings traded someone to accumulate more draft picks. If I had to pick the most likely player to be on the potential trading block, it would be Jordan Addison. There were grumblings that the team would move on from the young WR prior to last year, and with a likely 3 or 4 game suspension looming ahead, he’s a possibility. He is young and talented enough to generate interest from other teams who would be willing to part with draft capital, which the Vikings desperately need.
Vikings News
From Vikings.com, The Athletic says left guard is the Vikings’ “biggest remaining need” heading into the draft. That’s fair. Although I will say that this is indicative of how much better the Vikings roster is compared to last year at this time. Brandel would have been our third-best lineman at this point a year ago.
CBS Sports reported that the Vikings haven’t handed JJ McCarthy the QB1 spot yet. Well, that’s good, because I hope they don’t ‘hand’ anyone anything. McCarthy agrees, I like this kid.
“They haven’t told me, and I’m happy they didn’t because I try to earn it every single day,” McCarthy said. “I never want that to be given to me and it’s just such a privilege and opportunity to give me that chance and I’m just going to make the most of it every single day.”
NFL News
From MSN, Russell Wilson is no longer a free agent, as he has signed with the New York Giants. It is reportedly a one-year deal worth up to $21 million with $10.5 million guaranteed.
Stefon Diggs is now a New England Patriot, as he signed a 3-year contract worth $69 million, according to MSN. All the best to Diggs at his new home, I always liked him.
USA Today provides the NFL draft order, a full list of first round picks after free agency.

I’m guessing most of you have heard about this already, but this is amazing stuff. Enjoy!

not surprised the vikings are looking at a guy they can get as an UDFA
Too fat.
Seems like the “X” thing only works sporadically.

How did Keenum play today?
He was here and swinging the club today…
No idea, but it would be fun if he came back as QB2 and it was fun that the Vikings team for whatever this tournament is had Thielen.
Thielen is a really good golfer. He has almost a pro-level game.
Clearly limping. Career over. (Sarcasm)

Man the Bears are bad. That would get him 21st place on the Vikings single season passing records list.
But Caleb Williams is the greatest, was amazing last year and JJ has no chance of doing anything, even though he has an absolutely stacked team around him.
I think the Jordan Mason deal might end up being the biggest move the Vikings made this offseason.
i agree.
What are you talking about?
That is the current narrative among the pundits. Didn’t you hear, the Vikings have the worst roster in the NFC North? They are also projected to finish like 12th in the NFC, out of 16 teams.
Oh… no I didn’t hear we had the worst roster in the NFC North, etc.
Yeah, pundits are gonna pundit. We all know we have a pretty decent team. We also know any number of factors can affect a team’s success or failure in any given season, including the Ref’s.
Barring a significant rash of injuries to key players, the Vikings should contend for the Division title this year. We know this. F the pundits.
Cowturd said the Vikings have the worst overall roster in the NFC North and I saw a ranking saying the Vikings are currently the 10th team in the NFC. No idea how with any brain cells you come to that conclusion. Yes, injuries can change things, but that goes for every team. As they sit right now, this is probably one of the best Vikings rosters I’ve seen in my lifetime so to see multiple people say they will finish 4th in the NFL, with injuries removed, is unbelievable.
Yep… pundits are just that… pundits. Most rational folks would disagree with them.
‘Barring a significant rash of
injuriesturnovers’FIFY
Turnovers indeed would be a factor. Missed field goals and extra points too. So would dropped interceptions, and dropped passes. Lots of things can alter the outcomes of games beyond talent, coaching, and schemes.

i do not believe this.
You probably didn’t believe that you should wear a mask or get the jab to prevent others from getting Covid either you conspiracy theorist.
Just because it is from nflrumors ?
The highest paid QB in the league, is being traded? Jerry Jones is a GD genius.
Except Dak has a no trade clause.
the browns, who are strapped to a ridiculously gross contract with an equally gross human being….aren’t going to follow the same path of being strapped to another gross contract
Indeed…
Fake news
Gasp!
Sounds about right though… CleeeveLaaaand is cursed!
Who is the current back up on Cowpies? Trey?
Will Grier. Trey Lance is a free agent after the Cowboys let him go.
When is KAM supposed top address the minions today?
generally in favor of addressing the tops.
Anything more than a handful is a waste.
Hmmm maybe I was subliminally thinking of this while typing…
BTW, I don’t know who that chick is, but I likey!
Too PHAT.
it is finished…
Oh… what did he say about a QB2?
Sounds like no reporter had anything to ask other than if they were still trying to get Rodgers.
Vikings GM Kwesi Adofo-Mensah addressed reporters and was of course asked about the possibility of signing QB Aaron Rodgers, via ESPN’s KevinSeifert.
“Right now…we’re happy with our room,” he said. Asked if could rule out the possibility of signing Rodgers, however, he declined to back himself into a corner.
“For me to sit here and say anything is 100 percent forever, that’s just not the job”
Hmmm… OK. The “room” is McCarthy and Brett Rypien.
and whoever they have in mind when someone gets cut or they trade for
Well KAM said “right now… we’re happy with our room” . That sounds like these are the guys they’re rolling with. Or maybe KAM is just being evasive.
They’re going into it under the assumption that JJ will play 20 games and that’s all that is necessary.
Strange assumption in the NFL. He didn’t make it out of pre-season last year.
I thought you were quoting scripture.
It’s likely to cut down on comments if one has to refresh constantly. JMO.
Agreed
That and a e-mail saying my address was suspicious. This site just goes on excursions from time to time.
Do you have an older email address? I have an MSN email, that does not work for a lot of sites.
It’s older but never had a issue. Was on DN till they went bonkers and came over here.
My MSN email would not work at DN.
Mine doesn’t require me to refresh, but it does take a couple of minutes to update if I have been away from the site for a while.
Sometimes that little thought circle will show, if not i assume no one is talking.
I see new names on this thread and/or names that are not on here very often….now I don’t know how I am supposed to act….
I will play it safe…

