Random Thoughts
Kiddo and I went fishing last night. We tried one spot, but nothing was biting & the wind was pretty crappy there. We tried another spot a bit south of there, but the wind was really rough, coming out of the south & shooting directly up the river, so we headed home. I did change oil on my Accord, and kiddo helped and had a learning experience, so it wasn’t a wasted evening. He won’t grow up to be a skinny jean wearing soy boy.
Hey, those of you in Minnesota, I am looking for a used boat motor. I’d prefer a 115 hp motor, but would settle for a 90 hp motor. I also would prefer a four stroke, but would settle for a two stroke. Y’all have lots more used motors over there than we have here, so thought I’d put the word out. You never know where you’ll find what you’re looking for.

There was some footage out of training camp yesterday, and it sure felt good to watch football players doing actual football things. After months (that felt like years) of no NFL news other than verbal diahrea coming from sports journalists, it is a breath of fresh air to see J.J. McCarthy spinning spirals to receivers. I’m looking forward to training camp, the family and I are DEFINITELY going to get there again this year.

Brief discussion yesterday about college and career choices of today’s youth on here, I mentioned I was looking forward to seeing what my grandkids do…having supper with my wife and she mentioned “…with (first year college granddaughter) change of major she’ll…”
I asked, oh what did she change her major to – education. Oh that’s great.
Here’s the kicker, my wife said we talked about it at length a week ago. I do not remember a single word of conversation about GD going into education. She insists we talked about it. So either I got the Biden disease, flat out carried on a conversation without listening (like no husband has ever done before), or she confused me for some other guy.
Yikes, neither option is particularly good. You either auto-piloted an entire conversation without realizing it, or your wife is confusing your convo with that of someone else.
And education major is not what I would consider a good choice. But I guess if you love what you do…

Trump is trying to work out a win/win deal. Zelensky is being pressured to “stand up to Trump” by various groups (including Democrat politicians). The Dems do not want this deal to succeed, and I’ve heard there is a lot going on behind the scenes with the Dem’s advising Zelensky to push back against Trump, and they will ensure money and aid will still come his way.
Don’t see hoe Dems can guarantee money and aid to him. If Trump tells Repubs in Congress to block any such effort, Zelinsky is up the creekl. He’s playing a dangerous game, messing with the wrong guy, and might as well study up on his Russian.
Zelensky has a big ego, and is being convinced that dragging Trump around by the nose on this minerals deal will play well to the world. He thinks he’s beating Trump, and he will be regarded as the world leader who put him in his place. As you said, he better brush up on his Russian.

One of their employees failed to secure confidential information. While not nefarious, it was a violation of the rules.
We don’t know that there is any rule that says he had to secure this data. I signed hundreds of NDA’s in my time, and of course followed all requirements to secure classified information.

The trainer called Cousins while he was driving to Atlanta to sign his contract. He asked him about his Achilles rehab, and whether there would be anything special required from the training staff. Cousins also received a call from the PR director to tell him about the next days agenda, where to park, what door to come in, where to go for his physical, when he would sign, when he would meet the media, etc.
This was just normal business. The letter of the law though said the team could not contact Cousins directly before his signing. They technically should have contacted his manager, to relay any messaging to Cousins.
Tampering means you negotiate with a player about a contract before you are allowed to, which never occurred here.
On the other hand the Eagles definitely tampered with Saquon Barkley by meeting with him, and discussing a contract long before the day they were allowed to.

In one case tampering actually occurred and in the other no tampering occurred at all.
If you expand the definition far enough anything can be considered ‘tampering’.
Tampering in the NFL context means negotiating or discussing a contract with a player who is currently under contract to another team, during periods of time that are not authorized by the league.
Associated with this rule, are policies that are established for various reasons. Violating a policy associated with a rule, versus violating the actual rule, is what we are addressing here SoCal.
For about the 6th or 7th time since February, Ukraine says it’s now ready to sign the rare earth minerals deal with the U.S. Trump has played this hand brilliantly, not allowing Zelensky to tie demands to the deal, that the U.S. doesn’t support. No NATO membership, no U.S. military bases, no U.S. investment in infrastructure, etc. Zelensky really thought he could garner both political power, and U.S. concessions, by defying Trump and holding this deal out as a carrot. What did Trump do? He started talks and garnered actual agreements with other countries to garner these rare earth minerals, and gave Zelensky the middle finger.
Now Zelensky understands he can only get U.S. investments and profit sharing on mining those rare earth minerals, and nothing else.
Funny how Trump negotiates, the Media/Dems/Woke lose their shit, then Trump gets a good deal and then they move on to the next drama/hoax/fake news.

My personal take on this is we are going to start booming across the board when the trade deals are done. Folks are worried because the media is telling them to worry. I see a huge leap in prosperity coming as interest rates drop, inflation drops, and energy costs drop.

It is hilarious. Kudos for him. I know part of his effort is for clicks. I do not have the patience for that. When I had an “IRS” agent named “Steve” call from some India call center and tell me they would be arresting me if I did not pay, I just went for insulting the ass and hanging up.
This guy actually bugs computers and will stop scams as they are happening, had a big network of hackers that attack spammers and he gives money back to people who have been scammed.

I remember growing up in an area where there were a lot of military families. They came and went every few years, but what they told us about living in the Philippines, Japan, Hawaii, multiple places in Europe, etc always impressed me. They were always more mature, self reliant, and “advanced” than us, it seemed.
Kids who travel the world, live in different cultures, and grow up facing challenges the average American child never has to deal with, get an extra level of education and development opportunities that make them more able to deal with stress, change, and life’s obstacles IMO.
Grew up a military brat. At times had some challenges, but overall a great way to grow up. Certainly a strong dose of patriotism.
I was a the Commissary recently and some teems were walking in the parking lot, They stopped suddenly, turned toward Base HQs and covered their hearts.
I listened carefully and realized that Retreat was sounding and so did the same. I was so impressed with those teens thinking that ‘normal’ teens would never have done that.
They see up close and personal what it is to be devoted to your country, serve your country, and risk your life for your country. The example they see, and the environment they grow up in, makes them see the realities of life through a far different lens than their peers. When their parents stand for the National Anthem and salute the flag, instead of kneeling, they see what respect, honor, and service is all about.
Plus they know they will get in trouble if they don’t do it.

You should watch The Food That Made America. There is an episode where they talk about the Toll House cookies. Chocolate chip cookies weren’t a thing at the time and this lady that owned a b and b, named Toll House Inn, always made cookies for desert. She was out of powder chocolate, so she broke chunks of chocolate thinking it would melt into the batter and it didn’t. I don’t remember if it was the owner of Nestle or a salesman that happen to stop at the inn that day for lunch and had the cookies.
They wanted her to produce the cookies and sell them, but she didn’t want to so she got a bunch of money to have the recipe and the likeness of her inn put on every package of Nestle morsels.
Seems a bit dried out, day old cookies would be ‘less wet’ and therefore a win-win.