Life is much easier if one just is honest and true to themselves.
I ain’t new… Just somewhat back during a break in life experiences…
I must say that I’m seeing my patience grow thin in my golden years…
I’m looking at the remaining options for QB 2 and have come to the conclusion that there is a better than non-existent chance that Brett Rippen (SP?🤷♂️) is potentially the QB2 because he has some experience and is a very cheap option. Then we can expect a nondescript rookie addition as QB 3 and an emergency call to Tannehill if there is an injury…
Still REALLY glad that the passtronaut and rogers ain’t coming… One is a solid sideshow head case and the other throws catchable balls that also put the lives of the WRs at risk… good riddance!
Well ‘better than non-existent chance’ still leaves 99.9% chance that they are either waiting for the Comp Pick Calculations for ’26 to be closed or for some QB2 to be cut after the draft.
In either case we will see around the end of the month.
I completely agree about The Douche, and you can throw R. Wilson in there as well.
Wilson’s 15 minutes of fame time limit has certainly expired…
I am not certain that 9 Pro Bowls and a Ring equals ’15 minutes of fame’.
I am not a fan of the guy be he certainly has had his moments over the years.
Agreed… Please pardon my ignorance on his career… I have a tendency to ignore all things seahawk…. That resume reads HOF though.
I tend to ignore players I don’t care for.
I only looked him up when I was looking at possible QB2 for us a few weeks ago.
he conclusion i have come up with is KOC and McCown are all the mentors that McCarthy needs, so i’m not worried about finding some “veteran” to come along side and help JJ….
but also i think our next backup is currently on someone’s roster and we’ll get him when he gets cut or we trade for him
We definitely have some trade bait on the roster now…
Possible.
Wes Phillips is also a ‘former QB’ but not in the NFL.
i’d like to get the drunk off the team and have McCown take over for him
I can agree to this plan.
Mostly because I grew up with a drunk not because I have any idea about how capable he is as an OC.
KOC runs the show. Wes, i’m sure, has input, but i’d prefer to keep premium talent (Mccown) on the team
McCown will be a HC soon. The Vikings would get a comp pick if Flores gets promoted though so there’s that to consider.
how do coaching comp picks work??
Coaches or Administrators with an acceptable amount of “tan” also count for comp picks if hired by another team for a position that could be considered a promotion.
LOL
interesting. because that’s not racist at all
It’s called helping those underrepresented in the NFL stratosphere.
Your perspective on having a QB2 that can mentor McCarthy is interesting. Maybe KOC and McCown don’t want anyone else influencing McCarthy’s development?
That is why pick a QB2 is important and why The Douche, Russ, and Crablegs were poor options.
I totally agree those three were bad options. Just need a guy who is going to fit in, work well with others, and be able to run the offense in an emergency.
I agree with the development side, but I do see the benefit to a guy that can help to prop him up if needed in a down time. Not that he’s going to need that since there will be no down times, but prepare for the worst yada, yada
I think being around Darnold was probably pretty good. The guy came in as the dude and went to bottom of the barrel pretty quick but was able to stay resilient. He seems like he’s always kept a pretty clear head on him and I’ll respect him for that.
I don’t think we need a mentor as much as a reliable backup to fill in and not let the season go into the crapper if JJ gets hurt.
yep agreed to this…
which is why i think our backup is on a different team currently.
THE GINGER JESUS!!!!
Be grateful that QB2 is the only really glaring position of need.
Left guard?
I think with the upgrade at Center, Brandel will have a good year. He looked good last year until Darrisaw went down. I’ve argued with my kid whether Brandel is only good next to an all pro tackle, or was it just to much for him to pick up the slack created by Robinson and Bradbury.
Yep, our biggest concern right now is which QB that basically never did anything in his career is going to get a SB ring. Good place to be.
FLACCO I SAY! Get 2 years out of him and maybe draft or trade for qb2.
The one thing I will agree with my son on this is, it would be nice to get a backup that resembles JJs playing style. That way, god forbid he get injured again, they don’t have to revamp the offense for the backup. I don’t think Flacco is a good comparison.
Aidan O’Connell
Looks more like a post draft decision. I have no clue.
In the NFL, a players “playing style” can definitely influence scheme. If a player is a Lamar Jackson type, then having a backup who can execute some plays designed to take advantage of Lamar’s mobility, would be good. There are OC’s out there though who expect the player to adapt to the scheme, and adjust his playing style, rather than the other way around.
Who’s passtronaut?
Oh, Dobbs.
God forbid JJ gets hurt. If you don’t sign someone who’s been around the block a bit then these FA signings will prob mean nothing.
Yes, you’d think when selecting a backup, a team would take into consideration their ability to execute the offense decently.
Happy Opening Day!!
At least it is long season before the Twinkies let us down.
https://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/minnesota-twins-st-louis-cardinals-450327124/
I think you’re a day early, but it’s ok!!
i love when baseball season is here
Dang, I hate being premature.
It is not one of The Teachers favorite things either.
Luckily I am more likely to be ‘late’ than early.
Pohlads are a joke. They want about 1.7 billion for team and having over 400 mil in debt. I also read Joe Pohlad wants control. They are a joke. IMO
Yep. They are selling the Twins because their commercial property business is bleeding cash. They gotta sell. 🦈 Blood in the water.
Little known fact: the Pohlad fortune was built on downtown property that consisted of a lot of parking garages. Old Man Pohlad colluded with HH Humphrey to shut down the downtown cable cars to induce more people to drive to downtown and need to park.
The last time I went to a game it was Nolan Ryan on the mound at the Metrodome…
what a BORING strikeout fest THAT was!
Much better time at the Met Stadium watching the Twins crushing a Billy Martin coached Oakland As team by 11-1… Dad got us box seats on the first base line…
Biggest memory of that day was watching a foul ball scream up the walkway to the As dugout , jump up and bounce around the metal pipe guardrail while Billy was diving for cover from behind it. Good times!
That is a good memory.
My last game was Albert Pujols 600 home run game vs the Twinkies in SoCal.
That was in June of 2017 so almost 8 years ago now.
I got to watch the Red Sox with Manny from left field in high school. My buddies were heckling Manny. Big Pappy hit a home run and I think in his first at bat the first pitch went at Manny’s head and the next pitch went over the baggy in right field. Also was there when the left fielder or the third baseman for the Twins threw the ball (still live) into the stands with 2 outs and runners on base, still running.
‘left fielder or the third baseman for the Twins threw the ball (still live) into the stands with 2 outs and runners on base, still running’
Hard to pay attention all the time when the game can be so slow.
But yeah, that is a pretty boneheaded play.
I’ve never stopped mid play and let guys just run the bases and I just play E-league beer-league softball. I think he caught a fly ball for out 2 and then chucked it into the stands with 2 guys on base, but that was over 20 years ago so I could be mis-remembering the details.
I assume he lost tracks of how many outs there was and thought the inning was over.
Very much so. It was just funny to see a pro do it. When I do it 6 beers in, it makes sense, but I don’t get paid lots of dollars to play baseball every day.
And it’s funny that it’s one of two main memories of the numerous Twins games I went to as a kid.
Hey GF, I enjoyed the Pyramid video in your posting up top. The sound harmonics they discovered are pretty amazing. Very cool!
The whole thing seems like quite the stretch.
The best conspiracy theories are.
Good Gif is good.
From the Mythical Words Up Top.
‘now that they have Garrett Bradbury under center’
Bradbury is not under center, he is the center, Drake Mayes is the one under center.
‘In slang, the player receiving the snap is said to be “under center” if they receive the ball directly from the center (not in shotgun). This phrase is typically applied to quarterbacks but has been used in reference to other positions as well’

Oops, I was tired
Figured it went with the trivia question yesterday about why a QB was called a Quarterback.
I’ve been swamped doing taxes, so I don’t know if anybody has posted this.
Made me chuckle. And puke.
(And I did NOT have to change the x to twitter on this one.)

Doing taxes?
This is the crazy season for that.
Ours was the most complicated we have ever had.
Changing states 1/2 thru the year, The Teachers retirement, selling the SoCal house and paying off this one from the proceeds, wedding and associated name change.
Was happy to let a professional handle it.
For CPA’s, the tax code is affectionately known as the “CPA employment Act”
Calif taxes are a nightmare, Federal are not nearly so bad since the ‘simplification’.

Did you see that clutch eagle putt JJ made? Just a winner through and through.
